To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். Unkind are they who are forgetful of the situation of their friends. (காரிகையுரை.) மற்றதன்கள்ளங்கடைப்பிடித்தனன்று. The hot sensation of the eyes caused by neglecting to bathe, by disease, &c., கண் ணெரிவு. கண்காரர், s. Persons who sit before a conjurer, looking at the magical paint without winking, and to whom the discoveries are made, அஞ்ச னம்பார்ப்போர். கண்குத்திபாம்பு, s. A bright green snake that is said to strike at the eye, the eye-snake; a whip-snake. கண்குவளை, s. The socket of the eye, கட்குழி. கண்குழிதல், v. noun. Sinking of the eyes by disease, emaciation, &c. கண்குளிரப்பார்க்க, inf. To refresh the eyes by viewing a pleasing object--as a dear child, &c., to feast the eyes. கண்குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. Refreshing, gratifying, pleasing to the sight. கண்குறிப்பு, s. A significant expression of the eye, கண்சமிக்கை. கண்கூச, inf. To see obscurely from the eyes being dazzled. 2. Rolling up of the eyes--as in swoons, fits, death-bed, and sometimes in sleep. கண்ணஞ்ச, inf. To fear, dread, as excited by the sight of a superior, lightning, &c. கண்ணஞ்சனம், s. Blank squares, or balks left between the furrows in cross ploughing, திடரிடைவிட்டுழுமுழவு. கண்ணாடிச்சுவர், s. A small wall to screen the fire in a room. கண்ணாடிபார்க்க, inf. To look into a looking glass. கண்ணாடிப்பலகை, s. A plank with a peeping-hole. கண்ணாடிப்புடவை, s. A thin inferior kind of cloth. முகக்கண்ணாடி, s. A looking glass. மூக்குக்கண்ணாடி, s. Spectacles. தூரதிஷ்டிக்கண்ணாடி, s. Spy-glass, or telescope. சூரியகாந்தக்கண்ணாடி, s. Crystal lens or burning glass. சந்திரகாந்தக்கண்ணாடி, s. A fabulous gem supposed to be formed of the congelation of the rays of the sun. பூதக்கண்ணாடி, s. Microscope. பாலக்கண்ணாடி, s. Spectacles adapted to young eyes. நிலைக்கண்ணாடி, s. A standing looking glass, a stationary mirror. கண்ணாமண்டை, s. [prop. கண்மண் டை.] s. The skull near the eyes. கண்ணாம்பூச்சி, s. [com.] Covering the eyes with the hands or doubling the upper eyelid over the eyeball inside out, and running round as children in play, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. 2. Giddiness, dizziness, கண்மயக்கம். கண்ணாம்பூச்சியாட, inf. To run about in play with the eyes covered, or with the eyelid doubled over. கண்ணாம்பொத்தி, s. [prop. கண் பொத்தி.] A game, children's play, hideand-seek. கண்பொத்திவிளையாட, inf. To play at hide-and-seek. கண்ணாயிரம், s. The argus of the Hindus. கண்ணாயிருக்க, inf. To be watchful, vigilant, attentive, looking steadfastly, நோக்கமாயிருக்க. கண்ணுக்குக்கண்ணாயிருக்கிறான். He is as dear or precious as one's eyes. கண்ணாரக்காண, inf. To see plainly, to see with one's own eyes, பிரத்தியட் சமாகக்காண. கண்ணிடுக்குதல், v. noun. Being sleepy, drowsy. கண்ணிதழ்--கண்ணிமை, s. Eyelid, கண்ணினதிமை. 2. A wink of the eye, கண்ணிமைப்பு. See இமை. கண்ணிமைக்க, inf. To wink. கண்ணிலி, s. A blind person, குரு டன். 