A secret place in the waistcloth, உள்மடி. அடிமடை, s. The commencement of a water channel, முதல்மடை. அடிமண், s. The earth adhering to one's feet, taken for enchantments against him (வசியம்) or for witchcraft, காலிலொட்டியமண். அடிமயக்கு, s. Transposing the lines of a verse without destroying the sense, அடிமாற்றுகை. 2. A verse so formed, ஓர்பா, as, அங்கண்மதியமரவின்வாய்ப்பட்டென்ப, பூசல்வாயாப்புலம்புமனைகலங்கி. அடிமறிமண்டிலவாசிரியப்பா, s. One of the four kinds of ஆசிரியம், the lines of which are interchangeable at pleasure, the meaning remaining the same, ஓர்வகையாசிரியப்பா. அடிமறிமாற்றுப்பொருள்கோள், s. Construction in which the lines of a stanza are interchangeable, the harmony and meaning remaining the same, or the harmony only slightly affected. See பொருள்கோள், as, சுரையாழவம்மிமிதப்பவரையனை ய, யானைக்குநீத்துமுயற்குநிலையென்ப கானகநாடன் சுனை. அடிமுகனை, s. [vul.] Beginning-as of a story, &c. அடிமுடி, s. Order, regularity, வர லாறு. 2. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which the first word of a line has a meaning opposite to that of the next, செய்யுட்டொடை யிலொன்று, as, இருள்பரந்தன்னமாநீர்மருங்கின், நிலவுகுவித்தன்னவெண்மணலொருசிறை, where darkness and moonlight are opposite. அடிமோனைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhyme in which each line begins with the same letter, ஓர் வகை மோனைத்தொடை. அடியடியாக, adv. [prov.] In succession, as the descent of title, &c., தலைமுறை தலைமுறையாக. அடியந்தாதி, s. A repetition in verse. See அந்தாதி. அடியளபெடை, s. Prolonging the sounds of long vowels at the beginning of every line, தொடைவிகற்பத்தொன்று. அடியறுக்கி, s. A flat piece of wood by which the potter marks his work and cuts it from the wheel below, மட்கலமறுக்குங்கருவி. அடியனாதி, s. Time immemorial, antiquity, தொன்றுதொட்டுள்ளகாலம். அடியார், s. [sing. அடியான்--அடி யாள்.] Slaves, servants as applied to devotees in reference to their deity, and used by persons of themselves in addressing superiors, to show respect, obedience or submission, தொண்டர். அடியிட, inf. To set on foot, commence an undertaking, a law suit, &c., தொடங்க. 2. To make a beginning in braiding--as the bottom of a basket, the first end of a mat, &c., பாய்முதலியவை முடைதற்கு அடியிட. அடியுரம், s. [prov.] Ancestral property, original stock. 2. Crop of a past year reserved for the sustenance of the following. 3. Manure put on the soil round a tree, &c., எரு. 4. Strength from food, power of wealth, &c.; ex உரம், strength. அடியெடுத்துவைக்க, inf. To begin to walk as children. அடியெதுகைத்தொடை, s. One of the forty-three kinds of rhymes in which the second letters of each line are of the same class, ஓரெதுகைத்தொடை. அடியேன், s. I your slave, your humble servant. அடியோடுகெட, inf. To be destroyed utterly, extirpated. அடியோட்டி, s. A triangular instrument with spikes, which, however placed, has one spike upward to pierce the feet of men or cattle; used in war, &c., a caltrop. அடிவயிறு, s. An offering made in front of a temple, for show. அலங்காரபஞ்சகம், s. A poem of a hundred verses, (lit.) the five forms of beauty. It is a series of five kinds of verses; viz.: வெண்பா, கலித்துறை, அக வல், ஆசிரியவிருத்தம், சந்தவிருத்தம். (இவ்வகை யே மாறிமாறி