ilvm (p. 53) --இலவு, s. The silk cotton tree whose produce is used for pillows, &c.; there are three kinds, இலவு, கோங்கிலவு, and முள்ளிலவு, Bombax pentandrum, L., or Eriodendron anfractuosum. இலவுகாத்தகிளிபோல. kṉi (p. 102) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To ripen--as fruits, to grow ripe, to be ripe, mellow, luscious, sweet, பழுக்க. 2. To be over-ripe, நைய. 3. To be in flames, to glow, பழுக்கக்காய. 4. To grow tender, to melt, be soft--as the heart by affection, sexual love, devotion, &c., கரைய. 5. To be melted, to be in a state of fusion, உருக. 6. (p.) To be cheerful, be glad, மனங்க ளிக்க. 7. To be excessively enraged, கோபி க்க. 8. v. a. To bury, conceal, hide, புதைக்க. கிழங்குகனியவெந்தது. The yams are well boiled. கனிந்தசொல், s. Sweet words. கனிந்தபழம், s. Ripe fruit. கனிந்தபாடம், s. A well-learnt lesson, verse, &c., well committed to memory. கனியப்பண்ண, inf. To cause to grow tender--as fruits, or the heart. 2. To pacify, conciliate, win over. கனியப்பழுக்க, inf. To ripen to mellowness. கனியவெந்தஇரும்பு, s. Red-hot iron. கனியவைக்க, inf. To force the ripening of fruits. மனங்கனிய, inf. kḷḷm (p. 101) s. Guile, treachery, deception, imposition, dissimulation, insidiousness, roguery, villany, knavery, turpitude, spuriousness, counterfeitness, perfidy, depravity, வஞ்சகம். 2. Stealing, robbery, fraud, embezzlement, shuffling, tricking, cheating, circumvention, intrigue, களவு. 3. Lying, falsehood, பொய். 4. Fault, crime, guilt, defect, blemish, குற்றம். 5. Morbid matter concealed in a boil, or lodged in the system and causing irritation, புண்ணினுட் கள்ளம். 6. Unlawful, illicit acts, slyness, trickishness, sinister views, under-hand way of doing things, covert, கபடம். கள்ளவெயிலுங்கள்ளமழையும். Alternate rain and sun-shine when neither can be relied on. கள்ளஒப்பம், s. A forged signature. கள்ளக்கடை, s. A shop or bazaar for the reception of stolen goods. கள்ளக்கப்பல், s. False dice, கள்ளச் சூதாடுகருவி. கள்ளக்கவி, s. Flagrant plagiary, சோரகவி. கள்ளக்காசு--கள்ளநாணயம்--கள் ளப்பணம், s. Base or counterfeit coin, செல்லாக்காசு. கள்ளக்காய்பட, inf. To fail as fruits in the process of ripening by smoke. கள்ளக்கிடை, v. noun. Lying deceptively, shamming sickness, sleep, or death, வஞ்சனையாகப்படுத்திருக்கை. கள்ளக்குணம், s. A false, insidious, deceptive disposition, திருட்டுக்குணம். 2. Insidiousness in boils, diseases, &c., deceptiveness, changeableness in weather, wind, the sea, &c., கள்ளத்தோற்றம். 3. A kind of dhoney, sailing to different places from Point Calimere, &c.; this species of boat is so called because formerly employed in robbing the pearl banks. கள்ளநடத்தை, s. Illicit intercourse of the sexes. கள்ளநீர், s. Morbid humor in the body preventing the healing of ulcers, &c., புண்ணில்வடியுநீர். கள்ளநேரம், s. Irregular seasons for doing things, seasons for illicit acts when detection may not occur. 2. A little before daylight, தூங்குநேரம். கள்ளப்பசி, s. Deceptive feelings of hunger. கள்ளப்பாடம், s. Lessons omitted, slipped over, &c., being unlearnt, deceiving the master. கள்ளப்பார்வை, v. noun. Thievish, designing looks. 2. Sly looks of lovers, or libidinous persons, அன்பினானோக்குநோக் கம். கள்ளப்பிள்ளை, s. An illegitimate child, a bastard, சோரத்திற்பெற்றபிள்ளை. கள்ளப்புணர்ச்சி, s. Illicit intercourse of the sexes. கள்ளப்புத்தி, s. Deceitful sagacity, cunning. கள்ளப்புருஷன், s. A paramour, a gallant, சோரநாயகன். கள்ளப்பெண்சாதி--கள்ளஸ்திரி, s. A concubine. கள்ளப்பேச்சு, s. Insincere expressions, false assurances. கள்ளமயிர், s. False hair. கள்ளமயிர்த்தொப்பி, s. A wig. கள்ளமனம், s. Deceitful mind. கள்ளமாடு, s. Cattle that intrude and graze by stealth, a cow or bullock prone to stray, or to be mischievous, திரு ட்டுமாடு. 