அப்பிரமேயம்
appiramēyam (p. 18) s. [priv. அ.] Unboundedness, immeasurableness, எல்லையற் றது. Wils. p. 5. APRAMEYA. 2. A number, a hundred quintillions, தசமகாபூரி; [ex பிரமேயம், measurableness.] அப்பிரமேயன், s. One unlimited, the Deity, கடவுள். 33) *
அளவு
aḷvu (p. 33) s. Measure, degree, proportion, quantity, magnitude, size, capacity, bound, limit, compass, number, standard, வரையறை. 2. The proper or required measure, the complement number, size, weight, &c., மட்டு. 3. With உம், it expresses a limited extent of measure, time, distance, &c., as அவ்வளவும், only so far, even so much. 4. Suffixed to participles, it means when, as soon as--as பார்க்குமளவில், as soon as seen. 5. A measure or thing to measure with, அளவுகருவி. There are four kinds of measurement; viz.: 1. எண்ணல், computation. 2. எடுத் தல், weight, measurement by balance. 3. முகத்தல், measurement of capacity--as dry of fluid measure. 4. நீட்டல், measurement of extension, a long measure and land measure.--Some add a fifth தெறித்தல், jerking with finger. இராசா அளவிற்கேறிற்று. It has gone up to (the limit of) the king; i. e. it is too late now to adopt measures to prevent it. காரியத்தளவிலேயொன்றுமில்லை. There is no importance in the thing--it matters not. குலத்தளவேயாகுங்குணம். According to the caste will be the disposition. அவன்வருமளவும். Till he comes. மேகமண்டலமளவும். [used adverbially.] Moderately, to a limited extent, according to. அளவிட, inf. To estimate, calculate. 2. To guess, conjecture. 3. To measure, explore, fathom. 4. To investigate, examine, search into. அவனை அளவிடக்கூடாது. One cannot fathom him. அளவிடப்படாத, neg. rel. part. Incomprehensible. அளவிடை, v. noun. Measuring, admeasurement, அளவிடுகை. 2. Estimation, calculation, guess, மதிப்பிடுகை. 3. s. Weight, நிறை. 4. Capacity, extent of one's power. நிருவாகம். சத்துருவையளவிடைபார். Estimate an enemy's power. அளவியற்றாண்டகம், s. A kind of poem. அளவிறக்க, inf. To exceed the measure, the appointed limit, &c., எல் லைகடக்க. 2. To transgress, violate a rule, மீற. 3. To exceed all bounds, be immeasurable, inconceivable, எண்ணிறக்க. அளவிறந்தபொருள், s. Immense property beyond the power of calculation, a thing incomprehensible, a mystery. அளவின்மை, neg. v. noun. Immeasurableness, countlessness, immensity. அளவுகோல், s. A land measurer's rod. அளவுநாழி, s. A stamped measure. அளவுபடுத்த, inf. To measure, ascertain, to limit. அளவெடுக்க, inf. To take a measure, dimensions, &c., of a thing. அவ்வளவு--இவ்வளவு, s. So much, so many. அவ்வளவும், Even so much, only of far, that is all. எவ்வளவு, s. How much, how many. நேற்றளவு. Up to or till yesterday, in the course of yesterday. நேற்றையளவிலேசெய்தியிப்படி. The news were so up to yesterday. இன்றளவும். Until this day, in the course of to-day. 14)
இல்
il (p. 55) . Not, non-existence, death, மரணம். (p.) 2. The root of one of the negative symbolic verbs, (see அல்) expressive of total or exclusive negation of the thing or quality--the opposite of உள். Sometimes in poetry it stands as a contraction of இல்லை. இற்றிறம்பிலர். They fail not in the performance of domestic duties; [ex இல், house; திறம்பு, failure; இலர், who are not.] இணையில்நெஞ்சமே. O! incomparable mind; O! mind debased beyond comparison. இலி, s. A person, or thing possessed of nothing. பிறப்பிலி, s. He who is without birth--the Supreme Being, கடவுள். 