நூறுசெய்யுள் அந்தாதித்துப்பாடுவது.) அலங்காரப்படுத்த, inf. aḷ (p. 33) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To measure, fathom, expore, estimate, அளவுசெய்ய. 2. To apportion, mete out, measure out, பங்கிட. 3. To extend, reach, எட்ட. விசும்பளந்தாண்டுநின்றிடுஞ்சிகரியை. The turrets which reached to the sky. மரக்காலைப்பாய்ச்சியளக்கிறான். He measures thrusting in the marcal; i. e. into the heap. பறைவெட்டியளக்கிறான்--பறைதட்டியளக்கிறான். He measures by striking off the excess of the grain. ஐயனளந்தபடி. As God allots. அளக்கை--அளத்தல், v. noun. Measuring. அளபு, v. noun. Measurement, அ ளவு. 2. The lengthening of the sound of a letter, அளபெடை. அளபெடுக்க, inf. To lengthen a letter, whether vowel or consonant, by the insertion of another short letter or mute, as the case may be, for the sake of the poetry, and sometimes for euphony, as, கழூஉ for கழு; மாத்திரைமிக் கொலிக்க. அளபெடை, v. noun. The lengthening of a letter chiefly for the sake of the verse. There are two ways of doing this. 1. உயிரளபெடை, the addition of a short vowel to a long one, either in the beginning, middle, or end of a word--as ஈஇ கை, gift--for ஈகை; படாஅ கை, banner--for படாகை; and குழூஉ, multitude--for குழு. Again this is divided into இயற்கையளபெடை, and செயற்கையளபெ டை. 2. ஒற்றளபெடை, the lengthening of the mutes, ங், ஞ், ண், ந், ம், ன், வ், ய், ல், ள், and ஃ by being repeated twice either in the middle or end of a word when they are placed after one or two short syllables, as அரங்கம், முரஞ்ஞ்சு, மண்ண்ணு, அம்ம்பு, கொள்ள்க, விலஃஃகி. அளப்பம்--அளப்பு, v. noun. Measuring, அளக்கை. 2. (fig.) Fate, destiny, ஊழ். 3. Needless repetition, chatter, அலப்பு. 4. Expressing dissatisfaction, முறுமுறுக்கை. வனிதையரளப்பிலர், The damsels are without number. அளப்பளக்க, inf. To repeat, use needless repetitions, prate, chatter, அ லப்ப. 2. To complain, grumble, express dissatisfaction, முறுமுறுக்க. அளப்பன், s. See பிங்கலை. இடைக்கட்டு, s. A girdle, sash. 2. The allowance made for the weight of a vessel before weighing any thing in it. இடைக்காடன், s. A Rishi or சித்தன்--one of the eighteen. இடைக்கிடை. Here and there, interspersed, நடுநடுவே. 2. Of like weight, even weight, equilibrium, நிறைக்குநிறை இடைக்குலநாதன், s. Vishnu as brought up by shepherds. இடைக்குறை, s. [in grammar.] A word shortened in the middle, syncope, elision; as ஓதி for ஓந்தி, camelion. (See விகாரம்.) 2. An island, blank space in a river, &c., ஆற்றிடைக்குறை. இடைக்கொள்ளை, s. Pillaging, plunder, free booty, plundering without regard to either party, நடுக்கொள்ளை. 2. (in Agastiar.) The ravages of an epidemic discase, கொள்ளைநோயான்வருமழிவு. இடைசுருங்குபறை, s. A small drum tapering in the middle, உடுக்கை. இடைசூரி, s. [prov.] Gold or silverbeads interspersed here and there between sacred or other beads, உருத்திராக்க முதலியவற்றிற்கிடையிற்கோத்திடுவது. இடைச்சனி--இடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The second or middle tribe of வைசியர்--the third caste. இடைச்சேரி, s. A shepherd's village. இடைத்தட்டு, s. Getting profit indirectly by interposing between parties, &c. or by purchasing goods of one and selling them again from a distance. இடைநடு, s. The middle emphatically (a pleonasm in rhetoric.) இடைநரை, s. Hair or beard growing grey here and there. இடைநிலை, s. In verbs generally, the characteristics of tense, வினையிடைநிலை. 