Some reckon the following four kinds; viz.: 1. தன்பொருட் டனுமானம். 2. பிறர்பொருட்டனுமானம். 3. அன் னுவயவனுமானம். 4. வெதிரேகவனுமானம். Another. 1. பூர்வக்காட்சி, inference of a thing from previous knowledge of its properties--as when we see a flower, we identify it from its smell. 2. அனுமானவ னுமானம், inference from an inference--as when we infer that a man is learned from his mode of treating a subject. 3. ஆகமவனுமானம், inference from the rules of Agamas--as the punishment is owing to former deeds. 2. irṇṭu (p. 49) s. and adj. Two, இரண்டா மெண்.-- As an adjective prefix, it often becomes இரு and ஈர், double, இரட்டிப்பான-as இருநிறம், two colors, a double color; ஈர லகு, two syllables. See அலகு. இரண்டிலொன்றுசொல்லு. Say either this or that. நாடிரண்டுபட்டது. The country is divided into two factions. இரட்ட, inf. To double, repeat a motion, sound, action, &c., to reiterate. See இரட்டிக்க. இரட்டாங்காலி, s. [prov. prop. இரட்டைமரம்.] A double tree--especially of the palmyra species. இரட்டி, s. Double quantity, twice as much, இருபங்கு. அதற்கிரட்டிதருவேன். I will give double the quantity. பத்திரட்டி, s. Twice ten. இரட்டிக்க, inf. To double, repeat, reiterate, இரட்ட. 2. (c.) To return --as a disease, வியாதிமக்களிக்க. 3. To plough the second time, always crosswise, இரண்டாமுறையுழ. 4. To differ from, be discrepant, &c., வேறுபட. 5. To disagree--as different kinds of food eaten at once, to be indigested, போசனம் ஒவ்வா திருக்க. இந்தச்சாட்சியந்தச்சாட்சிக்கிரட்டிக்கிறது. This evidence differs from the other. மகரமிரட்டித்தது. The consonant ம், is doubled. நோயிரட்டிக்கின்றது. The pain is double what it was. 2. The disease has returned. இரட்டித்தசெலவு, s. Double expense. இரட்டித்துச்சொல்ல, inf. To repeat, say a thing a second time. 2. To make a discrepant statement, or a statement different from that of another. உழவிரட்டிக்க, inf. To plough the second time. இரட்டிப்பு, s. Two-fold, twice as much, a double quantity. 2. v. noun. Doubling, making two-fold. இரட்டு, s. Two-fold, இருமடங் கு. (p.) 2. (c.) Double-threaded cloth, either coarse or fine, sack-cloth, ஓர்வ கைச்சீலை. இரட்டுப்பை, s. A sack made of coarse cloth. இரட்டுறமொழிய, inf. To state a rule so that it may comprise another, the one plainly apparent, the other to be made out by study; or the use of terms of double meaning either of which serves to make good sense, though the ideas will be wholly different; or the use of terms by which one thing is employed and another implied. A kind of play, playing at odd and even. இரட்டைக்கிளவி, s. Double words imitating certain sounds, ஒலிக்கு றிப்பில்வருமிரட்டைமொழி--as சளசளவெனமழை த்தாரைகான்றன. A treatise written in confutation of the above. இருசீரகம், s. The two different kinds of சீரகம்--as நற்சீரகம் and கருஞ்சீரகம், which see. இருசுடர், s. The two lights--the sun and moon, சூரியசந்திரர். (p.) இருசுடர்த்தோற்றம், s. One of the divisions of பெருங்காப்பியம், சூரியசந்திரோத யங்களின்வருணனை. (p.) இருசுழி, s. A double curl as a mark. இருசுழியிருந்துண்டாலுமுண்ணும் இரந்துண்டா லுமுண்ணும். A person of a double curl may live in luxury or be reduced to beggary. இருதலைக்கொள்ளி, s. A brand burning at both ends. ஒருதலைக்கொள்ளிநடுவிலெறும்பைப்போலானே ன். I am like an ant between two fires; i. e. I am in straits. இருதலைப்பட்சி, s. A kind of bird fabled to have two heads. இருதலைமணியன், s. A snake said to have two heads--one at each end. இருதாரைக்கத்தி, s. Two-edged sword or knife. இருதிணை, s. The two classes உயர்திணை and அஃறிணை into which Tamil nouns are divided. (See திணை.) 