2. An ox that refuses to work, கரவுள்ளமாடு. 3. Stolen cattle, திருடினமாடு. கள்ளமார்க்கம், s. False religion. 2. A sally port. கள்ளமுத்திரை, s. A false stamp, திருட்டுமுத்திரை. கள்ளம்பண்ண, inf. To be idle in work, to be dull, slow, &c.--as a beast in the absence of the whip. 2. To play truant. 3. To work deceptively, to use alloy, cheat, act the rogue, dissemble, sham, pretend. கள்ளவறை, s. A concealed room which no one would suspect, பிறர்காணக் கூடாதஅறை. கள்ளவாசாரம், s. Mock modesty, feigned politeness, திருட்டாசாரம். கள்ளவாயில், s. A trap-door, கள் ளவழி. கள்ளவொழுக்கம், s. Hypocrisy, dissimulation, திருட்டுநடத்தை. கள்ளன், s. (plu. கள்ளர், fem. கள் ளி.) Thief, robber, rogue, vagabond, villain, knave, criminal, felon, depredator, திருடன். 2. One of the Kallar tribe, கள்ளச்சாதியான். கள்ளர்பற்று, s. The district of the Kallars. வேசிக்கள்ளர், s. Whore-mongers. ஆசாரக்கள்ளர், s. Persons insincere, incomplaisant. 2. Hypocrites in religion. திருநீறுகுழைக்குங்கள்ளர். Those who put on appearances of piety. கும்பிடுகள்ளர்--தொழுகள்ளர், s. Hypocrites, those insincere in religion, or in courtesy. அழுகள்ளர், s. Weeping rogues, dissimulators, impostors. மாசாலக்கள்ளி, s. A dissimulating, unfaithful woman. 9)

kāy (p. 104) s. Unripe fruits, fruits, that do not grow mellow by ripening--as grains, nuts, &c., கனிக்காய். 2. (c.) A callous tumour, an excrescence, a wart, a corn, a cicatrice from a wound, காய்ப்பு. 3. An unripe boil, &c., காய்ப்பரு. 4. A piece at chess, a die, சொக்கட்டான்காய். கட்டியின்னங்காயாயிருக்கிறது. The tumour is not yet ripe. காயவியல், s. A curry carelessly prepared with unripe fruits. காய்கறி, s. Fruits, vegetables and the like for preparing curry. காய்காய்க்க, inf. To form as a fruit; to produce fruit, to bear fruit. காய்காய்க்கிறமரம், s. A tree that bears fruit, not a barren tree. காய்க்கடுக்கன், s. [prov.] An ear-ring with a sacred seed fastened in it, for a bead, from which, if water fall on the body, in bathing, &c., it is deemed very meritorious, உருத்திராட்டக்கடுக்கன். காய்க்குலை, s. A bunch of unripe fruits. காய்ச்சீர், s. [in prosody.] Any of the four metrical feet ending in காய்காய்; also, a metrical foot equivalent in measure to a foot in காய். See சீர். காய்த்தானியம், s. The nine kinds of grains, called முதிரை, நவதானியம். 2. A shrub, கம்பளிகொண்டான், Morus Indica. காய்பறிக்க, inf. To pluck unripe fruits. காய்மடி, s. The thick, hard udder of a cow unfit for milk. காய்மடை, s. [prov.] An offering of fruits, commonly to a ferocious deity, கனிவர்க்கநிவேதனம். காய்ம்பனை, s. [prov.] A fruit-bearing palmyra tree, as distinguished from young trees and males, காய்க்கும்பனை. காய்வள்ளி, s. See வள்ளி. காய்வெட்டிக்கள், s. [prov]. Toddy from a Palmyra tree, the young fruits of which are cut off that the juice may flow from the stalk, காயைவெட்டி இறக்குங்கள். கருக்காய், s. Grain almost ripe. கருங்காய், s. Dark betel-nuts, not yet turned red. செங்காய், s. Fruits or grain turning yellow when ripening. பசுங்காய்--இளங்காய், s. Fruits just formed, tender grain. 2. immature fruit or grain. 90)