2. (p.) Dhritarashtra, திரிதராட் டிரன். கண்ணிலேபூப்பட, inf. To have specks in the black of the eye. கண்ணிலொற்ற, inf. To apply a fomentation, a flower, &c., to the eye. கண்ணீர், s. Tears. ஏழைஅழுதகண்ணீர்கூரியவாளுக்கொக்கும். The tears of the poor are like a sharp sword. கண்ணீராக்கி, s. Crude camphor, பச்சைக்கருப்பூரம். கண்ணீருகுக்க--கண்ணீர்சொரிய --கண்ணீர்வடிக்க--கண்ணீர்விட, inf. To shed tears, கண்ணீர்சிந்த. கண்ணீர்ததும்ப--தளம்ப, inf. To have the eyes suffused with tears. கண்ணுக்கரசன், s. Blue vitriol, து ருசி. கண்ணுக்கினியான், s. The பொன் னாங்காணி plant. 2. The கரிசலாங்கண்ணி plant, lit. one pleasing to the eye. கண்ணுக்குக்கண்ணானவன், s. A person dear to one as his own eyes. கண்ணுக்குத்தைக்க, inf. To attract the eyes, to arrest the attention. கண்ணுதல், s. Siva, whose forehead contains an eye, the frontal-eyed, சிவன். (p.) கண்ணுதலோன்வெற்பு, s. The same as இரசதமலை. கண்ணுராவி, s. A pitiable sight, a miserable condition deserving commiseration. கண்ணுலைமூடி, s. A rice-strainer. கண்ணுற, inf. To see, view, காண. 2. To reach, arrive at, இடத்தைச்சேர. கண்ணுறக்கம், s. Sleep, a nap, நித் திரை. கண்ணுறங்க, inf. To sleep, நித்தி ரைசெய்ய. கண்ணுறுத்த, inf. To smart as the eyes, from any foreign substance--as dust, ophthalmia, &c., கண்ணிலுறுத்த. என்கண்ணையுறுத்துகின்றது. Something hurts my eye. 2. My eye smarts from ophthalmia. கண்ணூறு--கண்ணேறு, s. The blight of the eyes, an unlucky look supposed to cause sickness, &c., திட்டி தோஷம். விண்ணேறுதப்பினாலுங்கண்ணேறுதப்பாது. One may escape a thunderbolt, but to escape an evil eye is impossible. மதன்கண்ணேறெய்தலுங்கழிந்ததோ. (Has the waist) become so attenuated through the influence of kama's eyes? கண்ணூறுகழிக்க, inf. To dispel the blight of an evil eye by prescribed ceremonies. கண்ணூறுபட, inf. To suffer or experience the ill effects of evil eyes. கண்ணெச்சில், s. Fascinating, bewitching, blighting, &c.--as by a glance, and otherwise, as in food looked on with an envious eye, &c., கண்ணூறு. கருப்புரவிளக்கமேந்திக்கண்ணெச்சில்கழித்திட் டாரே. They waved the lighted camphor and removed the blight of the eye. (நைட.) கண்ணெரிவு, v. noun. Smarting of the eyes from want of sleep or through intemperance. கண்ணெறிய, inf. To glance, க ண்ணாற்பார்க்க. 2. To cast libidinous glances, to look wistfully, விருப்பமாகப்பார்க்க. கண்ணேணி, s. A bamboo ladder, மூங்கிலேணி. கண்ணேறிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To look intently or steadily on an object. 2. To look up straight forward, ஏறெடுத் துப்பார்க்க. கண்ணைக்காட்ட, inf. To indicate wishes by a glance. கண்ணைப்பிடுங்க, inf. To pluck out the eye. கண்ணைமூடிக்கொண்டிருக்க--கண் மூடிக்கொண்டிருக்க inf. To connive at. 2. To be indifferent about, to be careless. என்னைப்பாராமற்கண்மூடிக்கொண்டார். He does not look at me, he has closed his eyes on me. கண்ணொட்ட, inf. To be sleepy. எனக்குக்கண்ணொட்டிக்கொண்டுவருகிறது. I am sleepy. கண்ணொளி, s. The brightness of the eye, the light of the eyes, கண்ணிலிரு க்குமொளி. கண்ணோ--கண்ணோக்காடு--கண் ணோய்--கண்ணோவு--கண்வலி, s. Sore eyes, ophthalmia. கண்ணோக்க, inf. To look intently, gaze, to eye, see, look upon, பார்க்க. கண்ணோக்கு, v. noun. Gaze, glance, கண்பார்வை. கண்ணோட, inf. To run out--as the sight on an object of desire, to look at with desire, cast wistful or lustful glances, விருப்பமாகப்பார்க்க. 2. To watch, look after, inspect, superintend, பார்வை யிட. 3. To examine cursorily--as a book, writing, &c., மேலெழுச்சியாய்ப்பார்க்க. 4. To be kind, benignant, gracious, to treat kindly, be indulgent, தயவாயிருக்க. 5. To be partial, to have the mind biased toward one, to yield to feelings of compassion, தாட்சிணியஞ்செய்ய.