uṭai (p. 59) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To break a vessel, &c.; to burst, break open, break a bank, &c.; to break lumps, clods, &c.; to break a boil, a blister, the skull or any other flat, solid or massive substance; to split, fracture, தகர்க்க. 2. To break the ranks of an enemy, to defeat, discomfit, disperse, rout, put to flight, இரிக்க. 3. To ruin, impoverish one, கெடுக்க. 4. To untwist, untwine, முறுக்கவிழ்க்க. 5. v. n. To break--as a boil, கட்டியுடைக்க.-Note. உடைய and உடைக்க are not applicable to the breaking of a tree, a branch, an arm or any other long and cylindrical body that is broken off short or asunder. For this meaning see முரிக்க, ஒடிக்க, &c. தண்ணீருடைத்துப்பாய்கிறது. The water has broken (the dam) and flows out. பல்லுடைப்பேனென்றான். He said, I will break your teeth. கட்டுடைக்க, inf. To burst an embankment--as water. பெண்மையுடைக்கும்படை, s. The weapon that dissolves female continency. தலையுடைக்க, inf. To take much pains, mentally--as in abstruse calculations, intricate business. உடைப்பு, v. noun. A breaking, a breach, the bursting of a bank, உடை க்கை. 2. s. A channel out or broken through a dam in a field, disruption, உடைந்தஅறுவாய். 3. Weakness, தளர்ச்சி. தலையுடைப்பு, v. noun. A trouble, some intricate employment. 102)

kruku (p. 96) கிறேன், கருகினேன், வேன், கருக, v. n. To be scorched, scarred, to darken, blacken by fire or the sun, to be tanned--as the countenance; to turn brown and sickly--as growing corn, &c.; to wither from want of water, to be burnt to tinder. சிரங்குகருகிப்போயிற்று. The itch is cured (dried, &c.). கொப்புளங்கருகிப்போயிற்று. The pustule is dried up. மருந்தெண்ணெய்கருகிப்போயிற்று. The medicinal oil is burnt. பயறுகருகிப்போயிற்று. The pulse is burnt in parching. கருகுமாலை, s. The dim evening twilight, மாலைவெளிச்சம். பல்லுக்கருக, inf. To turn dark as the teeth of a person on his death-bed-an indication of approaching death. முகங்கருக, inf. To darken--as the countenance from fear, anger, &c. மனங்கருக, inf. To be displeased, to have the affection alienated. உதடுகருக, inf. To become dried --as the lip. பயிர்கருக, inf. To become sickly --as growing corn. பொரியல்கருக, inf. To be burnt-as dried food. ஈரற்கருக, inf. To be smitten with anguish, fear, shame, &c. கருகல், s. Rice, curry, &c., burnt in cooking, கரிந்தது. 2. Betel leaves, grain or other vegetation scorched and blackened by the sun, கருகிப்போனது. 3. Obscurity in language, abstruseness, மறைபொருளானது. 4. Dimness of the evening twilight, dusk, மாலைவெளிச்சம். 5. v. noun. Being partially charred, or scorched, scarred, embrowned, tanned, தீதல். கருகலானபொரியல், s. A burnt stew or fry. கருகல்வெற்றிலை, s. Betel leaves tanned by the sun. கருகற்சோறு, s. Burnt rice. கருகற்புண், s. A healed or dried sore. 123)

kruttu (p. 96) s. object, design, intention, purpose, motive, எண்ணம். 2. Wish, desire, inclination, விருப்பம். 3. Meaning, import, sense, signification, scope, matter, purport, தாற்பரியம். 4. You will find it if you look for it carefully. சாப்பாட்டிலேகருத்தில்லை. I have no inclination for food. கருத்தறிய, inf. To know one's design, intention, &c., உட்கருத்தைத்தெரிய. கருத்தாளி, s. A person of genius, Judgement, discrimination, acumen, penetration, discernment, புத்திசாலி. கருத்தானபாட்டு, s. A poem abstruse and full of meaning. கருத்துக்கொள்ள, inf. To have a mind for a thing--as for labor, food, learning, &c., to be inclined to. கருத்துப்பிசகு, s. A wrong construction, or erroneous interpretation. கருத்துப்பிரிய, inf. To occur to the mind--as a good idea, plan, &c. 2. to be understood, comprehended, &c.--as an idea. கருத்துப்பொருள், s. Mental objects as opposed to காட்சிப்பொருள்--an object of sense. கருத்துரை, s. A commentary giving the scope of the text, பொழிப்புரை. கருத்துரைக்க, inf. To give the scope or substance of the text as a commentator, &c. கருத்துவெளிப்படுத்த, inf. To disclose one's intention, to make known one's opinion, &c. கருத்தெடுக்க, inf. To devise, invent a scheme, lay a project, discover the sense of a passage, to find out a meaning, கருத்தைக்காண. கருத்தொட்ட, inf. To consture a difficult, passage, to put a construction on a passage, 2. To construe by supplying what is wanting. 3. To wrest or distort an author's meaning. 4. To meditate (as on the Deity), to apply the mind closely. வஞ்சகக்கருத்து, s. A deceitful design, treachery. கவிக்கருத்து, s. An author's meaning. 2. The meaning of a poem. கள்ளக்கருத்து, s. A sly purpose, a sinister view, cunning, dissimulation. நூற்கருத்து, s. The meaning of a book, rule, passage, &c. 2. The opinion of an author as given in his writing. 146) *