2. The two classes into which creatures are divided, இயங்குதிணை and இயங்கரத்திணை, which see. (p.) இருநிதிக்கிழவன், s. Kuvêra, கு பேரன். (p.) இருநினைவு, s. Double-mindedness, oscillating or wavering disposition. இருபது, s. Twenty, (lit.) twice ten, ஓரெண். இருபாவிருபது, s. A poem consisting of ten வெண்பா and ten அகவல் stanzas, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். See பிரபந்தம். (p.) இருபிறப்பு, s. [literally.] Two births, இருசனனம்--said of persons or things twice born--as 1. The moon, சந்திரன். 2. Birds and other oviparous creatures, முட்டையிற்பிறப்பன. (See அண்ட சம்.) 3. The teeth, பல். 4. Feathers, சிறகு. 5. Brahmans, பார்ப்பார். (p.) இருபிறப்பாளர், s. The twiceborn caste--Brahmans; investiture with the sacred thread being deemed a kind or regeneration, அந்தணர். இருபெயரொட்டுப்பண்புத்தொகை, s. Omission of ஆகிய or ஆய where two nouns are used in opposition, ஓர்பண்புத் தொகை--as ஆதிபகவன். God the source (of all things.) இருபொருள், s. Learning and riches. See பொருள். (p.) இருமடங்கு, s. As much again, two-fold, இரண்டுபங்கு. இருமடியாகுபெயர், s. An ஆகு பெயர் of the second degree--as கார், black when used to signify a cloud is called ஆகுபெயர்; but when used for the rainy season, it is called இருமடியாகுபெயர். (p.) இருமணம், s. Pleasant and unpleasant odors, நற்கந்ததுர்க்கந்தங்கள். (p.) இருமரபு, s. The two ancestral lines--paternal and maternal, தாய்மரபு தந் தைமரபு. (p.) இருமனம், s. Hesitancy, dubiousness, doubt, irresolution, indecision. 2. Double-dealing, treachery. இருமை, s. Duality, a two-fold state, two, இருதன்மை. 2. The two states --the present and the future, or this life and that to come--whether as distinct from the body or as reunited with it in another birth, இம்மைமறுமை. (p.) இருவகைத்தோற்றம், s. The two classes of beings produced--சரம் and அச ரம். See தோற்றம். (p.) இருவாட்டித்தரை, s. [prov.] Land compounded of earth and clay, மணலுங் களிப்புமானநிலம். இருவாய்க்குருவி, s. A kind of bird, Hormbill, buceros, ஓர்குருவி. இருவினை, s. The two classes of moral actions--good and evil, in every one of which there is merit or demerit, leading to future births in which they are to be suffered or enjoyed, while they keep the soul from union with deity, நல்வினை தீவினை. (p.) ஈர். An adjective of இரண்டு, two --used before words beginning with vowels, &c., as இரு is used before consonants--as ஈராயிரம், two-thousand; இருபது, twenty. ஈரசைச்சீர், s. A poetic foot of two அசை, ஆசிரியச்சீர். (p.) ஈரடி, s. Two lines, இணையடி. (p.) 2. That which is bifurcate or two forked, கவர். 3. Doubtfulness, fluctuation, சந்தேகம். ஈரடிப்பயன், s. Ambiguity in conversation, equivocation, double-mindedness, உபயார்த்தம். 2. Double-dealing, acting under-handedly so as to suit both parties, கபடம். 3. Uncertainty, doubtfulness, சந்தேகம். 