2. A neutral state, neutral or middle state, stagnation in business transactions, இருபுறத்திலுஞ்சாராமனிற்கை. 3. In some compound nouns, one of the component parts, பெயரிடைநிலை. இடைநிலைத்தீபகம், s. One of the beauties of poetry, விளக்கணிமூன்றிலொன்று. See தீபகம். இடைநிலைமயக்கு, s. [in orthography.] The proper combination of letters in the middle of a word, மொழியி லிரண்டெழுத்து மயங்கிநிற்கை--if the same consonant be repeated in the middle of a word, it is called, உடனிலைமெய்மயக்கு; if otherwise, it is called, வேற்றுநிலைமெய்ம யக்கு. இடைநீரினிற்க, inf. [prov.] To swim with the body erect and the water only up to the waist. இடைப்பட, inf. To interpose, happen in the interim, come in, between, among, &c., to happen, இடையிலுண்டாக. இடைப்படுதானம், s. Giving of a secondary order, bestowing through pity on the poor, the blind, மத்திமதானம். இடைப்பழம், s. Ripe fruits interspersed among the unripe. இடைப்பழம்பழுத்தல், v. noun. Ripening as fruits here and there. இடைப்பிறவரல், v. noun. Words intervening between any one word and another with which it makes sense--as between the noun and its attribute, &c., எழுவாய்முதலிய தொடரினுள் இடையிலேற்ற பிற சொல்வரல். இடைப்புழுதி, s. Land in a state for sowing, neither very moist nor very dry, காய்ந்துங்காயாதிருக்கிறபுழுதி. இடைப்புள்ளி, s. Marks scattered here and there--as in tobacco leaves, &c., fruits, &c. இடைப்பூட்டு, s. A truss, girdle, அரைப்பூட்டு. இடைப்போகம், s. An interior crop, out of season, இடையிற்புன்பயிர்விளைவு. இடைமடக்கு, s. Silencing one by vociferation, இடையிற்றடுக்கை. 2. Haughty speaking, இடக்குமடக்கானபேச்சு. 3. [in prosody.] The repetition of a word in the middle of a line with a varied meaning. See மடக்கு. இடைமுள், s. Small, new eruptions about a healing ulcer or bile, மறு முள்பாய்கை. 2. A disease, a kind of eruption, ஓர்கரப்பன். இடைமேடு, s. Rice-land of moderate height, நடுத்தரமானமேடு. இடையற, inf. To cease or terminate suddenly. இடையறாவன்பு, s. Never-ceasing love. இடையன், s. (fem. இடைச்சி.) A shepherd--as occupying a middle position. இடைப்புத்திபிடரியிலே. The shepherds have their wit in their nape; i. e. they have none. இடையன்கால்வெள்ளி, s. [prov.] The star Aldabaran in the constellation Aries, ஓர்விண்மீன். இடையாந்தரம், s. An intermediate space or time. அந்தவேலை யிடையாந்தரத்திலே கெட்டுப்போ யிற்று. The business was interrupted, spoiled in the interim. இடையாயர், s. Persons of a middling class in piety, excellence, &c. See தலை and கடை. இடையிட, inf. To intervene, be interspersed, to have intermediate spaces either of time or place, to intermit, happen intermediately, நடுவிற்றோன்ற. இடையிட்டுவந்தசெல்வம், s. Acquired wealth and prosperity, obtained during life, not derived from ancestors. இடையிட்டெதுகை, s. The எது கை or rhyming of the third letter in every other line. இடையிடை. From time to time, at intervals, intervening space. இடையிலேகொண்டுபோக, inf. To take by theft or force, to plunder fruits, furniture, &c. 2. To take off property at one's death--as persons who are not heirs. 