A seedy or stony fruit; any fruit the stones or seeds of which are large, or numerous, in proportion to the pulp. கொட்டைக்கச்சி--கொட்டைக்கையில், s. [prov. vul.] The half of a cocoanut shell. To be extinguished, as a fire; to be soothed as an exasperated mind, to be subdued as a mob, to be moderated as a fever; to be lower, &c., in height. பிள்ளையிப்பொழுதுதணிந்திருக்கிறது. The child is now well. தணிந்தவிலை, s. A low price, a reduced price. தணிந்தவேளை, s. The cooler time, as evening. தணிய, inf. (adverbially.) Humbly, submiss'vely, calmly, &c. தணிவு, v. noun. Abatement, mollification, mitigation, alleviation, diminution, தணிப்பு. 2. Calmness, submission, mildness, coolness, softness, சாந்தம், 3. Inferior in quality or performance, குறைவு. 4. There are five degrees of inspissation: 1. குழம்புப்பதம், a thickened state; 2. கடுகுப்பதம், partial fluidity; 3. மந்தபதம், oily consistency; 4. மெழுகுபதம், waxy state; 5. முறுகுபதம், dryness. There are two states of heat in preparing oils, metals, &.c.: காயும்பதம், slight heat, for boiling the juices of plants; 2. வேல்பதம், full heat for melting gold, silver and other metals. பதக்கேடு, v. noun. Past the right stage, over-ripe, over-boiled, decayed, rotten. பதக்கேடானசரீரம். Debility of the system, often through age. பதத்துக்குக்காய்ச்ச--பதமாகக்காய்ச்ச, inf. To heat or boil medical oil, food, &c., to the proper degree. பதத்துக்குவடிக்க--பதத்தில்வடிக்க, inf. To strain a medical oil, &c., at the right stage of boiling. பதநீர், s. [com. பதனி.] Sweet toddy drawn in a pot lined with chunam To prevent fermentation. பதந்தப்ப, inf. To miss or pass the proper stage of boiling rice or medical oil, or in the ripening of fruits. 2. To pass the proper time for doing a thing. எகுபதந்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. The steel is not well tempered. பதபாகம், s. Gentleness, mildness, &c. பதப்பட, inf. [v. noun. பதப்பாடு.] To be seasoned, tempered, fitted, adapted, trained, பக்குவமாக. 2. To grow ripe, பழுக்க. பல்லுக்குப்பதப்பட்டது. It is adapted to the teeth--as well boiled for an old man, &c. பதப்படுத்த, inf. To season, temper, tan, mould, adapt, train. பதமழிவு, v. noun. Over-ripeness. See பதனழிவு. பதமறிய, inf. To know the right stage, temperature or consistency. பதமாயிருக்க, inf. To strain the water from boiled rice that it may be properly dry. பதமெடுக்க--பதம்பிடிக்க, inf. To hit on the right stage, as in boiling rice, oil, &c. பதம்பண்ண, inf. To season, to temper, to mould; to tan. பதம்பாட, inf. To compose a பதம் ode. பதம்பார்க்க, inf. To try the taste, consistency, &c., of boiling rice, to try a fruit, by feeling, smelling, or cutting. &c. 2. To hesitate and not enter on a business promptly. 2. [in burlesq.] To have misgivings, and doubts as to doing a thing for another. 4. To examine the moistness of land, &c., to ascertain its fitness for sowing. 14) *

mel (p. 363) adj. Soft. மெல்ல, adv. [com. மெள்ள.] Slowly, gently. மெல்லணை, s. A soft pillow, or bed, மெத்தை. (p.) மெல்லன், appel. n. The chief of a brackish soil, or of a district near the sea, நெய்தனிலத்தலைவன். மெல்லி, s. A woman, பெண். (p.) மெல்லிக்கை, s. Thinness, ஒஞ்சட்டை. மெல்லிது--மெல்லியது, appel. n. [com. மெல்லிசு.] That which is soft. மெல்லிதாய்நூற்கிறது......Spinning fine threads. மெல்லியநல்லாள், s. A gentlewoman, பெருமாட்டி. (p.) மெல்லியர்--மெல்லியார்--மெல்லிய லார், s. The weak, the emaciated, the delicate, மெலிந்தவர். 2. Women, பெண்கள். மெல்லியல், s. A female, பெண். [pl. மெல்லியலார்.] 2.A tender twig of a tree, இளங்கொம்பு. (சது.) மெல்லியவாழை, s. The soft plantaintree. மெல்லியாள், s. A woman, பெண். (p.) மெல்லியாடோள்சேர். Live with thine own wife. (Avv.) மெல்லினம், s. The class of soft, or nasal consonants, ங், ஞ், ண், ந், ம், ன். மெல்லினவெதுகை, s. One of the இன வெதுகை, in which the second letter of each line is any of the soft consonants. மெல்லெழுத்து, s. A soft or liquid consonant. மெல்லென, inf. To be soft, gentle; used adverbially. மெல்லெனப்பாயுந் தண்ணீர்கல்லையுங்குழியப்பா யும். The water which flows gently will excavate a stone. மென்கணம், s. The soft letters, as மெல்லினம். (p.) மென்சொல், s. A soft or kind word. மென்பால், s. Fertile and cultivated ground; [ex பால், place.] மென்மை, s. Fineness, softness, thinness. See ஊறு. 2. (p.)
