kṭukṭu (p. 87) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. [intens. of கடுத்தல்.] To show signs of anger by sour looks, harsh words, &c., சினக்குறிப் புக்காட்ட. 2. To speak harshly, கோபமாகப் பேச. 3. To throb--as the flesh after the bite of a scorpion, the sting of a venomous insect, or the severe prick of a thorn, &c., விருவிருக்க. 5. To be highly seasoned, உறைக்க. கறிகடுகடுத்துப்போயிற்று. The curry is too highly seasoned; i. e. too salt, too acid, &c., the taste being unpleasant. கடுகடுத்தமுகம், s. An angry, austere countenance. கடுகடுத்துப்பேச, inf. To be shed or cast out, to fall, சிந்த. கொட்டினாற்றேள் கொட்டாவிட்டாற்பிள்ளைப்பூச்சி. If it sting, it is a scorpion; if not, it is a harmless gryllus; i. e. we call things good or bad according to their effect on us. கொட்டிக்கொட்டியளக்க, inf. To cast down and measure again and again; i. e. again, one marcal will not make two. கொட்டிகொட்டியளந்தாலுங்குறுணிபத்தாகாது. Though you measure over and over again, one marcal will not make two. கரப்பன்அள்ளிக்கொட்டிப்போட்டது. An eurption has broken out all over the body. பனிகொட்டுகிறது. The dew falls heavily. கொட்டிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To pour out and give, to give to excess, to lavish, to squander. 2. (fig.) To make a display of words, to say more than is proper. சப்பாணிகொட்ட, inf. To clap hands --as infants in play. See சப்பாணி. கொட்டு, v. noun. Beating, drumming, malleating, &c. See கொட்டு, v. கொட்டுக்கன்னார், s. Braziers who work by beating, not casting. கொட்டுக்காரர், s. [prov.] Drummers--as a caste. கொட்டுக்கிடாரம், s. A large brass boiler made by beating. கொட்டுக்கூடை, s. A metal vessel. 2. A cup-shaped basket. கொட்டுண்ண, inf. To be shed, as leaves, fruits, &c.; to be shot out; to be spilt--as sand, flour, &c. கொட்டுமுழக்கு, v. noun. Beating of drums; an exhibition of drumming. கொட்டுமுறி, s. A superior kind of brass. கொட்டுமண், s. Earth thrown down to improve land, repair a road, &c.; made soil [in opp. to நிலைமண்.] கொட்டுமரம், s. koḷḷi (p. 147) --கொள்ளிக்கட்டை, s. A fire-brand, நெருப்புவிறகு. கொள்ளிக்கெதிர்போனாலும், வெள்ளிக்கெதிர்போக லாகாது. You may oppose yourself to a fire-brand, but not to the planet Venus --said in reference to going East-ward when Venus is the morning star or Westward when it is the evening star. குடியிருந்தவீட்டிலேகொள்ளிவைக்கிறவன். An incendiary who sets fire to a house where he has received hospitality, i. e., one who returns evil for good. கொள்ளிகுடம்--கொள்ளியுங்குடமும், s. The fire-brand and water-pot which are carried by the chief mourner three times round the funeral pile previous to its being ignited. கொள்ளிக்கண்ணன், s. A fierce-eyed man. 2. One whose looks are blighting. 3. [prov.] A horse or bull with red eyes, deemed ominous. கொள்ளிக்கரப்பன், s. A kind of blain in children resembling scars from burning. See கரப்பன். கொள்ளிக்காற்குதிரை, s. [prov.] A horse with one white leg. கொள்ளிக்கொட்டான்--கொள்ளியெ றும்பு--கொள்ளிவாலெறும்பு--கொள்ளிவாயெறும்பு, s. An ant that stings. See எறும்பு. கொள்ளிசொருகுதல், v. noun. [prov.] To insert a brand in the roof of a house --as an incendiary. 2. To cause or bring about another's ruin. கொள்ளித்தேள், s. [prov.] A scorpion whose sting is very severe, ஓர்தேள். கொள்ளிவட்டம், s. A circle described in the air with a fire-brand by boys in play (p.) கொள்ளிவாய்ச்சர்ப்பம்--கொள்ளிவாய் விரியன், s. A serpent whose bite causes burning smart. கொள்ளிவாய்பிசாசு--கொள்ளிவாய்ப் பேய், s. Ignis fatnus, or jack-with-alantern, (lit.) a fire-mounthed-devil. கொள்ளிவாலி, s. [prov.] A cow or dog with the body black and tail white. கொள்ளிவைத்தல், v. noun. Setting fire in general. 2. Lighting the funeral pile,--as done by the chiefmourner. 3. Injuring or ruining a person, a family, &c. கொள்ளிவைத்துக்குடமுடைத்தல், v. noun Setting fire to the funeral pile and breaking a pot full of water, a funeral ceremony. 17)

Conical pieces in the play of chess or ticklack, சூதாடுகருவி.--Of நாய், there are கடல்நாய், a seal; மரநாய், palmyra dog; நீர்நாய், மீனாய், a beaver; செந்நாய், a wild dog, கோ ணாய் or கோநாய், a wolf, (c.) நாயும்பேயுங்கொண்டுபோகின்றன. Dogs and devils (strangers) carry it away. நாய்க்குமுழுத்தேங்காய்தக்குமா. Of what use to the dog is an unbroken cocoanut? நாய்வேஷம்போட்டால்குலைத்தேதீரவேணும். If one disguise himsel as a dog he should bark. நாயரஞ்சி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாயாட்டம், Dog-like, mean, servile. நாயீ, s. A dog fly; [ex இ. நாயுணி, s. A kind of tick. நாயும்புலியும், s. A kind of play, with seeds, stones, &c., in squares. நாயுருவி, s. [sometimes நாய்குருவி.] A kind of plant, Achyranthes aspera, L. which forms one of the nine kinds of sacrificial fuel. See சமித்து.-- The root is used as a dentifrice, and from the skin of the root, a decoction is made as an aperient for infants. The leaves are bruised and applied to scorpion bites as a specific; [ex உருவி, penetrating as a biting dog.] There are two kinds, செந் நாயுருவி, the red, and வெண்ணாயுருவி, the white, which see. நாயுறக்கம், s. Very slight sleep, as of a dog. நாயோட்டம், s. A dog's pace, spoken of a horse, dhoney, &c. நாய்குருவி, s. As நாயுருவி. (R.) நாய்க்கடி, s. Bite of a dog. நாய்கடிபூனைக்கடிபடுகிறார்கள். They are snaring like cats and dogs. நாய்க்கடுகு, s. A small plant like mustard, as நாய்வேளை. நாய்க்குட்டி, s. A young dog, a puppy. நாய்க்குணம்--நாய்த்தனம், s. Doggedness. See குணம். நாய்க்கோலம், s. (R.) நாய்ப்புடுக்கன், s. A large tree, Cynometra cauliflora, ஓர்மரம். நாய்ப்புடோல், s. A plant, ஓர்செடி. நாய்முகன், s. One who has a face like a dog. See நாய்மூஞ்சி. நாய்முருகை, s. [prov.] A kind of coral stone, ஓர்முருகைக்கல். நாய்முள்ளி, s. A thorny plant, Solanum, Ind. நாய்மூஞ்சி, s. The face of a dog. 2. As நாய்முகன். நாய்விட்டைக்கல், s.