3. To seize and carry off property from one who has stolen it--as a constable from a thief. (c.) இடையிலேவயிறுவளர்க்க, inf. To get a living at the expense of others, not reducing one's own stock. (c.) இடையினவெதுகை, s. One of the இனவெதுகை--that in which the second letter of each line is any of the medial letters. இடையீடு, s. Obstacle, impediment, frustration, விக்கினம். 2. Equivalent, equilibrium, ஈடு. இடையூறு, s. Frustration, interruption, disappointment, obstruction, hinderance, mishap, casualty, contingence, misfortune, disaster, இடர். (c.) இடையெண், s. A poem increasing and decreasing like the waves of the sea, அம்போதரங்கத்தொன்று. இடையொடுகடைமடக்கு, s. A figure in Rhetoric, repetition of a word or phrase in the middle and end of a line with different meanings, மடக்கணியி லொன்று. இடைவழக்கு, s. [prov.] A suit at law instituted by a new claimant while the previous one is going forward, கிளை வழக்கு. இடைவழக்காளி, s. An intervening party in a law-suit. இடைவழி, s. Midway. இடைவள்ளல், s. A term common to the second of the three classes of kings famed for liberality. (p.) இடைவாய், s. The degrees marked upon a steel-yard. இடைவிட, inf. To intermit, suspend, interrupt, leave intermissions, interstices, &c. இடைவிட்டுவிட்டு. Every other one. இடைவிடாமழை, s. Incessant rain. இடைவிடாமல், neg. v. part. Incessantly, constantly, without intermission. இடைவெட்டுப்பணம், s. A clipped or imperfectly stamped coin, மாறுமத் திரைவிழுந்தபணம். 2. [prov.] Profit made indirectly, பொறுக்கியெடுத்தபணம். இடைவெட்டுப்பேச்சு, s. Derision, ridicule. இடைவெளி, s. An intervening space, நடுவெளி. எட்கிடை--எள்ளிடை, s. The thickness of a rape-seed. iṇai (p. 45) s. Union, conjunction, communion, fellowship, இசைவு. 2. Comparison, parallel, similitude, resemblance, ஒப்பு. 3. (p.) Two things of a kind, a pair, couple, brace, துணை. 4. A companion, associate, partner, escort, protector, துணைவன். 5. Desire, இச்சை. 6. Women's hair, கூந்தல். இணையினெஞ்சமே. O! mind, debased beyond comparison. (வைராக்.) இறைகழலிணைமேவியவிமலர். Holy men who unite themselves to the feet of the Supreme Being. இணைக்கயல், s. A couple of carpfish, figures of which in gold, silver, &c., form one of the eight auspicious articles placed on special occasions as good omens, also as pleasing to the gods, அட் டமங்கலத்தொன்று. 2. One of the emblems of royalty, அரசசின்னத்தொன்று. இணைக்கல்லை, s. Two leaf-plates --as set before a religious mendicant or pandarum, while feeding him. இணைக்குப்போக, inf. [prop. இணை யாகப்போக.] To walk with another, to walk abreast. இணைக்குறளாசிரியப்பா, s. A kind of ஆசிரியப்பா, some of whose middle lines are shorter than the first or last line. இணைமணிமாலை, s. A poem consisting either of the kind of verses called வெண்பா and அகவல், or வெண்பா and கலித்துறை, in hundred verses and composed in accordance with the rule of அந்தாதி--one of the பிரபந்தம். இணைமுரண்டொடை, s. [in poetry.] A kind of ryhme where the first two feet in a line are opposed to each other either in word or meaning, ஓர்தொடை-as சீறடிப்பேரகலல்குல். இணைமோனைத்தொடை, s. A species of rhyme in which the first letters of each of the first two feet are the same. See தொடை. இணையசை, s. A compound metrical syllable, நிரையசை. இணையடி or கழலிணை, s. The two feet. இணையடிசூட, inf. To adorn, crown one's self with the feet (of the deity or guru) regarding them as flowers.