ir (p. 48) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To beg alms, solicit aid, seek support by begging--as religious mendicants, பிச்சைகேட்க. 2. To pray, beseech, entreat, solicit, வேண்டிக்கொள்ள. இரந்தும்பரந்தவர்க்கீந்தவர். Those who give to beggars although they themselves have to ask alms. இரந்துணி--இரந்துண்ணி, s. A beggar, இரப்போன். uruṭṭu (p. 65) கிறேன், உருட்டினேன், வேன், உருட்ட, v. a. To roll a ball, or wheel, trundle a hoop, &c., to wheel a barrow, to bowl, turn about, revolve a thing on a plane, to whirl, (a discus, &c.), passing through the air at right angles with the horizon, உருளச்செய்ய. 2. [prov.] To defeat a rival by arguments, sophistry, &c., to overcome in athletic exercises, games, to overmatch, வெல்ல. 3. To beat a drum rapidly, to beat a ruffle, மத்தளம்விரை வாயடிக்க. 4. [in architecture.] To form a moulding, திரட்ட. 5. To form clay or other substances into balls or globules by rolling, working in the hand, &c; குண் டுருட்ட; [ex உருள், v.] உலகுக்குநாயகனாயோராழிதனியுருட்டி. Guiding the wheel of power as the sovereign of the universe. அவனைப்புடையனுருட்டும். The beaver snake will bite, will tumble him over (and bite him). (A curse.) உருட்டித்தைக்க, inf. To roll and sew a border--a kind of hemming. உருட்டிப்பார்க்க--உருட்டிவிழிக் க, inf. To roll the eyes and look intently with signs of anger or intimidation. உருட்டிப்போட, inf. To roll a ball, &c. 2. To defeat by arguments, by a display of skill, or by sophistry, to overcome in games, &c., புரட்டிவிட, 3. To be the cause of ruin to a family, &c., அழித்துப்போட. அசத்தியமந்தக்குடியையுருட்டிபோட்டது. Perjury has ruined the family. ஆனையவனையுருட்டிப்போட்டது. The elephant rolled him over and over. உருட்டுதிரைக்கடல், s. The sea with rolling billows. குளிகையுருட்ட--மாத்திரையுருட் ட, inf. To form or make pills. (Med.) நாயுருட்ட, inf. To tumble down and bite--said of a dog. வாயாலுருட்ட, inf. To use sophistry, to dispute clamorously. கவறுருட்ட, inf. To throw dice'. உருட்டு, v. noun. Rolling, revolving on a plane, the revolution or turning of a wheel, whirling, உருட்டுகை. 2. Fraud, artifice, trick, sophistry in overcoming an antagonist, புரட்டு. 3. [in architecture.] Roundness, globosity, moulding, திரட்சி. 4. Terrifying, frightening, driving away, வெருட்டு. உருட்டும்புரட்டுஞ்சிரட்டையுங்கையும். Prevarication and lying lead to begging. ēntu (p. 79) கிறேன், ஏந்தினேன், வேன், ஏந்த, v. a. To sustain, support, hold up, to carry in the hand--as a weapon, &c., to endure, to sustain a character, reputation, &c.; to support--as a beam, pillars, &c., தாங்க. 2. To raise or spread out hands --as a beggar; to raise a thing with the hands spread, கையேந்த. 3. To catch or receive in the hands or arms, to receive as flowing water, rain, &c., with the hands or with a vessel in the hands, பாத்திரமுதலி யவற்றையேந்த. 4. To hand up with extended arms, கையிலேந்திக்கொடுக்க. 5. v. n. To be elevated, exalted, உயர. ஏந்தியகொள்கையார். Persons of exalted character. (குறள். அதி. 9.) கையேந்திநிற்க. To stand begging with the arms extended. முன்றானையேந்தியிரத்தல். Spreading a corner of the cloth and begging. ஏந்திக்கொள்ள, inf. To hold up any thing. 2. To give a helping hand. ஏந்திசை, s. [in pros.] One of the three varieties of harmony in a verse consequent on a peculiar combination of metrical feet. ஏந்திசைச்செப்பல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to வெண்பா verses composed of வெண்சீர் வெண்டளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசைத்துள்ளல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to கலி verses of கலித் தளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசைத்தூங்கல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to வஞ்சி verses of ஒன்றியவஞ்சித்தளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திசையகவல், s. The harmony of sounds peculiar to அகவல் verses of நேர்நேரியற்றளை; also, a verse of that harmony. ஏந்திழையார், s. Women, the adorned, பெண்கள். (p.) ஏந்துகொம்பு, s. The tusks of an elephant, curved upward and terminating horizontally, யானைக்கொம்பு. 