aṭu (p. 8) கிறேன், அட்டேன், வேன், அட, v. a. To cook, dress food, boil, roast, fry, &c., தீயிற்பாகமாக்க. 2. To destroy, kill, கொல்ல. 3. To conquer, subdue, subject, suppress as the passions, senses, &c., மேற் கொள்ள. (கு. 14. 3.) (p.) அடுகளம், s. Field of battle, போர் க்களம்; ex களம், area. அட்டாலும்பால்சுவையிற்குன்றாது. kiṭukkṭṭi (p. 109) s. [prov.] An accompanying smaller drum, beaten occasionally in the course of the tune, ஓர்பறை. 2. Cake of the olive-tree flower mixed with seasoning ingredients, and then roasted and beaten in a mortar, இருப்பைப்பூவில் இடித்தகட்டி. கிடுக்கட்டிபோலே. Like as கிடுக்கட்டி--as an idle or inactive associate;--a thing of secondary importance;--a thing merely circumstantial. 13)

cuṭu (p. 193) கிறேன், சுட்டேன், வேன், சுட, v. a. To warm, heat, scald, burn, ignite, தகிக்க. 2. To roast, toast, bake, அப்பமுதலியனசுட. 3. To cauterize, brand, scar, சூட்டுக்கோலாற்சுட. 4. To sublimate medicines, நீற்ற. அவனைச்சுட்டுப்போட்டான். He has shot him. நல்லோரைத்தீயோர்சொற்சுடுகிறது. The conversation of the wicked gives pain to (burns) the good. நாவினாற்சுட்டவடு. The wound produced by caustic language. (குற.) சுடுகலம், s. An earthen vessel, குயக் கலம். (சது.) சுடுகண், s. A fiery eye. See கொள் ளிக்கண். சுடுகாடு--சுடுநிலம், s. A place of cremation. 2. (fig.) A desert, a place where victuals cannot be got. (c.) சுடுகாட்டுமணிபொறுக்கி, s. A bird. See under காடு. சுடுகோல், s. A rod for stirring the fire in burning a corpse. 2. A brand, an iron rod, சூட்டுக்கோல். சுடுசுண்ணம், s. Burnt lime. சுடுமருந்து, s. A chemical preparation, more commonly, எரிமருந்து. சுடுவனம், s. A place for cremation. சுடுகாடு. சுட்டுக்கொட்டைப்பரப்ப, inf. To devastate a town, and sow ot with seed. (Colloq.) சுட்டசாந்து, s. As சுடுசுண்ணம். சுட்டெரிக்க, inf. To consume by burning. சுட்டசெங்கல், s. Burnt bricks, opposite to பச்சைச்செங்கல். sun-burnt-bricks. சுட்டவிறைச்சி, s. See இறைச்சி. பழுக்கச்சுட, inf. To give a bright yellow color to gold ornaments, by immersing them in a boiling solution of sulphur, saltpetre, culinary salt, and turmeric. See பழு. v. சாடுவெட்டிச்சுட, inf. To clear and burn forest land. நாவிலேசுட, inf. To brand the tongue in restoring one to caste. நாவாலேசுட, inf. To blight with the tongue, &c. சுட்டுப்போட, inf. To consume by fire; to shoot; to blight. பிள்ளையைக்கண்ணாற்சுட்டுப் போட்டார்கள்.... They have blighted (lit. burnt) the child, with their eyes; incduced sickness. விரகங்கொண்டவரைச்சந்திரன்சுடுகிறது. The moon's rays inflame the lascivious. அவன் ஊரைச்சுட்டுப்போடுவான். He will burn the country, i. e. devastate it, &c. 31)

curuḷu (p. 196) --சுருள், கிறது, சுருண்டது, சுரு ளும், சுருள, v. n. To become coiled, roll into itself, or be rolled--as a snake, rope, scroll; to crul, curve, சுருளாக. 2. To shrivel --as a leaf, மடங்க. (c.) சுருண்டமயிர், s. Curled hair. சுருண்டுபோக, inf. To be rolled up, to roll up. 2. To shrink and curl, shrivel up--as meat roasting, any thing drying in the sun, burning, &c., காய்ந் துசுருங்க. 3. To wither, droop, faint-as a person by a scorching sun, by hunger or disease, சோர்ந்துபோக. 4. To be reduced in circumstances, to have pride reduced, பலங்குன்ற. (c.) சுருண்டுவிழ--சுருண்டுகிடக்க, inf. Before a nasal பல் becomes பன், as பன்னுனி, the tip of a tooth. பல்லரணை--பல்லரனை, s. A kind of excrescence on the gums, gum-boil, ஓர் நோய். பல்லன், s. [fem. பல்லி.] A man with long or large teeth. பல்லிடுக்கு, s. Partings between the teeth, in reference to food sticking in them. பல்லுகட்ட--பற்கட்ட, inf. To fasten teeth [with gold] 2. To make and place [artificial] teeth. பல்லுகிட்டல்--பற்கிட்டல், v. noun. Chattering of the teeth from cold. 2 Closing together the jaws in convulsions; (lit.) approaching together of the teeth. பல்லுக்காட்ட--பல்லைக்காட்ட--பற்கா ட்ட, inf. To grin from meanness or want of good manners. 2. To cringe, beg meanly, ask pardon in a cringing manner. 3. To laugh irreverently. பல்லுக்குச்சி, s. As பற்குச்சி. பல்லுக்குத்த--பற்குத்த, inf. To ache in the teeth. 2. To pick the teeth. பல்லுக்குப்பதப்பட்டது, appel. n. Delicate food; also used in contempt. பல்லுக்கெஞ்ச--பல்லைக்கெஞ்ச, inf. As பல்லுக்காட்ட, 2. பல்லுக்கொழுக்கட்டை, s. A kind of pastry covered with roasted pulse or rice in imitation of teeth, made on the appearance of the child's first tooth. பல்லுக்கொறிக்க, inf. To grind the teeth together. பல்லுதிரஅடிக்க, inf. To strike out one's tooth or teeth by a blow. பல்லுத்தீட்ட--பல்லுத்தீற்ற, inf. To clean the teeth,தந்தசுத்திசெய்ய. 2. [prov.] To abuse one. பல்லுநோவு, s. The tooth-ache. பல்லுப்பட, inf. Supposed distress of the teeth of a snake or beast. See உளைவு. பல்லுவிளக்க, inf. To clean the teeth. பல்லூத்தை, s. Uncleanness of the teeth. பல்லையிளிக்க, inf. To show the teeth in grinning. பற்கடிக்க, inf. To gnash the teeth in grinning. பற்கடிக்க, inf. To gnash the teeth. பற்கறை, s. [improp. பக்கறை.] Tartar, or artificial blackness of the teeth. பற்காவி--பற்காறை, s. A kind of black ochre, or composition of betel, &c., used to strengthen and color the teeth.
