ulai (p. 66) s. A smith's forge, or furnace, கொல்லனுலை. 2. A fireplace for cooking, a hearth, நெருப்புள்ளவடுப்பு. 3. A pot of water set on the fire, or fireplace for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்யவைக்குநீருலை. உலைகட்ட, inf. To decorate the top of a pot with mango leaves and set it on the fireplace with water to receive the rice that is to be boiled and distributed among religious mendicants, or offered in the temple, பொங்கற்பானைக்குமா விலைசெருகியகயிறுகட்ட. உலைகாயவைக்க, inf. To set the rice-pot on the fire filled with water to be heated. உலைகொதிக்க, inf. To boil as water when placed on the fire for cooking, &c. உலைக்களம், s. A smith's forge, கொல்லனுலையிடம். உலைக்குறடு, s. A smith's tongs, இரும்பெடுக்குங்குறடு. உலைத்தண்ணீர்--உலைநீர், s. Water set over the fire for cooking, பாகஞ்செய்ய வைக்குந்தண்ணீர். 2. Water used by the smith in the work of the forge, இரும்பு தோய்க்குநீர். உலைத்துருத்தி, s. A smith's bellows, உலையூதுந்துருத்தி. உலைமுகம், s. A smith's furnace or the centre of the forge, கொல்லனுலையி டம். உலைமூக்கு, s. The hole in the forge in which the bellows are inserted, கொல் லனுலைநாசி. உலைமூடி, s. The cover of a pot used for heating water, உலைப்பானையின் மேல்மூடி. ஊரைவாய்மூடவுலைமூடியில்லை. There is no lid that will cover the country. உலைமூட்ட, inf. To construct a forge and make it ready for work, கொல்லனுலையாயத்தம்பண்ண. 2. To make a fire in the smith's forge, கொல்லனுலை யில்நெருப்புமூட்ட. 3. To make a fire for cooking, அடுப்புமூட்ட. உலைமூட்டினாலுண்டுலகு. If the smith construct the forge, the world will stand. உலையாணிக்கோல், s. A smith's poker, beak-iron, உலையிருப்புக்கோல். 2. A branding-iron, சுட்டுக்கோல். உலையில்வெந்தவிரும்பு, s. Iron well burnt in a smith's forge. உலையேற்ற--உலைவைக்க, inf. To set a pot on the fire, உலைப்பானையையடுப்பி லேவைக்க. அவன்என்தலைக்குஉலைவைக்கிறான். He puts a rice-pot on the fire for my head; i. e. he meditates my ruin. இன்னமுலைவைக்கவில்லை. The rice-pot has not yet been set on the fire. 28)

vāy (p. 385) s. Mouth, வாக்கு. 2. A mouthful, வாய்கொண்டது. 3. Mouth of a cup, a bag, a wound; the muzzle of a gun, &c., பற்றுவாய். 4. Lip, or lips, உதடு. 5. (நல்.) Place, இடம். 6. Manner, mode, ஏழனுருபு. 8. Truth, மெய். 9. A word, சொல். (சது.) அவனுக்குவாயாலும்வயிற்றாலும்போகிறது. He is both passing stools, and vomiting. வாயைமூடு. Hold your tongue. இன்னம்ஒருவாய்சாப்பாடு. Take a mouthful more. எனக்குவாயெழவில்லை. I cannot say a word. இதுகுரைகடல்வாயமுதென்கோ. Shall I call this the nectar of the roaring sea? (p.) குடத்தின்வாயைப்பிடியாதே. To rinse the mouth, before eating, sometimes with appropriate incantations. வாயறியாதுதின்ன, inf. To eat without thought. வாயாங்காரம், s. Arrogance as displayed in one's speech; words of self-conceitedness. வாயாட, inf. [appel. n. வாயாடி.] To speak much and to little purpose, to babble. 2. To quarrel, to argue frivolously, வாதாட. வாயாடிப்பெட்டிமகன். An impertinent good-for-nothing-man. வாயார, With open mouth, See ஆர், v. வாயாவி, s. To water, to form or collect as saliva. 2. To flow from the mouth as spittle, to slaver, எச்சிலொழுக. 3. To water in the mouth for something nice to eat, வாயினீரூற. 4. To long for wealth, fame, office, or learning, அவாவ. வாயெடுக்க, inf. To begin to speak, (lit.) to take mouth. வாயெடுக்கவொட்டாமலடிக்கிறது. Refuting one so that he cannot open his mouth. வாய்கட்ட, inf. [v. noun. வாய்க்கட்டு.] To silence one. 2. To charm a snake or beast so as to prevent its biting. 3. To abstain from improper food when dieting. வாய்கனக்க, inf. [prov.] To articulate indistinctly, as when having the mouth filled with food. வாய்கிறுது, s. Arrogant speech. வாய்கிறதுபேசினாலுதைவரும். If one speak arogantly a kick will follow. வாய்குளிற, inf. To bawl, to vociferate, இரைய. 2. As வாய்வெருவ. வாய்கொடுக்க, inf. To kindle a quarrel. வாய்கொடாமலிருக்கிறது. Being silent. 2. Being unfriendly. வாய்க்கட்டை, s. A gag for a mouth, in abuse. 2. [in cant.] Bribery. வாய்க்கணக்கு, s. Mental arithmetic. 2. Account kept in the memory. வாய்க்கரிசி, s. A ceremony of putting rice into the mouth of a corpse before burning. கூத்தரிசிகுற்றுகிறவீட்டிலேவாய்க்கரிசிக்குவழியி ல்லை. In a rice-pounding-house, there is not a handful for a corpse; those who have abundance have nothing to give. வாய்க்காசு, s. The money cast with rice upon a corpse. 2. Money given to a witness. வாய்க்காடிவார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது. Being very sorrowful, (lit.) having vinegar poured into the mouth. வாய்க்கால், s. Water-course, நீரோடுங் கால். 2. (p.) Arrogance, insolence. வாய்க்கொழுப்புசீலையாலேவடிந்ததுபோலே. As one's insolence forced him to carry hot rice in a napkin. (Prov.) வாய்சலிக்கத்திட்ட, inf. To abuse till the mouth aches. வாய்ச்சம்பிரதாயம், s. Skilfulness in speaking, sometimes in reproach. 2. Oral tradition. See சம்பிரதாயம். வாய்ச்சாலகம், s. Edge of a knife or other instrument, keenness of the edge, ஆயுதங்களின்கூர்மை. வாய்த்தவிடும்போதல். Even the bran is gone; i. e. nothing is left to eat. (பஞ்ச). வாய்த்தலை, s. A Channel of stone for conveying water. வாய்நீர், s. [com. வாணி.] Saliva, spittle. வாய்நீரூற, inf. To slaver. வாய்நீரொழுக, inf. To drivel, to drop sanva from the mouth. வாய்பாடு, v. noun. [in gram.] A model, a specimen; a symbolic term, for all roots of verbs, as செய். 2. A symbolic expression in any art or science, as barbara, celarent, &c. in Logic; spondee dactyl, &c. in Poetry. வாய்பிதற்ற--வாய்பினற்ற, inf. To speak without sense, or incoherently. வாய்புதைக்க--வாய்பொத்த, inf. To shut the mouth with the palm of the hand, as children in fear or wonder. வாய்பூச, inf. To wash the mouth. 2. To flatter, to speak smooth things. 3. TO bribe a superior. (Colloq.) வாய்போட, inf. To interrupt another when talking, or to interfere with others, by words. வாய்ப்பட்டி, s.