4. [prov.] Diverseness, disagreement--as of a report or account differently related, விகற்பம்; [ex அடி, step, course, et பயன், meaning.] ஈரடிப்பா, s. A stanza of two lines. (p.) ஈரடிமடக்கு, s. [in poetry.] Repetition of a foot or feet in two lines with different meanings, வந்தசொல்லேயிரண்டடி யினும்வரப்பாடுவது. See மடக்கு. ஈரடிவெண்பா, s. A kind of வெ ண்பா of two lines--the குறள்வெண்பா. (p.) ஈரடுக்கொலி, s. Reiterated words imitative of sound--as நெறுநெறென்றுமுறிந் தது, it broke with a reiterated crash; வண்டில்கடகடென்றோடிற்று, the carriage rolled along with a rattling noise. (p.) ஈரறம், s. The two kinds of அறம், or virtuous actions according to the shasters; viz.: இல்லறம், matrimony and its accompanying household virtues; and துறவறம், the virtues of ascetic practice. (p.) ஈரறிவுயிர், s. Beings that have the sense of feeling and tasting--as snails, shells, &c., பரிசமுஞ்சுவையுமறியும்நந்துமுதலிய செந்து. (p.) ஈராசிடைவெண்பா, s. A species of வெண்பா, with two ஆசு affixed to the end of the third foot of the second line. (p.) ஈராடி--ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] A changeable state of the wind and weather, previous to the change of monsoon, indicative of rain. 2. A calm, a lull, the failing of the wind at this season, காற்றினமைவு. 3. Fickleness, hesitation, fluctuation of mind, நிலையின்மை. இக்காரியத்திலென்மனமீராடிப்படுகின்றது. In this affair my mind wavers. ஈராட்டி, s. [prov.] Two wives. ஈரி, s. A play of girls, two stones being taken up from the ground while a third is tossed in the air, ஓர்விளையாட்டு. (c.) ஈரிலைப்பயிர், s. A young shoot when two leaves appear. ஈரிழை, s. Double-thread used in some kinds of cloth--as in muslin. ஈரிழைச்சல்லா, s. A muslin whose warp consists of two untwisted threads. ஈரீற்றா, s. A cow that has had two calves. (p.) ஈருடல், s. [in mythology.] Beings possessing the form, in part, of two bodies--as Vishnu manifested in the form of man and lion, இருதன்மைத்தாயவுடல். (p.) ஈருயிர்க்காரி, s. The two-lived --used of a pregnant female. (c.) ஈரெச்சம், s. See எச்சம். ஈரொட்டு, s. Uncertainty, doubt, crisis, criticalness, state of suspense, conditional bargain. (c.) நோயாளியின்காரியமீரொட்டாயிருக்கின்றது. The case of the patient is doubtful. ஈரொட்டாகச்சொல்ல, inf. To speak doubtfully, uncertainly, ambiguously. ஈரொட்டாகவாங்க, inf. To take things conditionally, that is, if approved; or, as a merchant, to pay for them if sold. 6)

ilayam (p. 53) s. Death, destruction, சா வு. 2. Absorption, transformation, involution, reduction of one element into another --as of earth into water; water into fire; fire into air; and air into ether, அடங்குகை. (See ஒடுக்கம்.) 3. Concealment, disappearance, ஒளிப்பு. 4. Dissolution, fusion, கரைவு. 5. Dancing, a kind of dance, கூத்தின்விகற்பம். Wils. p. 717.LAYA. (p.) இலயந்தப்பிப்போயிற்று. Destruction or loss is evaded. இலயகாலம், s. Time of destruction, end of the world. இலயக்கியானம்--இலயைக்கியான ம், s. The knowledge or science of beating drums, cymbals and other instrumental accompaniments, சங்கீதசுரக்கியானம். இலயஸ்தானம், s. The primitive of the evolved forms of nature, and of the transformations or assumed appearances of deity, into which they all become at last resolved, ஒடுங்குமிடம். இலயமாக, inf. To perish, to be destroyed. உற்பத்திஸ்திதிலயம், s. Creation, preservation and destruction. சீவலயம், s. Destruction of animated nature. சீவலயமானகாரியம், s. A destructive event. 38)

