One of the three நாடி, or passages for the breath--that through the left nostril, the lunar nerve or vessel, திரிநாடி யிலொன்று. 13. One of the (நாடி) nerves or arteries, தசநாடியிலொன்று. (See நாடி.) 14. (misused for எடை) Weight, gravity நிறை. (See சுழிமுனை, and பிங்கலை.) நல்லாரிடைப்புக்கு. Associating with the good. இடைகலை, s. The breath of the left nostril--as சந்திரகலை. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The eleventh lunar asterism, in which Saturn is considered very malignant. See கடையெழுஞ்சனி and முதலெழுஞ் சனி. இடைச்சன், s. The second child, இரண்டாம்பேறு. (c.) இடைச்சாதி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. [com. சரீரசுரணை.] Sense of feeling in the body. சரீரத்திரயம், s. A three-fold enumeration of bodies, as given in the Agama. 1. தூலசரீரம், the gross body which perishes at death. 2. சூக்குமசரீரம், the subtile or ethereal body, or case and immediate organ of the soul, accompanying that through its various transmigrations. It is the embryo or seed of the respective bodies assumed to be, and is, capable of sensations in enjoyment, suffering, &c., beyond those of the grosser body. 3. காரணசரீரம், the original type or embryo of the body, as existing with the soul in its original state. See under காரணம். Another three-fold classification describes bodies as assumed by the soul with its சூக்குமம் adapted to three different states to which it is subject, namely. 1. யாதனாசரீரம், a body adapted to suffering, assigned to the soul for its abode in the infernal regions. 2. பூத னாசரீரம், a body capable of the sensual felicities of சுவர்க்கம், or the abode of Indra. 3. பரிணாமசரீரம், changeable bodies, the bodies of the present state, in which moral actions are performed. சரீரநோய், s. Pains in the body from over exertion, walking, cold, &c. சரீரபுஷ்டி, s. Corpulency. 2. A healthy, thriving state of the body. சரீரப்போக்கு--சரீரப்போங்கு, s. The state of the body; different states of constitution. சரீரமரணம், s. [in Christ. usage.] Death of the body, oppo. to ஆத்துமமரணம், spiritual death. சரீரவதை, s. Mortifying the body by austere penance. சரீரவாகு--சரீரவாக்கு, s. The temperament of the body. சரீரவுபாதி, s. Bodily pain. சரீரவுறவு, s. Consanguinity, oppo. to ஞானவுறவு. (p.) சரீராவச்சின்னவான்மா, s. The individuated soul as it exists in bodies respectively--as distinguished or detached from the universal spirit, சீவான்மா; [ex சரீரம், et அவச்சின்னம், separated.] (சது.) சரீரி, s. A sentient soul, a corporeal being--oppo. to அசரீரி, an immaterial existence. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution, in which the three humors are in equilibrium. தூலீத்தசரிரம், s. A fat or corpulent body. வச்சிரசரீரம், s. An adamantine body, (a form used in benedictions.) See வச்சிரம். 2. Strong and healthy body. கற்சரீரம், s. Stone-like body. See கல். 13) *

cātākkiyam (p. 175) s. The third of the five degrees of development or attainment; in which there is an equilibrium between wisdom and works. See சிவதத்துவம். There are five different kinds. Viz.: 1. சிவசா தாக்கியம். 2. மூர்த்திசாதாக்கியம். 3. அமூர்த்திசா தாக்கியம். 4. கர்த்திருசாதாக்கியம். 5. கன்மசாதாக் கியம், or மலசாதாக்கியம். 15) *