--Note. To place the feet of another on one's head, is a figurative form for expressing great reverence, devotedness, respect, &c. இணையளபெடைத்தொடை, s. A verse in which the first letter of the first two feet is protracted. இணையிட்டுப்பார்க்க, inf. To compare one thing with another. இணையியைபுத்தொடை, s. The repetition of the same letter in the last two feet of any line. See தொடை. இணையெதுகைத்தொடை, s. [in poetry.] The rhyming of the second letters of the first two feet in each line. இணையெழுத்து, s. [prov.] To possess a person--as a demon for the sake of uttering oracles, ஆவேசங்கொள்ள. உருச்செபிக்க--உருப்போட, inf. To repeat a course of prayers, &c, மந்திர முருப்போட. உருத்தரிக்க, inf. To become shaped, &c.--as the fetus when advancing towards maturity, வடிவங்கொள்ள. உருநாட்டு, s. [prov.] An idol, statue, விக்கிரகம்; [ex நாட்டு.] உருப்பட, inf. To be formed, shaped, உருவாக. 2. To prosper, rise to eminence, சீர்ப்பட. உருப்படி, s. A piece, any article counted. இங்கேநாற்பதுஉருப்படிசீலையிருக்கிறது. Here are forty pieces of cloth. பத்துருப்படி. Ten things, articles, utensils. உருப்படுத்த, inf. To form in the womb, கருவிலுருவாக்க. 2. To mould, shape, to form--as the work of a smith, a mason, &c., உருவாக்க. உருப்போட, inf. To reiterate incantations for expelling a disease, poison, &c. 2. To repeat or rehearse a lesson frequently, in order to learn it by heart. உருமாற, s. To change one's shape, metamorphose one's self as the Rishis are reputed to do, வேற்றுருக்கொ ள்ள. 2. To become changed in countenance--as by disease, &c., சரீரம்வேறுபட. உருவழிய, inf. To become disfigured by disease, to become deformed. உருவாக, inf. To obtain form, shape, &c., வடிவமாக. உருவாக்க, inf. To form, shape, fashion, make, mould--as the work of a smith or mason, உருச்செய்ய. 2. To repair, complete, சீர்ப்படுத்த. உருவிலி, s. Kama, காமன். (p.) உருவில்லாதது, s. A thing without form or shape, without beauty. உருவிழக்க, inf. To lose one's proper appearance, become changed in shape, color, &c., வடிவமிழக்க. உருவுவமம், s. [in rhetoric.] A kind of comparison from analogy--as when a ship at sea is compared to an elephant in an army, வடிவுவமை. உருவெடுக்க, inf. To become formed, conceived in the womb, (lit.) to take a body or form--as the soul according to the deeds of former births, வடிவெடுக்க. 2. To assume a shape--as in transmigrations, incarnations, and transient appearances of a deity, &c., வேஷங்கொள்ள. உருவெளி, s. An imaginary appearance of a person, or other objects, a visionary object, an illusion, chiefly applied to the supposed sight of an absent lover, உருவெளித்தோற்றம். (p.) உருவெளிக்காட்சி--உருவெளித் தோற்றம்--உருவெளிப்பாடு, s. The imaginary appearance of an absent lover. See above. உருவெளிப்பட, inf. To appear-as a visionary object, உருவம்வெள்ளிடை யிற்றோன்ற. உருவேற, inf. To rise or increase in numbers--as the repetition of prayers or incantations, மந்திரவுருவதிகரிக்க. 2. To be possessed of a demon for the utterance of oracles, ஆவேசமேற. 3. (fig.) To become furious, to fall into a fit, மூர்க்கமதிகரிக்க. உருவேறத்திருவேறும். Divine