kirukaraṉ (p. 110) s. One of the vital airs in the region of the face, assisting the digestive process, and causing heat, anger and sneezing, (சது.) or, as some say, assisting in opening and shutting the eyes. See வாயு. Wils. p. 24. KRUKARA. It is sometimes spelt கிருதரன். 10) *

kulam (p. 127) s. [in poet. குலன்.] Tribe, family, lineage, race; caste, nation, people, சாதி. 2. Herd, flock, shoal, assemblage, collection, கூட்டம். 3. Kind, class, species, sort, genus, இனம். 4. House, abode, மனை. 5. Royal palace, அரமனை. Wils. p. 233. KULA. 6. Family, rank, respectability or eminence of descent, உயர்குலம். 7. (Rott.) An inhabited country, குடி. 8. (பிங்.) The twentyseventh lunar asterism, or nacshatra; also, the time the moon accupies in traversing the nacshatra, இரேவதி. குரங்கானாலுங்குலத்திலெடு. Though an ape, let a wife be from one's own family. குலங்குப்பையிலே பணம்பந்தியிலே. Rank or caste is on the dung-hill, while wealth sits in state; i. e. the wealthy are honored. கோடாலிக்காம்பு குலத்துக்கீனம். The axehandle brings ruin to its race (by assisting to cut down trees)--spoken of a person who brings disgrace and ruin to his family. குலகன்மம், s. Customs attaching to a family, through successive generations, குலாசாரம். Wils. p. 233. KULAKARMMA. குலகாயம், s. The rules or regulations of caste, குலவொழுக்கம். இதுனக்குக்குலகாயமாயிருக்கிறது. This is the custom of your family or tribe. குலகூடஸ்தன், s. The first ancestor of a race or lineage. குலக்கொடி--குலஸ்திரீ--குலபத்தினி --குலாங்கனை, s. The lawful wife. 2. A woman reputed for chastity. 3. A woman of good family and caste, and of repute for chastity. குலக்கொழுந்து, s. A rare son, the sprout or hope of the family. குலவிளக்கு, s. A light to the family or caste-spoken of a chaste matron. குலங்கெட்டவன், s. One who has lost his caste; an object, low-caste fellow. குலசிரேட்டன்--குலஸ்தன்--குலத்தன்-குலமான், s. One born of a good family. குலட்சயம், s. The ruin or decay of a family or tribe. wills. p. 233. KULAKSHAYA. குலதருமம், s. The customs, duties, offices, &c., peculiar to, or proper for, a caste, &c. Wils. 233. KULAD'HARMMA. குலதிலகம்--குலதிலதம், s. One who is an honor to his family; the respectable head of a family. 2. Very pure lineage; eminence of caste. Wils. p. 233. KULATILAKA. குலதம்பிரான்--குலகுரு, s. A family guru, the guru of a race or tribe. குலதெய்வம், s. The family, tutelary deity. 2. The deity of the tribe. குலத்துக்குத்தக்ககுணம், s. Disposition, habits, or propensities peculiar to a caste. குலத்துக்குத்தக்கநடை, s. Behaviour suitable to one's caste. குலந்தெரிக்க, inf. To dwell on another's parentage--commonly in ridicule. குலபதி, s. The head of a caste or tribe. Wils. p. 233. KULAPATI. குலப்பகை, s. Natural antagonism between different species--as between cats and dogs. 2. In-bred malice, hatred, &c., between tribes, perpetuated from generation to generation. குலப்பழி, s. Offence or malice, perpetuated from generation to generation. குலப்பழுது--குலவடு, s. Stigma on a family. 2. Meanness of caste. குலப்பரத்தை, s. A courtezan by birth, or ancestry. 2. A courtezan, not common but kept by one man; a kept mistress. குலமகள்--குலப்பெண், s. THe lawful wife. 2. A woman of good caste, reputed for chastity. குலமக்கட்கழகுதன்கொழுநனைப்பேணுதல். It is becoming in a lawful and virtuous wife to cherish and honor her husband. குலமகன், s. A man of respectable caste. 2. A legitimate son. குலமங்குதல், v. noun. Being reduced in respectability, circumstances, &c. குலமணி, s. A genuine gem; (fig.) one of an illustrious birth. குலமிலான்--குலவீனன், s. A man of low caste. குலமுறைகிளத்த--குலஞ்செப்ப, inf. To give the genealogy of a family. குலங்கூற--குலம்பேச, inf. To twit one of low parentage. 2. To boast or talk of one's own or another's high birth. குலம்புகுந்தவன், s. One who has mingled with persons of a strange caste, a term of reproach. குலம்பெயர, inf. [prov.] To be changed for the better or worse--as a tree by transplanting; to improve or degenerate. குலவித்தை, s. The arts, duties, or employments peculiar to a family or caste. குலவிருது, s. The standard or banner peculiar to a family. 