அலாதா
alātā (p. 28) --அலாது, s. (Hin.) That which is separate, distinct, unconnected, alone, வேறு. 2. That which is unemployed, at liberty, at leisure, தொழிற்படாதது. 22) *
உலாவு
ulāvu (p. 66) கிறேன், உலாவினேன், வேன், உலாவ, v. n. To move about, walk or ride for recreation, exercise, &c., to pass to and fro, walk at leisure, take a jaunt, an excursion, a stroll, a ramble, சாரிபோக. 2. To go in procession, to parade the streets--as festal processions, ஊர்வலம்வர. உலாயதுகலாபமஞ்ஞை. The long tailed peacock gently moved along. காருலாவுசோலை. A forest of trees so lofty that the passing clouds move in their tops. நின்கோலுலாவுநிலத்து. In the country over which thy sceptre is wielded-- (தண்டி.) திரைசென்றுலாஞ்சேர்ப்ப. O! ruler of the coasts on which the waves sport. (உலரம் for உலாவும்.) காதளவுசென்றுலாவுங்கண். An eye that looks every where, (lit.) the eye that passes to the ear. உலாவித்திரிய, inf. To walk about idly, or at leisure. உலா, v. noun. Procession, moving about for recreation or exercise, a ramble, a jaunt, an excursion, a stroll, an airing, சாரிவருதல். 2. A species of poem in the நேரிசைக்கலிவெண்பா, in which the praises of a hero are sung by women of the seven different ages, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். உலாப்போதல், v. noun. Rambling, strolling, taking an excursion, a jaunt. 17)
சமயம்
camayam (p. 162) s. A convenient, suitable or proper time; leisure, convenience, opportunity, தருணம். 2. Time, season, occasion, juncture of time; emergency, extremity, காலம். 3. Any religious persuasion, faith or system, மார்க்கம். (c.) W. p. 894. SAMAYA. --Note.. There are twelve principal religious systems, of which six are approved and six rejected by the Saiva sect. 1. உட் சமையம், or the six systems considered orthodox by the Saivas are. 1. வைரவம், making Bhairava supreme. 2. வாமம், regarding the female principle in nature, as the primeval form of deity, and teaching the worship of the generative female organ. 3. காளாமுகம், similar to the வாமம். 4. மாவிரதம், teaching that the deity is a pure spirit. 5. பாசுபதம், similar to மாவிரதம். 6. சைவம், Saivism, which teaches that the deity is both spirit and matter; assuming forms for accomplishing his purposes. II. புறச்சமயம், or the six heterodox systems; viz.:-- 1. உலகாயதம். A species of Atheism regarding sensual gratifications as the chief good, as taught by the atheistical school of Charvaka. 2. புத் தம். Bhuddism, which rejects the notion of a Supreme being, maintains that all material existences proceed from a fortuitous combination of the four primitive elements, (earth, water, fire, and air,) and that mental phenomena are the mere results of organization. It regards Bhudd as a deified teacher and object of worship. 3. சமணம். The Jaina system which is a modification of Bhuddism, and regards Argha as the deified preceptor and object of worship. 4. மீமாஞ்சை. A system that regards Brahm as the soul of the universe. 5. பாஞ்சாரத்திரம். A system taught by Vishnu, during five successive nights. 6. பாட்டாசாரியம். The system of Battacharya whose followers regard the Vedas as god, and consider that virtuous actions of themselves result in felicity. III. Other systems derived from these twelve or in some respects similar to them are very numerous, some of them are கபாலம், சவுத்திராந்திகம், யோகசாரணம், ஆத்துமிகம், வைபாடிகம், நிகண்டவா தம், நையாயிகம், வைசேஷிகம், பதஞ்சலியம், சாங்கியம், சித்தாந்தம், வேதாந்தம், &c. The six orthodox systems among the Vaishnuvas are 1. யாதவம், that of Yádava Misra. 