eri (p. 73) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், எரிய, v. n. To glow, shine, give light, பிரகாசிக்க. 2. To burn, ignite; to be injured, or consumed by fire, to be scorched, to flame, அழல. 3. To burn--as a sore, or fever; to smart, to be inflamed, புண்முதலியவெரிய. 4. To be envious, jealous, to fret, be peevish, பொறா மைகொள்ள. 6. To burn as the stomach with hunger, வயிறெரிய. 7. To suffer pain --as from a heavy load on the head, &c., தலைமுதலியனவெரிய. (c.) அடுப்பெரிகிறது. The fire upon the hearth burns. மந்தமெரிந்துபோனது. The indigestion has ceased, lit. is burnt up. நட்சத்திரமெரிந்துவிழுகின்றது. A star glows and falls. நான்தின்றதெல்லாமெரிந்துபோயிற்று. The food I took has digested. 2. I am so pained by what you said that the food I have eaten seems as nothing. 3. The food I took has digested by means of enchantment, medicines, &c. வயிறெரிகின்றது. A canine appetite, எரிவயிறு. (c.) எரிகுடலன், s. One who is always craving for food, தீபனமுள்ளவன். எரிகுன்மம், s. A stomachic disease, excessive heat, head-ache, &c., ஓர்நோய். எரிகொள்ளி, s. A fire-brand, கொள்ளிக்கட்டை. எரிசினம், s. Burning anger, கடுங் கோபம். எரிநரகம், s. The burning hell, ஓர்நரகம்--in distinction from others. எரிபடுவன், s. A burning ulcer or cancer, பிளவை. எரிபந்தம், s. A burning torch, a flambeau, தீவர்த்தி. 2. A kind of burning sensation all over the system from disease, எரிச்சல். எரிபிடாரி, s. An enraged or furious demoness, எரிதுர்க்கை. 2. A peevish, or fretful person-spoken disparagingly, எரிச்சலுடையவள். எரிபுழு, s. A kind of brownish, yellow caterpillar, the sight of which on leaving home, &c., is regarded as propitious, கம்பளப்பூச்சியினோர்வகை. எரிபூச்சி, s. A flying insect which, on contact, emits moisture that causes a burning smart and a discoloring of the skin, ஓர்பூச்சி. எரிமணி, s. Sparkling jewels, bright gems, பிரகாசமுள்ளமணி. எரிமுகி, s. A tree, the milk of whose seeds is pungent and caustic, and being indelible, is used in marking, சேங் கொட்டைமரம், Semicarpus anacardium. எரியவிழிக்க, inf. To look fiercely having the eyes flaming with rage, கோ பத்தோடுபார்க்க. எரிவண்டு, s. The Mylabris or blistering beetle, ஓர்வகைவண்டு. 2. An insect which strikes against the eye-ball inducing severe smarting, கண்ணிலடிக்கும் வண்டு. எரிவந்தம், s. A burning sensation in the body, எரிபந்தம். 2. (Met.) Anger, wrath, எரிச்சல். எரிவனம், s. A burning place for the dead, சுடுகாடு. எரிவரியன், s. A snake of the viper kind. பற்றியெரிய, inf. To take fire. எரிப்பு, v. noun. Burning, ignition, எரிவு. 2. s. Envy, jealousy, peevishness, malice, rancor, பொறாமை. 3. Satiety, nausea, நெஞ்செரிப்பு. எரிப்புக்காரன்--எரிப்புள்ளவன், s. An envious, impatient, peevish, or irritable person, பொறாமையுடையவன். எரிப்பெடுக்க, inf. To be peevish, cynical, querulous, எரிப்புண்டாக. ஓரெரிப்பாயெரிக்க, inf. To keep a fire burning, to heat continually--as in preparing medicines. ஓரெரிப்பாயெரித்துப்போட்டான்... He consumed it at one burning. 2. He has utterly destroyed (the family, town, &c., by injustice, oppression, &c.). எரியல், v. noun. Burning, எரிவு. 2. [prov.] That which is burnt--as food, at the bottom of a vessel in cooking, எரிந்தது. எரிவு, v. noun. Burning, ignition, எரிகை. 2. s. Heat in the system, smarting, pungency, inflammation, உடலெரிவு 3. ōm (p. 84) s. The mystic name of the deity, prefacing and concluding all the prayers or incantations of the daily worship, commencing books, &c., from அ, a name of vishnu; உ, of Siva, and ம் of Brahma, embracing therefore the Indian Triad, and expressing the three in one, பிர ணவம். 2. An expression of assent, a term used in bonds, agreements, &c., as showing the assent of the contracting party, ஓருடன்பாட்டுச்சொல். 