iṭukku (p. 45) கிறேன், இடுக்கினேன், வே ன், இடுக்க, v. a. To press as between two boards, நெருக்க. 2. To pinch, இடுக்கிப்பிடிக் க. 3. To take between the fingers, toes, &c., to grasp--as a crab, with its claws; to lay hold of--as with pincers, to take under arms or between two things, குறடுமுதலிய வற்றாலிடுக்க. அவள்பிள்ளையையிடுக்கிக்கொண்டுவந்தாள். She came with her child on the hip, holding him under the arm. பொருளையிடுக்கிப்பிடிக்கிறான். He holds his property very stingily, tenaciously. இடுக்கி, s. Pincers, tongs, forceps, tweezers, nippers, குறடு. 2. A stingy, parsimonious person, a niggard, உலோபி. முள்ளிடுக்கி, s. Pincers to draw out thorns from the feet. இடுக்கிடை, s. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். இடுக்குதடி, s. A double stick used to press things with--as that of a toddy-drawer to press the flower or fruit-stem of the palmyra, &c. இடுக்குபனை, s. [prov.] Palmyra trees from which toddy is drawn. இடுக்குபிள்ளை, s. A child in arms carried on the hip, கக்கத்திலிடுக்கும்பருவமு டையபிள்ளை. இடுக்குமரம், s. A kind of oilpress, எண்ணெயூற்றுமரம். இடுக்கம், v. noun. Closeness, confinement, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 2. Affliction, adversity, straits, இடுக்கண். இடுக்கப்பட, inf. To grow thick in consistency, to coagulate, to be inspissated, be clotted, உறைய. 3. To congeal, become hard--as wax, metals, &c., to become dry--as mortar, clay, &c., கட்டியாக. 4. To become firm--as a loose tooth, பெலக்க. 5. To be close, rich, luxuriant--as growing corn, fruitful trees, &c., செறிய. எண்மண்டையிறுகிப்போயிற்று. My head feels day (needing oil and bathing). சளியிறுகிற்று. The phlegm (in the throat) is become hard. இறுகக்கட்ட, inf. To brace or fasten tight, close, compact, &c., அழுந் தக்கட்ட. இறுகத்தழுவ, inf. To hug, embrace closely, இறுகவணைக்க. இறுகப்பிசைய, inf. To knead hard, make close by kneading, அழுந்தப்பி சைய. இறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To hold fast, grasp tight, அழுந்தப்பிடிக்க. 2. To be stingy, parsimonious, tenacious, செலவு செய்யாதிருக்க. இறுகவிறுக, [adverbially.] Very tight, drawn tighter and tighter, அழுந்த வழுந்த. இறுகினகை, s. Close-fistedness, parsimony, ஈயாதகை. இறுகினதேகம், s. A firm, compact body. இறுகினமனம், s. An unrelenting heart, a close or parsimonious mind. இறுக்கம், v. noun. Tightness, closeness, compactness, hardness, tenacity, அழுத்தம். 2. Closeness of weather, sultriness, ஒடுக்கம். 3. Parsimoniousness, niggardliness, tenaciousness, கையழுத்தம். 4. iḷkkm (p. 55) s. [vul.] Laxity, tenderness, abatement in severity, suffering, &c., relaxation, indulgence, tenderness of mind, placableness, நெகிழ்ச்சி. இளக்கமாய்விற்றேன். [prov.] I sold it below its value. இளக்கமானபொன், s. Soft or pure gold. கையிளக்கமில்லாதவன், s. A closefisted, tenaceous, parsimonious person, a niggard.

ulvu (p. 66) கிறேன், உலவினேன், வேன், உலவ, v. n. To be modest, reluctant, sparing, parsimonious, கூசிக்குறைக்க 2. There is no administration of justice; no justice or satisfaction can be obtained. கேள்விமுயல். Be prompt in receiving information. கேள்விகொடுக்க, inf. To give ear, to listen--not elegant. கேள்விமறுமொழி, s. Question and answer; a catechism. கேள்விக்கடுதாசி, s. [prov.] Written application to a court of justice. 2. Tenders or proposals in writing. கேள்விக்காரர், s. [prov.] Bidders at an auction. 2. Persons who tender proposals at a purchase. 3. Candidates or applicants for an office. கேள்விச்செவி, s. Listening credulously to hear-say reports. கேள்விச்செவியன் ஊரைக்கெடுத்தான். The credulous ruler ruined the country. கேள்விப்பத்திரம், s. [prov.] A request, application, petition, &c., in writing. கேள்விகேட்பாடு, s. [local.] Judicial inquiry, investigation. கேள்வியற்றஊர்--கேள்வியில்லாதஊர், s. A town without justice. கேள்விமுறை, s. Inquiry into; superintendence, control, management. கேள்வியாக, inf. To be heard, to be reported; to reach the ears--as news; to be heard in court. கை கைகாட்டு, v. noun. Gesture with the hand, as in dancing; beck of the hand. கைகுவிக்க, inf. To hold up the hands joined, in worship, &c. See குவி. கைகுறண்ட, inf. To have the hands bent by spasms. 2. To be cramped in the hands. 3. To be stingy, parsimonious, close-fisted. கைகூச, inf. To be backward in using the hand. See கூசு. கைகூட, inf. To come to hand, be obtained, to succeed, அனுகூலப்பட. அவன்செய்வதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் கைகூடும். All that he does prospers. கைகூப்பு, v. noun. Raising the joined hands in worship--as கூப்பு. 2. The distance from the tip of the fingers to the feet, when the hands are joined and raised above the head. கைகொட்ட, inf. To clap the hands. கைகோக்க, inf. To clasp one another's hands, to join hands. 2. To be arm in arm, to take another's arm. கைகோத்தாட, inf. To dance with arms linked. கைகோள், s. A course of conduct, especially in love affairs. (அகப்பொ.) கேள்வி, v. noun. The grand subjects of information under four heads; 1. அ றம், virtue or a virtuous course of action; all knowledge relating to the nature or practice of virtue, or having virtue as its object, including religion, jurisprudence, ethies and every thing connected with the well-being of society, and the promotion of universal benevolence towards all sentient beings. This is subdivided into, 1. இல்லறம், the duties and usages of man--as a member of society. 2. துறவறம், the duties and practices of the recluse, who renounces social life and retires to the desert. 2. பொருள், wealth, property, substance; truth; all kinds of knowledge relating to the nature, acquisition and uses of learning and wealth--including. 1. கல்விப்பொருள், general knowledge, and science. 2. செல் வப்பொருள், property, trade, commerce and the various occupations for gain or the support of life. 3. இன்பம், delight, gratification, knowledge of the nature and means of pleasure and bliss--especially love and matrimony. 4. வீடு, liberation from births, knowledge relating to final emancipation or eternal felicity. --Note. Another classification makes five parts, the fifth embracing the practice of the rules laid down for the attainment of the benefits implied in the four. 72)

