kumpi (p. 123) s. Mud, mire; a slough, சேறு. 2. Heated ashes, or ashes in fire for baking, &c., சுடுசாம்பல். 3. The belly, paunch, pot-belly, வயிறு. 4. A heap, குவியல். கும்பிக்கிரைதேடியலையல். Taking great pains in search of food for the belly. ஒருசாண்கும்பிக்குப்பாடுபடுகிறான், inf. He is toiling for the belly, which is but one span long. அடுப்புக்கும்பி, s. The heaten ashes of the oven. கும்பிடுசட்டி, s. [prov. கும்பியிடுசட்டி.] A gold-smith's vessel in which he keeps fire. 2. A pot which fire is kept for warming in cold weather; a chafer, கண ப்புச்சட்டி. 36) *

kuṟṭu (p. 132) s. Pincers, tongs, forceps, &c., கம்மியர் குறடு. 2. A small block or clump of wood, மரத்துண்டு. 3. A raised floor or verandah, திண்ணை. 4. The edge of a verandah floor, திண்ணைக்குறடு. 5. (சது.) Plank, board, பலகை. 6. A hook for hanging up school-boys' books, புத்தகத்தூக்குக்கயிற்றுக்குறடு. 7. A crab, நண்டு. (M. Dic.) 8. The jutting out or cornice on a wall or column, புடைப்பு. (Rott.); [ex குறு. short or small.] குறட்டாலிடுக்க, inf. To grasp or take up with a pair of pincers. குறடுகாய்ச்சிப்பிடுங்க--குறடுவைத்துப் பிடுங்க, inf. To pinch any one with redhot pincers. சிறுகுறடு, s. A gold-smith's pincers. குறட்டுப்பாக்குவெட்டி, s. Betel-nutcrackers with a forked mouth. குறடுகட்ட, inf. To make the edges of the raised floor of the verandah. திண்ணைக்குறடு, s. A lower part of a verandah to sit on. சந்தனக்குறடு, s. blocks of sandal wood. பாதகுறடு, s. Wooden sandals. 2. Shoes, slippers. குறட்டுச்செருப்பு, s. [prov.] A kind of shoe or sandal, with a loop to admit the great toe. குறட்டுவாதம், s. A kind of spasm, ஓர்வலிப்பு. See குறண்டல்வாதம். 6)

pṭṭṭai (p. 291) s. A stock, heap; pile of straw, firewood or timber, குவியல். 2. The anvil of a black-smith, gold-smith, &c., அடைகல். 3. A black-smith's or other vise, அடைகுறடு. 4. A mechanic's shop with its various implements, கம்மியர்கராக சாலையும், கருவியும். 5. Any thing held against another, as a support in driving a nail, தாங்குகருவி. 6. A corn-rick, or enclosure of straw, &c., for grain, தானியஉறை. 7. A layer or bed of olas, to place things on, தானியப்படுக்கை. 8. A frame of timbers to place under a dhoney when ashore, to keep it from the ground, தோணிதாங்கி. 9. A support for the head, in place of a pillow, தலைதாங்கி. 1. A support, or prop to keep a thing from falling or moving, தாபரம். 11. An ornament for the neck, கழுத்தணி. 12. A piece of board temporarily used as a seat, தாங்குபலகை. பட்டடைவாய்த்தால்பணிவாய்க்கும். If the anvil be obtained, the work will be done. பட்டடைகட்ட, inf. To store up grain in an enclosure of straw. 2. To set a prop or support. 3. To erect a workshop. 4. To steal. பட்டடைகாக்க, inf. To watch the cornstack. பட்டடைக்கழனி, s. A cultivated field. பட்டடைக்குத்தண்ணீர் இறைக்க, inf. To raise water for irrigation. பட்டடைமணை, s. A work-bench. பட்டடையார், s. [hon.] The master of a shop. 2. An overseer. பலபட்டடை, s. [com. பலபட்டறை.] The residence of people of several tribes. See சாதி. 122) *
