aṉṉpēti (p. 34) --அன்னவேதி, s. A drug, sulphate of iron or green vitriol, sulphur which is said to liquefy boiled rice, ஓர்மருந்து; [ex அன்னம், boiled rice, et பேதி.] 8) *

aṉṉam (p. 34) s. Boiled rice, food in general, சோறு. Wils. p. 4. ANNA. அன்னக்களை, s. Faintness through hunger; languor on eating too much food when weak. அன்னக்காவடி, s. Boiled rice carried with ceremony under a canopy, &c. to be presented to the idol. 2. Boiled rice begged from house to house, to be distributed to mendicants. அன்னக்கொடி, s. A flag hoisted on a choultry to give notice that rice is distributed gratuitously. அன்னக்கொடை, s. Liberality in giving boiled rice. அன்னசத்திரம்--அன்னசாலை, s. A choultry where boiled rice is distributed gratuitously. அன்னசாரம்--அன்னரசம், s. The essence of food, chyle. Wils. p. 4. ANNARASA. 2. Conjee, rice-gruel, கஞ்சி. அன்னசுத்தி, s. Ghee, நெய். அன்னதாதா--அன்னதாதிரு, s. One who gives food, a charitable person. Wils. p. 4. ANNADATRU. அன்னதானம், s. The giving of boiled rice as alms; [ex தானம்.] Wils. p. 4. ANNADANA. அன்னதானப்பிரபு, s. A very liberal man who gives boiled rice daily, &c. அன்னபானம், s. Food and drink. அன்னபானாதிகள், s. Food, drink, &c. அன்னப்பாகு, s. (Anat.) Chyme. அன்னப்பால், s. The water strained from boiled rice, conjee. அன்னப்பிராசனம், s. The ceremony of feeding a child with rice for the first time--if a boy, on the sixth or any other even month afterwards, as the eighth, tenth, &c.--if a daughter, on any odd month after the sixth. The direction is given in காசிகாண்டம், and is regularly practised by Brahmans, குழ ந்தைக்குமுன்னர்ச்சோறூட்டல். Wils. p. 4. ANNAPRASHANA. அன்னமயகோசம், s. The gross material body, sustained by food--as one of the investitures or supports of any soul, சரீரம். See கோசம். Wils. p. 4. ANNAMAYAKOSHA. அன்னரேகை, s. [in palmistry.] A line on the hand indicating abundance of the means of support to him who has it, கையிரேகையினொன்று. அன்னவஸ்திரம், s. Food and clothing. அன்னவூறல், s. Rice-gruel, or water in which rice has been boiled, கஞ்சி. அன்னாபிடேகம்--அன்னாபிஷேகம், s. Anointing an idol with boiled rice. அன்னாலாத்தி, s. Lamps of boiled rice before an idol, or a new married couple, to dispel the fascination of unlucky eyes. See ஆலாத்தி. 9)

aṉṉm (p. 34) s. A swan, அன்னப்புள். 2. (p.) The bosgrunniens, or yak, as கவரிமா. அன்னக்கொடி, s. The swan as the banner of Brahma, பிரமன்கொடி. அன்னக்கொடியோன், s. Brahma. (p.) அன்னக்கொப்பு, s. An ear-ornament with a circle and the swan engraved on it, மகளிர்காதணியினொன்று. அன்னத்தூவி, s. Down of the swan. See சயனம். அன்னவூசல், s. A kind of swing turned by a person unseen. அன்னவூர்தி, s. The swan as a vehicle. அன்னவாகனம். 2. The god Brahma-as riding on the swan, பிரமா.(p.) 10)

aṉṉiyam (p. 34) s. That which is other, different, heterogeneous, வேறு. 2. That which is strange, foreign, another's, alien, exotic, புறத்தேயத்துள்ளது. 3. [in logic.] That which is of a different species, வித்தியாசமான வருக்கம். Wils. p. 4. ANYA. 4. The Indian cuckoo, குயில். அன்னியகுலம், s. A different tribe. அன்னியசாதி, s. A strange caste. 2. A low caste. அன்னியதாகர்த்தத்துவம், s. Government through subordinate agencies --one of the three prerogatives of the Supreme Being. அன்னியபுட்டம், s. The cooil bird, or Indian cuckoo, குயில்; [ex புஷ்ட, nourished.] Wils. p. 4. ANYAPUSHTA. The crow is supposed to sit upon the eggs of the குயில். அன்னியர், s. Others, strangers, aliens, foreigners. அன்னியோன்னியம், s. Mutuality, reciprocity, interchange, union, friendship, intimacy, sociability, ஐக்கியம். Wils. p. 41. ANYONYA. அன்னியோன்னியாபாவம். [in logic.] Absence of mutual relation--as, குடத்திற்படமில்லை படத்திற்குடமில்லை. There is not the (substance of) cloth in the pot, nor the (substance of) pot in the cloth. Wils. p. 41. aṉṉuvylilkkṇm (p. 34) s. The specialities of grammatical construction, embracing five particulars; viz.: 1. விசேடணம், qualifying terms. 2. விசேடியம், the thing qualified. 3. கருத்தா, the agent. 4. கருமம், the object. 5. கிரியை, the action or attribute-as அருளுடையஞானிகதியடைந் தான். The pious devotee obtained bliss; wherein the first term அருளுடைய is வி சேடனம், ஞானி is விசேடியம் and கருத்தா, கதி is கருமம், and அடைந்தான், the verb or கிரியை. 17)

aṉṉōṉṟi (p. 34) s. [priv. அல, et நோன்மை, strength--or நோன்றல், bearing as pain, &c.] A person of a weak or feeble constitution, பலமற்றவன்.

aṉṟil (p. 34) s. The nightingale of India, much celebrated by poets for attachment to its mate, which it is said never to leave nor long to survive, ஓர்புள்; [ex அ ன்று, without, et இல், not.] 2. The nineteenth lunar asterism, மூலநாள். (p.) 5)

aṉṟu (p. 34) s. That day, then, any time but the present, அந்நாள். 2. (The third person masc. sing. of the defective verb, அல்.) It is not (that, but something else), அல்லது. 3. An expletive, அசைச் சொல்--as, ஆயதன்றே; for ஆயது, it happened. 4. [in poetry.] அன்று, is used for அன்றி--as, நாளன்றுபோகி, for நாளன்றிப்போகி. அன்றன்று. Daily, every day.-Note. In the high dialect, words which imply time and end in று or டு, are made adjectives by changing the preceding ன், or ண், into ற், or ட், and உ, into ஐ--as அன்று, is made அற்றை, இன்றுஇற்றை; also ஆண்டு-ஆட்டை, yearly. அன்றாடம், adv. Daily. (c.) அன்றினர், s. Foes, opponents, பகைவர்; [ex இனம்.] (பிரபுலிங்க.) அன்றுமுதல். From that day forward. அன்றெரிந்தான், s. A small shrub, ஓர்பூண்டு. அன்றே--அன்றைத்தினம்--அன் றையதினம், s.