2. A curved palankeen pole, or pole for carrying a load, தாங்குகொம்பு. ஏந்தெழில், s. Surpassing beauty. பிள்ளையேந்த, inf. To take a child from another. 2. To carry a child in the arms. ஏந்தல், v. noun. Holding up, raising, &c., one of the three harmonies. ஏந்தல்வண்ணம், s. A poem in which the same words are repeated for the purposes of clearness and strength, ஓர்சந்தம். ஏந்தானம், s. [prop. ஏந்துதானம்.] A hanging shelf, a rack, grate, shelf to set things on, தூக்கங்கள். 2. The hands, or arms extended forward or locked with another's, to carry a child, a thing, &c., கையிலேந்துகை. ஏந்தானத்திலேகொண்டுபோகிறது. To carry on the hands so extended. ஏந்தி, s. A bearer, supporter, one invested with, கையேந்துபவன்--used in combination only. 23)

ēl (p. 79) ஏற்கிறேன், ஏற்றேன், ஏற்பேன், ஏற்க, v. a. To receive, accept, admit, allow in argument, concede, welcome, கொ ள்ள. 2. To agree to, assent, approve, to like, ஒப்புக்கொள்ள. 3. To adopt--as a child, a sentiment; to embrace, espouse, receive, அங்கீகரிக்க. 4. To receive alms, gifts, &c.-as a beggar, to receive in hand, பிச்சையேற்க. 5. To stretch out the hands in supplication, begging, &c., பிச்சைவாங்க. 6. To undertake, enter upon, engage in, make an engagement, கையிட. 7. To take charge of, take the responsibility of, கையேற்க. 8. Begging is disgraceful. கட்டளைப்படிநடந்தால்நீயவருக்கேற்பாய். If you act according to orders you will be acceptable to him. அதுதெய்வத்திற்கேலாது. [commonly ஏராது or ஏற்கமாட்டாது.] That will not be acceptable or proper in the sight of God. இதுதிருவுளத்திற்கேற்குமா. Will this be agreeable to the divine mind? is it just? meaning it is not. இந்தப்பிரமகத்திபாதகத்தையுமேற்றுக்கொள்வாய்... And the crime of this brahmanicide you become chargeable with. எதிரேற்றதெவ்வர். The opposing foes. வீடணன்மேற்போனவேலேற்றநன்றி. The kindness of Latchmana in receiving (into his own breast) the dart thrown at Vibeeshana. ஏற்போர், s. Beggars, religious mendicants, brahmans. ஏற்றசமயம், s. A suitable or convenient time. ஏற்றபடி--ஏற்றவாறு, adv. At random, without premeditation. 2. As is fit. mete, becoming, appropriate, proper, suitable, equitable. 3. As one likes, according to one's own pleasure. ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள, inf. To receive, admit, allow, agree, to accept. 2. To undertake, engage in. 3. To take charge of, become responsible for. ஏற்க--ஏற்கவே, adv. Properly, suitably, தக. 2. [prov.] Before, முன் (also ஏற்கன, improperly). ஏற்கநடக்க, inf. To behave properly or with moral rectitude. 2. To act so as to please. ஏற்கை--ஏற்பு, v. noun. Agreement, approbation, பொருத்தம். 2. Acceptation, reception, acceptance, அங்கீகாரம். 3. Receiving alms, &c., பிச்சையேற்கை. ஏற்புழிக்கோடல், v. noun. Applying grammatical rules, definitions, &c. where they may properly apply, allowing of exceptions, exercising discretion, &c.--one of the உத்தி. ஏற்புறவணிய, inf. aiym (p. 80) s. Doubt, hesitation, uncertainty, indecision, suspense, scepticism, terms or probability, possibility, and any thing short of positive certainty are included, சந்தேகம். 2. (p.) Alms, charity, பிச்சை. 3. A beggar's vessel or shell, இரப்போர்கலம். 4. Phlegm--one of the humors of the body, சிலேட்டுமம். 5. Doubt, surprise, &c.--as one of the துறை, அகப்பொருட்டுறையினொன்று-as, போதோவிசும்போபுனலோபணிகளது பதியோ யா தோவறிகுவதேதுமரிது, whether the place the damsel occupies is a lotus flower, the world of the gods, water, or the world of serpents, it is difficult to determine. ஐயம்புகினுஞ் செய்வினைசெய். Though you go abegging, perform your duties. (ஔ வை.) ஐயகணசூலை, s. An arthritic disease arising from phlegm and heat, ஆறுசூலையிலொன்று. ஐயக்காட்சி, s. An object of subject exciting doubt, indistinct perception, problematical or hypothetical terms, அதுவோவிதுவோவெனக்காண்கை. (See காட்சி.) 