To rise as water; to ascend as a paper kite; to rise towards the meridian as a heavenly body, மேலெழ. 3. To become proud, vain, self-conceited, consequential, to be elated, இறுமாக்க. 4. To grow dim-as a light, a heavenly body, &c., to become extinct--as light by passing into its previous elements or ether, ஒளிமழுங்க. மாடுநுகத்தைக்கண்டொடுங்குகிறது. The ox has assumed a sickly appearance; or it shrinks at the sight of the yoke. ஊணொடுங்கவீணொடுங்கும். If his food be reduced, his dissipation will cease. உலகுதோன்றினமுறையேயொடுங்கும். The world will be reduced to its primeval elements in the order in which it was educed. ஆளொடுங்கினவேளைபார்த்துவந்தான். He watched for an opportunity and came when all was still (for plunder, &c.). கலிமுதிரமுதிரப்பெரியவர்களொடுங்கிவிட்டார்கள்... As the iron age advances, the great are reduced. ஒடுங்கலில்பல்கலை. The various sciences which are unlimited. குளிராலொடுங்க, inf. To shrink with cold. ஒடுங்கி, s. A tortoise, ஆமை. ஒடுக்கம், v. noun. Narrowness, straitness, closeness, வழியொடுக்கம். 2. Contraction into itself--as the tortoise, an elastic substance, &c., சுருங்குகை. 3. Retirement within doors, abatement, concealment by stooping and creeping along--as a man to shoot, or a tiger to spring on its prey, &c., பதுங்குகை. 4. End, close, termination, முடிவு. ஒடுக்கத்திலேயொன்றுமில்லை. At the end nothing (of earth) will accompany us, remain, avail, &c. அவனுக்குச்சாப்பாடொடுக்கமாய்ப்போயிற்று. From this word id derived the symbolic verb கடிது. (3d person sing.) It is severe, &c., with any of the meanings of கடுமை. கடிசு, v. noun. Being too perpendicular, too little bent-- as a hoe, adze, &c., to the handle, or a plough-share to the shaft, நிமிர்வு--opp. to தணிசு. கடிச்சை, s. Niggardliness, உலோ பகுணம். கடிச்சைக்காரன், s. In Sanscrit compounds the word retains its Sanscrit pronunciation, கிரியா. கிரியாகாண்டம், s. Those parts of the Vedas which inculcate works, rites, and ceremonies, கருமகாண்டம்--opposed to ஞா னகாண்டம். கிரியாங்கம், s. Worship, rites and ceremonies, chiefly applicable to prescribed individual practice--as preparing the sacred ashes, repeating the incantations, touching the joints of the fingers while repeating them, &c., கிரியையுறுப்பு. கிரியாங்கம்பண்ண, inf. To perform the several external actions in the daily worship. கிரியாசத்தி, s. lit. The operative energy or power. [in the agama philosophy.] One of the three active or female energies of Siva, by which he effects the creation or evolution of the universe. 2. the faculty or power of action, operation, &c., as applied to any agent. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியாசாதனம், s. Being trained or inured to the performance of works, religious duties, &c., கிரியையனுட்டிப்பு. கிரியாசைவம், s. One of the sixteen divisions of the Siva system. See சைவம். கிரியாசொரூபன், s. One who is the embodiment, கிரியை; (appropriately) Ganesa, who is considered the impersonation of Siva's divine operations. கிரியாதீதன், s.கிரியையொழிந்தவன். கிரியாபதம், s. [in Sanscrit grammar.] A verb, வினைச்சொல். கிரியாபாதம், s. The second of the four stages or degrees in the Siva worship; [ex கிரியை, et பாதம்.] கிரியாபூசை, s. The worship offered to Siva by one in the second degree. (p.) கிரியாமார்க்கம், s. The practice of duties in the second degree of the Siva religion; the performance of rites and ceremonies, கிரியைநெறி. கிரியாமாலை, s. Inflection or conjugation of verbs, chiefly in Sanscrit, வினைச் சொல்லின்ரூபகரணம். கிரியாவதி, s. A person who practices the rites and ceremonies enjoined in the Vedas. கிரியாவுத்திரி, s. Transcendental and symbolical instruction in the most spiritual rites, by a guru to an advanced disciple--opposed to ஞானாவுத்திரி. (சிவ. சி.) கிரியைகெட்டது, appel. noun. Any thing disorderly, slovenly, ஒழுங்கற்றது. கிரியைகெட்டவன், s. One destitute of good manners, slovenly in dress, or irregular in habits. கிரியைக்காரன், s. One in the second degree of the Siva religion. கிரியைக்கேடு, s. slovenliness, debauchery, beastliness, ஒழுங்கின்மை. கிரியைசெய்ய, inf. To perform actions, duties, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 2. To perform funeral rites, உத்திரகிரியைசெய்ய. கிரியையனுட்டிக்க, inf. To perform rites, and ceremonies. 2. To practice the daily rites, to perform the duties of the second degree. கிரியையொழிந்தவன், s. One who has dispensed with works, having attained a higher degree, கிரியாபாதங்கடந்தவன். காட்டுக்கிரியை, s. Obsequies, funeral rites in the place of burning or burial --as distinguished from வீட்டுக்கிரியை. 2) *