cattinipātam (p. 159) s. [in the agamas.] The degree of spiritual advancement in which there is an utter mortification of self, and self-energizing principles, and a ripening of the soul for union with the deity; [ex சத்தி, self energy, et நிபாதம், prostration.] சத்திநிபாதர், s. Those in whom self will is subdued, and who tend toward the deity, மனதையடக்கித் தெய்வம்வழிபடுவோர். 60) *

cāy (p. 178) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், சாய, v. n. To incline or fall towards one side; to lean, to recline, lie down, சரிய. 2. To decline--as a heavenly body from the meridian, or toward the horizon, கிரகஞ்சாய. 3. To repair to, tend toward; crowd together --as a company of men or beasts, to retire, change the course, திரளாகச்செல்ல. 4. To be routed, to retreat, to flee as a discomfited army, இரிய. 5. To incline to wards--as the mind, disposition, &c., to be like in quality, color, shape, &c., மனஞ்சாய. 6. To be biased or prejudiced, to be partial, to be warped in judgment, நடுநிலைசாய. 7. To die, perish, சாவ. 8. To incline--as the beam of a balance by a preponderating weight, நிறைதாழ. 9. To decline from a direct course, to diverge, to become oblique, to turn aside, to deviate, ஒதுங்க. 1. To run ashore--as a vessel, கப்பல்கரைசாய. 11. To lean upon, rest against, சார. 12. To fail or come short in a comparison, தளர. 13. To happen, succeed, நடந்தேற. (c.) பொழுதுசாயவா. Come in the afternoon. இது மேற்கே சாய்கிறது. This inclines westward. சாய்ந்துகிட. Lie down. (in contempt.) இதின்மேலேசாயாதே. Don't lean upon it. உன்பிரயாணம்எப்பொழுதுசாயும். When will you set out on your journey? என்காரியஞ்சாயுமா. Shall I succeed in my undertaking? தண்டுஅப்படிச்சாய்ந்துபோயிற்று. The army marched that way. பழத்துக்குச்சாய்ந்துவிட்டது. The fruit has begun to ripen. [prov.] கதிர்சாய--கொம்புசாய, inf. To bend the head, as ripe grain. விளைந்துசாய, inf. To incline toward the ground, as ripening grain. (c.) காரியத்தைச்சாயவிடுதல், v. noun. Leting a matter take its own course, often to the person's loss or injury. கப்பல்சாய்ந்தோடுதல், v. noun. The sailing of a leaning ship. சாயப்பிடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To steer a vessel with the wind. சாயவிட, inf. To let a vessel run before the wind. 2. To let a vessel run ashore. 3. To run a vessel to the left. See ஏறவிட. சாயல், v. noun. Inclination, leaning. சாய்மானம், s. [vul.] A back to lean against, of a chair, couch, &c., சார்வு. 2. Leaning, reclining, inclining, inclination, மனச்சாய்வு. 3. Partiality, preference, favoritism, வாரபட்சம். சாய்கை, v. noun. [in astron.] Inclination. 2. [prov.] As சாகை, which see. சாய்வு, v. noun. Slant, slope, obliquity, சரிவு. 2. Stoical tranquility of mind, extinction of volitional feeling, &c., as attained by the ஞானி. (p.) சித்தசலனம், s. Agitation of mind, perturbation, disgust. See சலனம். சித்தஸ்வாதீனம், s. Command of one's will, self-control. சித்தஞ்செய்ய, inf. To settle, decide, give a final judgement, தீர்மானிக்க. 2. To will, desire; to direct, command; to be pleased, ஆக்கியாபிக்க. 3. To make ready, தயார்பண்ண. (Colloq.) சித்தத்தியாகம்--சித்தநிவர்த்தி, s. [prov.] Renunciation, entire subjection or extinction of the will and of secular purposes, resolves, desires, &c.,--as attained by severe abstract devotion in one ripening for liberation from births; absolute quiescence. See தியாகம். சித்தத்திற்கொள்ள, inf. To will, resolve, purpose, choose, prefer. சித்தந்திரும்ப--சித்தம்வர, inf. To be pleased to do, &c. (c.) சித்தப்பிரமை, s. Aberration of mind, infatuation, fascination, stupefaction, bewilderment, மனமயக்கு. 