oṉṟu (p. 84) s. One (the numeral), ஒன் றென்னுமெண். 2. One thing, அஃறிணையொரு மை. 3. Union, coalescence, ஐக்கம். 4. In construction, it means either, or--as ஒன் றுதீவினையைவிடு, ஒன்றுஅதின்பயனைநுகர், either abandon your evil deeds, or take the consequences. ஒன்றத்தனைகொடுத்தால்நானிரண்டத்தனைகொடுப் பேன். If he has given once as much, I will give twice. ஒன்றாறுகிறானில்லை. He so wonders that he knows not when to cease extolling. 2. His sorrow, regret, &c. is unremitted. ஒன்றிலிருந்தொன்றிலேபாய்தல். Talking loosely, incoherently, jumping from one thing to another. ஒன்றினுளொன்று. One among another, reciprocally, mutually. ஒன்றுகேள். Listen to a word of advice, hear what I have to say. ஒன்றுக்குமசையான். He is moved by nothing. ஒன்றுமொன்றுமிரண்டென்றுதெரியாதவன். A person so ignorant that he cannot tell that one and one make two. ஒன்றுவிட்டொருநாள். Every other day, alternate days. ஒன்றேயொன்று. One only. ஒன்றோஅவனாலேகேடு. Have I sustained but one loss by him? நான்சொன்னதொன்று, அவன்செய்ததொன்று. I told him one thing and he did another. மனமொன்றுவாக்கொன்று. His profession is one thing and intention another. ஒன்றரை, s. One and a half. ஒன்றன்கூட்டம், s. A collection of similar things, ஒருபொருட்கூட்டம். (p.) ஒன்றன்பால், s. [in grammar.] Neuter singular of the irrational class, அஃறி ணையொருமைப்பால். ஒன்றாய், adv. Together, altogether, ஒன்றாக. ஒன்றாலொன்றும். By any means, யாதொன்றினாலும். ஒன்றாலொன்றுங்குறையில்லை. There is no lack at all--commonly applied to provisions, the country produce, &c. ஒன்றி, s. [vul. ஒண்டி.] One, alone, solitary, lonely (spoken of persons), தனி. ஒன்றிக்காரன்--ஒன்றியாள், s. A bachelor, a widower, a single or lonely person, தனியாள். ஒன்றினமுடித்தறன்னினமுடித்தல், v. noun. [in grammar.] Forming a rule or definition so as to include others, ஒருத்தி. ஒன்றுக்கு. For one thing, viz.: to make water--the common expression among school boys when asking to go out for this purpose. ஒன்றுக்கிருக்க, inf. To sit or squat down or go for one thing, viz.: to make water, நீர்விட. ஒன்றுக்குப்போக, inf. To make water. ஒன்றுக்கொன்று. To or for each other. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுசரி. They are equal, alike, &c. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுபேசிக்கொண்டார்கள். [vul.] They have called each other by hard names. ஒன்றுக்கொன்றுவித்தியாசம். Different one from another. ஒன்றுபட, inf. To become reconciled, ஒப்புரவாக. 2. To be united, to coalesce, பொருந்த. ஒன்றுபடுத்த, inf. To bring about a union or acquaintance between persons, ஒருமைப்படுத்த. 2. To reconcile, ஒப் புரவாக்க. ஒன்றுபாதி, s. [prov.] A moiety, a half-commonly of land, அரை. 2. Midnight, நடுச்சாமம். அவன்தன்சரக்கையொன்றுபாதியாகவிற்றுப்போட் டான். He sold his goods at half price. ஒன்றுமண்டடி--ஒன்றுமன்றடி, s. Concord, union, harmony, intimate familiarity. 2. Confusion, want of order or system. ஒன்றுமறியாதவன், s. One who knows nothing. ஒன்றுமறியாதவனுமில்லைஎல்லாமறிந்தவனுமில்லை. None is so ignorant as to know nothing --none so wise as to know every thing. ஒன்றுமற்றவன், s. A useless person, உபயோகமற்றவன். 2. A very poor person, தரித்திரன். ஒன்றுமில்லாமை--ஒன்றுமின்மை, s. Utter destitution, the relinquishing of every thing--as an act of devotion. (அறநெறி.) ஒன்றேகால், s. One and a quarter. ஒன்றொழிபொதுச்சொல், s. [in grammar.] Terms common to both genders, one only of which is understood, the other being excluded by the connexion, இருதிணையாண்பெண்ணுளொன்றனை யொழிக்கும்பொதுச்சொல்--as ஆயிரமக்கள்பொரு தார், a thousand persons fought; i. e. men. 33)