See சுகாதனம். 1. A parrot, கிளி. 11. [a contraction of சூசுகம்.] The orifice of a teat, nipple, முலைக்கண். சு அவனுக்கு மெனக்குஞ் சுகப்படவில்லை. We are not on good terms. [prov.] சுகமாயிரு. I wish you health. சுகமேபோகலாம். You may walk in and see. சுகக்காரன், s. A whoremonger. (R.) சுகங்காட்ட, inf. To present appearances of convalescence. 2. To indulge or humor one, to allure, give one a taste of enjoyments. சுகங்காண, inf. To recover from sickness, in whole or in part, to be convalescent. சுகங்கொடுக்க, inf. To give health, as God in his providence by medicine, &c. சுகசரீரம், s. A healthy constitution in which the three humours are in equilibrium. சுகசரீரி--சுகசீவி, s. A healthy person. சுகசன்னி, s. A fit of apoplexy or tetanus, from unseasonable intercourse. See சன்னி. சுகசெல்வம், s. Health and prosperity, luxury. சுகசெல்வி, s. [mas. சுகசெல்வன்.] A female enjoying the pleasures and luxuries of life. சுகசெய்தி, s. Welfare, state of health, &c., as inquired after. சுகஞ்சுகம், [an auspicious phrase.] Health! health! spoken by a woman in pouring the last water to wash or bathe her child, and sometimes by adults after bathing, &c, மங்கலமொழி. சுகதுக்கம், s. Comforts and troubles, joys and sorrows, as attendant on the present life, or as awarded by the Deity for the actions of former births. சுகதுக்கஞ்சுழல்சக்கரம். Joys and sorrows are a turning wheel. சுகதுக்கி, s. One subject to joy and sorrow, a soul subject to births. (p.) சுகத்தாழ்வு, s. v. noun. Illness, want of sound health. சுகத்துக்குப்போக, inf. To remove one's self to a suitable locality, for enjoying health, to go to a sanitarium. (c.) சுகமாய்ப்போக, inf. To enter any place without molestation, obstruction, &c. 2. To be recovered from any disease. சுகபேதி--சுகவிரேசனம், s. A mild purgative, aperient, laxative, deobstruent. (c.) சுகபோகம், s. Sensual or luxurious enjoyments; sensual delight. சுகபோகி, s. A sensualist, an epicure. சுகபோசனம், s. Wholesome food. சுகப்பட, inf. To recover from disease, to be convalescent. 2. To be convenient, to suit, to be comfortable. சுகப்பேறு, s. [prov.] Safe child-birth after the full period of gestation. சுகவாசி, s. One living comfortably without toil. 2. Fixed or permanent inhabitant. சுகவாசிக்குடிகள், s. See under குடிகள். சுகவார்த்தை, s. A good account of one's health. சுகவாசித்தீர்வை, s. Tribute or tax paid to land-lords. சுகவாசிவாரம், s. The share of produce accruing to the cultivator of the soil. சுகவாழ்க்கை--சுகவாழ்வு, s. Health and prosperity. சுகவிருத்தி, s. Welfare. 2. Intelligence of one's welfare. சுகவீனம், s. Illness, ill-health. 2. Trouble. சுகாதனம்--சுகாசனம், s. An honorable, or a comfortable seat, நல்லாசனம். 2. The fixing of an idol in its place with due ceremony, விக்கிரகஸ்தாபகம். 3. The last division of the third அங்கயோகம், or posture of the silent devotee, for which there is no prescribed form, the person being left to his own choice, அங்கயோகத் தொன்று. 4. Seating one's self properly, இயல்பாகவிருக்கை; [ex ஆதனம்.] (p.) சுகாசுகம், s. Joys and sorrows. See சுகதுக்கம். சுகாதிசயம், s. News of another's welfare. சுகாதீதம், s. The height of enjoyment. 2. Anticipation of eternal happiness; [ex அதீதம்.] சுகானுபவம், s. Anticipation or consciousness of delight, enjoyment, felicity, &c., [ex அனுபவம்.] 15)

cūṭcam (p. 199) s. [prop. சூக்ஷமம்.] Skill, address, dexterity, ingenuity, inventiveness, tact, யூகம். 2. Curiously, as displayed in a piece of workmanship, நூதனம். 3. Device, contrivance, expedient, உபாயம். 4. [a contraction of சூட்சுமம்.] Minuteness, subtility, fineness, நுட்பம். 5. Comprehensiveness, conciseness, சுருக்கம். 6. Artful scheming, dishonest cunning, தந்திரம். (c.) 7. A clue to a subject; a rule in science, சூத்திரம். சூட்சத்திலேமோட்சமா. Is it easy to gain heaven? சுண்ணாம்பிலேயிருக்கிறதுசூட்சம். The principal virtue is in the chunam; (to make the mouth red in chewing betel.) சூட்சத்தில்முடித்துக்கொண்டுவாரும். Have the business done with little cost. சூட்சக்காரன், s. A skilful, ingenious person. 2. A cunning, artful person. சூட்சபுத்தி, s. Great ingenuity, superior invention, genius. சூட்சமாகப்பண்ண, inf. To act, skilfully, display ingenuity, perform extraordinary deeds, to subtilize. 2. To practise stratagems, உபாயம்பண்ண. சூட்சமானவேலை, s. Nice, ingenious, skilful workmanship. சூட்சம்பண்ண, inf. To manage economically. நீசெவலைச்சூட்சம்பண்ணவேண்டும். You must curtail your expenses. சூட்சவழி, s. A short, skilful method in art or science. 2. A good, moral system, நன்னெறி. 3. A short road, சுருக் கவழி. See சுளுவானவழி. சூட்சக்கயிறு, s. The concealed strings of a puppet. சூட்சத்தைத்தட்ட--சூட்சந்தட்ட, inf. To give a tap to the working machine. சூட்சமறிய, inf. To get a clue to a subject, &c. சூட்சமானசெலவு, s. Economical expense. (c.) சூட்சம்போட, inf. To make a contrivance for the equilibrium of a kite in the air. சூட்சம்வைக்க, inf. To make some contrivance in mechanical adjustments, &c. சூட்சமாய்ப்பிழைக்க, inf. To be frugal in domestic expenditure. 2. To live at small expense. (c.) சூட்சமாயிருக்க, inf. To be artful or cunning. 2. To be very little, கொஞ்ச மாயிருக்க. சூட்சவிலை, s. A low price. சூட்சாதிசூட்சம், s. Great contrivance, past human conception--as in the construction of the human frame, &c., minute nicety. (c.) சூட்சானுசூட்சம், s.
