uttiyāpaṉam (p. 61) s. [in rhetoric.] Incongruity, impossibility, absurdity--as அலை கடல்களேழுந்தூர்த்தந்தாத்தினூடே--மலையனையமால் யானையோட்டிக்--கலவாரை--நீறுசெய்துவையநெ டுங்குடைக்கீழ்வாழ்வித்தான்--மாறாச்சீர்வையையார் கோன், the Pandian king of Madura of endless fame filled the seven seas with sand, drove his elephant through the sky, reduced his enemies to ashes, and brought the whole world under his sway. (அலங்.) உலகமாதா, s. The mother of the world--applied to Sarasvati, சரச்சுவதி. 2. Lukshmi, இலக்குமி. 3. Parvati, பார்ப் பதி. (p.) உலகமீன்றாள், s. Parvati the wife of Siva, the mother of the world, பார்ப்பதி. (p.) உலகமுண்டோன், s. Vishnu the world-eater, விட்டுணு. (p.) உலகரட்சகன், s. The saviour or protector of the world. உலகரட்சணியம்--உலகரட்சை, s. Protection, or salvation of the world. உலகர், s. Worldlings, those engrossed by worldly pursuits. (தீ. 335.) (p.) உலகவழக்கம், s. The customs of the world. உலகவாசை--உலகவாஞ்சை, s. Ardent love of worldly, or sensual enjoyments, உலகவிருப்பம். உலகவாழ்வு, s. Temporal prosperity. உலகளந்தோன், s. Vishnu the measurer of the world, விட்டுணு. (p.) உலகாசாரம், s. Relative duties, the customs, rites or duties to be performed according to the country, caste, rank, relation, &c., of persons respectively. உலகாயிதம், s. A system of materialism, or atheistical epicurianism, அறுசமயங்களிலொன்று. See சமயம். (p.) உலகாள--உலகோம்ப, inf. To govern, protect his country--as one of the duties of a king. உலகாள்வோன், s. A monarch, உலோகாதிபன். உலகியல், s. The customs of the world, உலகநடை. உலகோம்பல், v. noun. Preserving the world--one of the six occupations of kings. See தொழில். உலகோற்பத்தி, s. The origin, or development of worlds. மேலுலகு, s. The upper worlds, which are seven in number, viz.: பூலோ கம், புவர்லோகம், சுவர்லோகம், மகாலோகம், சன லோகம், தபோலோகம், சத்தியலோகம். கீழுலகு, s. The lower worlds or regions; which are also seven, அதலம், விதலம், சுதலம், தராதலம், இரசாதலம், மகாதலம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகம், s. The three worlds, viz.: சொர்க்கம், மத்தியம், பாதாளம். மூவுலகாளி, s. ūẕi (p. 71) s. The periodical termination of a great age, or the time of the universal deluge and destruction of all things, the end of the world, உகமுடிவு. 2. A very long time, நெடுங்காலம். 3. (p.) Lifetime, உறைகாலம். 4. The earth, பூமி. ஊழிபெயரினுங்கலங்காருரவோர். Though the world should come to an end, the sages will not deviate from their purposes. ஊழியுள்ளளவும். Through all eternity, lit. to the end of an age. உனக்கூழிவர. may you die--an imprecation. நீடுழிவாழ்க. May you live long. ஊழிகாலம், s. A very long time, ages without number, நெடுங்காலம். (சத. 2.) ஊழிக்காய்ச்சல், s. An epidemic fever, or pestilence supposed to be produced by a malignant demon, தொத்து சுரம். ஊழிக்காற்று, s. A destructive wind that prevails at the end of the world, யுகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுங்காற்று. 2. A demon, or bad vapor that causes epidemic diseases, pestilence, &c., விஷக்காற்று. ஊழித்தீ, s. The deluge, or submarine fire, usually described as a mare dwelling in the sea and breathing fire, by which, at the end of every quadruple age, the fire is consumed, வட வைத்தீ. ஊழிநீர், s. The water which prevails at the last deluge, described as rain poured down from the seven species of clouds united, also as the water of the circumfluent sea, உலகமுடிவிலுண்டாகுஞ்ச லப்பிரளயம். ஊழிநோய், s. A pestilence induced by a malignant demon, தொத்து வியாதி. ஊழியூழிகாலம், s. From age to age, eternity. 2)

krumm (p. 96) s. Act, action, moral actions involving future retribution, &c., கிரியை. 2. Actions of a previous birth, good or evil, entailed on the soul and resulting in the enjoyments and sufferings of the present or a future state, fate, destiny, முன்வினை. 3. (5.) ஆகருட ணம், summoning or invoking a spirit or absent person visibly into one's presence. (6.) வித்துவேடணம், excitment to hatred. (7.) பேதனம், causing separation, dissension, discord. Knowledge and skill religious exercise and ceremonies. கருமத்தலைவர், s. Royal fortunetellers, astrologers, conjurers, foretellers of future events, வருங்காரியஞ்சொல்வோர். கருமத்தலைவன், s. a superntendent. 