iẕ (p. 55) க்கிறேன், ந்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To lose, forfeit, to be bereaved of, to suffer loss, இழந்துபோக. இழப்பு, v. noun. Loss, privation, forfeiture, இழந்துவிடுகை. இழப்புணி, s. One who has lost a child, a husband, property, &c. இழவு, v. noun. Loss, deprivation, forfeiture, bereavement, நஷ்டம். 2. Death, மரணம். அந்தவீட்டிலேயிழவுபட்டபாடாயிருக்கிறது...... There is affliction in that house, as if a death had occurred there. இழவுகாத்தல், v. noun. [vul.] Keeping close to the house--as mourners till after the eighth day of the funeral ceremony. இழவுகாரன்--இழவுக்குரியவன், s. The chief mourner at the funeral. இழவுகொடுக்க--இழவுக்கடிக்க, inf. To mourn at a funeral, to condole with, to bewail the dead--as women do, beating their breasts, &c. அப்படிச்செய்துபோட்டு அவனோடே இழவு கொடுக்கிறதார்? Who will expose himself to be troubled by him, for doing so? இழவுகொண்டாடுதல், v. noun. Mourning for the dead, accompained by external gestures, lamentations, beating the breast, &c., either at the funeral, or at stated periods afterwards. இழவுக்குப்போக, inf. To go to condole with. இழவுசொல்ல, inf. To invite to, or notify concerning a funeral. இழவுவிழுதல், v. noun. Dying-a word used in imprecations, &c. அவனுக்கிழவுவிழ. May death fall upon him. இழவுவினவ, inf. To condole with mourners, inquiring after the dead, embracing, &c. இழவுவீடு, s. A house where a death has taken place. இழவோலை, s. A funeral notice or invitation, a funeral letter or ola, சாவோலை. 33)

uṭṉ (p. 59) s. A particle of time and place used in combination with other words and expressing co-existence, accompaniment--a form of the third case or the social ablative, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையின்சொல்லு ருபு. 2. Instantly, immediately, at once, அப்பொழுதே. உடனாளி, appel. noun. Companion, co-partner, கூட்டாளி. 2. (Rott.) A man of property. உடனிகழ்ச்சி--உடனிகழ்தல்--உ டனிகழ்வு, v. noun. Co-existing, happening simultaneously. 2. A term in grammar implying co-existence, concomitan cy. உடனிகழ்ச்சிப்பொருள். ஒடுவென்பதுடனிகழ்வைக்காட்டும். The particle ஒடு shows accompaniment. உடனிலைமயக்கம்--உடனிலைமெய் மயக்கம், s. [in orthography.] The combination of two consonants of the same kind--as அக்கம், அச்சம், opp. to வேற்றுநிலை மெய்மயக்கம். உடனுக்குடனே. The very instant, at the very juncture, immediately succeeding another event. பாம்புகடித்தவுடனுக்குடனேபிரயோகம்பண்ணிக் கொண்டான். He applied the remedy as soon as the snake bit him. உடனுற்றவன், s. A servant of the same class with another. உடனே, adv. Immediately. 2. prep. With, together with. ஒருசாமமானவுடனே. Immediately after the first watch. அவனதைச்சொன்னவுடனே. As soon as he had said it. என்னுடனேவா. Come along with me. உடனொத்தபங்காளி, s. An equal sharer. உடனொத்தவன், s. An equal, a fellow, an acquaintance, a compeer. உடன்கட்டையேற, inf. To ascend the funeral pile--as a Hindu widow with her deceased husband, அனுமரணம டைய; [ex கட்டை, log of wood.] உடன்கூட்டு, s. Co-partnership, fellowship, உடன்சேர்க்கை. உடன்கூட்டாளி, s. Co-partner, participator. உடன்கை. [prop. உடனே.] Immediately succeeding, just after, as soon as. வேலைசெய்துமுடிந்தவுடன்கையிலேகாசுகிடைக் கும். The wages will be paid as soon as the work is done. உடன்பங்காளி, s. A joint-sharer or participator, a co-partner, கூட்டுப்பங் காளி. 