The right hand of a deity, idol or great person raised in token of dispelling fear and in assurance of protection, பயந்தீரவமைக்குங்கை. அபயங்கொடுக்க--அபயஸ்தங்கொ டுக்க, inf. To dispel fear, cheer, encourage, dispel fear by raising the hand or otherwise, to give assurance of protection. See கொடு, v. அபயமிட, inf. To call for succor, cry for protection, appeal as in a suit. otukku (p. 82) s. Shelter, screen, defence, refuge, covering. மறைவு. 2. A retreat, recess, place of refuge or shelter, a secluded or retired place, a hiding place, மறைவிடம். உம்முடைய ஒதுக்கிலே வந்தேன். I am come under your protection, I take refuge with you. ஒதுக்கிடம், s. A retreat, a shelter, a place of retirement, &c., புகலிடம். ஒதுக்குக்கடல், s. A harbor, கு டாக்கடல். ஒதுக்குக்குடில், s. Hut or hovel used as a dwelling. ஒதுக்குப்படல், s. A shed to screen cattle from the wind. ஒதுக்குப்பாடு, s. [prov.] Land enclosed by trees which, not being open to the wind, is liable to have the crops on it scorched and destroyed by the sun. See பாடு. ஒதுக்குப்புறம், s. [also impr. ஒதுப் புறம்.] The side of a building, hedge, tree, &c., as affording shelter from wind or rain. ஒதுக்குப்பொதுக்குப்பண்ண, inf. [prov.] To embezzle. 2. To conceal property by omitting to insert it in the inventory of a person sued for debt. ஒதுக்குவயல், s. A sequestered place in a paddy field behind the lodging hut for penning cattle, &c. நிலொதுக்கு, s. A shady place to resort to. 4)

To cause to recede or retire, to take or put on one side or out of the way, as the hair--as cattle, &c., meeting one in the road, to drift floating or other bodies to the shore, to push into a corner, to one side, to a hedge, &c.--as dry leaves, &c., to shove away, ஒதுங்கச்செய்ய. 2. To take under shelter as a protege or one needing aid, to protect, to shelter as a bird its young. to brood, சேர்க்க. 3. To gather or tuck up the clothes--as in pass ing through a river, &c., வஸ்திரத்தையொ துக்க. 4. They have settled the affair amicably without going to law. கோழிகுஞ்சுகளைச்செட்டைகளுக்குள்ளொதுக்குகின் றது. The hen protects its chickens under its wings. காற்றொதுக்கிக்கொண்டுபோயிற்று. The wind has drifted or driven it away to a corner, a hedge, the shore, &c. ஒதுக்கிப்போட, inf. To settle. ஆடுமாடொதுக்க, inf. To take cattle to shelter from rain. 2. To separate flocks of cattle which have been feeding. மயிரையொதுக்க, inf. To adjust the hair with the hand, smoothing it back, out of the way. 2. To shave the margin of the hair. புடவையொதுக்க, inf. To tuck or gather up the clothes. ஆள்களையொதுக்க, inf. [in com. usage.] To kill people. 2. To impoverish. பொருளையொதுக்க, inf. To subside, recede, retreat, retire--as for shelter, drift ashore, to a hedge or wall on one side, &c., to be put into a corner, on one side, to pass one side-ways, with marks of respect, &c., பதுங்க. 2. Place of retreat, shelter, resort, ஒதுங்குமிடம். ஒதுங்கிநடக்க, inf. To pass sideways as an act of reverence, or as one of the inferior castes. 2. To keep out of the way of an evil person, a wild beast, &c. ஒதுங்கிப்போக, inf. To get out of the way of a person. ஒதுங்கிவர, inf. To turn in. ஒதுக்கம், v. noun. Seclusion, sequestration, separation, ஒதுங்கியிருக்கை. 2. Walking, gait, நடை. 3. Crouching, stooping, humbling one's self, பதுங்குகை. 4. kāṟṟu (p. 107) s. Wind, a breeze, the air, atmosphere, வாயு. 2. The wind that passes downward, அபானவாயு. 3. The fifteenth lunar asterism, or nacshatra, சோதிநட்சத் திரம். 4. A ghost, an apparition, a spectre, an evil spirit.--Note. This word is from the third person neut. sing. of a symbolic verb from கால், air. காற்றுள்ளபோதே தூற்று. Winnow while the wind blows; i.e. attend to a thing at a favorable time. காற்றசைகிறது, The wind moves (after a lull). காற்றடங்கிற்று--காற்றமர்ந்தது. Fire, lit. the helper of wind; that which invites wind for winnowing, as a fire. காற்றுக்கழிய--காற்றுப்பறிய, inf. To break wind. காற்றுக்காலம், s. The windy season. காற்றுக்கிளம்பிற்று. The wind has sprung up or risen. காற்றுக்கிளம்பவில்லை. No wind rises. காற்றுக்குமறைவிடம். A shelter from the wind. காற்றுச்சங்கை, s. Possession by a demon. காற்றுத்திரும்பிவிட்டுது--மாறிவிட்டுது. Random, chance, கண்டபாடு. காற்றுவீசுகின்றது, The wind blows. காற்றெழும்புகிறது. The wind rises. காற்றொதுக்கு, s. A shelter from the wind, காற்றடைப்பு. காற்றோட்டி, s. A kind of shrub yielding bitter fruit of an unpleasant smell, said to expel flatulency. It is fried and eaten on some fasts as a mode of selfmortification, ஓர்முட்செடி, Obtuse-leaved hibiscus. இளங்காற்று, s. A gentle breeze. ஊதைக்காற்று--பனிக்காற்று, s. A cold wind, in the dewy season. எதிர்காற்று--எதிர்க்காற்று, s. A contrary wind. கீழ்காற்று, s. East wind. குளிர்காற்று, s. A cold wind. சிறுகாற்று, s. A gentle wind. சுழல்காற்று--சூறைக்காற்று, s. A whirlwind. சுழிக்காற்று, s. A whirl-wind, limited to a small space, and tearing up trees, &c., that stand in its way. தீக்காற்று, s. A scorching, blasting wind. தென்காற்று, s. South wind. நச்சுக்காற்று, s. A noxious air, miasma --as in time of epidemics. நல்லகாற்று, s. A favorable wind. பெருங்காற்று, s. A strong or violent wind. மேல்காற்று, s. West wind. வடகாற்று, s.
