eṟi (p. 75) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், எறிய, v. a. To throw, cast, fling, eject, discharge, emit, எறிய. 2. To pierce with a weapon, stab, cast so as to strike, குத்த. 3. To reject (as advice), cast off, cast away, throw away, தள்ள. 4. To slap. clap the hands, beat a drum, strike a bell, அறைய. 5. To toss, cast up waves--as the sea, அலை வீச. 6. A dart or lance--as a missile weapon, சவளம். எறிவலையம்--எறிவளையம், s. The discus weapon, சக்கராயுதம். வித்தெறிய, inf. To sow seed. எறி, v. noun. Throwing, a cast, எறிகை. 2. [prov.] A sarcasm, irony, a hint, allusion, insinuation, innuendo, குறிப்பாகச்சொல்லுகை. ஓரெறியெறிந்துவிட்டான். He threw out a hint, an insinuation. அதற்கோரெறியெறிந்துவைக்கவேண்டும். You must give a hint, throw in a word, &c., bearing on the object, take the first step toward it. எறிவு, v. noun. Throwing, casting. எறி, க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To shine brilliantly--as the sun; to emit rays; to glitter as jewels, ஒளிசெய்ய. இழைசுடரெறிந்தலானும். By the brightness of the jewels that blazed around. (நைட.) கதிரெறிக்குநன்மணி. Glittering precious gems. (நைட.) நல்லவெயிலெறிக்கிறது. The sun is burning. மேகம்மின்னெறிப்ப. While the clouds emit lightning-எறிப்பு, v. noun. Shining, brightness, glitter, splendor, பிரகாசம். 2. oḷ (p. 84) adj. Good, excellent, நல்ல. 2. Beautiful, அழகுள்ள. 3. Bright, glittering, luminous, பிரகாசமான. 4. Knowing, அறிவுள்ள. 5. Abundant, மிகுதியான. The ள் of this word is changed into ட் and ண் before appropriate letters, whence the nouns ஒட்பம், and ஒண்மை. ஒள்ளழல்கண்ணிற்கால. His eyes emitting bright sparks of fire through rage-ஒள்வாள், s. Glittering swords, ஒள்ளியவாள். ஒள்ளியர், s. The virtuous, those renowned for subjecting their passions and practising deeds of virtue, according to the shasters, மாசற்றவர். 2. The wise, the intelligent, அறிவுடையோர். (p.) ஒளியார்முன்னொள்ளியராதல். Acting wisely in the presence of the wise. (குறள்.) ஒள்ளியோன், s. He who emits light, ஒளிசெய்வோன். 2. To shine--as the moon; to have moon-light. வாய்காய, inf. To be dry--as the mouth, lips, &c. வாய்வயிறுகாய, inf. To be parched--as the mouth and heated as the stomach; to suffer with hunger. வெயில்காய, inf. To bask in the sun, to warm one's self in the sun. வெயில்காய்கின்றது. Being discolored, blackened, &c., with smoke. புகைப்படலம், s. An expanse or volume of smoke, vapor, tog, cloud. புகைப்பரண், s. A loft over a fireplace for placing things on, that are to be smoked. புகையிலை, s. [vul. பொயிலை.] A leaf of tobacco; (lit.) the smoke-leaf.--The different sorts of tobacco are, வேதாரணி யத்துப்புகையிலை, a superior kind of tobacco cultivated at Vedaranyam; பந்தர்புகையிலை, Bunder tobacco, or that of Masulipatam; காம்புப்புகையிலை, tobacco strung on a line; மேலைமங்கலத்துப்புகையிலை, the best kind from Melaimangalam. புகையிலைகட்டுதல், v. noun. The noise of clouds, or thunder. மேகநாதம், s. Thunder, முழக்கம். 2. Small greens, Amaranthus, சிறுகீரை. (Sa. Meghanada.) மேகநாதன், s. Over-spreading of the clouds. மேகரஞ்சி--மேகவிரஞ்சி, s. A kind of melody, ஓரிராகம். மேகராகக்குறிஞ்சி, s. A melody adapted to a hilly country. மேகவண்ணம்--மேகவர்ணம், s. The color of clouds. மே மேகவண்ணக்குறிஞ்சி, s. A tree, Lawsonia, ஓர்மரம். மேகவண்ணன், s. An epithet of Vishnu from his cloud-like color, விஷ்ணு. மேகவாகனன், appel. n.