--Note. All the meanings have reference to sight as prompting to passion and action. உடையவன்கண்ணோடாப்பயிர், s. Growing corn not looked after by the owner. கண்ணோட்டம், s. A glance, a look, the scope of the sight, கடைக்கண்பா ர்வை. 2. Regard to persons, either in a good or bad sense, kindness as prompted at the moment, partiality, favoritism, glow of kind feelings toward a friend, reluctance to deny his request, &c., கடாட்சம். 3. Civility, complaisance, regard, மரியாதை. 4. Discerning by the eye, close examination, scrutiny, பார்வை யிடுகை. இவனவனிடத்திற்கண்ணோட்டம்வைத்தான். He was very kind to him. கண்திட்டம்--கண்மதிப்பு, s. Guess by the eye, or opinion from sight. கண்திட்டி--கண்திஷ்டி--கண்தீமை, s. The blight of the eye, திட்டிதோஷம். கண்திட்டிகழிக்க, inf. An eye-lid. கண்பரிகாரம், s. Doctoring the eyes, the profession of an oculist, கண்வை த்தியம். கண்பரிகாரி, s. An oculist, கண் வைத்தியன். கண்பாடு, s. Sleep, நித்திரை. (p.) கண்பாய்ச்சல், v. noun. A glance. கண்பார்க்க, inf. To examine precious stones, elephants, horses, &c., for sale, பரீட்சிக்க. 2. To cast a benignant look on one, கடாட்சிக்க. 3. To pity or compassionate, இரங்க. கண்பிடி, s. [prov.] A small jackfruit or a small bunch of palmyra or other fruit attached to a larger one. கண்புகைச்சல், v. noun. A disease of the eye. ஓர்நோய். 2. Dimness of sight from age, disease, கண்மங்கல். கண்புதைக்க. inf. To cover the eyes, to hoodwink, கண்பொத்த. (p.) 2. To weaken or prevent the sight--as dust, &c. கண்பூத்தல், v. noun. Failing--as the eyes by earnest looking, கண்மயங்கல். கண்பொங்க, inf. To form--as rheum in the eyes, குட்டினாற்கண்பொங்க. கண்பொத்த, inf. To stop the eyes with the fingers, to hoodwink, blindfold, கண்மூட. கண்பொத்திவிளையாட, inf. To play at hide-and-seek, to play at blindman's-buff, விழிமூடியாட. கண்பொறிதட்ட, inf. To flash --as the eyes in fainting, by a blow, &c., கண்கூச. 2. To be over-powered--as the sight by vivid lightning, brilliant gems, &c., கண்மழுங்க. கண்பொன்ற, inf. To have the sight diminished, dimmed by age, disease in the eyes, long application, கண் கெட. 2. [vul.] To be blear-eyed, கண் செம்ம. கண்போட, inf. To look on objects wistfully with an intention of securing them, to fall in love, இச்சிக்க. கண்மங்க, inf. To become dull, obscure, heavy--said of the eyes, கண் ணொளிகுறைய. கண்மடை, s. Inferior channels for water--as in gardens, சிறுமடை. கண்மட்டம்--கண்மட்டு--கண்ம திப்பு--கண்மதியம், s. Guess by the eyeas appears to the sight; done, wrought, leveled, &c., by sight. கண்மட்டவேலை, s. Work executed by the eye without the aid of a measure or model. கண்மணி--கண்விழி, s. The apple of the eye, கருமணி. என்கண்மணியே. My darling, lit. thou who art the apple of my eye. கண்மண்டை, s. The skull near the eyes. கண்மயக்கு, s. Fascination of the eyes, bewitching, captivating, கண்ணினா ல்மயக்குமயக்கு. கண்மயிர், s. The eye-lashes. கண்மருட்சி, s. The dazzling of the eye. கண்மருட்டு, s. Fascinating with the eye, கண்ணினாற்செய்யுமருட்டு. கண்மருந்து, s. Medicine for the eyes. 