In some cases this verb when preceded by another in the infinitive has much the sense of பட, as அடையப்பெறும், it may be had; சொல்லப் பெறும், it may be said; காணப்பெற்றறேன், I obtained sight of. ஆதாயத்தைப்பெற்றான். He obtained profit. இதுபடும்பிரயாசத்தைப்பெறாது. It is not worth the trouble. பத்துப்பணம்பெறும். It is worth ten fanams. அவன்பெறுமானவன். He is a worthy man. ஒருகாசும்பெறாதவேலை. It is worth nothing. பெற்றமனம்பித்துப்பிள்ளைமனங்கல்லு. The heart of the mother is bile [water]; the heart of the child is stone. பெறாத, neg. rel. part. Insufficient, unsound, ineffectual, &c. பெறாதஈடு. Insufficient security. பெறாதகாரியம். An unsound argument, or ineffectual lawsuit. பெறாதபேச்சு. Worthless talk. ஆற்றப்பெறாதவேதனை. Intolerable torment.
