A copulative particle to connect nouns and sometimes verbs, இடைச் சொல்--as பொய்படுமொன்றோபுனைபூணுங்கையறி யாப் பேதைவினைமேற்கொளின், if an untaught simpleton undertake it, will it be spoiled merely? oru (p. 83) adj. [changed from ஒன்று, which is the root.] Before vowels and sometimes before consonants, the உ often is dropped and the ஒ lengthened--as ஓரிலை, a leaf. In some connexions and with appropriate emphasis, it means sameness, singularity, peculiarity, specialness, celebrity, &c. ஒருகூடுமுடைந்தவனொன்பதுகூடுமுடைவான். . . . . He who has fabricated one bird's cage may fabricate nine. [prov.] ஒருகண்டசீராக, adv. In one uninterrupted course, monotonously, invariably, constantly. ஒருகண்டசீராகமழைபெய்கிறது. It rains without intermission. ஒருகண்டசீராகக்கூப்பிடுகிறான். He continues calling. ஒருகண்டசீராய்நடக்க. To continue unchanged. ஒருகண்ணுக்குறங்க, inf. To enjoy a short nap. ஒருகண்மூடியொருகண்விழித்தல். Partiality, especially to children. ஒருகாரியம், s. [prov.] One thing, something, a term used in calling or diverting attention, or in stating a reason, &c., in discussion. ஒருகால், s. Once, at once, continuously. ஒருகாலேகூட்டமாய்ப்போக. To go together in one continuous company. ஒருகாலே தேடிக் குவித்துக்கொண்டான். He has laid up a vast quantity. ஒருகாலேபேசுகிறானொன்றும்விளங்கவில்லை. He speaks a great deal, but nothing is understood. ஒருகாலேயுறுக்கிக்கொண்டுவருகிறார். He is scolding much. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாங்கொடுக்கிறது. To give all at once. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாஞ்செய்ய. To do all at once, to finish the whole. ஒருகாலேயெல்லாம்வாங்க. To receive altogether. ஒருகாற்கண்டசீராயிருக்க. To be unchangeable. ஒருகாற்செய்தவனிருகாற்செய்வான். He who has done so once, may do it again. இன்னமொருகால். Again, once more. மாற்றானுமொருகாலிதஞ்சொல்லுகிறான். Even one's foe may sometimes speak to one's advantage. ஒருகிடை, v. noun. Being bedridden; confinement by sickness or grief to a recumbent posture, கிடந்தகிடை. ஒருகிடையாகக்கிடத்தல். Lying still, unable or unwilling to rise. ஒருகுடி, s. Can a dog distinguish a sacred vessel? ஒருசந்தியிருக்க, inf. To make but one meal a day. ஒருசாயல், s. Being alike, ஒருவி தம். 2. Singularity, அபூர்வம். ஒருசாயலாயிருக்க, inf. An unseasonable time. இவனிராத்திரியொருநேரத்தில்என்வீட்டுக்குவந் தான். He came last night to my house at an unseasonable hour. ஒருபடி, adv. Tolerably, ordinarily, ஒருவாறு. 2. In some degree, to some extent, ஒருவிதம். ஒருபடிசெய்துமுடித்தார்கள். They have done it, finished it, &c. with great labor. 2. The time has arrived when the desert says, come, and the house says, go. இந்தவூருக்குக்காடுகொஞ்சம். This village has but little arable land. காடாய்க்கிடக்க, inf. To be covered with jungle or wood. நிலங்காடாய்க்கிடக்கிறது. The ground is uncultivated. கடாய்ப்போக, inf. To become waste, to grow woody. காடாரம்பட்டு, s. A village situated in a wild tract of land near Vedarniam. காடாற்ற, inf. To perform the ceremony of quenching the fire where a corpse has been burnt, gathering the remains and taking them in a new pot to some water representing the Ganges, பாற்றெளிச்சடங்குசெய்ய. காடுகாட்ட, inf. A section of a war poem, extolling the jungle of the sylvan goddess, &c., where the battle occurred, வனதேவதையைவாழ்த்தும்பிரபந்தம். காடுவெட்டி, s. A field covered with corpses. பருத்திக்காடு, s. A cotton field. நெருப்புக்காடு, s. A large fire. புன்செய்க்காடு, s. High dry land. புல்லுக்காடு, s. Pasture land. வெள்ளக்காடு, s. A general flood. பெருங்காடு, s. Large jungle. பனங்காடு, s. A thick palmyra grove. இடுகாடு--சுடுகாடு s. A place for burying, burning the dead. சுடுகாட்டுக்குப்போனபிணந்திரும்புமோ. Will the corpse which has been carried to the cemetery ever come back again? சுடகாட்டுவைராக்கியம். A good resolution formed on the occasion of a funeral is soon forgotten. சுடுகாட்டுமணிபொறுக்கி, s. A globular or round part of a pillar, a cylindrical body, திரட்சி. Wils. p. 29. GUD'A. எண்ணெய்க்குடமும்வெறுங்குடமும்முட்டினாலெ தற்குச்சேதம். If a pot of oil come in collision with an empty pot, which, by breaking, is the greater loss; i.e. in collision, who is the sufferer, the man of character or the worthless person? ஒருகுடம்பாலுக்கொருதுளிஉறைமோர். One drop of butter-milk for coagulating a whole pot of milk; i. e. a good character, obligations of kindness, &c., are forfeited by a single bad action. புறக்குடத்துத் தண்ணீர்போல. Like water on the outside of a pot; i. e. forgotten as soon as learnt; advised or taught to no purpose. பொன்னின்குடத்துக்குப்பொட்டிடவேண்டுமோ.... Does it require that a golden pot be decorated; i. e. things of substantial worth need no embellishment. மாமியார்உடைத்தால்மண்குடம் மருமகளுடைத்தாற் பொன்குடம். If