One of the mystic circles on the body, regarded as a lotus flower, and assigned in worship, to three of the female energies of the deity, ஞானசத்தி, கிரியாசத்தி and இச்சாசத்தி, under the emblems of the sun, moon and fire. சூரியர், s. An adherent of the சூரி யன் religion; [ex வாதி.] சூரியவிம்பம்--சூரியபிம்பம், s. The disc or orb of the sun. 2. The reflected light of the sun, சூரியப்பிரதிவிம்பம். சூரியவீதி, s. The are of the horizon which comprehends the northern and southern declinations of the sun, being divided into three parts of four signs each, and taken in the following order: (1.) மேடவீதி, the Aries'-course, including Taurus, இடபம், Leo, சிங்கம், Gemini, மிது னம், and Cancer, கடகம். 2. இடபவீதி, the Taurus'-course, including Pisces, மீனம், Aries, மேடம், Virgo, கன்னி, Libra, துலாம். (3.) மிதுனவீதி, the Gemini course, including Sagittarius, தனுசு, Capricorn, மக ரம், Aquarius, கும்பம், Scorpio, விருச்சிகம். சூரியனுதித்தல், v. noun. The rising of the sun. சூரியாஸ்தமனம், s. A man full of tricks, gestures, &c. 2. One of indecent gestures, &c. 3. One who plays roughly, &c., 4. A caperer, one who makes ludicrous gestures, &c. சேட்டைபண்ண, inf. To make idle or indecent gestures. 2. To play pranks, to caper, gambol, gesticulate. 3. To play roughly with a disease. 5. To trouble, annoy. 6. To form, create, produce, evolve--as words, from primituve matter. வியாதியடிக்கடிசேட்டைபண்ணுகிறது. The disease shows itself, or annoys, again and again. சேட்டைப்பட, inf. tāṉam (p. 236) --ஸ்தானம், s. Place, location, situation, spot, station, இடம். 2. Home, abode, dwelling, residence, locality; natural situation, habitation; elements of a creature, &c., இருப்பிடம். 3. Any part or member of the body, any particular or special part, உயிர்நிலை. 4. Any of the five seats or situations of the soul in the body. (See அவத்தை.) 5. Any special place, as the residence of the king or chief, இராசஸ் தானம். 6. A sacred shrine, the interior or most sacred spot in a temple, &c., சர்ப்பக் கிரகம். 7. The world of Indra, as சுவர்க்கம். 8. Strength, power, firmness, வலி. 9. Stage of life-poetically considered, செய் யுட்பொருத்தம். 1. Any of the four seats or sources of the sounds of the letters, எழுத்துப்பிறக்குமிடம். 11. [in numeration.] Place or digit, எண்ணின்தானம். 12. [in astrol.] Any of the twelve signs consulted, for predicting one's fortune, in reference to the planets and their situation in the signs, கிரகநிலை. 13. Any of the five places in the zodiac with respect to any given planet. 14. [vul. for ஸ்நானம்.] A bath. 15. (R.) The upright posture of the images of Vishnu, in distinction from the sitting. தானம், 5. The five places are: 1. ஆட் சித்தானம், when the planet presides, (See under ஆள், v.) 2. உச்சதானம். when the sun is in Aries, the Moon in Taurus, Mars in Capricornus, Mercury in Virgo. This is a very auspicious conjunction, four times better than the first. 3. நீசத் தானம், the position of the planets in the seventh place from the auspicious, உச் சம், and thought to be very bad. 4. நட் புத்தானம், the benign position of the planets. (See under நட்பு.) 5. பசைத்தானம். the malign position, causing continual hatred. See under பகை. தானம், 12. The twelve astrological signs are: 1. சென்மஸ்தானம், the rising sign at birth, having reference to fortune generally, according to the character and influence of the planets that may be in it. 2. வாக்குஸ்தானம், திரவியஸ் தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the second sign at birth as applying to the powers of speech, influence, learning, wife, &c. 3. சகோதரஸ்தானம், the third, referring to brothers and sisters whether there will be any, the good or evil they will do to the person, or he to them. 4. மாதுருஸ்தானம், மித்துருஸ்தானம், வாகனஸ்தானம், the forth, referring to the life of the mother, or friends. 5. புத்திரஸ்தானம், the fifth regards future offspring. 6. சத்துருஸ்தானம், உரோகஸ்தானம், the sixth shows whether the person will have enemies, and the evils to which he will be liable. 