2. Derangement, madness; [ex பிரமை, stupor.] சித்தமாக, inf. To will, to desire; to purpose, resolve. (c.) சித்தமிரங்க, inf. To condescend, to be pleased, to do a favor, &c. சித்தயோகம், s. [in astrol.] A conjunction of the lunar constellations with the days of the week and of the phases of the moon,-- not deemed very favorable; the twenty-first of the twenty-seven yogas, யோகமிருபத்தேழிலொ ன்று. 2. One of the three யோகம் neither favorable, nor unfavorable. See யோகம். சித்தலயம், s. Extinction of the will and identification of the soul with the Supreme, as obtained by the ascetic; [ex இலயம்.] சித்தவிலாசம், s. Increase of volitions or of yielding to desires after earthly objects--oppo. to சித்தலயம். சாத்திரசித்தம், s. The sentiment or meaning of the shastras. 2. cuvāṉupavam (p. 198) --சுவானுபூதி, s. [in Adwita philosophy.] Self-experience as one of the three means employed by the deity for illuminating the soul and ripening it for bliss (the other two are சுருதி, revelation, and குரு, oral instruction by the guru); [ex சுவ et அனுபவம்.] சுவானுபூதிகம், s. tāṉ (p. 236) The reciprocal pronoun, himself, herself, itself, the genitive being தன்; in composition sometimes தற். 2. One's self. 3. An emphatic or intensive particle, signifying indeed, really, certainly, தேற் றச்சொல்; as அப்படித்தான், it is so. (c.) 4. An expletive, or அசைச்சொல் suffixed to any noun or pronoun of any person, and declined instead of it, as நிலந்தனைக்கொத்தினான், he dug the earth. 5. Personal identity, சுயம். (p.)--Note. According to the Agamas, the soul is the person or being, and the body and mind with their powers and faculties, are merely adventitious; being the fruit of actions, &c. தானேவளர்ந்துதவத்தால்கொடியெடுத்தவன். One who has grown great and become famous of himself through meritorious austerities; often used of one who has risen by the kindness of another, but forgotten his benefactor. தானொருவனுமேதனியாகவந்தான். He only came, he came alone. தான்சாகாமருந்துதின்னலாமா. May any one take medicine to kill himself? தானுள்ளபோதுலோகம். The world is one's while he lives. தானாக்கனியாததுதடிகொண்டடித்தால்கனியுமா. Will a fruit, not ripening of itself, ripen by being beaten with a stick? தானுந்தலைவனும். The soul and God. நீதான். You yourself, you certainly. அவன்றன்னைக்கண்டேன். I saw him. (p.) அவன்றான். He himself; he certainly, truly, really. தானாக, inf. To be absolute, unique, self-existent, independent, தானாயிருக்க; applicable to the deity. 2. To be assimilated, தன்வண்ணமாக. தானாக, [adverbial.] Of his, her, or its own accord; spontaneously, voluntarily. 2. Of or by himself, herself, itself. தானாக்குதல், v. noun. Assimilating a person or thing to one's self, itself, &c., தன்வண்ணமாக்குதல். தானெடுத்துமொழிதல், v. noun. [in works of science.] The adoption of rules, or language, from other authors, one of thirty-two உத்தி. தானேயானவன்--தான்தோன்றி, appel. n. The self-existent, the deity, கடவுள். தான்பிழைக்கப்பார்க்க, inf. To regard or consult one's own safety, to be careful not to betray, involve or jeopardize one's self. 2. To seek one's own interests, livelihood, prosperity. 23)

