iṇai (p. 45) s. Union, conjunction, communion, fellowship, இசைவு. 2. Comparison, parallel, similitude, resemblance, ஒப்பு. 3. (p.) Two things of a kind, a pair, couple, brace, துணை. 4. A companion, associate, partner, escort, protector, துணைவன். 5. Desire, இச்சை. 6. Women's hair, கூந்தல். இணையினெஞ்சமே. O! mind, debased beyond comparison. (வைராக்.) இறைகழலிணைமேவியவிமலர். Holy men who unite themselves to the feet of the Supreme Being. இணைக்கயல், s. A couple of carpfish, figures of which in gold, silver, &c., form one of the eight auspicious articles placed on special occasions as good omens, also as pleasing to the gods, அட் டமங்கலத்தொன்று. 2. One of the emblems of royalty, அரசசின்னத்தொன்று. இணைக்கல்லை, s. Two leaf-plates --as set before a religious mendicant or pandarum, while feeding him. இணைக்குப்போக, inf. [prop. இணை யாகப்போக.] To walk with another, to walk abreast. இணைக்குறளாசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of ஆசிரியப்பா, some of whose middle lines are shorter than the first or last line. இணைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting either of the kind of verses called வெண்பா and அகவல், or வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, in hundred verses and composed in accordance with the rule of அந்தாதி--one of the பிரபந்தம். இணைமுரண்டொடை, s. [in poetry.] A kind of ryhme where the first two feet in a line are opposed to each other either in word or meaning, ஓர்தொடை-as சீறடிப்பேரகலல்குல். இணைமோனைத்தொடை, s. A species of rhyme in which the first letters of each of the first two feet are the same. See தொடை. இணையசை, s. A compound metrical syllable, நிரையசை. இணையடி or கழலிணை, s. The two feet. இணையடிசூட, inf. To adorn, crown one's self with the feet (of the deity or guru) regarding them as flowers.--Note. To place the feet of another on one's head, is a figurative form for expressing great reverence, devotedness, respect, &c. இணையளபெடைத்தொடை, s. A verse in which the first letter of the first two feet is protracted. இணையிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To compare one thing with another. இணையியைபுத்தொடை, s. The repetition of the same letter in the last two feet of any line. See தொடை. இணையெதுகைத்தொடை, s. [in poetry.] The rhyming of the second letters of the first two feet in each line. இணையெழுத்து, s. eṭṭu (p. 73) s. The number eight denoted by அ, ஓரெண். 2. The eighth day funeral ceremony when food is presented to the manes of a deceased person, இறந்தஎட்டாம் நாட்சடங்கு; it is often contracted to எண். 3. Desire, ஆசை, impr. for எட்டை. எட்டிலேபத்திலே. Seldom, now and then. எட்டுக்குச்சோறிட்டுவைக்க. [prov.] To set rice, curry and other eatables for the deceased in the eighth day ceremony--as எட்டாந்துக்கங்கொண்டாட. எட்டுமிரண்டுமறியாதவன். A very dolt, an ignoramus. எட்டடிவிரியன், s. A kind of viper. எட்டனுருபு, s. The form of the eighth or vocative case. எட்டிலொன்று, s. One of eight things, one-eighth. எட்டுச்சார், s. [prov.] Two four square houses connected together. எட்டுத்திக்கு--எண்டிசை, s. The eight cardinal points or regions protected by as many supernal regents the supposed guardians of the earth. எட்டெட்டு--எவ்வெட்டு. Eight by eight-eight to each, eight of each. When used adjectively, எட்டு becomes எண்--as எண்ணெட்டு, eight times eight. எண்கணன், s. Brahma the eighteyed, பிரமன். எண்காற்புள், s. [in mythology.] The eight-footed bird. See சரபம், சம்பரம் and சிம்புள். எண்குணம், s. The eight divine attributes. See குணம். எண்குணத்தான்--எண்குணன், s. He who possesses the eight attributes-the perfect one--a term applied in நிகண் டு, to Siva, சிவன், Argha, அருகன். எண்கோணம், s. An octagon, eight-sided figure, அஷ்டகோணம். எண்சாண், s. Eight spans. எண்சாணுடம்பு, s. The human body, eight spans high, each person according to his own span. எண்சாணுடம்புக்குஞ்சிரசேபிரதானம். The head is the chief of the eight span-body; i. e. in cases of difficulty apply to the chief. எண்சிறப்புள்ளோன், s. Argha, அருகன். எண்சுவை, s. The eight poetic expressions of passion. See இரசம். எண்டோளன், s. Siva, சிவன்-the eight shouldered. (p.) எண்டோளி, s. Kali, காளி. 