iḷku (p. 55) கிறது, இளகினது, ம், இளக, v. n. [prov.] To relax, abate, become pliable, flexible, to lessen in intensity or severity--as wind, rain, sun-shine, fever, &c., தணிய. 2. To become tender, indulgent, mild, yielding, placable, to relax in ardor, application, &c., நெகிழ. 3. To grow moist --as goods, &c. in rainy weather, to soften--as heated iron or other metals, to dissolve a little, be reduced in hardness, &c., to deliquesce, soak through--as tiles, கரைய. 4. To become relaxed--as a bowstring, to become loose--as screws, &c., தளர. இளகாதவன், s. A hard-hearted, inexorable person. இளகிக்காண, inf. To become limber, soft, loose, pliant, lubricous, &c., நெகிழ. 2. To appear less strict, rigid, &c.--as the mind; to become less tense. இளகினபொன், s. Soft or pure gold that easily melts, &c., the prefix is alike applicable to other metals. இளகினமனசு, s. A feeling, kind heart. 49)

ūṟu (p. 71) கிறது, ஊறினது, ம், ஊற, v. a. To spring, flow as water in a well, to issue, நீரூற. 2. To soak, to be steeped, pickled, காய்முதலியவூற. 3. To ooze through, percolate, filter, distil, கசிய. 4. To run or spread--as ink in paper, as dampness in land around a spring; to become moist, மைமுதலியவூற. 5. To form, become collected--as milk in the breast, toddy in palm flowers, &c., பால்முதலியனசுரக்க. 6. To form as raw flesh in a sore, to heal, காயத்திலூன்வளர. 7. To increase--as flesh in a person who has been wasted by disease, to increase by slow degrees, மெலி ந்தவுடல்தேற. (c.) தொட்டளைத்தூறுமணற்கேணிமாந்தர்க்குக் கற்றனைத் தூறுமறிவு. The more you dig in a sandy soil the more does the water spring forth; so the more you apply to science the more your knowledge will increase. கற்கவூறுங்கலைஞானம். By learning, knowledge is increased. இறைத்தகிணறூறும்இறையாக்கிணறூறாது. Water issues from the springs of a well constantly drawn, but from one not drawn, it ceases to do so; i. e. the more one gives, the more will be given to him. ஊறணி, s. A fountain, a spring of water, ஊற்று. 2. [prov.] Good, moist land where water oozes out, கசிவுநிலம். 3. Wet, marshy, or brackish lands, சேற்று நிலம். 4. Income, property stored up, வருவாய் (probably a corruption of ஊ றுநீர்). ஊறவூறக்கறக்க, inf. To milk the cow as fast as the milk forms. 2. To obtain money from a person as fast as he gets it. ஊறவைக்க, inf. To steep, pickle, imbue, macerate. ஊறுகாய், s. Pickled fruits, அடை காய். ஊறுநீர், s. Spring-water, ஊற்று நீர். ஊறுபுண், s. A healing wound, ஆறிவரும்புண். தேனூறுமலர், s. The honey forming flower. ஊறல், v. noun. Oozing as from a sore, &c., percolation, discharge, issue, ஊறுகை. 2. s. A small spring, springwater, ஊற்று. 3. A tincture, infusion, &c., மருந்திலூறல். 4. A taint, or faint mixture of another metal, பஞ்சலோகக்கலப்பு. 5. One's income acquisition, property amassed, &c., வருவாய். 6. A slight degree of verdigris, களிம்பு. ஊறற்பாக்கு, s. Betel-put soaked to render it fit for use. ஊறற்றாள், s. Sinking paper.

