kuḷir (p. 131) -- குளிரு, கிறது, ந்தது, குளிரும், குளிர, v. n. To be cold, chilly, frigid; to be cold to the touch; to be moist, damp, குளிர்கொள்ள. 2. To be cool, to be refreshed, குளிர்ச்சியுற. 3. To be refreshing, gratifying, pleasant, cheering to the touch, sight or hearing; to be engaging, attactive, benignant--as the countenance, இதமாக. 4. To be appeased, consoled, comforted, சாந்தமுற. 5. To die--spoken of death in time of epidemies, when fear of the avenging goddess prevents the use of the proper word, வசூரிமுதலியவியாதியால்மரிக்க. அப்பாவென்றால்உச்சிகுளிருமா. Will merely saying அப்பா afford relief? i. e. not mere words, but actions are necessary. அவன்ஒரு குளிர்ந்தகொள்ளி. He is a coldblodded persons; a man of a fair speech, but an enemy at heart. இப்பொழுதுஎனக்குமனங்குளிர்ந்தது. I am now refreshed, satisfied, gratified, appeased, &c. உச்சிகுளிர்ந்தது. The head has been cooled or refreshed--as on hearing joyful intelligence, &c. எனக்குக்குளிருகின்றது. I feel cold. என்வயிறுகுளிர்ந்ததுபோல உன்மாளிகையுங்குளிர வேண்டும். May you and your family be refreshed as I have been--an expression of thanks for favors received. சரீரமெல்லாங்குளிர்ந்தது. The whole body is refreshed. குளந்தைஅம்மைவார்த்துக்குளிர்ந்துபோயிற்று. The child has died of small-pox. குளிரப்பண்ண--குளிரவைக்க, inf. To cool wines, spirits, &c. 2. To refresh, to satisfy the appetite, the mind, &c.; to regale, to oblige, to appease. கண்குளிரப்பார்த்தான். He feasted his eyes with a gratifying sight. காதுகுளிரக்கேட்டேன். My ears were refreshed by hearing. நிலங்குளிரமழைபெய்தது. It rained abundantly so as to cool the earth. மனங்குளிரக்கொடுத்தேன். I gave him as much as he desired. குளிர்ந்தகிரணம், s. A gratifying light, lustre, &c.--as of the moon, a gem, &c. குளிர்ந்தகுரல், s. A pleasant voice in singing. குளிர்ந்தசரீரம், s. A cool temperament of body. குளிர்ந்தநிழல், s. Refreshing shade. குளிர்ந்தநிறம், s. A gay, cheerful, fine color. குளிர்ந்தநீர், s. cool water. 2. Cooled water after boiling, &c. 3. Good water in gems. குளிர்ந்தபார்வை, s. Engaging, attractive, benignant looks. குளிர்ந்தமுகம், s. Benignant expression of countenance. குளிர்ந்தபூமி, s. A cool climate. குளிர்ந்தபேச்சு--குளிர்ந்தவசனம்--கு ளிர்ந்தவார்த்தை, s. Pleasant, comforting, gratifying language. குளிர்ந்தவாசனை, s. Refreshing odors. குளிர்ந்தமனம், s. A calm, composed mind. 2. A benevolent mind. 3. A pleasant temper, an obliging disposition. குளிர்ந்தபரிமளம், s. A kind of native arsenic, சீதாங்கபாஷாணம். குளிர்ந்துகொல்லி, s. A cold blooded person. குளிர்ந்துகிடக்க--குளிர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become cold--as water after boiling. 2. To die--used auspiciously in time of epidemics. குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. [imp. குளிர்த்தி. vul. குளுத்தி.] Coolness, refrigeration, சீதளம். 2. That which is refreshing, pleasant, gratifying, appeasing; cooling offerings, திருத்திசரம். கண்ணுக்குக்குளிர்ச்சி. Refreshing to the eyes. தெய்வத்துக்குக்குளிர்த்திசெய்தான். He gave cooling fruits to appease the goddess or demon. குளிர்ச்சிப்பண்டம்--குளிர்மைப்பண் டம், s. Any thing that is cooling, refrigerative. குளிர்ச்சியானசாப்பாடு--குளிர்மையான சாப்பாடு, s. Refreshing or cooling kinds of food. குளிர்ச்சியாயிருக்க, inf. To be cool, refreshing to the system. குளிர்ப்பிக்க--குளிர்விக்க, inf. v. a. To cool, to refrigerate; to refresh with water, perfumes, &c.; to gratify the mind, sight, &c., குளிரச்செய்ய. 8)

