iḷku (p. 55) கிறது, இளகினது, ம், இளக, v. n. [prov.] To relax, abate, become pliable, flexible, to lessen in intensity or severity--as wind, rain, sun-shine, fever, &c., தணிய. 2. To become tender, indulgent, mild, yielding, placable, to relax in ardor, application, &c., நெகிழ. 3. To grow moist --as goods, &c. in rainy weather, to soften--as heated iron or other metals, to dissolve a little, be reduced in hardness, &c., to deliquesce, soak through--as tiles, கரைய. 4. To become relaxed--as a bowstring, to become loose--as screws, &c., தளர. இளகாதவன், s. A hard-hearted, inexorable person. இளகிக்காண, inf. To become limber, soft, loose, pliant, lubricous, &c., நெகிழ. 2. To appear less strict, rigid, &c.--as the mind; to become less tense. இளகினபொன், s. Soft or pure gold that easily melts, &c., the prefix is alike applicable to other metals. இளகினமனசு, s. A feeling, kind heart. 49)

uḷu (p. 67) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To be worm-eaten--as wood, to be eaten out by worms, insects, weevils--as grain, seeds, or other cold body, மரமுதலியவையுளுக்க. 2. To perish as flour, to become spoiled, மாவாயுளுக்க. இந்தமரமுழுதுமுளுத்துப்போயிற்று. This wood in entirely worm-eaten. இச்சரீரமுப்பிருந்தபாண்டம்போலுளுத்துப்போம்.... The body becomes corroded like a vessel in which salt is kept. உளுத்ததுவரை, s. The worm-eaten seed of the Cajan shrub, Cajanus Indicus. உளுப்பு, v. noun. Being wormeaten, உளுக்கை. உளுப்புத்தாவ, inf. To begin to be worm-eaten. 42)

kuṟuku (p. 132) கிறது, குறுகினது, ம், குறுக, v. n. To grow short; to be twarfish, குள்ளமாக. 2. To shrink, contract; to lessen, to be reduced, to become scanty; to decrease, diminish, to be brought low, to decline, சுருங்க, குறைய. 3. (p.) To approach, approximate, arrive at, come to contact with, அணுக. 4. [in gram.] To shorten--as a long vowel, &c., மாத்திரையிற்குறைய. குறுக, [used adverbially.] Near, short, close. குறுகப்பண்ண, inf. To shorten. குறுகப்பிடிக்க, inf. To make short. 2. To curtail (expenses), to retrench. 3. To shorten (a story &c.). 4. To hold nearer, closer, &c. குறுகக்காய்ச்ச, inf. [prov.] To boil liquor or water away--as சுண்டக்காய்ச்ச. குறுகல், v. noun. [substantively.] A thing that is short dwarfed or stinted, குறுகிய பொருள். 2. Shortening, &c. குறுகலாயிருக்க, inf. To be short. 2. To be near. குறுகல்முத்து, s. [prov.] A double pearl. குறுகலர், s. Enemies, foes--as அடை யலர். குறுவித்துப்பார்க்க, inf. To look steadfastly, intently. 2. To scowl, to frown. குறுக்கம், v. noun. Abridgment, abbreviation, contraction, epitome, summary, சுருக்கம். 2. Shortness, brevity, succinctness, compendiousness, declension, reduction, குறுமை. 3. [local.] A certain quantity of land, in land measure. ஆறுகுறுக்கம், s. The six obbreviations of letters, viz.: குற்றியலிகரம், abbreviated இ, --as in நாகியாது, எஃகியாது, வரகியாது, கொக்கி யாது, குரங்கியாது, தெள்கியாது, கேண்மியா,சென் மியா. 2. குற்றியலுகரம், abbreviated உ--as நாகு, எஃகு, வரகு, கொக்கு, குரங்கு, தெள்கு. 3. ஐகாரக்குறுக்கம், abbreviated ஐ--as ஐப்பசி. இ டையன், குவளை. To give ear, to listen--not elegant. கேள்விமறுமொழி, s. Question and answer; a catechism. கேள்விக்கடுதாசி, s. [prov.] Written application to a court of justice. 2. Tenders or proposals in writing. கேள்விக்காரர், s. [prov.] Bidders at an auction. 2. Persons who tender proposals at a purchase. 3. Candidates or applicants for an office. கேள்விச்செவி, s. Listening credulously to hear-say reports. கேள்விச்செவியன் ஊரைக்கெடுத்தான். The credulous ruler ruined the country. கேள்விப்பத்திரம், s. [prov.] A request, application, petition, &c., in writing. கேள்விகேட்பாடு, s. [local.] Judicial inquiry, investigation. கேள்வியற்றஊர்--கேள்வியில்லாதஊர், s. A town without justice. கேள்விமுறை, s. Inquiry into; superintendence, control, management. கேள்வியாக, inf. To be heard, to be reported; to reach the ears--as news; to be heard in court. கை கைகாட்டு, v. noun. Gesture with the hand, as in dancing; beck of the hand. கைகுவிக்க, inf. To hold up the hands joined, in worship, &c. See குவி. கைகுறண்ட, inf. To have the hands bent by spasms. 2. To be cramped in the hands. 3. To be stingy, parsimonious, close-fisted. கைகூச, inf. To be backward in using the hand. See கூசு. கைகூட, inf. To come to hand, be obtained, to succeed, அனுகூலப்பட. அவன்செய்வதெல்லாம் அவனுக்குக் கைகூடும். All that he does prospers. கைகூப்பு, v. noun. Raising the joined hands in worship--as கூப்பு. 2. The distance from the tip of the fingers to the feet, when the hands are joined and raised above the head. கைகொட்ட, inf. To clap the hands. கைகோக்க, inf. To clasp one another's hands, to join hands. 2. To be arm in arm, to take another's arm. கைகோத்தாட, inf. To dance with arms linked. கைகோள், s. A course of conduct, especially in love affairs. (அகப்பொ.) கேள்வி, v. noun. The grand subjects of information under four heads; 1. அ றம், virtue or a virtuous course of action; all knowledge relating to the nature or practice of virtue, or having virtue as its object, including religion, jurisprudence, ethies and every thing connected with the well-being of society, and the promotion of universal benevolence towards all sentient beings. This is subdivided into, 1. இல்லறம், the duties and usages of man--as a member of society. 2. துறவறம், the duties and practices of the recluse, who renounces social life and retires to the desert. 2. பொருள், wealth, property, substance; truth; all kinds of knowledge relating to the nature, acquisition and uses of learning and wealth--including. 1. கல்விப்பொருள், general knowledge, and science. 2. செல் வப்பொருள், property, trade, commerce and the various occupations for gain or the support of life. 3. இன்பம், delight, gratification, knowledge of the nature and means of pleasure and bliss--especially love and matrimony. 4. வீடு, liberation from births, knowledge relating to final emancipation or eternal felicity. --Note. Another classification makes five parts, the fifth embracing the practice of the rules laid down for the attainment of the benefits implied in the four. 72)