2. Siva, சிவன். (p.) இறையிலி, s. He who is exempt from taxes; [ex இறை, tribute; இல், not; இ, affix.] இந்தநிலமிறையிலி. This field is not taxed. இல்பொருள், s. [in rhetoric.] Comparison with a thing that does not exist, உவமையணியி லொன்று--as எல்லாக்கமலத்தொழிலுந்திரண்டொ ன்றின் வில்லேர்புருவத்துவேனெடுங்கணல்லாண் முகம்போலும், the beauty of the face of the damsel whose eyes resemble a lance, and brow, a bow, is equal to the aggregate beauty of all lotuses. இல்லாதபொய், s. Downright lie, முழுப்பொய். இல்லாதவன், neg. appel. noun. One utterly destitute. இல்லாததும்பொல்லாதுஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To tell lies and speak evil of one. இல்லாமல், ver. part. Without. இல்லாமற்போனால், If not, otherwise. இல்லாமலிருக்க, inf. To be without, be wanting, be absent. இல்லாமை, neg. v. noun. Absence, destitution, privation, இன்மை. 2. Poverty, want, தரித்திரம். இல்லார்--இல்லோர், s. The poor, the destitute, those who are in want, தரித்திரர். இல்லெனல், v. noun. Death, extinction, சாதல். 2. Denying, இல்லையென் றசொல்லல். இல்லை, s. Negation, இன்மை. 2. A defective verb implying absolute negation, added to nouns, pronouns, verbs or participles. 3. Death, extinction of life, சாதல். இல்லையாகியவென்மகற்காண்பன். I shall see my deceased son. இல்லையாகில்--இல்லையென்கில்--இல்லையெ ன்றால். If not, or else, otherwise. வருகிறையோ இல்லையோ? Will you come or not? ஒருக்காலுமில்லை. Never. இதுவுமில்லை--அதுவுமில்லை--இரண்டுமில்லை. Neither this nor that, neither of the two. ஒற்றுமில்லை. Nothing. துப்புறவில்லை--பரிச்சேதமில்லை. Not at all. அளவில்லை. Beyond measure, immeasurable. இன்னதென்றில்லை. It is not described what it is, no matter what. இவ்வளவென்றில்லை. It is unascertained, not estimated, not measured. இல்வழக்கு, s. To be shivered, broken in many pieces. கண்டதுண்டப்படுத்த--கண்டதுண் டம்பண்ண, inf. To break to shivers. கண்டத்தலம், s. The neck, கழுத்து. கண்டநாளம், s. The gullet, தொண் டைக்குழி. கண்டஸ்நானம், s. Bathing as high as the neck, or without wetting the head, கழுத்துவரையிற்செய்யும்ஸ்நானம். கண்டபூர்த்தி, s. Much, abundance, satiety, நிறைவு. கண்டபூர்த்தியாகச்சாப்பிட்டான். He ate to satiety, he was satiated. கண்டப்புற்று, s. A disease in the throat, ஓர்நோய். கண்டமாலை, s. A disease appearing in tumors in the neck, inflammation of the glands, scrofula, கழுத்தில்வரும்புண். கண்டாமணி, s. A large bell, பெரு மணி. 2. tirumāl (p. 240) s. Vishnu, as lord of illusion, in the universe, விட்டுணு; [ex மால், illusion.] திருமாலவதாரம், 1. Ten incarnations of Vishnu. 1. Matsya, மச்சம், a fish assumed to kill சோமுகன், an Asura who had stolen the Vedas and hidden them in the sea. 2. Kurma, கூர்மம். tortoise, assumed to support Mount Mandara, used as a churning stick in churning the sea of milk to obtain Amrita, or nectar. 3. Varáha, வராகம், a boar, assumed to open and spread out the earth which இரணியாக்கன் had rolled up, as a scroll, and sunk in the ocean; and to kill him. 4. Narasingha, நரசிங்கம், manlion, assumed to destroy இரணியகசிபன், the younger brother of இரணியாக்கன், who, to avenge the death of his brother, had abolished the worship of Vishnu.--Note. These four were assumed without parents. 5. Váhmana, வாமனம், the dwarf born of காசிபன் and அதிதி to overcome மாபலி by deceit, coming to him as a beggar. 