canti (p. 159) s. A joining, junction, meeting, union, combination, இசைப்பு. 2. The meeting or junction of two or more roads, rivers, &c., or the place of such meeting, சந்திக்குமிடம். 3. The joining of words, and the changes of letters by elision, reduplication, and substitution in the coalescence of words with each other, or in the addition to a word of particles expressing case, or in the formation of derivatives from a primitive, விகுதிமுதலிய வற்றின்புணர்ச்சி. 4. The intervals of morning and evening twilight, especially the latter, regarded as the union of the day and night, மாலைநேரம்; thus அந்திசந்தி, morning and evening. (c.) 5. A period at the expiration of each yuga, connecting it with the following, and occupying 1/12 of each, during which a gradual change takes place in the world, introductory to the peculiarities of the succeeding yuga; also a period of the same length, as the Satya yuga at the end of each Manvantara and of each Kalpa, யுகசந்தி. W. p. 889. SANDHI. 6. Reconciliation, pacification, forming friendship, நட்பாதல். 7. The bamboo, so called from its knots, மூங்கில். 8. The stated worship for each individual, morning and evening, and with some in mid-day, சந்தியாவந்தனம். (p.) 9. Division of time in a day, especially meal time--as ஒருசந்தி, one meal, it being fast-day. (c.) 1. [loc.] Juncture, crisis, a critical point of time, தறுவாய். சந்திகாவலன், s. [prov.] As அந்திகாவ லன், which see. சந்திக்கரை, s. The place where several roads or rivers meet. (c.) சந்திபண்ண--சந்திமுடிக்க, inf. To perform he daily private worship, morning, noon and evening. (p.) சந்திப்பாடு, v. noun. A mishap supposed to be caused by a malignant spirit in a cross way, or other haunted place. சந்திமறிக்க, inf. [loc.] to avert the displeasure of malignant divinities, in time of epidemics, by presenting them cooling offerings at cross roads, and thus to stop their progress into the country. சந்திமிதிக்க, inf. [prov.] To pass across way at an auspicious time, as after recovering from sickness, especially from the small pox, on first going out. சந்திமிதிப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a child to walk the first time on the 6th month in places where two or more ways meet. சந்தியாகாலம், s. The period of evening twilight, மாலைநேரம். 2. The three seasons of stated worship. (See சந்தி.) 3. The interval between one yuga and another, யுகசந்தி; [ex Sa. Sandhya.] W. p. 89. சந்தியாகாலகருமம், s. Evening devotion. (R.) சந்தியாராகம், s. The redness of the sky at sun-set. (R.) சந்தியாவந்தனம்--சந்தியாவந்தனை, s. [prov. சந்திவந்தனை.] Worship at any of the three stated periods; [ex வந்தனை, worship.] சந்தியிலிருக்க, inf. [prov.] To be ruined, to be driven into the street. சந்தியில்வைக்க, inf. To ruin a person, (lit.) to drive him into the streets. சந்திவிக்கிரகம், s. Forming a friendship with enemies to compass their ruin; one of the modes recommended for dealing with enemies. (p.) சந்தியிற்கொண்டுவர, inf. [prov. fig.] To expose a person to ridicule and shame (lit.) to bring to the street. முச்சந்தி, s. The meeting of three roads. நாற்சந்தி, s. The meeting of four roads or streets. சொற்சந்தி, s. One word combining with another in sense. சந்திவழு, s. Impropriety in the use of grammatical sandhi. The three grammatical sandhis as applied to words of Sanscrit origin are, 1. தீர்க்கசந்தி. 