kiruttiyam (p. 111) s. Act, actions, performances, operation, தொழில். 2. Moral actions good or bad, involving future retributions, கன்மக்கிரியை. 3. A course of conduct, நடக்கை. 4. Work, business, employment, லௌகிகவேலை. 5. Religious rules, prescribed duties, கடமை. 6. Rites, ceremonies, &c., religious acts or practice, சடங்கு. 7. The operations of the deity--popularity in the characters of creator, preserver and destroyer; but in the mystic parts of the Agama system, the works of obscuring and enlightening the soul are superadded. Wils. p. 243. KRUTYA. தன்கிருத்தியந்தான்பார்க்கவேண்டும். Each one must perform his appropriate duties, personal, social, relative, civil, &c. கிருத்தியகர்த்தா, s. An operating deity, or a god who performs either of the five great operations in the universe. கிருத்தியகர்த்தாக்கள், s. (pl.) Agents who carry on operations in the universe; also, those of the விஞ்ஞானகலர் and பிர ளயாகலர் class of souls that have advanced so as to be cleansed from மலம், and permitted to be operative. கிருத்தியப்பிழை, s. Misdeeds, misbehaviour. 2. Failure or transgression in the performance of prescribed rites, ceremonies or other duties. கிருத்தியமில்லாதவன், s. One who does not practise the rites of the religion. ஒருகிருத்தியமுமில்லாதவன். One unemployed. கிருத்தியமுடிக்க, inf. To perform prescribed duties--as religious rites, ceremonies, &c. கிருத்தியம்பண்ண--கிருத்தியம்நடத்த inf. To perform the works of creation, &c..--as a deity, ஐந்தொழில்செய்ய. The direct object of this work is fancied to be; 1. To cleanse the soul from its moral defilements. 2. To cause it to experience the fruit of former actions. 3. To give it a temporary rest. 4. To produce an equilibrium between the good and evil actions of the soul. 5. To emancipate it from the பாசம் entanglements. (சிவ. சி.) 2. To perform works, rites, &c., சடங்குசெய்ய. 3. To perform the duties of one's calling, தொழில்செய்ய. 4. To perform the funeral rites for a deceased ancestor, உத்தரகிரியைசெய்ய. பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், s. The five operations of deity under various names, forms and modifications, viz.: 1st. சிருட்டி or படை த்தல், the work of creating or transforming matter, evolving it from the primitive Maya, producing words, furnishing the soul with its appropriate body, according to its actions in a previous birth, &c. In the popular system, this office is ascribed to Brahma. 2d.திதி or காத்தல், the work of preserving, usually ascribed to Vishnu. 3d. சங்காரம் or அழித்தல், the work of destroying, or of reducing the universe to the primitive Maya, through numerous involutions, --as earth into water, water into fire, &c. This office is ascribed to உருத்தி ரன், who by his worshippers is identified with Siva whom they consider supreme. 4th. திரோபவம் or மறைத்தல், the work of obscuration, or the veiling of the soul in moral darkness, and beclouding the understanding, so that the divine being cannot be perceived, while the mind attracted and illuded by visible and sensual objects, is excited to the performance of new actions, by which absolute liberation from பாசம் entanglements is prevented, and connection with Maya and its consequent transmigrations--except where the sanchita (சஞ்சிதம்) of former births is exhausted --is indefinitely prolonged. This is ascribed to மயேச்சுரன். 5th. அனுக்கிரகம் or அருளல், this is a work of benevolence as exerted for the benefit of the soul in furnishing it with appropriate bodies by which to expiate the guilt of former actions, though obscuring it with திரோ பவம், while it is thus working itself clear, at length withdrawing the veil and showing it that all visible and sensual objects are illusory and deceptive; also annihilating the passions and exciting disgust toward the objects of sense, and utter indifference to all mundane affairs, and thus causing entire cessation from physical and moral actions, and maturing it for final emancipation, and union with the Supreme. It is ascribed to சதாசிவம். சமுசாரகிருத்தியம், s. Domestic affairs, household business. 10) *

kukkuṭam (p. 114) s. A gallinacious fowl, a cock, a hen, கோழி. Wils. p. 224. KUKKUTA. குக்குடபுடம், s. A fire made of ten எருவருட்டி (dried cow-dung) to the height of a fowl, for preparing medicines. குக்குடசர்ப்பம், s. The winged serpent, பறவைநாகம். --Note. Hindu ophiologists say that certain serpents become shorter and shorter, and at the advanced age of 12 years, the hood spreading as wings, they fly. குக்குடச்சூட்டு, s.
