kōḷ (p. 151) v. noun. [from கொள், v.] Taking, having, receiving, seizing, influencing, கொள் ளுகை. 2. s. Columny, aspersion, backbiting, defamation, false accusation, குறளை. 3. Informing against, malicious tale-bearing, புறந்தூற்றல். (c.) 4. Disaster, misfortune, impediment, இடையூறு. 5. Killing, slaughter, கொலை. 6. A lie, falsehood, பொய். 7. Strength, power, வலி. 8. Quality, property, nature, character, reputation, குணம். 9. Evil, vice, தீமை. 1. A planet, either visible or invisible; also other heavenly phenomena, கிரகம். 11. A lunar constellation, நட்சத்திரம். 12. Opinion, tenet, faith, belief, creed, கோட்பாடு. 13. A day, நாள். (சது.) கோளில்பொறியில். Like, the sentient organs when unfit for their functions. (குற). கோட்காரன்--கோட்சொல்லி, s. A talebearer, a slanderer, an informer, a divulger. கோட்கூறு, s. [in astrol.] A division of the rising sign into thirty parts, being the number of its degrees. (See இலக்கி னம்.) 2. Good or evil from the influence of the planets, கிரகங்களின்கோளாறு. கோட்சொல்ல, inf. To calumniate, inform against. 2. To act the part of a tale-bearer, to slander, to divulge secrets injuriously. கோளன், s. A tale-bearer, கோளுரைப் போன். கோள்குண்டணி, s. Tale-bearing and calumny. (c.) கோள்முடிய, inf. [prov.] To fabricate or tell tales; to enrage another's mind by slanderous reports. காணுங்கோள், s. The visible planets. See கிரகம். கரந்துறைகோள், s. tī (p. 242) adj. Evil, wicked, sinful. தீக்குணம், s. Evil disposition or practice; vice, evil, துர்க்குணம். Vices are of three classes, of மனம், வாக்கு, and காயம். 1. மனத்தீக்குணம், sins of the mind, as (a) கொலைநினைக்கை, murderous intention; (b) காமப்பற்று, libidinous desire; (c) ஆசை, avarice, ambition. 2. வாக்கின்தீக்குணம், sins of the mouth--as (a) பொய்சொல்லல், lying; (b) கோள்சொல்லல், tale-bearing; (c) கோபித்துச்சொல்லல், angry speaking; (d) பயனில்சொல்லல், trifling or vain discourse. 3. காயத்தீக்குணம், sins of the body--as (a) களவாடப்போதல், thievish practices; (b) வறிதேதொழில்செயல், idleness; (c) கொலை செயல், killing, murder. தீக்குணர், s. (plu.) The vile, the wicked. 2. The base, the low, (p.) தீக்குறி--தீச்சகுனம், s. A bad sign, symptom or omen, துன்னிமித்தம். தீக்கோள், s. A malignant planet, an evil portent, துர்க்கிரகம். See கோள். தீச்சொல்--தீமொழி, s. Slander, evil speaking, பழிச்சொல். (சது.) 2. Inauspicious or evil words; as curse, சாபம். தீத்தொழில், s. Evil practice, evil deeds. (நாலடி.) தீயது, appel. n. A bad or evil thing. தீயர், s. (Malayalim.) A low caste or tribe--oppos. to நாயர், high caste. தீயொழுக்கம், s. Evil conduct, a vicious course of life--oppos. to நல்லொ ழுக்கம். தீயோர்--தீயர், s. (plu.) The base, the vulgar, கீழ்மக்கள். 2. Savages, barbarians, மூடர். 3. Hunters those that live by the chase, வேடர். தீவினை, s. Evil deeds, vile conduct. wickedness, பாவம்; [ex வினை.] 4)

nārataṉ (p. 274) s. Narada, son of Brahma, and one of the ten original Rishis. He was a friend of Krishna and a celebrated legislator; also inventor of the Vina or lute. In mythological writings he is often described as going on errands and sowing sedition and discord among the gods, ஓருரிஷி; [ex நாரம், as teacher of men.] 2. (fig.)