oṟṟumai (p. 84) s. Union, coalescence, concord, contact, agreement, unison, ஒரு மை. 2. Oneness, sameness, participation of the same qualities, வேறன்மை. 3. Peculiarity, peculiar rights, relation, propriety, உரிமை. 4. Application of mind to one object, close attention, marking with the mind, மனமொன்றுகை. 5. Compound, mixture, கலப்பு. ஒற்றுமைகொள்ளுநெஞ்சனாய். Having the powers of mind concentrated in divine meditation-- (சேதுப்.) எல்லாருமொற்றுமைப்பட்டிருக்கிறார்கள். They are all closely united. தெய்வவொற்றுமையிருந்தால் If providence favor-ஒற்றுமைகோடல், v. noun. Living in peace with others--one of the ten வேளாண்மைமாந்தரியல்பு. ஒற்றுமைநயம், s. Combination, intimate connection, mutual agreement, close union--opp. to வேற்றுமைநயம். (நன் னூல்.) 29)

canti (p. 159) s. A joining, junction, meeting, union, combination, இசைப்பு. 2. The meeting or junction of two or more roads, rivers, &c., or the place of such meeting, சந்திக்குமிடம். 3. The joining of words, and the changes of letters by elision, reduplication, and substitution in the coalescence of words with each other, or in the addition to a word of particles expressing case, or in the formation of derivatives from a primitive, விகுதிமுதலிய வற்றின்புணர்ச்சி. 4. The intervals of morning and evening twilight, especially the latter, regarded as the union of the day and night, மாலைநேரம்; thus அந்திசந்தி, morning and evening. (c.) 5. A period at the expiration of each yuga, connecting it with the following, and occupying 1/12 of each, during which a gradual change takes place in the world, introductory to the peculiarities of the succeeding yuga; also a period of the same length, as the Satya yuga at the end of each Manvantara and of each Kalpa, யுகசந்தி. W. p. 889. SANDHI. 6. Reconciliation, pacification, forming friendship, நட்பாதல். 7. The bamboo, so called from its knots, மூங்கில். 8. The stated worship for each individual, morning and evening, and with some in mid-day, சந்தியாவந்தனம். (p.) 9. Division of time in a day, especially meal time--as ஒருசந்தி, one meal, it being fast-day. (c.) 1. [loc.] Juncture, crisis, a critical point of time, தறுவாய். சந்திகாவலன், s. [prov.] As அந்திகாவ லன், which see. சந்திக்கரை, s. The place where several roads or rivers meet. (c.) சந்திபண்ண--சந்திமுடிக்க, inf. To perform he daily private worship, morning, noon and evening. (p.) சந்திப்பாடு, v. noun. A mishap supposed to be caused by a malignant spirit in a cross way, or other haunted place. சந்திமறிக்க, inf. [loc.] to avert the displeasure of malignant divinities, in time of epidemics, by presenting them cooling offerings at cross roads, and thus to stop their progress into the country. சந்திமிதிக்க, inf. [prov.] To pass across way at an auspicious time, as after recovering from sickness, especially from the small pox, on first going out. சந்திமிதிப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a child to walk the first time on the 6th month in places where two or more ways meet. சந்தியாகாலம், s. The period of evening twilight, மாலைநேரம். 