6. Parasurama, பரசுராமன், or the axe bearing Rama, born of சமதக்கினி and இரேணுகை to kill the Kshtriyas who oppressed the brahmans. 7. Ramachandra, இராமன், king of Ayodhya, born of தசரதன் and கோசலை, to kill Ravana, king of Lanka, and other Rakshasas. 8. Balab'hadra, பலபத் திரன், half brother of krishna; his father's name was வசுதேவன், and he had two mothers, தேவகி and உரோகணி. He come to destroy பிரலம்பன் and his Rakshasas. 9. Krishna, கண்ணன், son of வசு தேவன் and தேவகி, came to excite the wars of the Bharata, and to relieve the earth of its over-burdened population. 1. The horse, கற்கி, yet future, and for the purpose of destroying the universe.--Note. The poet Jayadeva places Krishna as the eighth and makes the ninth, Buddha. Another class of fifteen incarnations of Vishnu is given. 1. சனகன், Sanaka. 2. சனந்தனன், Sanandana. 3. சனாதன், Sanáta. 4. சனற்குமாரன், Sanatkumara. The five weapons of Vishnu. 1. சங்கம் or பாஞ்சசன்னியம், chank; 2. சக்கரம் or சுதரிசனம், a wheellike missile; 3. தனுசு or சாரங்கம், bow. 4. வாள் or நாந்தகம், sword; 5. தண்டு or கௌமோதகி, club.--Note. The bathing of பார்வதி, under whatever name for purification, திருஅபிஷேகம். 2. Bathing by women with fasting in honor of பார்வதி, ten days in December. திருமுறை, s. A class of sacred writings, odes, &c., திருவாசகம். திருமுற்றம், s. An open space for performing equestrain exercises, கோயிற் சந்நிதி. 2. Temples or sacred places of Vishnu, கோயில். 3. A horse race, course, hippodrome, குதிரைவையாளிவீதி. திருமுன்--திருமுன்பு, s. Divine presence, தேவசன்னிதானம். 2. Presence of a king or other great persons, பெரியோர் சன்னிதானம். திருமெழுக்கு, v. noun. Smearing the floor of a temple and adjacent parts with cow-dung, கோயில்மெழுகுகை. திருமேனி, s. A divine body, form, shape, &c., the person of a deity or saint, திவ்வியதேகம். 2. In some connections, the idol of a temple as a form of the God, விக்கிரகம்.--Note. All forms of deity or nature belong to the female energy. 3. Any ear-jewel worn by females, ஓராபரணம். 4. A plant, குப்பை மேனி, Acalypha, L. திருமேனிகன்றப்பிரம்படிகொண்டசிவனார்...... Siva who was beaten with a ratan so that his divine body was bruised. திருவடி, s. Divine feet, feet of a deity, கடவுளடி. 2. Saints or great one's feet, குருபாதம். திருவடிதீட்சை, s. The guru's placing his feet on the head of the disciple, as one of the modes of dispelling his sin. திருவடிப்பாதுகை, s. The sandals of a great or sacred person. திருவணை, s. Adam's bridge between Ramisseram and Ceylon, சேது; [ex அ ணை.] திருவண்ணாமலை, s. A sacred mountain, as அருணாசலம். திருவமுது, s. Boiled rice presented to a deity, idol or a great person, தெய்வ உணவு; [ex அமுது.] திருவமுதுசெய்ய--திருவமுதுபண்ண, inf. To cook for the idol, or a great person. திருவருட்பயன், s. A treatise in praise of Siva, ஓர்நூல். திருவலகு, s. A besom. See அலகு. திருவல்லிக்கேணி, s. A place sacred to Vishnu in the suburbs of Madras, Triplicane. திருவள்ளுவர், s. The celebrated author of the Cural, குறளாசிரியர். 2. His work, the Cural, குறள். திருவற்றவன்--திருவில்லான், s. An unfortunate person, not prosperous. திருவனந்தபுரம், s. A town on the Malabar coast sacred to Vishnu, Trivandrum. திருவாக்கு, s. The word, declaration or order of a deity, saint, guru, king or other great person; an oracle. திருவாக்குக்கெதிர்வாக்குண்டோ.... Is the word of a high personage to be controverted? திருவாசகம், s. A poem by மாணிக்க வாசகர். திருவாசல்--திருவாயில், s. The gates or door-ways of a temple, including all the openings between the worshipper and the idol, ஆலயவாயில். 