2. A co-heir, joint-heir, a brother's sons having a right to share in the family property, உடன்சுதந்தரவாளி. உடன்பங்கு, s. A joint-share, equal share (whether in trade, inheritance, land or otherwise), participation, joint-heirship, கூட்டுப்பங்கு. உடன்பட, inf. [com. உடம்பட.] To agree, assent, consent, acquiesce, harmonize with, சம்மதிப்பட. 2. To engage, contract, form a compact, பொருந்த. 3. To undertake, enter upon, உடம்படிக்கை செய்ய. 4. To answer in the affirmative, மறாதிருக்க. 5. To be privy to, to have a hand in, சேர. 6. To yield, submit, comply, இசைய. உடன்படிக்கை, s. [com. உடம்ப டிக்கை.] A contract, agreement, compact, covenant, engagement, &c., written or verbal, சம்மதிப்பத்திரம். 2. A promise, assurance, உறுதிப்பாடு. உடன்படுத்த, inf. To induce consent, to make willing, சம்மதிப்படுத்த. 2. To unite, reconcile, இசைவிக்க. உடன்படுவிலக்கு, s. A figure of speech by which a negation is couched in affirmative words--as அப்போதடுப்ப தறியேனருள்செய்ய இப்போதிவளுமிசைகின்றாள்-தப்பில், பொருளோபுகழோதரப்போவீர்மாலை இரு ளோநிலவோவெழும். (அலங்காரம்.) உடன்பட்டகடமை, s. A covenanted obligation. உடன்பாடு--உடம்பாடு, s. Harmony, concord, union, fellowship, agreement, பொருத்தம். 2. Compact, covenant, engagement, உடம்படிக்கை. 3. Consent, assent, compliance, acquiescence, சம்மதிக் கை. 4. Being concerned in, complicity, உடந்தை. 5. Affirmation, மறாமை. 6. [in grammar.] Positive or affirmative--as opposed to negative terms, or negative forms of expression, விதி. உடம்பாடிலாதவர்வாழ்க்கைகுடங்கருட்பாம்போ டுடனுறைந்தற்று. Those who live in discord are as if enclosed in a vessel with a live snake. உடன்பாட்டுவினை, s. A verb in the affirmative form, விதிவினை. உடன்பிறந்தவர்கள்--உடன்பிறந் தார், s. Own full brothers or sisters. உடன்பிறந்தார்சுற்றத்தாரென்றிருக்கவேண்டாம். Because born with you, do not imagine them to be your friends. உடன்பிறப்பு, s. [impr. உடப்பிறப் பு.] Connascence, கூடப்பிறக்கை. 2. Offspring of the same parents, an own brother or sister. 87)

ēẕu (p. 79) . Seven, septuple, seven fold, ஓரெண்.--Note. Seven is considered a special or sacred number. As a prefix it is often எழு or ஏழ். எழுகடல்--ஏழ்கடல், s. The seven oceans. எழுநிலைக்கோபுரம், s. A tower seven stories high. எழுநிலைமாடம், s. A palace seven stories high, lit. with seven door frames one above another. எழுபிறப்பு--ஏழ்பவம்--ஏழ்பிறப் பு, s. The seven different living beings, viz.: 1. தேவர், supernals. 2. மக்கள், men. 3. விலங்கு, beasts. 4. பறவை, birds. 5. ஊர்வன, reptiles. 6. நீர்வாழ்வன, aquatic creatures. 7. தாவரம், immovable things --as trees, plants. ஏழடிபின்போக, inf. To accompany a poet or learned person seven steps on his departure. ஏழத்தனை. Seven-fold. ஏழரை--எழரையாண்டுச்சனி, s. The period of saturn's evil influence being seven-and-half years. See மங்கு சனி, பொங்குசனி, மரணசனி. ஏழனுருபு, s. The seventh case or local ablative, ஏழாம்வேற்றுமையுருபு. ஏழாங்கால், s. The first post of the marriage-shed when planted on the seventh day before the wedding, a lucky day being chosen. ஏழுகோணம், s. A heptagon, septangular figure. ஏழுதீவு, s. The seven continents. ஏழுபருவம், s. The seven stages of life. See பருவம். ஏழுலகம், s. The seven worlds, including the earth and six supernal worlds. ஏழேழு, s. Seven times seven. 