7. களத்திரஸ்தானம், குடும்பஸ்தானம், the seventh, referring to a wife and settlement in life. 8. மிருத்துஸ்தானம், ஆ யுஸ்தானம், the eighth, the limit of life. 9. தருமஸ்தானம், புண்ணியஸ்தானம், the ninth, referring to the extent of the person's liberality, &c. 1. கருமஸ்தானம், the tenth, conduct, character good or bad, &c. 11. இலாபஸ்தானம், பாக்கியஸ்தானம், the eleventh income, acquisition, wealth prosperity. 12. செலவுஸ்தானம், வியஸ்தா னம், the twelfth, prodigality or penuriousness, &c. தானக்கை, s. [prov.] Any vital part of the body, உயிர்நிலை. 2. Favorable situation of a place, தகுந்தஇடம். தானத்தான், s. A pujari in a Saiva temple, ஸ்தானீகன். 2. A hereditary chief, தலைமைக்காரன். தானப்புழு, s. Worms in the anus, causing irritation or itching. See திமி ரிப்பூச்சி. தானப்புழுக்கிண்ட, inf. To gnaw as worms in the anus, &c. [prov.] தானப்பொருத்தம், s. The fourth of ten items to be regarded in the choice of the first word of a poem--being the correspondence of its initial letter, with any of the five arbitrary divisions in which the initial of the name of the hero falls. The five தானம் are, 1. பாலன். 2. குமரன். 3. அரசன். 4. விருத்தன். 5. மரணம். which denote the five stages of life. The five arbitrary divisions of letters are அ, ஆ; இ, ஈ, ஐ; உ, ஊ, ஔ, எ, ஏ; ஒ; ஓ. தானவண்ணம், s. A curious kind of song, சுரவிகற்பப்பாட்டு. தானவரிசைபாட, inf. To sing with a tremendous noise. 13) *

[prov.] Watching millet sown in January. தைச்சங்கிரமம், s. The entrance of the sun into Capricorn. See சங்கிரமம், சங்கி ராந்தி. தைச்செவ்வாய், s. [prov.] A Tuesday in January, auspicious. தைப்பிறப்பு, s. [com. தைமாதப்பிற ப்பு.] New year's day, astronomically; observed by boiling rice, to propitiate the favor of the sun, supposed to commence, at that time, his course northward. தைப்பிறை, s. The new moon as seen in January, observed to ascertain whether the year will be fruitful. தைப்பூசம், s. The day when the moon is in the பூசம், in January, being an auspicious time for eating the first rice, bathing, and taking oblations to the temple. தைப்பொங்கல், s. The festival of boiling rice in cow's milk. See தைப்பிறப்பு. தையறம், s. [prov.] The drying up of the rivers in January. 3)

pongku (p. 336) கிறது, பொங்கினது, ம், பொ ங்க, v. n. To boil up, bubble up by heat, கொதிக்க. 2. To foam and rage--as the sea, கொந்தளிக்க. 3. To ferment, to effervesce, நுரையெழ. 4. To rise as bread from leaven, மாப்புளிக்க. 5. To be inflamed and swell, as a sore, சினக்க. 6. To increase, expand, extend, மிக. 7. To grow intense, பெருக. 8. To abound, to flourish, to be fruitful, செழிக்க. 9. To rise, grow high, to become elevated, உயர. 1. To swell--as the heart in anger, sorrow, joy, &c., மனம் பொங்க. 11. In propitious seasons the tamarind abounds, in scarce times, the mango. பொங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To cook for one--as a host for a lodger. பொங்கித்தெளித்தல், v. noun. Boiling rice in milk, and sprinkling a house with the liquid, because an owl has lighted on the roof. (Jaff.) பொங்கிவழிய, inf. To boil over, as rice, milk, &c. 2. To superabound or overflow as wealth. பொங்குசனி, s. [in astrol.] The second and most propitious of ஏழரையாண்டுச்சனி. See சனி. பொங்கல், v. noun. Boiling, bubbling; fermentation. 2. Raging as the sea. 3. The festival when the sun enters Capricorn about the 11th of January. See தைப்பொங்கல். (c.) 4. Abundance, excess, profusion, மிகுதி. 5. Rejoicing, exulting, மகிழ்தல்.--For மாட்டுப்பொங்கல், see in its place. பொங்கலாண்டி--பொங்கலாள்--பொங் கற்காரன், s. A cook, one who boils his own rice and lives by himself in a niggardly way. பொங்கலிட--பொங்கல்பொங்க, inf. To boil rice without straining out the water in which it has been boiled. 2. To boil rice for a religious purpose-also பொங்கல்போட. பொங்கல்வரிசை, s. The presents sent to a married woman from her parents, at the பொங்கல் feast. 2. presents sent to a superior at that time, as உலுப்பை. பொங்கல்வைக்க, inf. As பொங்கலிட. 2. [in cant.] To injure a person. 3. To kill one. பொங்கற்சம்பா, s. A kind of rice. See சம்பா. பொங்கற்சாதம், s. Rice boiled at the temple. 2. See சாதம். பொங்கற்பானை, s.
