சன்னிதி
caṉṉiti (p. 173) s. Presence, nearness, proximity, சமீபம். 2. (c.) The presence of the deity, guru or some great person, திருமுகம். W. p. 891. SANNIDHI. 3. A temple, கோயில். 4. (p.) The holy, உயர்ந்தோன். சன்னிதிப்பட, inf. To attain to the presence of one. பண்டாரசன்னிதி, s. A college, or monastery of Pandarams, of which there are several in different towns in the Tamil district. 2. The chief of the பண் டாரச்சன்னிதி--Note. Into this fraternity, any person of good caste willing to obey the rules of the order, is received and is supported in it, the establishments being richly endowed. One rule of the order is perpetual celibacy. They wear beads; cloths reddened by dipping in red ochre; a kind of pinch-beck-ear ornament, instead of a gold one; entangled locks or unshorn hair. The chief of the order is guru to the rest, and receives homage from them. The members are each called தம்பிரான், Tambiran.
சமுசாரம்
camucāram (p. 163) s. The family state, as tending to promote earthly attachments, இல்வாழ்க்கை. 2. Family, குடும்பம். (c.) 3. Worldly attachments or connections, secularity--as distinguished from abstract devotion; earthliness, worldliness, உலகப் பற்று. 4. Mortal or corporeal existence; the state of being in connexion with and subject to births, பிறவிக்கேதுவானவை. W. p. 876. SAMSARA. 5. [little used.] The world --as the habitation of mortals or corporeal beings, உலகசஞ்சாரம். 6. [vul.] A wife, மனைவி. சமுசராஞ்சரலதுக்கம். Matrimony has many sorrows. சமுசாரம்விழுந்துபோயிற்று. The wife is dead. சமுசாரத்திலடிபட்டவன். One who has experienced the troubles, accompanying the matrimonial state, and house-keeping. சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. House-hold duties. சமுசாரக்காரன், s. A married man. 2. A man who has children. சமுசாரசன்னியாசம், s. Renunciation of matrimonial life, celibacy. சமுசாரத்தொல்லை, s. Cares and vexation of a family. சமுசாரநாசம், s. The ruin of a family. 2. (p.) Annihilation of the passions; overcoming earthly attachments--as an ascetic. சமுசாரபாரம், s. The burden and responsibility of a family, &c.--as குடும்ப பாரம். சமுசாரமார்க்கம், s. Conjugal life; the family state, as distinguished from the state of the bachelor or ascetic. 2. Domestic duties. (c.) சமுசாரம்நடத்த--சமுசாரம்பண்ண, inf. To manage a family. சமுசாரவாளி, s. [vul.] A married man. சமுசாரவாழ்வு, s. Conjugal life, conjugal felicity. சமுசாரம்பெருத்தவன், appel. n. One who has a large family. சமுசாரவிருத்தி, s. Increase of family. 2. [prov.] Family cares, concerns, affairs, சமுசாரத்தனம். சமுசாரி, s. A married person--man or woman, கிரகஸ்தன். (c.) 2. (fig.) One involved in the results of actions, transmigration, secularities, &c., பந்தமுடைய வன். 3. [loc.] A husband-man, a tiller; a farmer, குடியானவன். சமுசாரித்தொழில், s. Husbandry. சமுசாரிமார்க்கம், s. [loc.] Nuptial or matrimonial state; a chaste, honest course of life. சமுசாரிமகன், s. A man of virtuous life. (c.) பாரிசமுசாரம்--பாரிக்குடும்பம், s. A large family. (c.) See பாரி. 50)
சா
cā (p. 174) கிறேன், செத்தேன், வேன், சாக, v. n. To die, இறக்க. 2. To perish or be injured --as grain--, &c., கெட. 3. To dry up--as a sore, &c., காய்ந்துபோக. (Sa. Jya.)--Note. சாவ and sometimes சா are used in poetry for சாக. and சாம் for சாகும். அவள்பேரிலேசாகிறான். He is dying (from love) for her. சாவதுபிழைப்பதாயிருக்கிறான். He is dangerously ill. செத்துப்பிழைத்தாயா. Are you just come to life? Spoken of one absent, or inattentive who afterwards asks for an explanation. செத்தவீடு. A funeral-house. கால்கைசெத்துப்போயின. The arms and legs are wearied by walking, &c. சாகக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lose a near relative, to be bereft--used chiefly in expressions of regret, and in lamentations for the dead. சாகக்கொல்ல, inf. To kill, to kill outright. 2. (fig.) To harass, to torment. சாகத்துணிந்தவன், s. One who voluntarily braves death in battle, or by any desperate act. சன்னியாசிகள்பந்தி, s. [R. Catho. usage.] The order of monks. பாலசன்னியாசி, s. One who devotes himself from his youth to ascetic life, lives in celibacy, &c., 2. The pupil of a முனி, muni, முனிசீஷன். 5) *
தம்பிரான்
tampirāṉ (p. 224) s. God the Supreme Being. (See எம்பிரான், and உம்பிரான்.) 2. A title of royalty in Travancore, பொன்னந்தம்பிரான். 3. A kind of monk, devoted to celibacy, in token of which he wears red garments and clotted hair; is generally learned and qualified to perform the Siva-pujah. There are several colleges of the order in different places, துறவி. 4. [prov.] An overseer of the monks, as கட்டளைத்தம்பிரான். which see; [ex தம்.] (c.) தலைதப்பினதுதம்பிரான்புண்ணியம். By the grace of God, your head escaped. தம்பிரான்கடாட்சம், s. The grace of God. 2. The favor of தம்பிரான். பெரியதம்பிரான், s. A chief among the Saiva ascetics. 2. A form of Siva sometimes represented by a monstrous image of burnt clay or plaster, worshipped by washermen and others. 10)

viratam (p. 397) s. A vow, an oath, ஆணை. 2. Penance, தவம். 3. Fasting or other voluntary religious observance--one of the seven good deeds. See புண்ணியம். [Sa. Vrata.] விரதங்காக்க, inf. To keep a vow--as of perpetual celibacy, continency, &c. விரதத்துவம், s. A state of self-inflicted austerity. விரதநியமம், s. Act of initiating, தீட் சித்தல். விரதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To fast. விரதம்விட, inf. To break a fast. விரதர், s. Ascetics, mendicants, தவத் தோர். (உபநி.) விரதி, s. One who has renounced the world, துறவி. (சது.) 11) *