2. [prov.] Poles on which an idol is carried in procession, விக்கிரகபீடத்தைக் காவுமரம். திருவாட்சி, s. See திருவாசி. திருவாதிரை, s. The sixth lunar asterism, ஆதிரை. திருவாத்தி, s. A flower tree sacred to Siva. See ஆத்தி. திருவாபரணம், s. The jewels of an idol, தெய்வாபரணம். திருவாய், s. Word, declaration, command, &c., of a deity, saint, guru, king, &c., தெய்வவாக்கு. திருவாய்மலர, inf. To utter, to declare, to speak, as divine person. திருவாய்மொழி, s. A book of note containing praises to Vishnu, ஆழ்வார்பா டல். திருவாரூர், s. A town in the Tanjore district sacred to Siva. திருவாவினன்குடி, s. The mountain town of Parlany, பழனி, one of the six places sacred to Skanda, முருகர்ஸ்தலம். திருவாழ்ங்கோடு--திருவான்கோடு, s. Travancore, a town and country at the S. W. extremity of southern India, ஓரூர். திருவாளன், s. A rich, prosperous man, செல்வன்; [ex ஆளன். திருவானைக்கா, s. A sacred place, near Trichinopoly, ஓர்ஸ்தலம். திருவிருந்து, s. A divine feast; used for the Lord's Supper, திவ்வியவிருந்து. திருவிலி, s. An unfortunate or poor person, தரித்திரி. 2. A widow or one who has lost her beauty, கைம்பெண்; [ex இலி.] திருவிழா, s. A temple festival, உற் சவம். 2. A temple procession. திருவிழாக்கொண்டாட, inf. To celebrate a festival. திருவிளக்கு, s. The lighted lamp of a temple, or as placed before a holy person, கோயிற்றீபம். 2. A lighted lamp as representing a god. திருவிளையாடல், v. noun. Sports of the deity, commonly of a wonderful, or miraculous character, தெய்வவிளையாட்டு. 2. A book treating on the sixty-four wonderful sports of Siva at Madura. அறுபத்துநாலுதிருவிளையாடல். The sixty-four sacred sports of Siva at Madura. திருவிளையாட்டு, v. noun. The wonderful sports of a deity, தெய்வலீலை. 2. [in burlesque.] Tricks, roguishness, frolics, பாடி. திருவுந்தியார், s. A section of திருவா சகம், composed by மாணிக்கவாசகர், Manikavasakar, திருவாசகத்தோருறுப்பு. திருவுளம்--திருவுள்ளம், s. The will of a god, a king, a guru, &c., [ex உளம், உள்ளம், mind.] 2. (fig.) The Supreme Being, கடவுள். திருவுளங்கொள்ள, inf. To approve, in case of a deity, or holy person; to deign, to be pleased. சுவாமிஅப்படியேதிருவுளங்கொண்டிருக்கிருக்கிறார்.... God is pleased to have it so. திருவுளச்சீட்டு, s. A lot cast or drawn. திருவுளச்செயல், s. Providential occurrence, providence. திருவுளமத்தியஸ்தம், s. Appeal to the deity. திருவுளமறிய, inf. To be witness--as the Supreme Being; used only in some form of the verb. திருவுளமறியச்சொல்லுகிறேன். I say it, God being witness. திருவுளம்பற்ற, inf. To speak, said of a deity or great person; to condescend to speak. திருவுளம்வைத்தல், v. noun. A deity, a guru, &c., exercising grace, deigning, vouchsafing. திருவுறுப்பு, s. A female ornament of solid gold bearing the figure of Lukshmi, worn on the forehead, நுதன்மே லணி. See உத்தி. திருவூசல்--திருவூஞ்சல், s. A swing for the idol, used on the last day of the annual festival, and on some other special occasions; a kind of cot, தேவவூச லாட்டு. திருவூஞ்சலாட, inf. To swing the idol. திருவேங்கடம், s. Ear-rings made of gold or copper worn by the பண்டாரம், the தம்பிரான், &c., சிவனடியார்காதணி. திருவேடம்பூண, inf. To wear the distinguishing marks of the Saiva sect. திருவேரகம், s. tīpāvaḷi (p. 243) --தீபாளி--தீவாளி, s. The lighting of lamps early in the morning on the fourth day of the decreasing moon in October, each one doing it, first putting a little oil on the head, to commemorate the killing of Naracasura by Krishna, ஓர்பெருநாள். W. p. 411. DEEPALEE. 12) *