power will be acquired in proportion to the reiteration of the incantations. உருவேற்படுத்த, inf. To form, to fashion, உருவமுண்டாக்க. உருவேற்ற, inf. To reiterate incantations for expelling a disease, poison from the bite of a snake, &c., மந்திரத்தை யதிகமாய்ச்செபிக்க. 2. oṟṟu (p. 84) கிறேன், ஒற்றினேன், வேன், ஒற்ற, v. a. To bring into contact, join, unite, bring faces together in kissing, அ ணைக்க. 2. To touch. ply, apply--as clothes, with slight pressure and repetition, to foment, ஒற்றிடம்போட. 3. (p.) To dress another, to put on clothes, உடுத்த. (நிகண்டு.) 4. v. n. (c.) To give place to another (in sitting, meeting in the road, &c.), to recede, விலக. 5. [prov.] To move by leaps as a beast with its forelegs tied together, தத்த. 6. To tug as a beast in order to break its rope, தும்பையிழுக்க. ஒற்றிநட. Walk aside மாடொற்றியொற்றிப்போகின்றது. The cow goes by leaps. எருதுகயிற்றையொற்றியிழுக்கின்றது. The ox tugs and pulls its rope. அவர்சென்றநாளொற்றித்தேய்ந்தவிரல். My finger is worn away by touching (on the wall) the delineated days of his absence. (குறள்.) ஒற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To encroach on another's land. 2. To apply to, or bring in contact with one's person--as medicaments, flowers, &c. 3. To give way, to recede. ஒற்றிப்போக, inf. To give way, recede, give place to another, விலகிப்போக. ஒற்றியிருக்க, inf. To give place in sitting, to sit further, விலகியிருக்க. ஒற்றியெடுக்க, inf. To absorb or extract moisture by touching it with an absorbent. ஒற்றியொற்றிக்கூட்ட, inf. To encroach by little and litte on another's land. ஒற்றிவைக்க, inf. To set one aside, further off, out of the way, தூரவை க்க. பொட்டணமொற்ற, inf. To apply cloths--as in fomentations, &c. ஒற்று, v. noun. Application, touching repeatedly with cloths, the surface of the body with slight pressure--a kind of fomentation, ஒற்றல். ஒற்றிட--ஒற்றுப்பிடிக்க, inf. To apply cloths--as in fomentations. திருவொற்றாடை, s. Cloth for absorbing water from the body of an idol after bathing or anointing. 28)

kṭṉ (p. 87) s. Debt, loan of money or of goods on trust, இருணம். 2. Tribute, tax, குடியிறை. 3. Duty, obligation, what is proper to be done or what one is bound to do, that which is devolved on one, accountability, responsibility, கடமை. 4. Measurement, அளவு. 5. A dry measure--the மரக்கால். கடனுக்குப்பாதகனாய்ப்போனவன். One who is deeply in debt. காலைக்கடன்கழித்தல். Performing the morning devotional exercises. அதுன்மேல்விழுந்தகடன். It is your duty. பகைவரைமுதலாய்ப்பரிவதுகடன். Even enemies ought to be loved. யான்செய்யவேண்டியகடன். The duty which I ought to discharge. கடனடைக்க--கடனிறுக்க--கட ன்றீர்க்க, inf. To clear off a debt. 2. To perform an obligation, duty, &c., in general. புத்திரன்றன்கடன்றீர்த்துப்போட்டான். The child has done his duty--spoken in commendation, or with reference to the performance of some exploit, &c. கடனாக, inf. [used adverbially.] As a loan, in loan. கடனாளி, s. One who is obliged to do a thing. 2. A debtor. கடன்கட்டு--கடன்வழி, s. Doing a thing for form's sake, not cordially. கடன்கட்டாய்ப்பேச, inf. To speak roughly. கடன்கழிக்க, inf. To perform a duty, to return a kindness, &c., கடமை செய்ய. 2. To perform the last funeral rites for a deceased person, either by fire or water, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. 