2. Seven of each, எவ்வேழு. ஏழேழுதலைமுறை, s. Seven generations, the duplication of the numeral indicating and equal number of generations both on the side of husband and wife. ஏழ்பரியோன், s. The sun as drawn by seven green horses, ஆதித்தன். ஏழ்புரி, s. The seven sacred cities, also witten ஏழ்புர, and ஏழ்தலம். See புரி. ஈரேழுலகம், s. The fourteen worlds, viz.: seven supernal and seven infernal. See உலகம். ஏழ்சுரம், s. The seven sounds of the diatonic scale. எவ்வேழு, s. Seven of, to, for, or from each, seven by seven. 74)

oṭungku (p. 81) கிறேன், ஒடுங்கினேன், வே ன், ஒடுங்க, v. n. To shrink, become reduced, compressed, closed, contracted, narrow, to lessen, to abate, crouch, lie within a small compass, diminish, grow less--as a globe from the centre to the poles, அடங்க. 2. To be restrained--as the senses, desires, &c., புலனொங்க. 3. To give place, recede, pass on one side--as in meeting a superior; to shrink within one's self, showing reverence, taking off the mantle, turban, sandals, &c.; to creep along sideways, ஒதுங்க. 4. To be reduced in circumstances, power, prosperity, in show, in expenditure, in the mental or bodily faculties, energies, &c., to grow lean, be reduced in size, whether by disease, want of food, or otherwise, குறைய. 5. To cease-as noise, bustle, stir, &c., அமைய. 6. To sink or retire--as the soul in sleep, fainting, or through the different stages at death, சோர. 7. To become dissolved or involved one within another--as the elements, worlds, &c., till all is absorbed in the deity, பூதங்களொடுங்க. 8. To end, terminate, cease, முடிய. 9. To obey, submit, கீழ்ப்படிய. 1. To be concealed, பதுங்க. 11. To be packed, stowed away, செறிய. 12. To be retrenched, சுருங்க. 13. To disappear, become absorbed, dissolved--as salt in water, &c., கரைய. 14. To grow dim-as a light, a heavenly body, &c., to become extinct--as light by passing into its previous elements or ether, ஒளிமழுங்க. மாடுநுகத்தைக்கண்டொடுங்குகிறது. The ox has assumed a sickly appearance; or it shrinks at the sight of the yoke. ஊணொடுங்கவீணொடுங்கும். If his food be reduced, his dissipation will cease. உலகுதோன்றினமுறையேயொடுங்கும். The world will be reduced to its primeval elements in the order in which it was educed. ஆளொடுங்கினவேளைபார்த்துவந்தான். He watched for an opportunity and came when all was still (for plunder, &c.). கலிமுதிரமுதிரப்பெரியவர்களொடுங்கிவிட்டார்கள்... As the iron age advances, the great are reduced. ஒடுங்கலில்பல்கலை. The various sciences which are unlimited. குளிராலொடுங்க, inf. To shrink with cold. ஒடுங்கி, s. A tortoise, ஆமை. ஒடுக்கம், v. noun. Narrowness, straitness, closeness, வழியொடுக்கம். 2. Contraction into itself--as the tortoise, an elastic substance, &c., சுருங்குகை. 3. Retirement within doors, abatement, concealment by stooping and creeping along--as a man to shoot, or a tiger to spring on its prey, &c., பதுங்குகை. 4. Suppression, contraction, reduction, நெருக்கம். 5. Reverence, self-restraint, modesty, அ டக்கம். 