மகா
makā (p. 338) adj. Great, high, exalted, dignified, noble, honorable, பெருமையான. 2. Immense, prodigious, stupendous, monstrous, extreme, அளவற்ற. 3. Superior, greater, paramount, superlative, உயர்ந்த. 4. Intense, மிகுந்த.--Note. This particle is sometimes repeated to express intensity, as மகாமகாப் பட்ட, the greatest. (Beschi.) Also sometimes contracted to மக, and மா, as மகராசா, மாசனங்கள்; [ex மகத்து.] அதுமகாஅரிது. It is very difficult. அதுமகாஅபூர்வம். It is very rare. மகராசன், s. A king, அரசன். 2. A rich or great or good man, சீமான். மகராசா, s. The king, the sovereign. மகராசி, s. A rich or benevolent lady; (lit.) a queen. மகரிஷி, s. An exalted Rishi, மகாரிஷி. மகாஅவதானி, s. A person who has excellent memory. மகாகருவம்--மகாகர்வம், s. Much arrogance. 2. Ten billions. மகாகற்பம், s. The great Kalpa, consisting of a vast period, probably the life time of Bramha, or 155,52,,, solar years, after which there will be a universal destruction.--Note. By analogy it would be only 1 கற்பம் of 4,32,, each or 43,2,, years; but கற்பம் is used very indefinitely. மகாகாசம்--மகாகாயம், s. The air, or ether at large; as distinguished from கடாகாசம், or air in a pot, the atmosphere, பெருவெளி. மகாகாலம், s. A great and long period of time, sometimes used for eternity, நெடுங்காலம். மகாகிதி--மகாக்ஷிதி, s. A certain number, one thousand trillions. மகாகோணி--மகாக்ஷோணி, s. Ten trillions. மகாகோரம், s. A division of hell, or Tartarus, நரகத்தினோரிடம். மகாசகை, s. A plant bearing an unfading flower, Gomphr&oe;na globosa, வாடா மல்லிகை. W. p. 652. MAHASAHA. மகாசங்கம், s. A hundred billions. 2. As மகாநாடு. மகாசங்காரம், s. The universal destruction. மகாசத்தி, s. The great and universally pervading female energy of deity. மகாசமுத்திரம், s. A number, usually one-hundred billions. 2. As மகோததி. மகாசனம், s. Great people, noble persons of high rank, உயர்ந்தோர். 2. Brahmans, பிராமணர். மகாசீனம், s. China proper. (adopted.) மகாசூரன், s. A very valiant man. மகாசேனன், s. A general, the commander of a large force, சேனாபதி. 2. Skanda, கந்தன். 3. Argha, அருகன். மகாசோபம்--மகாக்ஷோபம், s. A hundred-thousand trillions. மகாஸ்தலம்--மகாதலம், s. A sacred place. 2. Head quarters, the chief place, the court, நீதிஸ்தலம். மகாஞானி, s. One who has attained to the highest degree of religion. மகாண்டு, s. The Hindu cycle of sixty years; [ex ஆண்டு.] மகாதலம், s. The sixth of the nether worlds. See கீழுலகம். 2. As மகாஸ்தலம். மகாதிசை, s. Aggregate influence of the planets, counted according to the natal asterism for the horoscope. மகாதீவு, s. The Maldive islands, said to have been, in ancient times, one island. மகாதேவன், s. God, கடவுள். 2. Siva --as supreme, சிவன். 3. Epithet of god among various votaries, தெய்வம். 