2. A peculiarity or propensity in an individual, common to his family. குலாசாரம், s. The custom, usage, duties, rites, &c., of a caste or tribe. Wils. p. 234. KULACHARA. குலாசாரங்காட்டுகிறான். He betrays his family or caste propensities. குலாசாரியன், s. The family priest-as குலகுரு. Wils. p. 234. KULACHARYYA. குலாதிக்கன், s. One of high caste or family, குலசிரேட்டன். குலாபிமானம், s. Family pride, pride of birth. 2. Respectability of caste, family, &c., சாதிமானம். Wils. p. 234. KULAB'HIMANA. குலிஞன்--குலிஞ்சன், s. A person of a high family, of honorable descent, &c., குலமுள்ளோன். குலீனன், s. One of a high family, &c. Wils. p. 234. KULEENA. குலோத்துங்கன், s. The respectable chief of a family. 2. The name of an illustrious prince of the Chola dynasty. குலடன், s. An adopted son, a foster child, சுவீகாரபுத்திரன். Wils. p. 233. KULAT'A. குலகிரி--குலபர்வதம்--குலாசலம், s. The eight mountains in Jambu Dwipa, (See கிரி.) 2. Seven mountain which are supposed to be in each of the seven Dwipas. 3. The circular mountains which are fancied to surround the annular seas respectively, together with the one which sorrounds the Pushkara Dwipa. (காந்.) நற்குலம், s. A good caste or tribe. 2. An excellent kind. இதுநற்குலதீவிதிராட்சச்செடி. This is a very choice vine. இவன்நற்குலத்தான்--நற்குலத்தோன். He is a man of a high caste, or family. 20)

tayā (p. 224) s. Favor, clemency, compassion, கிருபை. W. p. 4. DAYA. (Used only in combination.) தயாசமுத்திரம், s. A sea of grace. தயாசீலம், s. Grace, graciousness. தயாசீலன், s. A benevolent, gracious person. தயாபரன், s. (voc. தயாபரா.) The gracious god. 2. (fem. தயாபரி.) A beneficent man. நரசீலதயாபரர். God, who is bountiful towards men. தயாமூர்்த்தி, s. The incarnation of benevolence. தயாவிருத்தி, s. Increase of grace, கிரு பைமிகுதல். 2. The fourteen acts of beneficence, தயாவிருத்தி, 14.--The first seven relate to the soul, the other seven to the body. Of the soul; 1. களாபடனம், education, communication of knowledge, கல் விபயிற்றுகை; 2. வியாதாகாரம், comfort to the afflicted, consolation of mind, துயர்தீர்க்கை; 3. நிர்க்கத்தண்டனம், relieving from punishment, தண்டம்நீக்குகை; 4. சந்தேகவாரணம், removing doubts, contingency, &c., ஐயந் தேற்றுகை; 5. அன்னியகுணசகனம், hearing of the superiority of others without envy, and enduring their infirmities with patience, பிறந்குணத்தழுக்காறின்றிப்பொறுத்தல்; 6. பரதிருதுனயோகம், forgetting the evils inflicted by others and seeking to do them good, பிறராற்செய்யப்படுந்தீமையைமறந்தூன்றிநி னைக்கை; 7. பார்த்ததேவப்பிராத்திதம், praying for the prosperity and good of others, பிறர்நிமித்தந்தேவனைவழிபடுதல். Those regarding the body or சத்தாங் கோபகராம் are: 1. அன்னம், food, giving boiled rice, உணவு; 2. பானம், drink, குடிக்க நீர்; 3. அம்பரம், raiment, வஸ்திரம்; 4. மந்திரம், a dwelling, இடம்; 5. தாசபாலனம். preservation from slavery, அடிமைகாத்தல்; 6. காராமயத்திரிதயமோசனம், removing the three afflictions of captivity, சிறைநோய் மூன்றுந்தீர்த்தல். viz.: restraint from the calls of nature, மலசலவாதை; corporal punishments, சரீரதண்டனை; chains, fetters, விலங்கு போடல். 7. சவச்சேமம், burial, பிரேதமடக்கல். There are eight other kinds of benevolence. 1. பிறர்க்குப்பொருள்வரவையுவத்தல், rejoicing in a neighbor's wealth; 2. பிறர்செல்வம்பொறுத்தல், being content in seeing a neighbor's welfare; 3. பிறர்கருமத் திற்குடன்படுதல், assisting in other's business, with interest; 4. தீமைக்கஞ்சல், fearing to do evil; 5. பிறர்கருமமுடிக்கவிரைதல், hastening to assist others; 6. பிறரையந் தீர்த்தல், removing other's doubts; 7. நன் மைகடைப்படித்தல், preserving in doing good; 8. பிறர்துயர்க்கிரங்கல், commiserating the distress of others; sympathizing with the afflicted. 19) *