3. kṭu (p. 87) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To throb--as from a sting, venomous bite, the prick of a thorn, tooth-ache, விரு விருக்க. 2. To ache--as with colic, dysentery, &c.; to have pain as the leg from walking; the shoulders or head from carrying a load; the mouth from speaking; the arm from writing, &c., உளைய. 3. To be seasoned too highly, or otherwise spoiled--as curry, commonly, கடுகடுக்க. 4. (p.) To be like, to resemble, ஒக்க. 5. To be in doubt, or uncertainty, to hesitate, ஐயுற. 6. To be angry, impatient, fretful, கோபிக்க. 7. To pass swiftly, விரைய. கடுத்தபின். When (the king) suspects. (குறள்.) கடுத்துப்போனதண்ணீர். Bad water, water unpleasant to the taste. அடுத்ததுகாட்டும்பளிங்கேபோல்நெஞ்சங்கடுத்ததுகா ட்டுமுகம். The face indicates the resentment of the heart, as the mirror reflects the shape of things placed before it. ஊமன்கண்ணிலாதவற்குரைத்தலுங்காண்டலுங்கடுக் கும். It is as if a blind man saw a thing which a dumb man told him to look at. கடுவரைநீரிற்கடுத்துவரக்கண்டு. Used as a particle of comparison--as பிள்ளைகடுப்பப்பிணம்பிறங்க, the bodies (of those who fell in battle) appeared (to move their dying limbs) like infants. (வெண்பா.) கடுத்தல், v. noun. Doubt, ஐயம். 2. Wrath, கோபம். 3. Vehemence, வேகம். 4. Comparison, உவமை. (p.) கடுப்பு, v. noun. Pains, throbbing, throe, எரிவு. 2. Anger, displeasure, impatience, peevishness, சினம். 3. Speed, rapidity, impetuosity, great haste, வேகம். அவருடையகடுப்பெல்லாமாறிப்போயிற்று. His peevish arrogance is now all gone (his means being reduced). கடுப்பிறக்குதல், v. noun. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. கடுப்புக்கழிச்சல், s. A painful dysentery. கடுப்புச்சூடு, v. noun. Cauterizing oxen after castrating as a counteroperation to promote healing. கடுப்பெடுத்தல், v. noun. Being in pain, aching. 2. Reducing one's pride, arrogance. வாதக்கடுப்பு, s. Rheumatic pains in the limbs. நீர்க்கடுப்பு, s. Dysury, strangury. மூலக்கடுப்பு, s. Dysentery, tenesmus. வயிற்றுக்கடுப்பு, s. Griping of the bowels. மனக்கடுப்பு, s. Indignation, resentment. 72)

Dread of thieves; danger of thieves, ascertained by astrological calculations showing it unsafe to set out on a journey at the given hour, கள்ளரைப்பற்றியசோசியம். சோரபுத்திரன், s. An illegitimate son. சோரப்பார்வை, s. Libidinous glance. சோரமள்ள, inf. [prov.] To take away by stealth, from a heap of grain, &c. சோரமார்க்கம், s. Unlawful conduct of a wife. தாய்
tāy (p. 234) s. Mother, அன்னை. 2. Dam, female parent of animals in general, விலங்கின் தாய். 3. [in combination.] A maternal aunt, &c. (See சிறியதாய், சிறியதாய்முறை and பெரியதாய்.) 4. Origin, that which is primitive, chief, or principal, முதன்மை. (c.) தாய், is also applied to five kinds of nurses. 1. பாராட்டுத்தாய். 2. ஊட்டுந்தாய். 3. முலைத்தாய். 4. கைத்தாய். 5. செவிலித்தாய். which see. Another five-fold classification is given of persons held in similar esteem with mothers. 1. அரசன்தேவி, king's wife. 2. குருவின்தேவி, wife of the guru. 3. அண் ணன்தேவி, elder brother's wife. 4. தன்தே வியைஈன்றவள், wife's mother. 5. தன்னைஈன் றவள், one's own mother. தாய்ப்பொன்னிலும்மாப்பொன்எடுக்கிறவன். He who would steal one-twentieth even of his mother's gold--a maxim on the thievishness of goldsmiths. தாய்முகங்காணாதபிள்ளை. A child early bereaved of its mother. தாய்முலைப்பாலிலும்உப்புப்பார்க்கிறவன். One who tries even his mother's milk to see if it is not salt; i. e. a distrustful, mistrustful, sceptical person. தாய்சொற்சிறந்தவாசகமில்லை. No word is like that of a mother. (Avv.) தாயினும்அன்பர்கர்த்தர். The Divine Being more loving than a mother. (Christ. usage.) தாய்க்குள்ளதுமகளுக்கு. As the mother, so the daughter. தாயாடு, s. A dam. தாயேடு--தாயோலை, s. [prov.] The original book, முதலேடு. தாயைக்கொல்லி, appel. n. A matricide. 2. A villain, a wretch, மாபாவி. 