broken by the mother-inlaw, it is a mere earthen pot; but if by the daughter-in-law, it is a golden vessel; i. e. slight faults in inferiors are greatly magnified. குடங்கை, s. The palm of the hand. வெறுங்குடம், s. An empty pot. 2. (fig.) One who knows nothing. குறைகுடம், s. A water-pot not quite full. நிறைகுடம், s. A full water-pot; very good parts; a capable head. குடமூக்கு, s. The town of Combaconum, See கும்பகோணம். குடமூத, inf. To make a sound by blowing into pots, with dancing or jumping--as low-caste women at marriages and in some places at a temple, குடத் தினுள்ளூதியொலிபிறப்பிக்க. குடம்விட்டுக்கட்ட, inf. [prop.] To decorate the marriage pole with stiffened cloth, so as to resemble pots placed one on another. குடமுழா, s. A kind of drum made of a pot, முழவு. குடமல்லிகை, s. A kind of jasmine, ஓர் மல்லிகை, Jasminum sambac, L. Arabian jasmine. See மல்லிகை. குடமுருட்டி, s. A branch of the Kavery, ஓர் ஆறு. குடச்சிப்பி, s. A round shell or conch. குடவுழுந்தர், s. The name of a celebrated poet who, in his youth, was as long in getting a lesson as it required to fill a pot with lentils, உழுந்து, one at a time, ஓர்புலவன், குடவெழுத்தாணி, s. An iron-style with knobs or balls at the top, one above another, tapering to a point. குடம்வைத்தல், v. noun. Playing with the fists one on another, and knocking off the upper in succession, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. குடமண், s. White sand, வெண் மணல். (M. Dic.) 26)

kuṇāmpu (p. 118) கிறேன், குணாம்பினேன், வேன், குணாம்ப, v. n. To speak officiously, to insult, to taunt, to use invective, irony, sarcasm, &c., பகிடிபேச. குணாம்பி, v. A ludicrous, comical, droll fellow; a buffoon. 19)

The five defects of the body; 1. கொட்டாவி, yawning. 2. நெட்டை, snapping the joints. 3. குறுகு றுப்பு, snoring. 4. கூன்கிடை, lying shrunk up. 5. நட்டுவிழல், nodding. அஷ்டகுற்றம், s. The eight imperfections of creatures. 1. ஞானாவரணியம், ignorance, or want of wisdom. 2. தரி சனாவரணியம், defective perception. 3. வேதநீயம், comprehensibleness. 4. மோக நீயம். subjection to the passions. 5. ஆயு, age, limited duration. 6. நாமம், having a name or describableness. 7. கோத்திரம், parentage, descent. 8. அந்தராயம். liability to impediments and accidents. The opposite of these are peculiar to the deity. See எண்குணம் under குணம். நூற்குற்றம், s. The ten faults or defects in a literary composition. 1. குன்றக்கூறல், a partial statement--saying too little. 2. மிகைபடக்கூறல், redundancy-saying too much. 3. கூறியதுகூறல், tautology--repetition. 4. மாறுகொளக்கூறல், inconsistency--contradictory statements. 5. வழூஉச்சொற்புணர்த்தல், the employment of improper or inappropriate words and terms. 6. மயங்கவைத்தல், obscurity, mystification. 7. வெற்றெனத்தொடுத்தல், emptiness, barrenness. 8.மற்றொன்றுவிரித்தல், digression--introducing another subject. 9. சென்றுதேய்ந்திறுதல், gradual loss of vigor and tone. 1. நின்றுபயனின்மை, useless statements; verbosity; bombast. இமைக்குற்றங் கண்ணுக்குத்தெரியாது. The eye does not see the defect of the eyelashes; i. e. one's own errors, and those of his family and friends, are unnoticed. குற்றங்கடிய, inf. To avoid guilt. குற்றங்களைய, inf. To free from errors. குற்றங்காட்ட, inf. To expose faults. குற்றங்காண, inf. To find fault. 2. To blame, to be blameable, &c. குற்றஞ்சாட்ட--குற்றஞ்சுமத்த--குற் றப்படுத்த--குற்றமேற்ற, inf. To conviet, charge with a fault or crime; to accuse. அவன்மேற்குற்றஞ்சுமத்து. He has been found guilty. குற்றஞ்சாராதவன், s. An innocent man. குற்றஞ்செய்ய--குற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To commit a fault; to perpetrate a crime; to do wrong, &c. குற்றஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To accuse, criminate, blame, censure, charge with fault; to impeach. 2. To object, gainsay. 3. To criticize; to be hypercritical, censorious, captious; to expose faults. குற்றத்தைமறைக்க, inf. To deny a crime; to hide a fault. குற்றந்தீர்க்க--குற்றம்பரிகரிக்க, inf. To correct faults, to free from faults; to expurgate, exculpate, absolve. குற்றந்தெரிக்க, inf. To exhibit faults; to criticize, to sift--as a literary production. குற்றப்பட, inf. To be in fault; to be found guilty, criminal, blameable. குற்றப்பாடு, v. noun. The state of being in fault; accusation, imputation. குற்றம்பார்க்க--குற்றம்பிடிக்க, inf. To find fault, to be censorious. குற்றம்பார்க்கிற்சுற்றமில்லை. Censoriousness destroys friendship. குற்றமில்லான்--குற்றங்களில்லான், s. Argha--as an immaculate being, அருகன். 2. Any holy being; an innocent person. குற்றமிறுக்க, inf. To pay a fine. குற்றம்பாராட்ட, inf. To exaggerate one's faults; to magnify guilt; to dwell too much upon one's faults. குற்றம்பொறுக்க, inf.