tī (p. 242) s. Fire, நெருப்பு. 2. Elementary principle of fire and heat, caloric, பஞ்ச பூதத்தொன்று. 3. Hell, நரகம். (சது.) 4. As தீக்கணம்--Note. A three-fold class of elementary fire is given in சதுரகராதி. 1. உயிரி லுள்ளதீ. principle of fire in the sentient soul, and animal body, being a source of warmth, and energy or principle of fire in the stomach, assisting digestion, causing appetite and hunger. It is seated in the peritoneum, 3. சினத்திலெழுந்தீ, fiery principle developing itself in anger. Instead of the first, other authorities give காமத்தீ, the heat or fire of venereal appetite.-Note 2. A three-fold class of sacred fire, வேதாக்கினி, is also given. 1. காருகபத்தியம், the sacrificial fire of the Brahmanical houesholder, received from his ancestors. and kept alive. 2. தட்சிணாக்கினியம், a fire kindles from the standing fire on the southern side of the house, &c. 3. ஆக வனீயம், consecrated fire, taken from the standing fire, for sacrificial purposes. தீக்கஞ்சி, s. A kind of camphor. See தீபக்கொடிச்சி. தீக்கடன், s. (sometimes தீக்கருமம்.) The duties of the son of heir to one deceased, such as cremation and other funeral rites performed with fire. தீக்கடைகோல், s. Sticks for producing fire by friction. See கடைகோல். தீக்கதிக்கும்பச்சை, s. A precious stone, as நாகப்பச்சை. தீக்கதிர், s. A smith's poker, உலையா ணிக்கோல். (R.) தீக்கரண்டி, s. A little cup or bowl for taking up fire, தீயெடுக்குங்கருவி. தீக்கல், s. Flint, தீத்தட்டிக்கல். தீக்காய, inf. (com. குளிர்காய.) To warm one's self at the fire. தீக்குடுக்கை, s. See குடுக்கை. தீக்குதிக்க, inf. To leap into a pit of fire for self-destruction, as தீக்குளிக்க. தீக்குருவி, s. The Ostrich. See தழல் விழுங்கி. தீக்குவெறுங்குகை, s. Soap, சவுக்காரம். (R.) தீக்குழி, s. A pit with coals of fire on which persons walk. தீக்குழிபாய, inf. As தீக்குளிக்க. 2. To pass through burning coals, as a ceremony. தீக்குளிக்க, inf. To plunge into fire, for self-destruction. See குளி, v. தீக்கூர்மை, s. Rock-salt, இந்துப்பு. 2. Salt extracted from sesamum, as திலாசாரம். (R.) திக்கையோன், s. Siva, as holding fire in his hand. 2. See தீக்கை. தீக்கொளுத்த, inf. To kinde a fire &c., to set fire to any thing. தீ தீச்சட்டி, s. A vessel of coals, for warming one's self, or heating any thing; a chafing dish, கும்பிடுசட்டி. 2. A vessel for fire carried on one's head in performance of a vow. தீத்தட்டிக்கல், s. [prov.] (sometimes தீத்தட்டி.) A flint. தீத்தாங்கி, appel. n.. A fire-fender, தீம றைக்கும்பலகை. தீத்திரள், s. The deluge of fire, வடவா முகாக்கினி. தீத்தீண்டல், v. noun. s. A marriage ceremony, ஒருசடங்கு. தீத்தெய்வம், s. The god of fire. தீநா, s. [in seamen's language.] A lighted torch, held up in a vessel, or on shore, as a signal, அடையாளப்பந்தம். தீப்பறக்க, inf. To flash as fire, to be red hot. (c.) தீப்பற்ற, inf. To kindle, as fire. தீப்பொறி, s. A spark of fire. தீப்போட, inf. To set fire to any thing. தீமுறுகல், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, ஓர்பாஷாணம். தீயிறைக்க, inf. To belch fire. 2. To persecute with wrath. தீயெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். தீவட்டி--தீவத்தி, s. [prop. தீவர்த்தி.] A torch, a flambeau. (c.) தீவட்டிக்காரன், s. Torch-bearer. தீவட்டிக்கொள்ளை, s. Plundering one's house, as robbers with torches. தீவட்டிபிடிக்க, inf. To carry a torch. தீவலஞ்செய்தல், v. noun. Worshipping fire, as in the marriage ceremonies, by passing around it to the right, அக் கினிப்பிரதட்சணஞ்செய்தல். தீவளர்க்க, inf. To kindle or argument a fire, more especially the sacred fire as one of the duties of the Brahmanical house-holder, or a fire for a widow to plunge into. தீவளர்ப்போர், appel. n. Brahmans. தீவறை, s. [prov.] A hole dug in the ground for a fire, குழியடுப்பு. தீவிழ, inf. To be consumed by fire, as form heaven; used in cursing, or lively description. தீவிளங்கும்வயிரம், s. Ambergris, மீன ம்பர். (R.) தீவேட்க, inf. To perform a sacrifice. யாகஞ்செய்ய. 2. To marry a wife, கலியா ணஞ்செய்ய; [ex வேட்க, to sacrifice, &c.] தீவேள்வி, s. A wedding, கலியாணம். (சது.) தீக்காலி, s.