3. To perform private devotions as the repetitions of the மந்திரம், &c., நித்தியகருமஞ்செய்ய. 4. To do a service for one out of compliment, or for form's sake, மனமின்றிச்செய்ய. கடன்காரன், s. A debtor, கடன் பட்டவன். 2. sometimes a creditor, கடன் கொடுத்தவன். கடன்கேட்க, inf. To demand a debt. 2. To ask for a loan of money. கடன்கொடுத்தவன், s. A creditor, a loaner. கடன்சீட்டு--கடன்பத்திரம்--க டன்முறி, (s.) A bond of debt. கடன்செய்ய, inf. To do one's duty, கடமைசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, பிதிர்கருமஞ்செய்ய. கடன்திருநாள், s. A holy festival observed in fulfilment of a vow. (Besch.) கடன்பட, inf. To contract debt, be indebted, கடனுக்குள்ளாக. கடன்பற்ற, inf. To recover payment of a debt, கடனறவிட. கடன்வாங்க, inf. To borrow money, contract a debt. வாங்கினகடனைக்கொடாதவல்லாளகண்டன். . . . One who is too unyielding to pay off his debts. செய்கடன், s. A duty. 35)

karuṭaṉ (p. 96) s. The Brahmany kite, கலுழன். 2. The bird and vehicle of Vishnu. He is generally represented as a being something between a man and a bird, and considered to be sovereign of the feathered race; he is the son of Kasyapa and Vinata and the younger brother of Aruns, விட்டு ணுவாகனம், Falco pondischerianus. Wils. p. 283. GARUDA. கருடகம்பம், s. A species of lamp used by one of the Vaishnava sects at religious festivals. கருடகேதனன்-கருடக்கொடியோ ன்--கருடத்துவசன், s. Vishnu, விட்டுணு, whose flag is the kite. Wils. p. 283. GARUDATHVAJA. கருடக்கல்--கருடப்பச்சைக்கல்-கருடபட்சிக்கல் s. A kind of medicinal stone or mineral taken for the bite of a snake or put on the wound with the repetition of incantations, ஓர்கல். கருடக்கொடி, s. A flag in which the picture of a kite is drawn, கருடத்துவ சம். 2. A plant called பெருமருந்து, Aristolochia Indica. 3. Another plant called குறிஞ்சா, Gymnema sylvestra. கருடக்கொவ்வை--கருடத்தொண் டை, s. A climbing plant, ஓர்கொடி Clitoria, L. கருடசாரம், s. Sea salt, சிந்துல வணம். கருடதரிசனம், s. The worship of the kite as the representative of Vishnu on special days; the sight of the bird at such seasons is deemed very auspicious, கருடனைத்தரிசிக்கை. கருடதிசை, s. East, கீழ்த்திசை-used in astrology. கருடத்தியானம், s. Devotion addressed by the enchanter to the god Garuda in case of venomous bites, கருட னைத்தியானிக்கை. கருடபஞ்சாக்கரம், s. An incantation of five letters sacred to Garuda. கருடபாடாணம்--கருடபாஷாண ம், s. A species of arsenic. கருடபார்வை, s. A squint eye, மாறுபார்வை. 2. [prov.] An expressive, penetrating look. கருடவாகனன், s. A Vishnu regarded mounted on Garuda. கருடவித்தை, s. Incantations, &c., connected with Garuda. கருடற்கண்ணன், s. [as புதன்.] The elder brother of கருடன் and son of சந்திரன். (சது.) கருடன்கிழங்கு, s. A kind of root. கருடன்தாய், s. The same as விநதை. கருடாஞ்சனம், s. Eye-salve for a person bitten by a snake, or for cases of apoplexy, விஷந்தீர்க்கக்கண்ணிலிடுமருந்து. ஆகாசகருடன், s. A climbing plant whose root resembles the head of a Brahmany kite, கொல்லன்்கோவை, Bryonia epigea. 132)

