ācu (p. 37) s. Fault, defect, blemish, stain, குற்றம். 2. A trifle, any thing small or mean, அற்பம். 3. Armor, coat of mail, கவசம். 4. One or two அசை affixed to the penultimate foot of the second line of an ஆசிடைவெண்பா, நேரிசைவெண்பாவிற்றனிச் சொற்குமுன் கூட்டப்படுமசை. 5. A small tube through which the yarn is conducted from the spindle of a spinning wheel to a machine, நூலிழைக்குங்கருவிகளிலொன்று. 6. A small particle used in soldering metals, பற்றாசு. 7. A mark or butt, இலக்கு. (c.) 8. A kind of arsenic, ஓர்விதபாஷாணம். (p.) ஆசிட, inf. [in poetry.] To affix either one or two syllables to the third foot of the second line of an ஆசிடைவெ ண்பா. 2. To cement the particles of gold, &c. ஆசிடையிட்டெதுகை--ஆசெது கை, s. The consonance of the second and third letters in each line of a stanza, with this license, that one of the four consonants ய், ர், ல், ழ், inserted after the first letter of the first line, is omitted after the first letter of the second line, and vice versa. ஓரெதுகை--as வாய்ந்தமின்னை மடந்தையராக்கிவிண் போந்திடாமலன்றோ, &c. ஆசிடைவெண்பா, s. A வெண்பா of four lines in general, to the penultimate foot of the second line of which ஆசு is affixed, ஆசிடையிட்டவெண்பா. ஆசுமணை, s. A flat, oblong board with ten pins, on which the yarn is made into skeins. 2) *

āṉ (p. 44) s. A neat, cow or bull, பசுப் பொது. 2. A cow, பெண்பசு. 3. A calf. ஆன்வல்லோர், s. Cow-herds. ஆன்றிரள், s. A crowd of herds. 20)

iṭi (p. 45) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To pound, beat in a mortar, comminute, pulverize, reduce to flour, தூளாக்க. 2. To strike with the fist, a club or any thing blunt, slantingly, not with a direct blow, தாக்க. 3. To push, gore as a beast, to thrust, to butt--as an old calf in sucking, முட்ட. 4. To thunder, eject thunder-bolts, இடியிடிக்க. 5. To beat so as to break, bruise or batter to pieces, demolish, shatter, தகர்க்க. 6. To speak forcibly and emphatically, to use strong language in order to make an impression, to urge, insist upon with earnestness, உறுதிசொல்ல. 7. v. n. To throb, beat-as the head when aching: to beat, pant, palpitate, துடிக்க. 8. To strike--as a vessel against the shore--as a gun fired, &c., உதைக்க. 9. To sound, make a noise, ஒலிக்க. இடிக்குந் துணையாரை யாள்வாரையாரே கெடுக்குந் தகைமையவர்? Who can destroy those with whom are counsellors, that caution them faithfully? நீலனைமுழங்காலினாலிடித்துருட்டினான். He pushed Neelan with his knee, and rolled him over. (இராமா.) இடித்துரை, s. upatēcam (p. 61) s. [pref. உப.] Spiritual instruction, teaching, doctrine, போத கம். 2. (fig.) Advice in general, புத்தி. 3. The initiation of the pupil into the mysteries of his religion, சமயாசாரவுபதேசம். 4. A form of secret instruction, incantations, &c., given by the Guru to his disciple, on his admission into any of the four stages or degrees, மந்திரோபதேசம். Wils. p. 154. UPADESHA. குரூபதேசந்தவறாதவன். One who deviates not from the instructions of his Guru. உபதேசகலை, s. That portion of the Vedas which treats of the divine attributes, operations, &c. See ஆகமம், also தந்திரகலை and மந்திரகலை. உபதேசகன், s. A teacher, an instructor, போதகன். Wils. p. 154. UPADESHAKA. உபதேசஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To give spiritual advice in secret, according to the proficiency, attainments, devotedness, &c., of the disciple. 2. To give advice, to instigate, &c. உபதேசம்பண்ண, inf. To initiate one into the mysteries of the religion by teaching the formul&ae;, &c. மந்திரோபதேசம், s. Teaching the muntra to the disciple. ஞானோபதேசம், s. uptēci (p. 61) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To teach divine things, give spiritual advice, போதிக்க. 2. To initiate the disciple into the mysteries of his religion by teaching religious rites, incantations, சமயாசாரமுணர்த்த. 3. To give advice or instruction in general, புத்திசொல்ல. 4. To persuade, prevail upon by giving secret advice, சம்மதிக்கச்செய்ய. உபதேசி, s. A Catechist, போத கன். This word is used only among Christians. 34) *

urōmam (p. 65) s. The hair of the body, thick, or close hair, மயிர்ப்பரப்பு. Wils. p. 711. ROMAN. உரோமக்கட்டு, s. Hair thick-set on the body. உரோமசன்--உரோமமுனி--உ ரோமரிஷி. A celebrated Rishi reputed to be covered with hair and of immense age, still living--one of the eighteen சித்தர்; [ex உரோமம், the hair.] உரோமத்துவாரம், s. The pores of the skin through which the hairs shoot, மயிர்த்துவாரம். உரோமபுளகம்--உரோமபுளகிதம் --உரோமப்பொடிப்பு, s. The rising of small pimples upon the body at the root of the hairs, from fear, extatic joy, &c., உரோமஞ்சிலிர்க்கை. உரோமமுனி--உரோமரிஷி, s. A sage who composed a treatise on medicine and morals. உரோமரேகை--உரோமாவலி, s. The line of hair in females, reaching to the navel, மயிரொழுக்கு. Wils. p. 712. ROMAVALEE. உரோமாஞ்சலி--உரோமாஞ்சிதம், s.