eḷ (p. 75) s. [vul. எள்ளு.] One of the nine kinds of grain, sesamum, from the seeds of which an oil is extracted, used for food, bathing, &c., திலம். Sesamum orientale. See தானியம் and எண்ணெய்.-Note. The ள் of this word becomes ட் and ண் by permutation. எள்ளத்தனையைமலையத்தனையாக்க. To make a mountain of a sesamum seed, to exaggerate. எள்ளளவு--எள்ளுப்போலே. As much as a sesamum seed, a very little. எள்ளளவுநம்பிக்கையுமில்லை. Utterly unworthy of confidence. 2. Destitute of belief, confidence, &c. எள்ளுக்குளெண்ணெய்போலெங்குநிறைந்தகடவுள். God who pervades the universe, as oil the sesamum seed. எட்கடை--எட்கிடை--எட்பிரமா ணம். As much as a sesamum seed, எள்ள ளவு. 2. A standard of measure in regard to space, ஓரளவு--eight எள் make a நெல் or grain or rice; eight grains of rice one அங்குலம், an inch, &c. எட்பாகு, s. A kind of porridge made of sesamum seed, எள்ளுப்பாகு. எண்ணெய், s. [impr. எண்ணை.] Rape-seed oil. 2. (fig.) A common name for oils of all kinds. எண்ணெயூற்ற, inf. To express oil, எண்ணெய்வடிக்க. எண்ணெயெரிக்க, inf. To prepare medicinal oils by burning, in which the drugs are rolled up in a bit of cloth which is dipped in oil and set on fire; the oil which drops from it is used as a medicine, தைலமெரிக்க. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பு, s. The color of rape-seed oil, or dark brown. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பி, s. A female whose skin resembles rape-seed oil, not so much in regard to its color as its soft and beautiful appearance. எண்ணெய்க்காப்பு, s. Oil for bathing an idol, எண்ணெயபிஷேகம். எண்ணெய்க்காரன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். எண்ணெய்ச்சாணை, s. A hone prepared for use by oiling. எண்ணெய்ச்சாயம், s. Oil paint, எண்ணெயாற்செய்யப்பட்டசாயம். 2. Dyeing a cloth red after soaking it in margosa oil, எண்ணெயிற்றோய்த்தேற்றப்பட்டசாயம். எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு, s. Indigestion produced by eating oily food, எண்ணெய் வயிற்றிற்றங்குகை. 2. A clotted state of the hair from the oil not being well washed out, எண்ணெய்மயிரில்விடாமை. 3. A bad smell--as of oil, எண்ணெய்நாற்றம். எண்ணெய்ச்சீலை, s. Cloth dipped in oil to be applied to wounds, எண் ணெய்த்துணி. 2. A piece of cloth put round the waist before bathing, எண் ணெய்க்கோவணம். எண்ணெய்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil. எண்ணெய்தொட்டுப்பொட்டுவைக் க. inf. To dip the finger in oil before bathing dropping seven drops on the floor for the சிரஞ்சிவியர், who are supposed in consequence to grant long life. எண்ணெய்பிறக்க, inf. To form as oil by boiling. எண்ணெய்பூச, inf. To oil, anoint, besmear with oil. எண்ணெய்பொருத்த, inf. To put medical oil on the head or other parts of the body, and to rub it in, மருந்தெண் ணெய்பூச. எண்ணெய்ப்பற்று, s. Adherence of oil or unctuous matter to the bowels, hair, clothes, &c., oil, greasy substance in food--as in fish or on the dress from cooking, எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. எண்ணெய்வழுக்கு, v. noun. Being greasy--as oil, &c., எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. 2. Shining, sleek, glossy, bright, எண்ணெய் மினுக்கு. எண்ணெய்வாணிகன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். ஆமணக்கெண்ணெய், s. Castor oil. தலைக்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil for the head. விளக்கெண்ணெய், s. Lamp oil. புன்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from புன்கம் seeds. சூட்டெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from the residuum of the margosa berry. மருத்தெண்ணெய், s. Medical oil. குருந்தெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from குருந்தம் seeds. இலுப்பெண்ணெய், s. The இலுப் பை oil. வேப்பெண்ணெய், s. Margosa oil. தேங்காயெண்ணெய், s. Cocoanut oil. வடியெண்ணெய், s. Clarified medical