2. மாயாவாதம், that by Sankarachárya. 3. இரணியகர்ப்பம், that by Hiranyagarbha. 4. இராமானுசீயம், that by Rámánuja. 5. பாஸ்கரம், that by Bhaskara. 6. தத்துவவாதம், that by Mádhavácharya. சமயகருமம், s. Rites and duties of religion, மார்க்காசாரம். சமயகாரியம், s. Questions, matters, &c., of theology; religious concerns, subjects, &c. சமயக்கட்டு, s. Religious obligation. See கட்டு. சமயக்கொள்கை--சமயக்கோட்பாடு, s. Religious opinions, tenets, &c. சமயசாத்திரம், s. The theology of a sect. 2. Religious writings or shastras. சமயதீட்சை, s. The ceremony of initiating a disciple in the mantras, &c., peculiar to the sect. See தீட்சை. சமயத்தார், s. The followers of a religious system. சமயங்கடக்க, inf. To transcend all religions--as the supreme being. (p.) சமயநிந்தை, s. Scoffing at religion, profaneness, blasphemy, &c. சமயநிலை, s. The commands, tenets of a religion. 2. Religion as observed, believed, practised, &c., by its professors. சமயநூல், s. The religious writings of a sect. சமயப்பற்று, v. noun. Attachment to a religion. சமயபத்தி, s. Religious devotedness to a creed. சமயபேதம், s. Heresy, heterodoxy. 2. Diversity of religions. 3. Schism. 4. (c.) Unseasonableness. சமயபேதி, s. A heretic. 2. Schismatic. 3. One of another religion. சமயப்போலி, s. A spurious system of religion. (p.) சமயப்போக்கு, v. noun. The substance, scope, &c., of a religion. (Little used.) சமயமதம், s. Bigotry, enthusiasm, conceit in religion. சமயமதங்கொண்டாட, inf. To be enthusiastic, to act the bigot. சமயமானம், s. A natural regard to one's own religion. (c.) 2. (Rott.) Constancy or firmness in a religion. சந்நியாசிக்குஞ் சாதிமானஞ் சமயமானம்விடாது.... The ascetic who has relinquished every thing will not relinquish his caste or sect. சமயவாதம், s. Religious controversy. சமயவாதி, s. A disputant for religion. 2. A professor of religion. சமயாசாரம், s. The rites and ceremonies, of a religion according to a prescribed institute. 2. Religious practice, observance of rites. (c.) சமயாதீதன், s. The supreme Being-as transcending all religions, சமயங்கடந்த கடவுள். (p.) சமயி, s. [com. சமயத்தான்.] A religionist, a sectarian, the follower of any religion, sect, &c., a sectary. (p.) சமயமாயிருக்கையில், [adverbially.] At a particular juncture, in an emergency. சமயங்கடத்த, inf. [prov.] To while away time, to loiter. சமயங்கிடைக்க, inf. To obtain an opportunity. (c.) சமயங்கெட்டவேளை, s. An unseasonable time. (Limited usage.) சமயத்துக்குதவ, inf. To help in an emergency. சமயம்பார்க்க--சமயந்தேட, inf. To watch an opportunity. சமயாசமயம், s. Urgent or pressing occasion, unfavorable opportunity. (c.) தற்சமயம், s. The very juncture or moment. 2. A special opportunity. நற்சமயம், s. A good opportunity. சமயந்தப்பிவந்தான். He came unseasonably. சமயத்திலே கையைவிரித்தான். He refrained from helping in time of need. 2) *
சாவகாசம்
cāvakācam (p. 180) s. Time, leisure, opportunity, convenience, சமயம். 2. Slowness, procrastination, விரைவின்மை; [ex ச et அவகா சம், leisure.] (c.) சாவகாசம்பார்த்துப்போ. Watch a convenient opportunity, and go. சாவகாசப்படவில்லை. It was not convenient. சாவகாசத்திலேசெய். Do it at your leisure. 27)
சும்மா