2. குண சந்தி. 3. விருத்திசந்தி. To these a fourth, ஆ திவிருத்திசந்தி is added. (நன்.) சந்திகாரியம், s. The removing of a burden--spoken of the marriage of a daughter, or relief from any heavy responsibility. சுமைதூக்கிவிட, inf. As சுமைகட்ட, 2. சுமைமாற்ற, inf. To change the position of a load, for relief. (c.) சுமையடை, s. A pad for the head, சும்மாடு; [ex அடை.] சுமையிறக்க, inf. A lay down a load. 2. To discharge a weighty obligation. 3. To transfer one's responsibilities. சுமையிறக்கி, s. [prov.] As சுமைதாங்கி. சுமையெடுக்க, inf. To take up or carry a load. 2. To engage in a weighty concern. ஆட்சுமை, s. A coolie load. cummāṭu (p. 194) s. [loc. சுமையடை. vul. சிம் மாடு.] A pad for the head in carrying; [ex சுமை, et அடு.] (c.) சும்மாடுகோல, inf. To make the ends of a cloth as a pad for the time. சும்மாட்டுத்தலையன், s. A coolie-man, a porter. (in derision.) 71)

cōṟu (p. 212) s. Boiled rice, சாதம். 2. Apex of the wild pine-apple resembling boiled rice; also a white spongy substance found in the palmyra, wild al&oe; &c, கற்றாழை முதலியவற்றின்சோறு. (c.) 3. The second lunar asterism. See பாணி. சோறுங்கூறையும்கொடுக்க. To give food and raiment. சோற்றாலெடுத்தசுவர். A wall of rice, food, &c., i. e. the body. வயிற்றுச்சோற்றுக்குவேலைசெய்ய. To serve for daily bread. (Low.) இன்றைக்குச்சோற்றுக்கில்லை. Nothing to eat. சோற்றிறக்கமில்லை. The rice will not go down; i. e. he cannot eat. சோறாக்க--சோறுசமைக்க, inf. to boil rice. சோறிட, s. To set rice before one. 2. To board, feed. சோறுகொடுப்பிக்க, inf. To cause a bride to present boiled rice to the bridegroom, as an essential part of the marriage ceremony among some castes. சோறுகொல்லி, appel. n. A glutton, பெருந்தீனிக்காரன். 2. Green vitriol, அன்ன பேதி. சோறுபடைக்க--சோறுபோட, inf. To set rice on plates, leaves, &c., for eating. (c.) சோறுபொங்க, inf. To cook rice. 2. To boil over, bubble up. சோறுபொலிய, inf. [prov.] To swell or enlarge, as rice in boiling. சோறுவடிக்க, inf. To strain off rice. சோறூட்டல், v. noun. The ceremony of first feeding with rice, performed on an auspicious day. See அன்னப்பிராசனம். சோறூற, inf. [prov.] To be too much soaked, as rice in boiling over insufficient fire. சோற்றகப்பை, s. Ladle for rice, in distinction to that for curry. (c.) சோற்றலகு, s. A wicker strainer for boiled rice. (R.) சோற்றாலாத்தி, s. Boiled rice waved before a person, an idol, a married couple, a great person, &c., to remove the supposed fascination of unlucky eyes. (c.) சோற்றுக்கடன்--சோற்றுதவி, s. Duty or obligation to one for support. சோற்றுக்கத்தளை, s. A kind of fish. See கத்தலை. சோற்றுக்களை, s. Languor after eating. 