4. A god of the sea or waters, வருணன். மழையும்பிள்ளைப்பேறும்மகாதேவருக்குந்தெரியாது. Rain and child-birth are mysterious even to the gods. மகாதேவி, s. Parvati as the great goddess, பார்வதி. மகாதோஷம், s. Very great sin. மகாதோரை, s. A large number, ஓரெண். மகாத்தியாகம், s. [appel. n. மகாத்தியாகி.] Total and absolute abandonment of secularities, for abstract devotion and ultimate union with the deity. மகாத்துமா, s. [com. மகத்துமா.] An excellent man, (lit.) a great soul. மகாத்துமாக்களுடையலீலை, s. Superhuman exploits of Rishis. See இலீலை. மகாநசம். See மகானசம். மகாநவமி, s. The ninth phasis of the increasing moon in the month of September. See ஆயுதபூசை. மகாநாடு, s. The great council of a nation. மாநாடுகூடுதல், v. noun. Assembling --as the chiefs of a nation. மகாநிகற்பம், s. An inconceivable length of time, probably one-thousand கற்பம். மகாநிதி, s. One of Kuvera's treasures. See நிதி. மகாநுபாவன், s. [com. மானபாவன்.] An illustrious person. 2. A magnanimous liberal man. W. p. 649. MAHANUB'HAVA. 3. One who has advanced to the highest degree in religion, மகாத்துமன். மகாபதுமம், s. A thousand billions, ஓரெண். 2. See நிதி. மகாபதுமன், s. One of the eight serpents that support the earth. See அஷ்ட நாகம், under நாகம். மகாபலன், s. A strong person, பலாஷ் டிகன். 2. Air, wind, காற்று. W. p. 65. MAHABALA. மகாபலி, s. [com. மாபலி, மாவலி.] A king dethroned by Vishnu in his Dwarf Avatar. See பலி. மகாபாதகம்--மகாபாவம், s. Crime of the highest magnitude. See பஞ்சமாபாத கம். மகாபாரதம், s. Mahab'harat, the great epic poem; so called from its having outweighed the four Vedas, when weighed by the Rishis in a scale. புகாபுண்ணியம், s. Great religious merit. மகாபுத்திமான், s. A very wise man. மகாபுருஷன், s. One who is distinguished for peculiar personal qualities. மகாபூதம், s. Elementary principles. மகாபூரி, s. Ten quintillions, ஓரெண். மகாபோகம், s. Great enjoyment, enjoyment of affluence and luxury. மகாப்பிரகாசசத்தி, s. Mica, as அப் பிரகம். மகாப்பிரதோஷம், s. The thirteenth evening from the new and full moon, a time in which the Saivas, expect particular benefits from their religious exercises. See பிரதோஷம். மகாப்பிரபு, s. A very great, illustrious, or holy person. மகாப்பிரபுக்கள்சபை, s. House of lords. (adopted.) மகாப்பிரளயம், s. The great deluge which destroys the universe at the end of each great Kalpa See பிரளயம். 2. (fig.) A number, ஓரெண். மகாமகம், s. [com. மாமகம்--colloq. மாமா ங்கம்.] The occurrence of the full moon in or about the asterism, மகம், with other astronomical incidents, which occur once in twelve years. Peculiar rites in honor of Siva, are then performed. The time is auspicious for bathing, especially at Combaconum. மகாமண்டபம், s. An open large court of temple, the fourth from the shrine. மகாமந்திரம், s. [com. மூலமந்திரம்.] An appropriate name of Deity. மகாமந்திரமூர்த்திகள், s. A class of souls of a superior order, consisting of seventy-five millions. Of these, thirty-five millions attain liberation when the work of creation is finished. மகாமந்திரி, s. The prime minister. மகாமாயி--மகாமாரி, s. [com. மகமாயி.] A name of Durga, துர்க்கை. மகாமாயை, s. Mother of the king of the Asuras, சூரபன்மன்தாய். 