kuẕai (p. 129) s. Young leaves, sprouts, foliage, boughs, twigs, தளிர். 2. Soft, well trodden mud; slime, சேறு. 3. Ear-jewels, குண் டலம். 4. (சது.) A tube, துளையுடைப்பொருள். 5. The நெய்தல் plant. மரங்குழைமண்டிப்போயிற்று. The tree abounds with thick foliage. குழைக்காடு, s. [prov.] The country-as distinguished from the city; a jungle, compared with more cultivated parts --as பட்டிக்காடு. குழைக்காட்டான், s. A rustic; a clown. குழைநாற்றம்--குழைவீச்சம், s. An unpleasant, leafy or grassy smell. குழைமறைவு, v. noun. Foliage, shrubbery, trees, &c., intercepting vision. 2. Sculking, &c., from creditors. குழைபிடிக்க, inf. [prov.] To obstruct an affair-from the practice of the Kandians, holding a bough before a person, as a sign of protestation, or of forbidding him to proceed. குழையடிக்க, inf. To recite incantations while shaking and drawing a handful of Margosa twigs over a sick or possessed person or animal, or one bitten by a snake. Mesmeric effects, similar to those occasioned by drawing the fingers in a particular way over the face of a patient, are sometimes produced by the above process, and ignorant people attribute them to the power of the incantations. 2. To vheedle; to use artful means in order to secure the interest of a person. 11)

tūṟu (p. 255) s. Bushes, shrubbery, low jungle; brush-wood, thick underwood, சிறு செடி. 2. Calumny, reprochful rumor, slanderous report, பழிச்சொல். (c.) 3. Assemblage, multitude, கூட்டம். (சது.) ஆறுகொண்டதுபாதிதூறுகொண்டதுபாதி. The river has destroyed half, and the jungle half; said of useless waste. தூறன், s. [prov. vul.] One who is a disgrace to his people, துஷ்டன். 2. A rake, a debauchee, தூர்த்தன். தூறாக்க, inf. To defame, to asperse one's character. தூறாய்ப்போக, inf. To be rumoured abroad. தூறுதலை, s. A rough shaggy head. தூறுதலையன், s. (fem. தூறுதலைச்சி.) A person with shaggy hair. தூறுபட, inf. To spread, as a rumor, பரவ. 2. To become bushy, சடைபற்ற. 3. To suffer reproach, பழிசொல்லப்பட. தூறுபண்ண, inf. To utter invectives or reproaches, to defame, அவதூறுசெய்ய. தூறுபேச, inf. To slander, asperse. தூறுமாறு, s. [prov.] Bad conduct, a vicious life. தூறுவாயன், s. A slanderer. தூற்றுக்காடு, s. A thicket. See சிறுதூறு.

pyir (p. 296) s. Growing grain, a crop, herbage, shrubbery, பைங்கூழ். 2. Any useful vegetable, plant, or even tree. (c.)--The different stages of growing corn, are ஏறினபயிர், grown up corn; கதிர்ப்பயிர், corn just earing; களைபறிபயிர், that which requires to be weeded; பாற்கட்டுப்பயிர், ear being milky; நடவுபயிர். corn transplanted; முதுபயிர், ripe grain; there are also நஞ்சைப்பயிர், புஞ்சைப் பயிர், கீழ்ப்பயிர், மேற்பயிர், சிறுபயிர், &c. பயிரடித்தல்--பயிருழவு, v. noun. Ploughing between standing corn, to promote its growth. பயிரழிவு, v. noun. Waste or destruction of vegetation, by beasts flood, &c. பயிராகுதல், v. noun. Growing up as plants, herbage, &c. 2. Being pregnant as animals, as பலப்படுதல். இந்தமாடுபயிராகியிருக்கிறது. This cow is big with calf. பயிராக்க--பயிர்செய்ய, inf. To cultivate corn, trees, plants, herbage, &c. பயிரேற, inf. To thrive as vegetation. பயிர்க்குடி--பயிரிடுங்குடி, s. A peasant. See குடி. பயிர்தீக்குங்காற்று, s. A wind that blasts the growing crops. பயிர்த்தொழில், s. [com. வேளாண்மைத் தொழில்.] Husbandry, agriculture. பயிர்நெருக்கம், v. noun. Closeness of corn, herbage; luxuriant growth. பயிர்ப்பங்கு, s. Share of the produce of trees appropriated to the cultivator. பயிர்வழி, s. Cultivated fields. 2. Way through the fields. பயிர்வழிமாசூல்பாக்கி. Arrears of the revenue of the field. பயிர்வெளி, s.