2. A collyrium for ornamenting the eyelids of females. கண்மலர், s. An ornament for the eyes of an idol, a gold or silver ornament to be placed over the eye of an idol and devoted to the temple, விக்கிரகங்க ட்கணியும்விழிமலர். கண்மறிக்காட்டல், v. noun. [prov.] Checking, forbidding, frowning on, or inviting by a signal of the eye. கண்மாயம், s. Ocular deception, illusion, sudden appearance and disappearance--as of a phantom, a thing stolen, &c., கண்ணுக்குத்தோன்றிமறைகை. கண்மின்ன, inf. To flash--as the eyes on fainting or by a blow. கண்மின்னியார்த்தல், v. noun. Growing dim as the eyes when one is dizzy. கண்முகிழ்க்க--கண்மூட, inf. To shut the eyes, cover the eyes, to hoodwink, கண்ணிமைசேர்க்க. 2. To become drowsy, go to sleep, தூங்க. 3. To die, சாவ. 4. To be careless, indifferent, unconcerned at any thing, கவலையில்லா திருக்க. கண்மூடிவிழிக்குமுன்னம். In less than a wink. ஒருகண்மூடியொருகண்விழிக்கிறவன். He who is partial, biased. என்னைப்பாராமற்கண்மூடிக்கொண்டான். He does not look at me, he has closed his eyes on me. கண்மை, s. A collyrium for the eyelids, கண்ணுக்கிடுமை. 2. A kind of benignant look, கண்ணோட்டம். கண்வரி, s. Streaks, especially red, in the white of the eye. கண்வளர, inf. To go to sleep, to sleep, நித்திரைசெய்ய. கண்விட, inf. To break--as the eye of a needle, the rivet hole of a knife, ஊசிமுதலியவற்றின்கண்ணொடிய. 2. To form as butter in churning, வெண்ணெய் திரள. கண்விடுக்க, inf. To paint the black of the eyes in a picture, சித்திரப்பா வைக்குக்கண்வரைய. 2. To open the eyes of an idol giving it the appearance of sight, விக்கிரகத்துக்குக்கண்திறக்க. (சிந்தாமணி.) Seeing clearly, having the sight restored after disease of the eyes or dimness. கண்வைக்க, inf. To be benignant, gracious, kind, &c., toward one, கிருபை வைக்க. 2. To look wistfully upon a thing, to desire, look at lustfully, விருப்பம் வைக்க. 3. To form as a hole in an ulcer, புண்ணிற்கண்வைக்க. அவளவன்மேற்கண்வைத்தாள். She cast her eyes upon him. வாக்குக்கண்--மாறுகண், s. A squint eye. மயிற்றோகைக்கண், s. The spangles in a peacock's tail. கடைக்கண், s. The corner of the eyes. கடைக்கண்பார்வை, s. A sideglance. 2. Regard, favor, condescension. சல்லடைக்கண், s. The holes of a sieve or strainer. ஓரக்கண், s. As வாக்குக்கண். ஓரக்கண்ணன், s. One who is squint-eyed. பருக்கண், s. The orifice of a boil. உடலக்கண்ணன், s. A disease of the eye which causes the sight to fail in the dark. வலைக்கண், s. The meshes of a net. ஊற்றுக்கண், s. The orifice of a spring. பறைக்கண், s. The end of a drum. கொடுங்கண்--தறுகண்--வன்கண், s. Envy, invidiousness. ஆயிரங்கண்ணன், s. Indra who has a thousand eyes. (p.) கூசுகண், s. As சூகைக்கண். விரிகண், s. A sore in the eyelids which causes them to dilate. அவிகண், s. A variety of sore eyes. இழிகண், s. A disease of the eye which causes the eyelids to hang down. அழுகண், s. A complaint in the eye which causes a continual dropping of tears. சொறிகண், s. An itching complaint in the eyelids. சிம்புறுகண், s. kuṟṟm (p. 132) s. Fault; moral or physical imperfection, blemish, defect, deformity. பி ழை. 2. Crime, misdemeanor, guilt, தீங்கு. 3. Impurity; ceremonial or moral defilement--as cause of offence to the deity, of blight to plants, &c., சூதகம். 