2. Fainting through want of food. சோற்றுக்கற்றாழை, s. See தாழை. சோற்றுக்காரி, s. A woman who prepares food for one who pays her expenses. (c.) சோற்றுக்குடலை, s. [prov.] See குடலை. சோற்றுக்குவீங்கி, appel. n. A man greedy of food, who will eat any where. சோற்றுக்கூடை, s. A large basket in which rice is served up to a company. சோற்றுக்கை, s. The right hand as used in eating rice, &c.--oppos. to பீச்சைக் கை. (c.) சோற்றுக்கொடை, s. Giving boiled rice as alms to religious mendicants, being the first kind of bounty. சோற்றுச்சட்டி, s. An earthen pan for cooling boiled rice. சோற்றுத்துருத்தி, s. The body; (lit.) a leather bag of rice. (p.) 137)

tppu (p. 223) கிறேன், தப்பினேன், வேன், தப்ப, v. a. To beat clothes on a stone, as washermen, சீலைதுவைக்க. 2. To clap a cloth between the hands to clean it, சீலை கசக்க. (c.) 3. [prov.] To knead or mould between the hands, as pastries, mud, &c., அப்பமுதலியதட்ட. 4. nelli (p. 281) s. A class of trees the fruit of which is used for pickles and in medicine. See ஆமலகம்-- Of நெல்லி, there are அருநெல்லி, சிறுநெல்லி, a species of நெல்லி, yielding a sour fruit; கருநெல்லி, the black நெல்லி, the fruit of which is transparent, often used as a figure for the perfect knowledge of a thing; also for the sperm of woman; பெருநெல்லி, a medicinal tree the wood of which improves brackish water; கீழரிநெல்லி, a plant, Phyllanthus simplex; கீழ்காய்நெல்லி, an herb, see கீழ்; நிலநெல்லி, a plant, Phyllanthus Madraspatan. உள்ளங்கைநெல்லிக்கனிபோலே. As clear as the நெல்லி fruit in your hand. நெல்லிக்காயூறுகாய், s. Pickled fruit of the பெருநெல்லி. நெல்லிக்காய்க்கந்தகம், s. Brimstone in pieces like the நெல்லி. Oil boiled with the நெல்லி fruit, as a cooling ointment for the head. நெல்லிக்காய்மணி--நெல்லிக்காய்க்குண் டு, s. Gold beads in the form of the நெல்லி fruit. நெல்லிப்பருப்பு, s. The kernel of the பெருநெல்லி fruit. It is dried and used in medicine; or soaked in cow's milk, is rubbed on the head, as a refrigerative before bathing. நெல்லிப்பூ, s. Flowers of the நெல்லி, forming a drug. நெல்லிமுளி, s. Fruit of the பெருநெ ல்லி dried, used in medicine. 3)

pāl (p. 313) s. Milk, பசுவின் பால்முதலியன. 2. Milky juice in plants, trees and fruits--as the eocoa-nut, மரமுதலியவற்றின்பால். 3. Lymph, matter, fluid in pustules, &c., அம்மைப்பால். 4. (சது.) Whiteness, வெண்மை. [a contraction of Sa. Palana, milk of a cow recently calved.]--Note. In combination the final ல் is changed by rule to ற், sometimes to ன், பாலுக்குங்காவல்பூனைக்குந்தோழன். A guard to the milk, but a friend to the cat. பாலும்வெள்ளைமோரும்வெள்ளை. Milk is white, whey is white--spoken of persons or things apparently similar, but really very different. பால்வார்த்துமுழுகுவான். He will bathe, putting milk on his head (in token of his joy at your death, &c.). பாலடை, s. A shell for a milk-ladle, பாலடைச்சங்கு. [loc.] 2. A shrub, பால டைச்செடி, Hallia sororia. பாலடைய, inf. As பால்கொள்ள. பாலவரை, s. A whitish species of pulse. See அவரை. பாலாடை--பாலேடு, s. Cream of milk. பாலாறு, s. The river Palar. பாலிறங்குதல்--பால்வடிதல், v. noun. Pustule becoming dry. 2. The flowing down of milk. பாலுண்ணி, s. A kind of wart. See உண்ணி. பாலுமறுகுந்தப்பித்தோய, inf. [prov.] To bathe after putting milk and sacrificial grass on the head--as a bride and bridegroom before marriage, before