6. Involution--as of the elements one into another, absorption, dissolution, disappearance--as of salt in water, ஒன்றிலொன்றடங்குகை. 7. Cessation (of noise, bustle, stir--as by night in time of epidemics, &c.), quietude, calmness, stillness, அமைவு. 8. Sinking as the soul through its different stages at death, gradual reduction--as of circumstances, the powers of the body by age, &c., பலமுதலியவொடுங்குகை. 9. s. End, close, termination, முடிவு. ஒடுக்கத்திலேயொன்றுமில்லை. At the end nothing (of earth) will accompany us, remain, avail, &c. அவனுக்குச்சாப்பாடொடுக்கமாய்ப்போயிற்று. His food is diminished in quantity. காரியமொடுக்கத்தில்வந்தது. The matter has resolved itself into a narrow compass. காரியமொடுக்கமாயிருக்கின்றது. The business, provision, ceremony, &c., is on a small scale. ஒடுக்கநாள், s. A day of distress. ஒடுக்கமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not restrain himself, his passions, desires, &c. 2. One who does not pay proper respect to his superiors. ஒடுக்கம்பார்த்துவர, inf. To attack a house, a city, when in a defenceless state, or by night when all are asleep. ஒடுக்கவணக்கம், s. Modest deportment, reverence, veneration. பனியொடுக்கம், s. The fall of heavy dew when all is still. காற்றொடுக்கம், s. A calm, a lull, absence of wind. புலனொடுக்கம், s. Restraint of the senses. 2. Absorption of the senses by sleep, syncope, the approach of death, &c., unconsciousness, stupor. 49)

ottu (p. 82) s. The native bag-pipe which leads in music, ஓரிசைக்குழல். 2. Agreement in time in singing and dancing, தாள வொத்து. 3. Measuring or beating time for singing, &c., ஒத்தறுக்கை. 4. Sounding the key note--as an accompaniment to the music, ஒத்திசை. ஒத்தறுக்க, inf. To beat time generally on the cymbal, sometimes on the hand for regulating music and dancing, தாளம்போட. ஒத்திசை, s. Musical harmony, symphony, concert, ஒத்தஇசை. ஒத்துப்பாட, inf. To sing in concert, in unison, in accordance with the dance. &c. ஒத்துப்பிடிக்க--ஒத்தூத, inf. To sound the key note with the ஒத்து pipe, ஒத்துவாசிக்க. ஒத்துப்போட, inf. To beat the cymbals as an accompaniment to dancing. 10)

oṟṟai (p. 84) s. One of a pair, ஒன்று. 2. Odd numbers--as 1, 3, 5, &c., odd, ஒற் றையெண். 3. Singleness, தனிமை. 4. Soleness, uniqueness, absoluteness, தன்னந்தனி. 5. A leaf in a book, தனியேடு. 6. A row of small patches of ground in a corn-field, adjoining one side of a cross channel. ஒற்றையோஇரட்டையோ. Is it even or odd? ஒற்றிக்க, inf. v. n. To be odd as numbers--as 1, 3, 5, ஒற்றைப்பட. 2. To be unwavering, be settled in mind or purpose, to be decided, ஒன்றுபட. ஒற்றித்தமனம், s. A single mind, sincerity. 2. Freedom from doubt, decision of mind. ஒற்றித்தவெண், s. Odd numbers, ஒற்றைப்பட்டவெண். ஒற்றைக்கண்ணன், s. Venus, சுக் கிரன். 2. kuvera, குபேரன். (p.) ஒற்றைக்குடை, s. An unique umbrella--an emblem of independent sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்குடையினாளுதல், v. noun. Exercising absolute sovereignty. ஒற்றைக்கொம்பன், s. Ganesa, the single-tusked--as an elephant, the other tusk having been broken off, வினாயகன். ஒற்றைச்சார், s. [prov.] A house without an area in the centre. ஒற்றைத்தாலி, s. A single wedding ornament without the accompaniments which are sometimes added on a future day. See சங்குந்தாலியும். ஒற்றைத்தாழ்ப்பூட்டு, s. A lock with a single bolt or a single lock. ஒற்றைத்துலா, s. A well-lever formed of one solid timber, ஒற்றையேற்றம். See மூட்டுத்துலா or நெம்புத்துலா. ஒற்றைநூல், s. A three-twined sacred thread--as worn by a bachelor. ஒற்றைநூற்புடவை, s. Single threaded cloth, தனியிழை. ஒற்றைப்படவெண்ணுதல், v. noun. Counting by odd numbers. 