3. A plantain, or other tree that perishes after yielding, வாழைநண்டுசிப்பிவேய்முதலியன. தாய்கால்--தாய்க்கால்வழி, s. Maternal relatives--as தாய்வழி. தாய்க்கம்பு, s. A stick with which children, in a play, strike a smaller one, கோட்டி. தாய்க்கரும்பு, s. The parent sugarcane. தாய்க்கறையான்--தாய்ச்செல், s. A large white-ant. See கறையான். தாய்க்காணி, s. [prov.] Land of the first quality, முதற்றரமானகாணி. தாய்க்கிராமம், s. A principal village or hamlet. தாய்க்கிழங்கு, s. The principal esculent root. தாய்ச்சீட்டு, s. Original bond, draft, &c. தாய்ச்சீலை, s. (com. தாச்சீலை.) The fore-flap. தாய்ச்சோட்டை--தாய்ச்சோஷை, s. Longing of a child for its mother. தாய்தகப்பனில்லாதபிள்ளை, s. An orphan. தாய்மாமன், s. Maternal uncle. தாய்வழி--தாய்வழிச்சுற்றம், s. Relatives in the maternal line. தாய்வாழை, s. The original plantain tree. பெரியதாய், s. Mother's elder sister. 2. Elder paternal uncle's wife. பெரியதாய்முறை, s. Relationship of the wife's father's elder sisters, or of the husband's mother's elder brothers. பெற்றதாய்--நற்றாய், s. Alpinia Galanga minor, பேரரத்தை, Alpinia Galanga major; 3. செவ்வியம், Piper nigrum; 4. சித்திரமூலம், Plumbago Zeylanica; 5. கண்டுபாரங்கி, சிறுதேக்கு, a kind of medicinal root; 6. கோரைக்கிழங்கு, Cyperus juncifolius; 7. நன்னாரிவேர், Indian Sarsaparilla; 8. காஞ்சொறிவேர், Tragia involucrata. தசமூலம், Ten kinds of medicinal roots used in a tonic medicament: 1. வாகை, Mimosa flexuosa; 2. முல்லை, Jasminum angustifol, 3. பாதிரி, Bignonia chelenoides; 4. நெருஞ்சி, Tribulus terrestris; 5. பேரா முட்டி, Pavonia odorata; 6. கூவிளை, Crat&ae;va religiosa; 7. சிற்றாமுட்டி, Pavonia Zeylanica; 8. சிறுவழுதுணை, Solanum Indicum; 9. கண்டங்கத்தரி, Solanum Jaquini; 1. குமிழ், Gmelina Asiatica. An irascible disposition. மூலக்கடுப்பு, v. noun. Pain from piles. See கடுப்பு. மூலக்கரப்பன், s. A spreading eruption. மூலக்காரன், s. One who has the piles. 2. [com. மூலகுணக்காரன்.] A hasty tempered man. மூலக்கிரந்தி, s. A kind of disease from morbid humors in the body. மூலக்கூறு, s. The radical parts of any substance; or its essential nature. மூலக்கிராணி, s. Hemorrhoids or piles with flux. See கிராணி. மூலக்கொதி, s. A kind of disease or pain from the piles, said to cause peevishness, and anger. மூலசம், s. All the vegetable productions which have roots or a bulb; [ex சம்.] மூலச்சூடு, s. As மூலக்கொதி. மூலச்சோதி, s. The original or primeval light, i. e. God, கடவுள். மூலதனம்--மூலத்திரவியம், s. Capital or stock, முதற்பணம். 2. A treasure accumulated by ancestors, பிதிரார்ச்சிதம். மூலத்தம்பம், s. A Sanscrit treatise on Architecture, ஓர்சிற்பநூல். மூலத்தன்மை, s. Principle, பிரகிருதி. மூலத்தானம்--மூலஸ்தானம், s. The interior of a temple. See கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். 2. A king's residence, அரசிருக்கை. மூலத்துருவம், s. Epoch-longitude of a planet. See துருவம். மூலநாள், s. The nineteenth lunar mansion, as மூலம். மூலநோக்காடு-மூலநோய்-மூலவியாதி, s. The piles. மூலபஞ்சாட்சரம், s. The five mysterious letters, நமசிவாய, a Saiva formule. மூலபதம், s. The root of a word. See பிண்டம். மூலபலம்--மூலப்படை, s. The main body of an army. மூலபலாதிகள், s. Roots, fruits, &c., eaten by ascetics in forests; [ex பலம், fruits et ஆதி, first.] மூலபாடம், s. An original text without a commentary. மூலபாடை--மூலபாஷை, s. The original language--said by Buddhists to be the Pali. மூலப்பகுதி--மூலப்பிரகிருதி, s. Maya as the cause of visible creation. மூலப்பொருள், s. The original or first cause, God, கடவுள். (p.) மூலமந்திரம், s. The chief mantra of each sect, as distinguished from the Gayatri common to all, especially to the brahmans. மூலமலம், s. The original principle of good and evil, causing successive births. See ஆணவம். மூலமுளை, s. A hemorrhoidal shoot. மூலவாயு, s. Wind in the intestines. மூலவாயுவையெழுப்புதல், v. noun. Driving upwards the internal wind. மூலவிக்கிரகம், s. The chief or stationary idol in a temple, usually of unwrought black granite--oppos. to எழுந் தருளுநாயகர். மூலவிருள், s. The original darkness of the soul. See மாயை. மூலவேர், s.