marriage, to obtain progeny. பாலும்பழமும்கொடுக்க, inf. To give milk and plantains as done by a bride and bridegroom to each other, after the marriage ceremony. (c.) பாலுறட்டி, s. [prov.] A kind of pastry, made with cocoa-nut milk. பாலூட்டி, inf. To suckle a child. பாலொலிக்க, inf. [prov.] To keep back milk as a cow for its calf. பால்கட்ட--பால்வைக்க, inf. To innoculate, to vaccinate. பால்குடிக்க, inf. To suck milk as a babe. 2. To take milk. பால்குடிக்கிறகுழந்தை. A child at the breast. பால்குடிமறந்தபிள்ளை, A wanted child. பாலனும்பால்குடியான் Even the suckling ceases to suck--a phrase expressive of fear from oppression. பால்கொள்ள, inf. To form a milky consistence, as in young kernels, or pustules. பால்சுரக்குதல், v. noun. The forming of milk in the breast or udder. பால்சொரிதல், v. noun. Flowing out of milk. See சொரி, v. பால்தெளித்தல், v. noun. A funeral ceremony, See பாற்றெளி. பால்தோய்தல். The curdling of milk, by itself. பால்நண்டு, s. The white crab. See நண்டு. பால்நரம்பு--பானரம்பு, s. Blue veins as they appear in a young mother who is suckling a child. பால்பாய்தல், v. noun. [prov.] Exuding of milky juice from a tapped or wounded tree. பால்பிடிக்க, inf. As பால்கொள்ள. பால்பிடிபதம், s. The stage of grain when they newly formed kernels are of a milky consistency. பால்பிழிய, inf. To press out cocoa-nut milk. பால்பெயர்தல், inf. The forming of milk in the breast or udder. பால்பொழிய, inf. To give milk freely, as cows, &c. 2. (fig.) To be prosperous. பால்மடி, s. An udder teeming with milk. பால்மணம், s. Smell of milk. 2. Smell of rice gruel at a proper stage for taking it from the fire. 3. Milky smell of a sucking child's breath. பால்மரம், s. Any tree with a milky sap. பால்மறக்க, inf. [prov.] A kind of basket used as a cullender for straining milk. பால்வீதிமண்டலம், s. [in astron.] The galaxy or milky way. பால்வெடிபதம், s. A stage in the growth of corn, when, if pressed, milk gushes out. பால்வெள்ளி, s. Pure silver. பால்வைக்க, inf. As பால்கட்ட. பாற்கடல், s. The sea of milk. See கடல். பாற்கடற்பிறந்தாள், appel. n. Lukshmi, as born in பாற்கடல், இலக்குமி. பாற்கடற்றுயில்வோன், appel. n. Vishnu as sleeping in the sea of milk, விஷ்ணு. பாற்கட்டுப்பயிர், s. Grain in the milk. See பயிர். பாற்கலயம், s. A small pot for milking. பாற்கவடி, s. Chowries, very white small shells used in Bengal for money, வெள்ளைப்பலகறை. பாற்காய், s. Unripe fruits which abound in milky juice, பால்பற்றியகாய். பாற்காரன், s. A milk-man. பாற்காரி, s. A woman who sells milk. 2. A wet nurse. பாற்காவடி, s. Milk, carried with ceremony under a canopy to be presented to an idol. This is commonly done at the Palney festivals. See காவடி. பாற்குழந்தை, s. A sucking child. பாற்குழம்பு, s. Milk, thickened from being well boiled. பாற்கெண்டை, s. A fish, as பால்மீன். பாற்கொவ்வை, s. A species of கொவ் வை, with white flower. பாற்சுண்டு, s. Sediment of milk adhering to a vessel by boiling in it from day to day. 2. See சுண்டு. பாற்சுறா, s. A whitish kind of சுறா fish. பாற்சொறி, s. Scabbiness from want of milk. பாற்சோட்டை, s. [prov.] Desire after milk as an infant. பாற்சோறு, s. Boiled rice and milk. பாற்பல், s. Milk-teeth, white teeth. பாற்பள்ளயம், s.