4. Reproach, stigma, charge, accusation, blame, குறை. 5. Amercement, mulct, fine, அபராதம். 6. (சது.) Sickness, நோய். முக்குற்றம், s. The three kinds of evil, incident to the soul in connexion with births, as darkening the understanding and leading to sin. 1. காமம், sexual desire, lust. 2. வெகுளி, anger. 3. மயக்கம், bewilderment, mental illusion. யாக்கைக்குற்றம், s. The five defects of the body; 1. கொட்டாவி, yawning. 2. நெட்டை, snapping the joints. 3. குறுகு றுப்பு, snoring. 4. கூன்கிடை, lying shrunk up. 5. நட்டுவிழல், nodding. அஷ்டகுற்றம், s. The eight imperfections of creatures. 1. ஞானாவரணியம், ignorance, or want of wisdom. 2. தரி சனாவரணியம், defective perception. 3. வேதநீயம், comprehensibleness. 4. மோக நீயம். subjection to the passions. 5. ஆயு, age, limited duration. 6. நாமம், having a name or describableness. 7. கோத்திரம், parentage, descent. 8. அந்தராயம். liability to impediments and accidents. The opposite of these are peculiar to the deity. See எண்குணம் under குணம். நூற்குற்றம், s. The ten faults or defects in a literary composition. 1. குன்றக்கூறல், a partial statement--saying too little. 2. மிகைபடக்கூறல், redundancy-saying too much. 3. கூறியதுகூறல், tautology--repetition. 4. மாறுகொளக்கூறல், inconsistency--contradictory statements. 5. வழூஉச்சொற்புணர்த்தல், the employment of improper or inappropriate words and terms. 6. மயங்கவைத்தல், obscurity, mystification. 7. வெற்றெனத்தொடுத்தல், emptiness, barrenness. 8.மற்றொன்றுவிரித்தல், digression--introducing another subject. 9. சென்றுதேய்ந்திறுதல், gradual loss of vigor and tone. 1. நின்றுபயனின்மை, useless statements; verbosity; bombast. இமைக்குற்றங் கண்ணுக்குத்தெரியாது. The eye does not see the defect of the eyelashes; i. e. one's own errors, and those of his family and friends, are unnoticed. குற்றங்கடிய, inf. To avoid guilt. குற்றங்களைய, inf. To free from errors. குற்றங்காட்ட, inf. To expose faults. குற்றங்காண, inf. To find fault. 2. To blame, to be blameable, &c. குற்றஞ்சாட்ட--குற்றஞ்சுமத்த--குற் றப்படுத்த--குற்றமேற்ற, inf. To conviet, charge with a fault or crime; to accuse. அவன்மேற்குற்றஞ்சுமத்து. He has been found guilty. குற்றஞ்சாராதவன், s. An innocent man. குற்றஞ்செய்ய--குற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To commit a fault; to perpetrate a crime; to do wrong, &c. குற்றஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To accuse, criminate, blame, censure, charge with fault; to impeach. 2. To object, gainsay. 3. To criticize; to be hypercritical, censorious, captious; to expose faults. குற்றத்தைமறைக்க, inf. To deny a crime; to hide a fault. குற்றந்தீர்க்க--குற்றம்பரிகரிக்க, inf. To correct faults, to free from faults; to expurgate, exculpate, absolve. குற்றந்தெரிக்க, inf. To exhibit faults; to criticize, to sift--as a literary production. குற்றப்பட, inf. To be in fault; to be found guilty, criminal, blameable. குற்றப்பாடு, v. noun. The state of being in fault; accusation, imputation. குற்றம்பார்க்க--குற்றம்பிடிக்க, inf. To find fault, to be censorious. குற்றம்பார்க்கிற்சுற்றமில்லை. Censoriousness destroys friendship. குற்றமில்லான்--குற்றங்களில்லான், s. Argha--as an immaculate being, அருகன். 2.