2. Doubt, சந்தேகம். ஐயக்காரன், s. A beggar, a mendicant, பிச்சைக்காரன். ஐயக்கிளவி, s. Terms or particles of doubt or uncertainty, commonly found in interrogative expressions, ஐய மொழி--such as ஆ, ஏ, ஓ, கொல், யா, &c. ஐயநாடி, s. One of the three states of the pulse--that in which the phlegmatic humor is supposed to be prevalent in the system, சிலேட்டுமநாடி. See நாடி. ஐயப்பட, inf. To doubt, hesitate. ஐயப்படாமை, neg. v. noun. Freedom from doubt and fear, certainty, undauntedness, சந்தேகங்கொள்ளாமை. 2. One of the eight அறத்துறுப்பு. See உறுப்பு. ஐயப்பாடு, s. Doubt, uncertainty, indecision, apprehension, suspense, சந் தேகம். ஐயமறுக்க, inf. One of the five kinds of questions which are proposed to remove doubt from the mind, சந்தேக நிவர்த்திசெய்ய. ஐயமிட, inf. To give alms, பிச் சையிட. ஐயமிட்டுண். Give alms before you eat. ஐயமுற, inf. To doubt, சந்தேகம டைய. ஐயமேலிட, inf. To be in a great doubt, சந்தேகமதிகரிக்க. 2. To have the rattles in the throat--as a dying person, சிலேட்டுமமேலிட. ஐயவணி, s. A figure in rhetoric-as where doubt is entertained as to whether a thing which bears analogy to another is identical with or distinct from it--as தாதளவிவண்டுதடுமாறுந்தாமரைகொ ல் மாதர்விழியுலவும் வாண்முகங்கொல். I doubt whether it is the face of a woman or a lotus flower, since it resembles so much the latter. ஐயவதிசயம், s. A figure in rhetoric, ஓரலங்காரம். ஐயவிலக்கு, s. A figure in rhetoric, ஓரலங்காரம். ஐயவும்மை, s. A particle showing uncertainty, doubt. See உம். ஐயவுவமை, s. A figure in rhetoric, ஓரலங்காரம். ஐயுற, inf. To doubt, hesitate, to be undecided, to suspect, to be in suspense, சந்தேகமடைய. சக்கரஞ்சுற்றுகின்றமைகண்டையுற்று. Wondering at the sight of the whirling discus. பக்கத்தார்யாரையுமையுறுதல். keñcu (p. 136) கிறேன், கெஞ்சினேன், வேன், கெ ஞ்ச, v. a. and v. n. To beg humbly, to entreat, crave, beseech with supplicating gestures, வருந்தியிரக்க. கெஞ்சவடிக்க, inf. [local.] To cause one to beg. கெஞ்சவைக்க, inf. To detain a beggsr before giving. 2. To cause one to crave. கெஞ்சிக்கேட்க, inf. To beg, entreat, beseech. கெஞ்சிக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To beat or strike, அடிக்க. கோவிலைச்சாட்டிவயிறுவளர்க்கிறான். He maintains himself under the pretence of serving (begging for) the temple. சாட்டிக்கழிக்க, inf. cirṭṭai (p. 185) s. A piece of cocoanut-shell; கொட்டாங்கச்சி.--Note. This word and its derivatives are current only at the South. நான்சிரட்டையுங்கையுமானேன். I am reduced to beggary; (lit.) cocoanut shell in hand. சிரட்டைகொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To go a begging, carrying a cocoa-nut shell. சிரட்டைக்கண், s. The hole or eye of a cocoa-nut shell. சிரட்டைக்கைச்சி--சிரட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov.] A half or other piece of a cocoa-nut shell. சிரட்டைபற்றாதகுரும்பை, s. Young cocoa-nuts on which the shell is unformed. சிரட்டைமுற்றல், v. noun. The maturing of a cocoa-nut shell. சிரட்டைமோதிரம், s. [prov.] Rings of talipot-shells. அடிச்சிரட்டை, s. [prov.] Thick half, or bottom of a cocoa-nut shell--used as a vessel, &c. இரட்டைச்சிரட்டை, s. A shell with a scaly lining, (lit.) a double shell. கண்சிரட்டை, s. The half or top of the cocoa-nut shell--often burnt to prevent the blight of the eye. 44) *

Prosperity is not permanent. நின்றதுநிற்கப்புறப்பட்டார். He set out abruptly. நின்றநாளைக்குமுதலும்வட்டியும். The principal with the interest for the time it was in hand. நின்றநிலையிலேநில்லாதே. Don't continue standing. தெய்வம்நின்றுகொல்லும். God is slow in punishing men. அதுநிற்க. To let that be; [a form of expression used in reverting to another point.] கேட்டுநிற்க, inf.