2. The three seasons of stated worship. (See சந்தி.) 3. The interval between one yuga and another, யுகசந்தி; [ex Sa. Sandhya.] W. p. 89. சந்தியாகாலகருமம், s. Evening devotion. (R.) சந்தியாராகம், s. The redness of the sky at sun-set. (R.) சந்தியாவந்தனம்--சந்தியாவந்தனை, s. [prov. சந்திவந்தனை.] Worship at any of the three stated periods; [ex வந்தனை, worship.] சந்தியிலிருக்க, inf. [prov.] To be ruined, to be driven into the street. சந்தியில்வைக்க, inf. To ruin a person, (lit.) to drive him into the streets. சந்திவிக்கிரகம், s. Forming a friendship with enemies to compass their ruin; one of the modes recommended for dealing with enemies. (p.) சந்தியிற்கொண்டுவர, inf. [prov. fig.] To expose a person to ridicule and shame (lit.) to bring to the street. முச்சந்தி, s. The meeting of three roads. நாற்சந்தி, s. The meeting of four roads or streets. சொற்சந்தி, s. One word combining with another in sense. சந்திவழு, s. Impropriety in the use of grammatical sandhi. The three grammatical sandhis as applied to words of Sanscrit origin are, 1. தீர்க்கசந்தி. 2. குண சந்தி. 3. விருத்திசந்தி. To these a fourth, ஆ திவிருத்திசந்தி is added. (நன்.) சந்திகாரியம், s. cār (p. 179) --சாரு, கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், சார, v. n. To lean upon, to recline against, சாய. 2. To rest on or in, to repose on, to depend on, to adhere to, பற்றிக்கொள்ள. 3. To apply to, to resort to, to take shelter or refuge with, அடைய. 4. To approach, to approximate, to incline towards, அணுக. 5. To gain access to, to reach, to arrive at, கிட்ட. 6. To side with, to join a party ஓர்பாற்சார. 7. To be attached to, connected with, &c., அனுசாரமாக. 8. To be biassed or warped in judgment, to be partial to, நடுநிலைகோண. (c.) 9. [prov.] A party grown palm leaf next after that last put out, முதிர்ந்தகுருத்தோலை. (R.) சார்ந்தார்--சார்ந்தோர், s. Relatives, சுற்றத்தார். 2. Friends, associates, சினேகர். தீயாரைச்சார்ந்தார்தீயராவார். Those who join with the wicked will become wicked. ஒருவரைச்சார்ந்துபிழைக்க, inf. To live by the aid of another. (c.) சார்ந்துகொள்ள, inf. To lean or recline on. 2. To have recourse to. சார்மணை, s. [loc.] Any thing to lean on or recline against--as cushions, pillows, &c.; [ex மணை.] சார்மானம், s. A thing or person to lean upon, as சாய்மானம். சார்பு, v. noun. and s. Place, இடம். 2. Help, support, patronage, protection, favor, உதவி. 3. Dependence, reliance, பற்று. 4. pāṇālu (p. 309) s. [prov.] An unsuccessful fall in dice-four of the five dice, including a dotted one, being of a kind--oppos. to சேர ணாலு, வீண்தாயம்; [ex பாழ், waste et நாலு.]-The change of ழ் in coalescence with ந, is irregular, but some examples of high authority are found. 19)

mykkm (p. 344) --மயக்கு, s. Mental delusion, stupor, infatuation, stupidity, drowsiness, intoxication; aberration of mind from ignorance, fascination, fainting or other disturbing cause; a besotted state, உன் மத்தம். 2. Confusion in nature--as in the blending of sexes among animals or vegetables, கலப்பு. 3. [in gram.] Combination of letters, coalescence, சையோகம்; also உட னிலைமயக்கம், இடைநிலைமயக்கம். மயக்கமின்மை, v. noun. neg. Absence of delusion, infatuation, intoxication, &c. 2.