tēymāṉm (p. 259) s. Waste produced by rubbing, தேய்வு. 2. The touch of gold, on the stone, or the quantity lost by rubbing, பொன்னுரைதேய்மானம். 3. Frugality, parsimony, சிக்கனம், (c.) தேய்மானக்காரன், s. A mean penurious person, fond of living at the cost of others, கையிறுக்கக்காரன். 3)

A hold, gripe, clutch, pinch, seizure by the hand, பற்று. 6. Firm grasp of the mind, comprehension, கிரகிப்பு. 7. (fig.) Confidence, reliance, trust, நம்பிக் கை. 8. Help, power, refuge, support, உதவி. 9. Religious belief, opinion or tenet, மதக் கொள்கை. 1. A fist, a closed hand, கை முஷ்டி. 11. A handful with the hand closed, a small quantity, பிடியளவு. பிடிகாசு, s. [prov.] A small sum kept back by a purchaser as auspicious. பிடிகாரன், s. [prov.] A fisherman by occupation மீன்பிடிக்கிறவன். பிடிகொடுக்க, inf. To suffer one's self to be taken. 2. To give a handle. 3. To speak or act so as to commit one's self, to divulge one's affairs unintentionally. பிடிகொடாதபேச்சு, Talk of which the meaning cannot be made out. 2. Abuse or irony in terms not to be taken hold of for prosecution. பிடிக்கட்டு, s. A little bundle especially of palm-leaves, tied up. பிடிக்கொழுக்கட்டை, s. A kind of கொழுக்கட்டை pastry. பிடிசுட்டுப்படைக்க, inf. [prov.] To bake little cakes and offer them to the household gods. பிடிதண்டம், s. Unjust seizure of a person. See தண்டம். பிடிநெல்லு, s. A handful of paddy, taken from each marcal by the servants at the public store, as their perquisite for measuring. பிடிநெல்லுக்கிள்ள, inf. [prov.] To take the handful of paddy for measuring. பிடிபிடியென்றுநிற்க, inf. [fig.] To hasten a business. பிடிபோட, inf. To put a handle to any implement. பிடிப்பிச்சை, s. A handful of rice given by a house-wife to the Brahmans, or other religious mendicants. பிடிப்பிட்டு, s. A small kind of confectionary, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. பிடிமண், s. A handful of sand. நானுன்வாயிற்பிடிமண்போடுகிறேன். I put a handful of sand in your mouth-spoken in anger. பிடியரிசி, s. Handfuls of rice taken from the daily allowance, for charity. பிடியாள், s. A person seized or taken into custody. 2. As அமஞ்சியாள். பிடியெழுத்தாணி, s. A style in a handle, usually folding and with a knife. பிடிமானம், s. Affection, attachment, fondness, favoritism, அன்பு. 2. Relish, zest; a liking, பிரியம். 3. Acquisition, money amassed, தேட்டம். 4. Frugality, sparingness, parsimony, உலோபம். Rigidness, bigotry, pertinacity, perseverance, உறுதி. பிடிமானமில்லாமற்செலவுசெய்கிறான். He expends profusely. பிடியன், appel. n. [vul.] A pot that will hold any given quantity. 2. s. A female elephant, as பிடி. பிடிவாதம், s. Stubbornness, contumacy, pertinacity, perverseness, முரண்டு. 2. Firm determination--as of an enthusiast who tortures himself till the god complies with is request; persistence, strenuousness, விடாநிலை. 3. Unyieldingness, spitefulness, வைராக்கியம். பிடிவாதக்காரன், s. An obstinate, selfwilled person. பிடிவாதி, appel. n. As பிடிவாதக்காரன். பிடிவிட, inf. To let go one's hold or grasp. 2. Moderateness, tolerableness, that which is middling or common-place, மிதம். (c.) 5. (சது.) Toddy, fermented liquor, கள். அம்மட்டு--அம்மட்டும்--அந்தமட்டும். So much, so far. எம்மட்டு-எம்மட்டும்--எந்தமட்டும். How much, how far? என்மட்டிலேநானிருக்கிறேன். I am for myself. மட்டறிய--மட்டிட, inf. To guess, to make an estimate, மதிப்பிட. 2. To bear in mind so as to recognize, or identify; to know well, பழகியறிய. 3. To liken, compare with, ஒப்பிட. 4. To bind, stint, limit, அளவேற்படுத்த. மட்டாய், adv. Moderately, temperately. 2.