citākācam (p. 182) s. The wide expanse or sphere of pure intelligence; intelligence which knows no bounds. (உபநிட.) According to the doctrine of the Adwitas, the all-pervading spirit, God or the intellectual ether--the air being to him as a body; or as some say, the vacuum in the mind of the abstract worshipper, by which all abstructions to the view of every thing in the universe is removed, and he enjoys perfect felicity, ஞானாகாசம்; [ex சித் et ஆகாசம்.] Compare கடாகாசம், மகாகாசம் and மேகாகாசம். 40) *

Criticalness, exactness, accuracy, திட்பம்; [ex நுண்.] நுட்பஆராய்ச்சி--நுட்பஆராய்வு, v. noun. Close consideration. நுட்பங்காட்ட, inf. To explain the minute points of a science. நுட்பபுத்தி, s. Acute understanding, as நுண்ணறிவு. நுட்பமறிய, inf. To be acquainted with the subtleties, and abstrusities of a science. நுட்பமானகருத்து, s. Acumen. 2. A fine or subtle idea. நுட்பவுரை, s. nuṇuku (p. 277) கிறது, நுணுகினது, ம், நுணுக, v. n. [prov.] To be, or become, or be made small, fine, minute, நுண்மையாக. 2. To be subtle, abstruse, குறுக. 3. To be sharp, acute, ingenious, கூர்மையாக. நுணுகியஎழுத்து, s. Very small writing. நுணுகினமனம், s. As acute mind. 335)

nuṇ (p. 277) adj. Minute, fine, small, subtile, slender, கூர்மையான. 2. s. A particle, atom. அணு. நுண்ணறிவு--நுண்ணியஅறிவு, s. Acute understanding, penetration, discrimination, acumen, நுட்பபுத்தி. நுண்ணிச்சிறை, s. [contraction of நுண் ணியசிறை.] The name of a small bird, கொசுக்கட்டைக்குருவி. நுண்ணிடை--நுண்மருங்குல், s. A slender waist, சிற்றிடை. 2. [met.] A lady, a woman, பெண். (p.) நுண்ணிமை, s. [vul.] Fineness, minuteness, sharpness, &c., as நுண்மை. நுண்ணிய, adj. As நுண். நுண்ணியகருமமெண்ணித்துணி. In entering on a delicate affair, reflect well. நுண்ணியது, appel. n. That which is small, minute or subtile, நுண்மையானது. 2. A skilful contrivance, a thing curiously wrought, நுட்பவேலை. நுண்ணியபுத்தி, s. Acute intellect, acumen. நுண்ணியர், s. [pl.] Persons of acute mind, quick parts, good discrimination, &c., அறிவுடையோர். 2. Ministers of state, மந்திரியர். (p.) நுண்ணுணர்வு, s. Acute understanding, &c., as நுண்ணறிவு. நுண்பிண்டி, s. neruṭu (p. 280) s. Rubbing with the fingers, நிமிண்டுகை. 2. Rubbing or twisting two ends of yarn between the finger and thumb to join them, இழைப்பொருத்து. 3. Feeling, groping with the hands, தடவுகை. 4. Knots in cloth from the joinings of the yarn, நூல்நெருடு. 5. [com. நெரடு.] Knotty or abstruse as a passage which is obscure or difficult in construction, கருகல். 6. Rugged or difficult of utterance, from the collocation of certain letters, சொற்சங்கடம். 7. Indistinctness in writing, one stroke running into another, &c., மயக்கவெழுத்து. 8. Guile, deceit, intrigue, வஞ்சனை. (c.) நெருடன்--நெருடுள்ளவன், s. pulmai (p. 326) s. Wisdom, knowledge, learning, கல்வி. 2. Talent in composition, poetic ability, பாண்டித்தியம். புலமையர்--புலமையோர், s. [pl.] Poets, the learned, புலவர்.--Note. Poets are of four classes: 1. கவி, one who composes any of the four kinds of poetry, called ஆசு, மதுரம், சித்திரம், வித்தாரம். See கவி; 2. கமகன், one who treats abstruse subjects in a natural and agreeable manner; 3. வாதி, one who by adducing reasons, and quoting authors, confutes the doctrines of another and establishes his own; 4. வாக்கி, one who treats on the four classes of subjects, அறம், பொருள், இன்பம், வீடு, and is thus a rhetorician in ethics. 21)