2. Counting things one by one. ஒற்றைப்பட்டு, s. One of several strings of a necklace, folds, strands. ஒற்றைப்பட்டுமணி, s. A single necklace. ஒற்றைப்பார்ப்பான், s. A single brahman, whose sight is deemed inauspicious whether as the first object in the morning, or at any time on leaving home for some special purpose. ஒற்றைப்புரிக்கயிறு, s. ōmam (p. 84) s. A burnt offering, the casting of clarified butter, the nine kinds of grain, &c., into the sacred fire, accompanied with prayers, &c. It forms an essential part of the marriage ceremony and is performed at the அந்தியேட்டி, a chief ceremony for deceased persons and in the worship of the temple, &c. In poetry the burnt sacrifice of animals, யாகம். Wils. p. 98. HOMA. ஓமகுண்டம், s. A hole made in the ground for sacrificial fire. Wils. p. 78. HOMAKUNDA. ஓமசாந்தி, s. Mitigating, propitiating by fire, அக்கினிசாந்தி. 2. Burnt offering at a marriage to propitiate the god of fire who is thus invoked as a witness of the transaction, விவாகத்திற்செய்யுமோம சாந்தி. 3. Any additional sacrifice performed to obtain pardon for having omitted certain ceremonies in a sacrifice, யாகசாந்தி. ஓமஞ்செய்ய, inf. To perform a burnt sacrifice, அக்கினிகாரியஞ்செய்ய. ஓமதிரவியம், s. The requisites for a sacrifice including the firewood, &c., யாகஉபகரணம். ஓமப்பொடி, s. The ashes of the ஓமம்--deemed sacred, and used for smearing the person, யாகநீறு. ஓமமண்டபம், s. A sacrificial hall, யாகசாலை. ஓமம்வளர்க்க, inf. To kindle and feed the sacrificial fire which should never be suffered to go out; to attend to this is the special duty of the student or பிரமசாரி. ஓமவிறகு, s. [vul.] A rumor, report, spreading as a rumor, ஊர்ப்பேச்சு. ஊருக்கோமல்வீட்டுக்குவயிற்றெரிச்சல். He has the name of being a rich man, but in his house there is want and misery. ஓமற்படுதல்--ஊரோமல், v. noun. Spreading as a rumor, being rumored. உன்னாலிந்தாகசியம்ஊரோமலாச்சுதே. To ascertain clearly, to know certainly, தெளிய. 2. To determine, resolve firmly, be decided in purpose either in a good or evil course, துணிய. 3. To remember, to bear in mind benefits, to be grateful, &c., to be deeply sensible of one's obligations for favor received, மறவாமலிருக்க. 4. To have an abiding sense of the importance of virtue and religion, சன்மார்க்கத்திலுறுதியாயி ருக்க. 5. To have an unwavering faith in the essentials of religion, to embrace or take firm hold of religious instructions, &c., தேவபத்தியிலுறுதியாயிருக்க. 6. To grasp, resort to--as the soul for its last refuge, பற்ற. 7. To provide, be provident, be economical, வீண்செலவுசெய்யாது வைக்க. (p.) கதவிலரேதற்சார்ந்தார்வண்ணங்கடைப்பிடியாதார். A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. To be enlarged-said of the genitals of a cow, &c., before yeaning, ஈனுங்காலத்திற்குறிவிரிய. கடைவள்ளல், s. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s.
