iṭṟu (p. 45) கிறேன், இடறினேன், வேன், இடற, v. a. To kick off or away, to sever or strike off a head, a limb, &c., with the foot, a bent bow, &c., பெயர்க்க. 2. v. n. To stumble, trip, strike the foot against, தடக்க. இடறொட்டமெனநெடியவரையுருட்டி. Rolling the towering mountains, as one might dash to pieces a pot-sherd with his feet. (இராமா.) கரடியிடறிவிளையாடுஞ்சுரம். The forest where the bear plays, knocking about (the fruits, &c.) with his feet. பரிகாரர்தலையிடறி. (An elephant) striking off the heads of horsemen. (பெரியபுராணம்.) காலிடறிவிழுந்தான். He stumbled and fell. பகைவரின்தலையையானையின்காலினாலிடறுவித்தான். He caused the heads of the enemies to be struck off, with the foot of an elephant. இடறுகட்டை, s. A stumbling block, hinderance, an obstruction. இடறல், v. noun. Stumbling, tripping. 2. Offence, scandal. இடறற்பட, inf. To take offence, to be offended, be hindered. 76)

tṭvu (p. 221) கிறேன், தடவினேன், வேன், தடவ, v. a. and v. n. To stroke, embrace, fondle, to soothe, by patting or stroking, தடவர. 2. To grope, to feel one's way with the hands or feet as in the dark, to feel about, தெரியாமற்தடவ. 3. To anoint--as with liniment, to smear softly, to spread on lightly, எண்ணெய்முதலியதடவ. 4. To bedaub, besmear; to dirty, பூச. 5. To play on a lute with a bow, வீணைவாசிக்க. 6. To measure out very scantily, to strike off the measure too closely, முகந்தளந்துதடவ. 7. (fig.) To act, execute, or perform very slowly, மெதுவாகச்செய்ய. (c.) 8. [prov.] To make very thin pan-cakes, &c., பண்ணி காரந்தடவ. 9. (fig.) To wave in the air, as tops or branches of trees, or banners, as if feeling around, நுனியசைய,--Note. Stroking the back shows affection; the feet, submission; the face or chin, pity, affection, or supplication. தடவக்கொடுக்க, inf. to let one stroke the back. 2. [prov.] To yield too much, to be too submissive. தடவிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To stroke a person, beast, &c. 2. To give short measure. இருந்துதடவ, inf. To sit groping; from great age, blindness, &c. தடவிக்கொண்டுதிரிய, inf. To walk about groping. தடவியளக்க, inf. To measure scantily, with the measure. தட்டித்தடவிவர, inf. To come stumbling and groping. தாடியைத்தடவ, inf. To stroke the chin as supplicating favors. வீடெல்லாந்தடவிப்பார். Search for it all over the house. எல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுபோய்விட்டான். He has scraped up all, and gone. அவனைத்தலைதடவிப்போட்டார்கள்.....They have stripped him of every thing. மரமெல்லாந்தடவிக்கொண்டுவந்துவிட்டான். He has climbed every tree; i. e. has plucked and brought away every thing. 73)

tṭu (p. 222) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To hinder, to stop, to prohibit, to interrupt, தடைசெய்ய. 2. To ward off, to avert, to prevent, விலக்க. 3. To check, to baffle, to rebuff, தட்ட. 4. To curb, to limit, to restrain, to restrict, அடக்க. 7. To oppose, to contradict, to interdict; to rebut, to repel, எதிர்க்க. 8. To frustrate, to thwart, குலைக்க. 9. To adjure, to hinter by oath, ஆணையிட. 1. To resist, to withstand, மறுக்க. 11. To forbid, as an ill omen, தவிர்க்க. 12. To dissuade, மறிக்க. 13. To hinder by magic, as the catching of birds, fishes, &c., or hitting a mark, மந்திரத்தாற் றடுக்க. 14. To detain, தாமதப்படுத்த. 15. To staunch blood, &c., இரத்தந்தடுக்க. (c.) தடுத்துமேலுமிவ்வுருவமாயினும்பெறல்சற்றல். To put off, and then obtain this body again is not easy. (வயிரா.) கால்தடுக்கிவிழுந்தான். He tripped and fell. தடுக்கல், v. noun. A stumbling block; an impediment. தடுக்கிநிற்க, inf. To stop in a course. தடுத்தாட்கொள்ள, inf. To hinder in a bad course and reclaim; to reform; commonly used in prayer. தடுத்தாள, inf. To check a soul in its evil tendencies, as, to transmigration, &c., and bring it to bliss; to overrule, as divine grace, for the benefit of the soul. தடுத்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To contradict, to retort, to refuse. தடுத்துப்போட, inf. To hinder, to resist. 2. To make a partition wall. தடுத்துவைக்க, inf. To put off, to postpone; to interdict. தடுபடை, s. A defensive weapon. tṭukku (p. 222) s. A little mat for the floor, a chair, &c., சிறுபாய். 2. v. noun. An impediment, a cause of stumbling, as தடக்கு. (c.) தடுக்கிட, inf. To spread a little mat for a person. தடுக்குப்பாய், s. A little mat. தடுக்குத்தள்ள, inf. To flatter, to act the sycophant in order to get a favor, இச்சகம்பேச. பள்ளித்தடுக்கு, s.