tīṭcai (p. 242) --தீக்ஷை--தீக்கை, s. Initiation of disciple into the Siva religion by a Guru, who with appropriate ceremonies communicates the appointed mantras; also his introduction to any higher stage or degree in the system; குரூபதேசம். 2. Special means employed by a Guru for the instruction and mental illumination of a disciple; intended for the removal of his sins, and the ripening of his soul for emancipation, ஞானபோதனை. 3. The imparting of spiritual illumination to a soul ripening for absorption; its accumulated stock of merit and demerit--the results of former actions--together with its original மலம்--the source of these actions--being nearly exhausted by the joys and sufferings experienced in its former transmigrations, பக்குவான்மாவைக்க ரையேற்றல். 4. Performance of a course of austerities, விரதநியமம். 5. Performance of vows, சங்கற்பம். W. p. 41. DEEKSHA. --Note. There are seven kinds of தீட்சை. 1. சட்சுதீட்சை, சயனதீட்சை, by the eye or by looking on the disciple for the dispersion of his mental darkness and moral evils, and the communication of spiritual light. 2. பரிசதீட்சை, by the touch, or placing the right hand on the disciple's head, and touching five principle parts of his body, thus conferring on him the virtue of the five lettered incantations. 3. வாக்குத்தீட்சை, வாசகதீட்சை, oral instruction, and illumination. 4. மானசதீட்சை, by the mind or intense interest felt for the disciple, leading to the enlightening of his mind, &c. 5. சாத்திரதீட்சை, நூற்றீட்சை, spiritual illumination by means of the shastras. 6. யோகதீட்சை, பாவனதீட்சை, instruction by example, in character of the silent, motionless ascetic, in the eight postures prescribed. (See யோகம்.) 7. அ வுத்திரிதீட்சை, imparting instruction by symbolic figures, made on the ground, &c. This last is two-fold, ஞானாவுத்திரி, and கிரியாவுத்திரி.--Note. There are two other kinds of தீட்சை; 1. சபீசதீட்சை, instruction that has reference to future rites to make them complete; 2. நிர்ப்பீசதீட்சை, instruction complete in itself. சிவதீட்சை--சைவதீட்சை, 3 The three stated introductory rites of the Saiva system. 1. சமயதீட்சை, the initiatory rite of discipleship. 2. விசேஷதீட்சை, special rite confirming the disciple, after which he eats in private, or unseen by those of lower degree, and his eligible to read, and receive instruction in the Agama mysteries. It is administered only to சைவர், who eat no flesh or fish. 3. நிருவா ணதீட்சை, the highest rite entitling the disciple to perform puja, to sit and eat with his Guru, and to enjoy all the privileges of the system. தீட்சதர், s. (plu.) Persons who have received the initiatory, or any succeeding rite of the Saiva religion, தீட்சைபெற் றோர். 2. The brahmans of சிதம்பரம், formerly said to have been three-thousand, தில்லைமூவாயிரவர். தீட்சதன், s. A disciple who has received the தீட்சை. தீட்சைகேட்க--தீட்சைபெற, inf. To receive தீட்சை of the guru. தீட்சைகொடுக்க--தீட்சைபண்ண--தீட் சைவைக்க, inf. To administer தீட்சை. தீட்சைபெற்றவன், appel. n. (neg. தீட் சையில்லாதவன்.) One who has received தீட்சை, to whom the secrets of religion may be communicated. 16)

State, condition, நிலை.--Of நீர், water, are இளநீர், உமிநீர், கண்ணீர், குடிநீர், குளி நீர், சிறுநீர், செந்நீர், செயநீர், சேற்றுநீர், தண் ணீர், வெந்நீர், &c., which see in their places. நீரையடித்தால்நீர்விலகாது. If water be beaten it will not divide; i. e. relations, though offended with each other, will reunite. நீர்முகத்தழுக்கில்லை. Waving lighted, sacrificial grass around ghee, and casting it into the sacred fire; (some give other definitions), சுத்திக ரிக்குமோர்சடங்கு. நீராடல், v. noun. Bathing, playing in water, ஸ்தானஞ்செய்தல். 2. A ripening cocoa-nut in which the water sounds when shaken; also நீராடற்றேங்காய். 3. One of the ten parts of juvenile poetry of the female class.
