amutam (p. 20) --அமிருதம், s. Ambrosia, nectar, the food of the gods, obtained by churning the sea of milk, தேவருணவு. 2. Sweetness, இனிமை. 3. Milk. பால். 4. Water, நீர். 5. A medicine, a medicament that restores to life, a cordial, ஓர்மருந்து. 6. Final emancipation of the soul or eternal felicity according to Hindu philosophy, முத்தி. 7. The nectarine principle in the head or brain from which the silent, motionless devotee is supposed to obtain nutrition, support and enjoyment, when living without external food. அமுதபுட்பம், s. A creeping plant, சிறுகுறிஞ்சா, Periploca, L. அமுதப்பார்வை, s. A favorable or propitious look. as of a lady towards her admirer, குளிர்ந்தபார்வை. அமதமேந்தல், v. noun. Giving food to ascetics and other virtuous persons, guests, as one of the nine kinds of புண்ணியம், and of the sixteen உபசாரம். அமுதயோகம், s. [in astrology.] The auspicious conjunction of a certain day of the week, phase of the moon and lunar constellation. See யோகம். அமுதர், s. Celestials, வானோர். 2. Herdsmen, இடையர். (p.) அமுதவல்லி, s. A creeper, as சீந்தில். அமுதவெழுத்து, s. Letters deemed propitious and proper to begin a poem, or to be in other important places. kōyil (p. 150) s. [com. கோவில்.] [ex கோ, et இல், abode.] A palace the residence of a nobleman. or a king, அரமனை. 2. A temple, sanctuary, church, chapel, ஆலயம். 3. A sacred shrine, the abode of a deity, கடவு ளிருக்குமிடம். 4. A metal casket enclosing the சிவலிங்கம், or phallic emblem worn about the person, இலிங்கசம்புடம். 5. A bag, &c., for sacred ashes, விபூதிசம்புடம். 6. [loc.] The pagoda at Chillumbrum, or that at Seringham, சிதம்பரசீரங்கஸ்தலம். 7. [prov.] A parish church, also a parish, கோயிற்பற்று. கோயிற்பூனைதேவருக்கஞ்சாது. The cat in the temple dreads no deity; i. e., too close an intimacy destroys veneration. கோயில்மாடுபோலே. Like a temple cow-spoken of indulged or idle young persons who have their own way, &c. கோயில்கொள்ள, inf. To take possession of a temple, a shrine or the heart-as a deity. (p.) கோயில்சுற்றிக்கும்பிட--கோயில்வலம் வர, inf. To pass round a temple to the right hand, out of homage to it. கோயில்சேவிக்க, inf. [loc.] To serve the temple daily--as musicians. கோயில்மணியகாரன், s. The purveyor or manager of a temple--often a hereditary office. Also கோயில்மணியம். கோயில்மாடு, s. Cows or bulls devoted to a temple. கோயில்வரவு--கோயில் வருமானம், s. The revenue of a temple. கோயிற்கணக்கு, s. Temple accounts. 2. [prov.] The parish registry. கோயிற்காணி--கோயில்மானியம், s. Temple lands. கோயில்குளத்துக்குப்போகாதவன். One who is neglectful of religious ceremonies. கோயிற்கிராமம், s. A village and lands belonging to a temple. கோயிற்படி, s. The daily allowance for the expenditure of a temple, of rice, &c., to the idol, Brahman, servants, &c. கோயிற்பற்று, s. [prov.] A parish, or districts belonging to a church. கோயிற்பிரகாரம், s. The court or enclosure of the temple; [ex பிரகாரம், enclosure.]. கோயிற்பிரதிட்டை, s. The conscration of a temple when the deity is supposed to be brought to take up his abode; [in Christian usage.] also the dedication of a church. கோயிற்புராணம், s. One of the five puranas concerning சிதம்பரம். கோயிற்பூனை, s. (fig.) A dissembler in religion. கோயின்மகமை, s. Free offering or gifts to a temple. See மகமை. கோயின்மேரை, s. (also கோயிற்குறுணி.) mṭl (p. 339) s. Any thing flat and long, especially the leaves of the cocoa, palmyra, areka, plantain, screw-pine (தாழை) and wild date, Ph&oe;nix farinifera, ஈந்துமுதலியவற் றின்ஏடு. 2. A stand for sacred ashes. See திருநீற்றுமடல். 3. A poem, figuratively describing a disappointed lover riding on a palmyra-stem, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். 4. Stem of a palmyra branch for the above purpose. 5. Eye-lid, கண்ணிமை. 6. Husk enclosing the ears of maize, சோளக்கதிர்முதலியவற்றின் பொத்தி. 7. A flower-petal, பூவிதழ். 8. The standing pole of a well-sweep, ஏற்றமடல். 9. [prov.] A subsidiary stream or channel forming an angle with the main channel-as சிறுவாய்க்கால். 1. The external border of the ear, காதுமடல். 11. The shoulderblade and upper arm, தோள்மடல். மடலரிதாரம், s. Leaf-orpiment. மடலூர, inf. [in love poetry.] To ride on a palmyra-branch for a horse--as a disappointed lover. மடல்விரிய, inf. [poet. மடலவிழ.] To expand as a pine, or plantain-flowersheath. மடற்பரி--மடன்மா, s. [fig.] A palmyra stem used as a horse. மடற்பனை, s. A rough palmyra-tree difficult to ascend, commonly கங்குப்பனை. 2.