oil. கொதியெண்ணெய், s. A species of boiled oil, used for medicinal purposes. புளியெண்ணெய், s. A medical oil. புன்னையெண்ணெய், s. The oil extracted from புன்னை seeds. நல்லெண்ணெய், s. Sesamum oil used for the hair and the skin, &c. மரவெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from wood. தெளிவெண்ணெய், s. Clear margosa oil poured off from the sediment. ஊற்றெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted by pressing or pounding the seeds. மீனெண்ணெய், s. Fish oil. எள்ளுண்டை--எள்ளுருண்டை, s. A pastry made into balls, said to be a very strengthening food, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. எள்ளுந்தண்ணீருமிறைக்க, inf. To pour water to the manes of deceased persons on sesamum seeds and sacrificial grass held in the hand. எள்ளோரை, s. Sesamum and rice boiled and mixed with ghee--one of the சித்திரான்னம். காட்டெள்ளு, s. A kind of sesamum found in uncultivated places. காரெள்ளு, s. The common எள். 2. A distinct species of எள். பேரெள்ளு, s. A large kind of sesamum. கடலெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum. வெள்ளெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum bearing white seed. சிற்றெள்ளு, s. cōṟu (p. 212) s. Boiled rice, சாதம். 2. Apex of the wild pine-apple resembling boiled rice; also a white spongy substance found in the palmyra, wild al&oe; &c, கற்றாழை முதலியவற்றின்சோறு. (c.) 3. The second lunar asterism. See பாணி. சோறுங்கூறையும்கொடுக்க. To give food and raiment. சோற்றாலெடுத்தசுவர். A wall of rice, food, &c., i. e. the body. வயிற்றுச்சோற்றுக்குவேலைசெய்ய. [prov.] To swell or enlarge, as rice in boiling. சோறுவடிக்க, inf. To strain off rice. சோறூட்டல், v. noun. The ceremony of first feeding with rice, performed on an auspicious day. See அன்னப்பிராசனம். சோறூற, inf. [prov.] To be too much soaked, as rice in boiling over insufficient fire. சோற்றகப்பை, s. Ladle for rice, in distinction to that for curry. (c.) சோற்றலகு, s. A wicker strainer for boiled rice. (R.) சோற்றாலாத்தி, s. Boiled rice waved before a person, an idol, a married couple, a great person, &c., to remove the supposed fascination of unlucky eyes. (c.) சோற்றுக்கடன்--சோற்றுதவி, s. Duty or obligation to one for support. சோற்றுக்கத்தளை, s. A kind of fish. See கத்தலை. சோற்றுக்களை, s. Languor after eating. 2. Fainting through want of food. சோற்றுக்கற்றாழை, s. See தாழை. சோற்றுக்காரி, s. A woman who prepares food for one who pays her expenses. (c.) சோற்றுக்குடலை, s. [prov.] See குடலை. சோற்றுக்குவீங்கி, appel. n. A man greedy of food, who will eat any where. சோற்றுக்கூடை, s. A large basket in which rice is served up to a company. சோற்றுக்கை, s. The right hand as used in eating rice, &c.--oppos. to பீச்சைக் கை. (c.) சோற்றுக்கொடை, s. Giving boiled rice as alms to religious mendicants, being the first kind of bounty. சோற்றுச்சட்டி, s. The heading or title of a book. 4. The first or capital letter in a writing. தலையேறுதண்டம், s. [prov.] Punishment above what one is able to bear. 2. (fig.) Excessive trouble or labour; compulsory service, அநியாயதண்டம். தலையைக்கொடுக்க--தலைகொடுக்க, inf. To step forward in one's behalf, in a case of exigency. 2. Water strained from cold rice kept over night for breakfast. நிராசனம்--நீராஞ்சனம், s. [also நிராஞ் சனம்.] Holding a lighted wick in water in which turmeric and lime are dissolved, and margosa leaves placed; and waving it round the idol, ஓர்ஆலாத்தி. 2. Waving lighted, sacrificial grass around ghee, and casting it into the sacred fire; (some give other definitions), சுத்திக ரிக்குமோர்சடங்கு. நீராடல், v. noun. Bathing, playing in water, ஸ்தானஞ்செய்தல். 2. A ripening cocoa-nut in which the water sounds when shaken; also நீராடற்றேங்காய். 3. One of the ten parts of juvenile poetry of the female class.