2. As மாமாயை. மகாமிருகம், s. The elephant, யானை. மகாமுத்திரை, s. One of the symbols of the Yoga system, யோகமுத்திரை. மகாமுனி--மகாரிஷி, s. A great Muni. 2. A name of Agastya, அகஸ்தியன். மகாமேரு--மகமேரு, s. The great Meru, or golden mountain, thought to be in the middle of the Central continent. மகாயக்கியம்--மகாயாகம், s. The first order of sacrifices. It is of five kinds; 1. பிரமம், or வேதமோதல், reading and learning Vedas; 2. தெய்வம், or ஓமம்வ ளர்த்தல், kindling a sacrificial fire; 3. பூதம், or பலியீதல், fragments of food left at an oblation; 4. பிதிர், or தர்ப்பணமுடித் தல், presenting water to the manes of persons deceased; 5. மானுடம், or இரப் போர்க்குணவீதல், gifts to beggars. மகாயுகம், s. The great age, the aggregate of the four ages, 4,32, years. மகாயோசனை, s. A large number. மகாரணியம், s. A very large forest, பெருங்காடு; [ex ஆரணியம்.] மகாரதன்--மாரதன், s. A charioteer commanding 11, chariots; any warrior of note, 11,--ந்தேருக்குத்தலைவன். மகாராசன்--மகாராசா, s. A great king, a monarch. W.p. 651. MAHARAJA. 2. An epithet of Kuvera. 3. One who possesses elephants, யானைகட்டிவாழ்பவன். மகாராட்டிரம், s. [Tamil மராடம்.] The original Maharatta country. See தேசம். 2. The Maharatta language. See பாஷை. மகாலட்சுமி, s. The great Lukshmi, goddess of felicity. மகாலயம், s. The world of Brahma, பிரமனுலகம். 2. A temple, கோயில். மகாலுத்தன்--மகாலோபி, s. A very great niggard. மகாலோகம்--மகலோகம், s. One of the seven upper worlds. See மேலுலகு. மகாவராகம், s. Vishnu in the hogincarnation, விஷ்ணு. மகாவற்புதம், s. A large number, ஓர் பேரெண்; [ex அற்புதம்.] மகாவாக்கியம், s. A mystic word in the Vedanta, a religious formule among the Saivas and others. மகாவிசுவம்--மகாவிஷீவம்--மகாவிடு வம், s. [in astron.] The moment of the sun's entering Aries, the vernal equinox, but varying several days from the European computation, மேடத்திற்சூரி யன்வருகை. W. p. 651. MAHAVISHUVA. மகாவியாகிருதி, s. The three mystical words, Bhur, Bhuva and Swer, the essential part with ஓம், of the Gayatri of the Brahmans, in their daily incantations, காயத்திரிமந்திரம். மகாவிந்தம், s. A number probably one thousand billions, ஓரெண். 2. A certain city, நளனுடையநகரம். 3. A residence of Vishnu, வைகுந்தம். மகாவிந்து, s. Mica or talc, as அப் பிரகம். மகாவிரதம்--மாவிரதம், s. One of the six approved or orthodox sects of the Saiva religion, சைவசமயத்தொன்று. மகாவிரதர், s. [sing. மகாவிரதி.] Professors of the above sect, சைவர்கள். மகாவெள்ளம், s. A great flood. 2. (fig.) A great number, ஓரெண். மகேசன்--மகேசுரன்--மகேசுவரன்-மகேச்சுரன்--மகேச்சுவரன், s. Siva--as Mahasuran, or obscurer of souls. See பஞ்ச கர்த்தாக்கள். His consort is called மகேசு வரி. மகேந்திரசாலம், s. Astonishing supernatural appearances by magic. See கலை ஞானம், சாலம். மகேந்திரம், s. A range of mountains. See சத்தகுலாசலம். W. p. 658. MAHENDRA. 2. A mountain, மலை. 3. [in mythol. also மகேந்திரபுரி.] A famous town said to have been inhabited by the Asuras but afterwards submerged in the southern ocean, ஓர்நகரம். மகேந்திரன், s. Indra, இந்திரன். மகைசுவரியம், s. [also மகதைசுவரியம்.] Great opulence. மகோததி, s. The ocean, the great sea, கடல்; [ex உததி, sea.] 2. [prov. also இரத் தினாகரம்.] The northern sea, from its connection with India; and the Ganges as being north of Ramisseram. மகோதயம், s. Final beatitude, emancipation from vitality, and absorption into the divine essence, முத்தியிற்கலப்பு. W. p. 653. MAHODAYA. 2. The rising of the sun and moon in conjunction, on a Monday, the sun being in Capricorn, in the month of January, and the moon in the twenty-second lunar asterism, in the seventh யோகம்--regarded as a most auspicious moment for sacred bathing; such is called மகோதயதீர்த்தம். Compare அத்தோதயம். மகோதரம், s. Dropsy of the belly, ascites, ஓர்நோய். 2. A large belly, பெரு வயிறு; [ex உதரம், belly.] மகோதரன், s.