cummā (p. 194) adv. Leisurely, uselessly, lazily, idly, தொழிற்படாமையாய். 2. Separately, வா ளா. 3. Gratuitously, இலவசமாய். 4. Jocosely, &c., பொருணோக்கின்றி. 5. Silently, taciturnly, மௌனமாய். 6. Freely, unhesitatingly, unceremoniously, உபசாரமின்றி. 7. Causelessly, vaguely, unintentionally, முகாந்தரமி ன்றி. 8. Merely, simply, இயல்பாய். 8. Over and above; continuously, repeatedly, ஒழி வின்றி. இப்போது நான்சும்மப இருக்கிறேன். I am at present without any employment. சும்மாகிடைக்குமாசோணாசலன்பாதம். Can the feet of the High be approached without pains? சத்தியம்பண்ணிச்சொன்னானோசும்மாசொன்னானோ. Did he speak on oath, or vaguely? சும்மாகிட. Hold your peace. சும்மாவந்தேன். I came having no particular business. போய்ச்சும்மாவந்தான். He went and returned without success. சும்மாவருகிறான். He comes here very often. அவனைச்சும்மாவிடுவேனா. Will I let him go unpunished? அவனைச்சும்மாவிடு. Let him alone. சும்மாசொல்லு. Tell it without fear. சும்மாவாயைத்திற. Just open your mouth. சும்மாகொடுக்க--சும்மாதர, inf. To give gratis. சும்மாசொல்ல, inf. To say a thing for pastime, to speak in jest. சும்மாஇருக்க, inf. To be at leisure, be idle. 2. To be still, to leave off. 70)
செல்லம்
cellm (p. 205) s. (a change of செல்வம்.) Felicity, opulence, prosperity, ஐசுவரியம். 2. Amusement, pastime. வினோதம். 3. Soft prattling as of a female, a child, &c., மழலை ப்பேச்சு. (c.) செல்லஞ்செருக்குகிறது வாசற்படிவழுக்குகிறது.... Wealth inflates, and the door steps are the occasions of one's sliding. இந்தச்செல்லமெல்லாமிங்கேநடவாது. Your soft prattlings and delicate talk won't do here. 2. I can't leave you unpunished. செல்லங்காட்ட, inf. To caress or fondle a child. செல்லங்சொஞ்ச-செல்லம்பண்ண, inf. To prattle, use gestures, &c., as a humored child, or female. 2. To fondle, dally with a woman. செல்லச்சிரிப்பு, v. noun. A delicate, tender smile. செல்லங்கொடுக்க, inf. To be indulgent to a child. செல்லச்செருக்கு, s. As செல்வச்செ ருக்கு. செல்லச்சோறு, s. Rice given in small quantities, and great varieties, dainties. செல்லத்தனம், s. [prov.] As செல்லம். செல்லத்தொந்தி--செல்லத்தொப்பை, s. A premature paunch-belly through high living. செல்லநடை, v. noun. A gentle, graceful pace--as of children, of persons walking at leisure, &c. 2. A slow, loitering walk--as of a lazy person; sauntering. செல்லநரை, s. [prov.] Premature gray hairs, supposed to result from dainty living, and being too much within doors, &c. செல்லப்பசி, s. Frequent hunger, as in children. செல்லப்பிள்ளை, s. A child brought up delicately, a pet. 2. A gentleman of leisure. 3. The second character in comedy, supposed to have been originally a representation of Skanda. செல்லப்பிள்ளைவிளையாட்டு, v. noun. The play, gestures, and humors of an indulged child. 2. The conduct of a man of pleasure, who is careless, and extravagant. செல்லப்பிள்ளைவேஷ்டி--செல்லப்பிள் ளைத்தோவத்தி, s. A child's cloth. செல்லப்பேச்சு, v. noun. A child's prattle, especially of one fondled. 2. Soft, delicate talk of a female. செல்லமடி, s. [prov.] A premature, large udder of a heifer. செல்லமாய்வளர்க்க, inf. To bring up delicately. செல்லம்பொழிய, inf. To pay very merrily, be frolicsome, jovial. 2. To live prosperously and luxuriously, செல் வமாயிருக்க. (c.) செல்லவண்டி--செல்லவயிறு, s. [prov.] Corpulence from high living--as செல் வத்தொந்தி. செல்லன், s. [prov. செல்வன். fem. செ ல்வி.] A child or person delicately brought up. 2. A wealthy person free from care--as செல்லப்பிள்ளை. 19)
