uvamai (p. 66) s. Comparison, simile, similitude, உவமாலங்காரம். 2. [in the scripture translations.] A parable. The common rhetoric gives twenty-four varieties of உவமை, the simplest form is by supplying terms expressive of similitude--as, சந்திரன்போன்றமுகம், a moon-like face. Wils. p. 156. UPAMA. உவமைசொல்ல, inf. To compare. உவமைத்தொகை--தொகையுவ மை, s. The omission of the sign of comparison--as மதிமுகம் for மதிபோன்ற முகம். உவமையகத்திணை, s. [in rhetoric.] A kind of metaphor--as when it is said, குயில்வந்தாள், meaning thereby a female thus compared to that sweet-noted bird. உவமையாய்ச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak allegorically, figuratively. உவமையின்மை, s. Incomparableness-as அதுலம். உவமிக்க, inf. To liken, compare, to examine the relations things bear to each other, உவமானஞ்செய்ய. உவமிப்பு, v. noun.