2. Durga, துர்க்கை. (p.) எண்ணாயிரம், s. Eight thousand. எண்ணாயிரவர், s. tāngku (p. 232) கிறேன், தாங்கினேன், வேன், தாங்க, v. n. To bear up, to support, தாபரிக்க. 2. To endure, to sustain, சகிக்க. 3. To press heavily, அழுத்த. 4. To ward off, to avert, விலக்க. 5. To carry, சுமக்க. 6. To maintain, sustain by food, ஆதரிக்க. 7. To protect, to guard, காக்க. 8. To pole a boat, தோணி தள்ள. 9. To treat tenderly. with great kindness as a child or a friend, பராமரிக்க. 1. To solicit cringingly, கெஞ்ச. 11. To press against to strike, to graze a boil so as to cause pain, ஊன்ற. 12. To maintain, to have--as a disposition, சாதிக்க. 13. To tolerate. suffer permit, இடங்கொடுக்க. 14. To wear, to be invested with, தரிக்க. 15. To assist one in rising, in raising or carrying a burden, or climbing a tree, தூக்க. 16. To bear with a light hand, as when beating, ploughing, &c., கைதாங்க. 17. To halt in speaking or walking, நிறுத்த. (c.) இந்தப்போசனம்சீவனத்துக்குத்தாங்காது. This food will not support life. காற்றுக்குத்தாங்காது. It will not bear the wind. என்னாலேஅவ்வளவுகொடுக்கத்தாங்காது. I cannot afford to give so much. அவன்அடிதாங்குவான். He can endure blows. அவனுக்குச்சாப்பாடுகொடுத்துத்தாங்காது. No one can afford to feed him. காலைத்தாங்கித்தாங்கிவைக்கிறது. The animal limps in walking. அவனையேதாங்கிக்கொண்டுதிரிகிறான். He pleases him, to gain his own purpose. அவன்கையைத்தாங்கு. Ward off his hand, his blow, &c. மறுமொழிச்சொல்லித்தாங்காது. There is no end of answering such questions. [prov.] சரீரந்தாங்காது. The constitution will not hear it. தாங்கித்தாங்கிப்பேசுகிறான். He speaks haltingly. மாடுகால்தாங்கித்தாங்கிவைக்கிறது. The bullock hobbles (by pain in the hoof). தாங்கத்தாங்கத்தலையிலேற. To become the more arrogant, the more kindness is shown. 2. To be supercilious on account of humble applications. மலையைமலைதாங்கவேண்டும்மண்ணாங்கட்டிதாங்கு மா. One moutain supports another, can a clod of earth do it? விஞ்சையிற்றாங்கினன் சடையன் வெண்ணெய்யிற் தஞ்சமென்றோர்களைத்தாங்குந்தன்மைபோல். (Nalan) upheld, by charms (the mountain), as Sadaiyan of Truvennainallur supported those who came to him for refuge. (இராமா.) தாங்கமாட்டான். One unable to endure. தாங்குகோல், s. [prov.] A boat-men's pole, தோணிதாங்குகோல். தாங்கிக்கொண்டிருக்க, inf. To bear in mind, to brook. 2. To sustain sickness, adversity, &c. தாங்கிக்கொண்டுபோக, inf. To carry in the arms. 2. To receive and treat very civilly or politely. 3. To escort or conduct, as a lady by the arm. 4. To solicit very urgently. தாங்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To bear. 2. To ward off, to screen, &c. 3. To maintain, to support. 4. To endure, சகிக்க. தாங்கித்தடுக்கிட, inf. To treat very tenderly; (lit.) to bear one up and spread a mat for him. (c.) தாங்கிவெட்ட, inf. To cut or hew lightly. கைதாங்கியடிக்க, inf. To beat or strike lightly. கைதாங்கியுழ, inf. To plough lightly. தாங்கல், v. noun. Bearing, supporting. சுமத்தல். 2. A grievance, விசனப்படுகை. 3. Displeasure, regret, umbrage, மனக் குறை. (c.) அவர்உன்மேலே மெத்தவுந்தாங்கலாயிருக்கிறார். He is much grieved with you. மனத்தாங்கல், v. noun. Want of cordiality. தாங்கல்வருத்துவிக்க, inf. To offend one. தாங்கி, appel. n. A support, prop, defence, ஆதாரம், as கைதாங்கி, சுமைதாங்கி, தீத் தாங்கி, மண்டாங்கி, which see. 2. A ferrule, பூண். 3. The faculties of the body and mind as organs of the soul in the performance of actions, acquisition of ideas, or knowledge. துணைசெய்ய, inf. To help, succor. support. 2. To patronize, promote, subserve. துணைச்சொல்--துணைமொழி, s. A word, address, speech, &c., of support, aid, &c., seconding, supporting a previous speaker, &c. துணைத்தாள், s. Both feet, two feet. துணைநிற்க, inf. To help one in need-as the deity unseen, or a person unexpectedly. துணையிருக்க, inf. To bear and company as the protector of a marriageable girl, that she may not be defiled by demons; of a woman in child-birth; of a new-married couple. &c. துணைவர், s. (plu.) King's ministers. மந்திரிமார். 2. Brothers, friends, near relations, &c.--For the eight classes composing the escort of a king, see எண் வகைத்துணைவர், under எட்டு. துணைவன், s. A husband, தலைவன். 2.