tacam (p. 221) s. Ten, பத்து. W. p. 42. DASAN. தசகண்டசித்து, s. Rama, இராமன். தசகண்டன்--தசக்கிரீவன், s. Ravana the ten-heated, இராவணன். தசரற்பனை--தசமொழி, s. (Christian use in poetry.) The decalogue. தசதானம், s. Gifts to brahmans, made in the last extremity, as a passport to the other world; or by princes, and other great men, daily; by some also when a daughter is given in marriage, பத்துத்தானம். They are: 1. பசு, cow. 2. பூமி. land. 3. எள், sesamum. 4. பொன், gold. 5. நெய். ghee. 6. வஸ்திரம், cloth. 7. வெல்லம், coarse sugar, or jaggery. 8. நெல், paddy. 9. வெள்ளி, silver. 1. உப்பு. salt. தசதிக்கு--தசதிசை, s. See நாடி. தசப்பிராதுற்பவம், s. prov. more properly. தசபிராதுர்ப்பாவம்.] A poem in the ஆசிரியவிருத்தம் verse, celebrating the ten incarnations of Vishnu, உற்பவமாலை. தசப்பொருத்தம்--கலியாணப்பொருத் தம்--மணப்பொருத்தம். s. [in astrol.] Ten points in which there should be agreement in the horoscope of the bride and bridegroom. 1. நாள், in the lunar asterism or lunar day of birth. 2. கணம், in the three-fold division of the lunar asterisms, தேவர், இராட்சதர், and மனிதர், nine being ascribed to each, and a preference given where both are not in the same division. 3. மாகேந்திரம், in the rising sign, and the fourth, seventh or tenth. (See கேந்தி ரம்.) 4. திரிதீர்க்கம், in the asterism at the birth of the bridegroom which should be above that of the bride. 5. யோனி, in genital characteristics, ascribed to the lunar constellations. 6. இராசி, in the zodiacal signs, in which after the sixth of the bridegroom, his should be above the bride's. 7. அதிபதி, in the rulers of the signs which are the seven planets. 8. வசியம், in the respective zodiacal signs one with another. 9. வேதம், தாலிப்பொருத்தம் or மங்கிலியக்கயிறு, in the astrological circles, in no one of which should both be found. 1. இரச்சு, in lines drawn across the circles in any one of which, both persons should not be found. தசப்பொருத்தம்--செய்யுட்பொருத்தம், s. See செய்யுள். தசமம், s. [prop. தசமஸ்கந்தம்.] The tenth book of Bhagavata. தசமபாகம், s. The tenth part. (Colloq.) தசமி, s. The tenth phase of the moon, in the increase or decrease, பத்தாந் திதி.
