koṭu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To give, grant, afford, bestow, present, ஈய. 2. In combination, to issue--as commands; கட்டளையளிக்க; to communicate, impart--as knowledge, அறிவிக்க; to supply, give aid, உத விசெய்ய; to stay with the hand, or give support, முட்டுக்கொடுக்க; to create, give existence--as the Supreme Being, சிருட் டிக்க; to give place, to yield, இடங்கொடுக்க. Note.-- This word is generally used in its direct meanings of give, &c., only when there is a receiver, so as to correspond with வாங்க. It is therefore, except as to the elephant, incorrectly, though commonly, used in reference to the lower animals, Strictly also it implies the giving of a superior, to an inferior; but these distinctions are little noticed. When combined with the gerund of another verb or with a noun, the meaning is often modified--as சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach; காட்டிக்கொடுக்க, to betray; முதுகு கொடுக்க, புறங்கொடுக்க, பின்கொடுக்க, to turn the back, to flee. கொடுப்பதொழியேல். Cease not to give [the poor.] கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல், v. noun. Dealing, bargaining. 2. Lending, borrowing, &c. அவனுக்குமெனக்குங்கொடுக்கல்வாங்கலுண்டு.... He and I have business transactions together. கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல்பண்ண, inf. To deal, bargain, barter; to lend and barrow. கொடுக்குமதி, s. [prov.] What is due to one, a debt. கொடாமை, v. noun. Not giving, withholding. கொடான். He will not give. கொடுத்துக்காட்ட, inf. To give and thus unintentionally encourage further application. கொடுத்துக்காட்டினால்விடார்கள். If you give way and encourage them, they will not let you be quiet. கற்றுக்கொடுக்க, inf. [loc.] To teach. சாகக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lose by death-as a mother her child, &c. புருஷனையுமகனையுஞ்சாகக்கொடுத்தேன்..... I have given my husband and son to death--lost them by death. நிறங்கொடுக்க, inf. To tinge, give a color. 2. To be sleek, smooth, plump-as a person in health. பால்பழங்கொடுக்க, inf. To present milk and peeled plantain--as the bride, to the bridegroom; the first food supplied to him. பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To finish and give to another. 2. To marry; to give in marriage. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take and give, that is, buy for another. கொடுப்பன--கொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Giving in marriage, கொள்வனை is receiving or marrying. எங்களுக்குமவர்களுக்குங் கொள்வினைகொடுப்பினை யில்லை. We do not intermarry. 6)

kol (p. 146) part. A poetic expletive--as in காணுங்கொல், he will see, அசைச்சொல். 2. A particle implying doubt; frequently interrogative or connected with interrogative forms--as in காணார்கொல், will they not see--ஐயக்கிளவி. 3. The fifth lunar asterism, மிருகசீரிடநாள். (சது.) 2. See பேர், name. பேரானந்தம், s. [also பேரின்பம்.] Supreme enjoyment, final bliss, as பரமா னந்தம். பேரியாழ், s. One of the four kinds of musical instruments. See யாழ். பேரிலக்கம், s. [in arith.] A whole number, முழுவிலக்கம். பேரிழவு, s. [vul. பேரெழவு.] A great calamity--as many deaths in a family. If you desire heavenly joy, give up sensual pleasure. பேரின்பக்காதல், s. A poem. See காதல். பேரின்பப்பாட்டு, s. A song or verses addressed to a deity--oppos. to சிற்றின் பப்பாட்டு. பேரீச்சு--பேரீஞ்சு--பேரீந்து, s. The date-tree. See ஈச்சு. பேரீச்சம்பழம், s. Dates, fruit of the பேரீஞ்சு. பேருண்டி, s. [also பேருணவு.] A principal meal--oppos. to சிற்றுண்டி. பேருதவி, s. Help in great extremity. பேருமரி, s. A delicate, brittle, saltish herb. See உமரி பேரூர், s. A large town or district. 2. A town in an agricultural tract, கிராமம். 3. As மேலைச்சிதம்பரம். பை பைங்கிளி--பைந்தார்--பைந்தினை. See under பசு, adj. signifying green, &c. பைங்கூழ், s. Growing corn, or other crops, பயிர். 2. māṟu (p. 351) கிறேன், மாறினேன், வேன், மாற, v. n. To become changed, exchanged, altered, reversed, cured; corrected in state, place, form, appearance, வேறுபட. 2. [improp. for மாற்று.] To change money, as மாறிக்கொ ண்டவன், he who has changed [a rupee]. 3. To lose an employment, with the dative of the person, as அவனுக்குத்தியோகம்மாறிப்போ யிற்று. 4. [in combin.] To change, as மாறி விழ, to draw back from a promise; மாறிவிழு ந்துபேசுகிறது, to tergiversate. 5. v. a. To whip with a rod, அடிக்க. 6. To exchange goods; to barter, பொருள்மாற. 7. To multiply numbers, எண்பெருக்க. 8. [prov.] To deny, மறுக்க. (c.) மரங்காய்த்துமாறிப்போயிற்று. The tree has ceased to bear fruit. அவனுக்குத்தியோகம்மாறிப்போயிற்று. To derange, change, or alter for the worse, கெடுக்க. 5. To abrogate, repeal, கலைக்க. 6. To involve, reduce nature to its primitive elements by resolving the whole into the deity, நிக்கிரகிக்க. 7.