kuṟṟm (p. 132) s. Fault; moral or physical imperfection, blemish, defect, deformity. பி ழை. 2. Crime, misdemeanor, guilt, தீங்கு. 3. Impurity; ceremonial or moral defilement--as cause of offence to the deity, of blight to plants, &c., சூதகம். 4. Reproach, stigma, charge, accusation, blame, குறை. 5. Amercement, mulct, fine, அபராதம். 6. (சது.) Sickness, நோய். முக்குற்றம், s. The three kinds of evil, incident to the soul in connexion with births, as darkening the understanding and leading to sin. 1. காமம், sexual desire, lust. 2. வெகுளி, anger. 3. மயக்கம், bewilderment, mental illusion. யாக்கைக்குற்றம், s. The five defects of the body; 1. கொட்டாவி, yawning. 2. நெட்டை, snapping the joints. 3. குறுகு றுப்பு, snoring. 4. கூன்கிடை, lying shrunk up. 5. நட்டுவிழல், nodding. அஷ்டகுற்றம், s. The eight imperfections of creatures. 1. ஞானாவரணியம், ignorance, or want of wisdom. 2. தரி சனாவரணியம், defective perception. 3. வேதநீயம், comprehensibleness. 4. மோக நீயம். subjection to the passions. 5. ஆயு, age, limited duration. 6. நாமம், having a name or describableness. 7. கோத்திரம், parentage, descent. 8. அந்தராயம். liability to impediments and accidents. The opposite of these are peculiar to the deity. See எண்குணம் under குணம். நூற்குற்றம், s. The ten faults or defects in a literary composition. 1. குன்றக்கூறல், a partial statement--saying too little. 2. மிகைபடக்கூறல், redundancy-saying too much. 3. கூறியதுகூறல், tautology--repetition. 4. மாறுகொளக்கூறல், inconsistency--contradictory statements. 5. வழூஉச்சொற்புணர்த்தல், the employment of improper or inappropriate words and terms. 6. மயங்கவைத்தல், obscurity, mystification. 7. வெற்றெனத்தொடுத்தல், emptiness, barrenness. 8.மற்றொன்றுவிரித்தல், digression--introducing another subject. 9. சென்றுதேய்ந்திறுதல், gradual loss of vigor and tone. 1. நின்றுபயனின்மை, useless statements; verbosity; bombast. இமைக்குற்றங் கண்ணுக்குத்தெரியாது. The eye does not see the defect of the eyelashes; i. e. one's own errors, and those of his family and friends, are unnoticed. குற்றங்கடிய, inf. To avoid guilt. குற்றங்களைய, inf. To free from errors. குற்றங்காட்ட, inf. To expose faults. குற்றங்காண, inf. To find fault. 2. To blame, to be blameable, &c. குற்றஞ்சாட்ட--குற்றஞ்சுமத்த--குற் றப்படுத்த--குற்றமேற்ற, inf. To conviet, charge with a fault or crime; to accuse. அவன்மேற்குற்றஞ்சுமத்து. He has been found guilty. குற்றஞ்சாராதவன், s. An innocent man. குற்றஞ்செய்ய--குற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To commit a fault; to perpetrate a crime; to do wrong, &c. குற்றஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To accuse, criminate, blame, censure, charge with fault; to impeach. 2. To object, gainsay. 3. To criticize; to be hypercritical, censorious, captious; to expose faults. குற்றத்தைமறைக்க, inf. To deny a crime; to hide a fault. குற்றந்தீர்க்க--குற்றம்பரிகரிக்க, inf. To correct faults, to free from faults; to expurgate, exculpate, absolve. குற்றந்தெரிக்க, inf. To exhibit faults; to criticize, to sift--as a literary production. குற்றப்பட, inf. To be in fault; to be found guilty, criminal, blameable. குற்றப்பாடு, v. noun. The state of being in fault; accusation, imputation. குற்றம்பார்க்க--குற்றம்பிடிக்க, inf.