2. A minister, அரசர்க்குத்துணைவன். கருமத்துரோகம், s. Treachery, treason, villainy துரோகஞ்செய்யல். கருமநிவிர்த்தி, s. Ceremonies performed to expiate the evil deeds of former births in times of disease, &c. கருமபந்தம்--கருமபந்தனம், s. The tie or vinculum, கருமபாசம், Which connects the actions of a former birth with their fruits in after transmigrations. Wils. p. 198. KARMMABANTHANA. கருமபாகை, s. One of the three parts of the Vedas, relating to daily ceremonial rites, வேதத்தின்பொருட்பாகுபாட் டிலொன்று. See ஞானபாகை, and அருத்தபாகை. கருமபூமி, s. The part of the earth deemed most sacred in which Hinduism prevails and religious rites are regularly performed, வினைசெய்தற்குரியபூமி. Wils. p. 198. KARMMAB'HUMI. 2. A place of cremation, சுடுகாடு. கருமபூமிக்குரிமை, s. Prescribed funeral rites for deceased ancestors, அந்தியேட்டிமுதலிய சடங்கு. கருமாதிகாரன், s. A ruler, a governor, கருமத்தலைவன். கருமாதிசெய்ய, inf. To perform funeral rites. கருமாத்துமா, s. A heinous sinner, one who has accumulated evil deeds either in a previous birth or the present. Wils. p. 199. KARMMATMAN. கருமாந்தம்--கருமாந்தரம்--கருமாந் தியம், s. To tie the stem of a betel-berry to its stake. கொடிகட்டித்தியாகங்கொடுக்க, inf. To hoist a flag when about to give alms. கொடிகட்டிநிற்க, inf. [prov.] To stand or walk, holding by a line attached to a beam--as a woman in labor, a sick person, &c. கொடிகட்டிவாழ, inf. To hoist a flag, in token of prosperity and honor. கொடிக்கள்ளி, s. A small species of கள்ளி milk-hedge. கொடிக்கால், s. Stakes, sticks, set to support betel-plants. 2. Betel-runners or tendrils. கொடிக்கால்வெள்ளாளன், s. A particular class of vellalas who cultivate betel-gardens. கொடிக்கூடை, s. A wicker-basket. கொடிக்கையாந்தகரை--கொடிக்கை யான், s. A medicinal plant. See கையாந் தகரை. கொடிக்கொத்தான், s. A medicinal bushy creeper, the juice of which is used to thicken butter-milk, Cassyta filiformis. கொடிச்சண்பகம், s. A creeper with a very fragrant flower, a species of சண்ப கம். which see. கொடிச்சுற்றிக்கொண்டுபிறக்க, inf. To be born with the cord of the placenta round the neck--deemed ominous to the maternal uncle. கொடிச்சூரை, s. A creeper species of சூரை. கொடித்திரும்ப, inf. To pass the meridian--spoken of the sun or other heavenly body. கொடித்திரும்பினவுடனே. [prov.] As soon as the sun has passed the meridian. கொடித்தட்டு, v. noun. A contention with tow paper kites to see which will cut the other. கொடித்தக்காளி, s. A kind of creeping plant, ஓர்செடி. கொடித்திருப்பாடகம், s. A foot ornament of women, மாதர்காலணியிலொன்று. கொடித்துத்தி, s. A medicinal spreading shrub. See துத்தி. கொடித்தூக்க, inf. To hoist a flag. கொடிநரம்பு, s. Prominent veins. கொடிநாய், s. A grey-hound, சோணங் கிநாய். கொடிநாவல், s. A kind of நாவல் tree. கொடிநெட்டி, s. The sensitive plant. கொடிபறத்தல், v. noun. The displaying of a flag; a term used for asserting dominion. கொடிபோட, inf. To hoist a flag or standard--as a conquerer; or as a signal for battle. 2. (fig.) To be firmly determined on a thing. கொடிப்பசளை--கொடிவயலை--கொடி வசளை, s. A creeper whose leaves are edible. See பசளை. கொடிப்படை, s. The van of an army, the banner detachment, முன்னணிப்படை. கொடிப்பயறு, s. A kind of pulse that puts forth tendrils. கொடிப்பாசி, s. Creeping moss upon water. கொடிப்பாலை, s. A kind of creeper. See பாலை. கொடிப்பிள்ளை, s. The young of a crow. 2. A kind of goat, பள்ளையாடு. கொடிப்புலி, s. A species of tiger with a long and slender body like a greyhound. கொடிப்பூ, s. Flowers of creepers--one of the four varieties. see பூ. கொடிமரம்--கொடித்தம்பம்--கொடிக் கம்பம், s. A flag-staff. கொடிமல்லிகை, s. A running jasmine. கொடிமாதளை, s. A kind of pomegranate. கொடிமாடு, s. A bullock lank and long. கொடிமுடி, s. A shrubby plant whose branches intertwine. கொடிமுடிந்தவழக்கு, s. An intricate law-suit. கொடிமுடியன், s. [prov.] A dangerous snake, long and small, with a large flat head--as கொம்பேறிமூக்கன். கொடிமுந்திரிகை, s. The vine, grapevine, திராட்சக்கொடி. கொடிமுறுக்கு, s. Twist. கொடியத்தி, s. A kind of fig-tree growing near rivers with slender branches. கொடியரசு, s. A tree, ஓரரசு. கொடியறுகு, s. A kind of grass. கொடியாடு, s. A long legged goat. கொடியால், s.
