அகணிதம்
akaṇitam (p. 1) s. [priv. அ et கணிதம்.] Innumerable quantity, கணக்கின்மை. 2. Mental calculation, counting differently from the usual mode, மனக்கணிதம்; (p.)-Note. The words beginning with அ and having a negative sense are generally formed in the same manner. அகணித பஞ்சாங்கம், s. An almanac made by mental calculation. 26) *

akatti (p. 2) s. A class of leguminous trees, Coronilla grandiflora, L., including three species, the leaves of which are edible, ஓர்மரம். c. Wils. p. 5. AGASTY. சாழையகத்தி, s. A fruit tree. செவ்வகத்தி, s. A small tree with red flowers. சிற்றகத்தி, s. A small tree used for medicine. 2)
அகத்திணை
akttiṇai (p. 2) s. Rules for amatory poems, &c. opp. to புறத்திணை. 2. Mental delectation, especially in love, அகத்துநிகழொழுக் கம். See அகப்பொருள். (p.) அகத்திணைப்புறம், s. as அகப்புறப் பொருள் or கைக்கிளையும் பெருந்திணையும். Voluptuous desire on the part of one only in sexual intercourse. (p.) 4) *
அகத்தியன்
akattiyaṉ (p. 2) --அகஸ்தியன், s. A poet and sage celebrated in the Ramayanam, Skandam and other works of antiquity. He is regarded as the former of the Tamil language which he is said to have learned of Skanda the son of Siva. He is also the reputed author of several works, still extant, in whole or in part, in the Tamil language; such as, a Grammar, Materia Medica, a work on Astrology, Astronomy, and several essays on the unity of the divine being, as opposed to the popular system of polytheism, &c. He is regarded as the son of both Mythra and Varuna by Urvasi; is represented to be of very short stature, and to have been born in a water jar. He is famed for having compressed and swallowed the ocean, for the sake of the celestials. Other wonderful stories are also told of him, and received with undoubted credence. He is considered as the regent of the star Canopus, குறுமுனி. Wils. p. 5. AGASTYA. அகத்தியர்குழம்பு, s. A famous compound cathartic. See குழம்பு. 6)

akantai (p. 2) s. Pride, self-conceit, arrogance, insolence, இறுமாப்பு. (c.) அகந்தையினாலழிதல். Falling by pride. 8)

akppā (p. 2) s. A parapet or raised area within a fortification, மதிலுண்மேடை. 2. A surrounding wall, மதில். 3. A ditch round a fort, அகழ். (p.) 15)
அகப்புறம்
akppuṟm (p. 2) s. Enjoyment in love on the part of one only, கைக்கிளையும் பெ ருந்திணையும். 2. Ten enjoyments treated of in the book called அகப்பொருள், viz., காந்தள், வள்ளி, சுரநடை, முதுபாலை, தாபதம், தபுதாரம், குற்றி சை, குறுங்கலி, இல்லாண்முல்லை, and பாசறை முல்லை. (p.) அகப்புறத்திணை--அகப்புறப்பொ ருள், s. as அகப்புறம். Partial enjoyment in love. (p.) அகப்புறப்பாட்டு, s. A poem made concerning any of the 1 things mentioned in அகப்புறம். (p.) 19)
அகப்பை
akppai (p. 2) s. A ladle or large spoon. usually of cocoanut shell, சட்டுவம். (c.) அகப்பைக்காம்பு, s. Handle of a ladle. தட்டகப்பை, s. A ladle used in cooking cakes, com. சட்டகப்பை. சாந்தகப்பை, s. [prov.] A trowel. சிற்றகப்பை, s. A small kind of ladle. 21)
அகப்பொருள்
akpporuḷ (p. 2) s. [ex. அகம், mind, et பொருள்.] Rules for amatory poems, அ கப்பொருள்விதி. 2. Rules for reasoning, தர்க் கவிதி. 3. mental enjoyments in love, இன் பம். 4. A book treating of mental delectation, ஓரிலக்கணம். அகப்பொருள் is developed in these three constituents, viz., 1. முதற்பொருள், primary arrangements of nature with regard to (a) நிலம், soil, in five varieties, and (b) பொழுது, time in two grand divisions. 2. கருப்பொருள், natural peculiarities incidental to each of the divisions of the soil under 14 heads viz., (a) ஆரணங்கு, peculiar gods belonging to a place, tutelary deities or penates, (b) உயர்ந் தோர், chiefs or lords of the district, (c) இழிந்தோர், subjects or inhabitants under them, (d) புள், birds, (e) விலங்கு, beasts, (f) ஊர், city or town, (g) நீர், water, (h) பூ, flowers, (i) மரம். trees, (j) உணா, food, (k) பறை, drum, (l) யாழ், musical instruments, (m) பண், tune, and (n) தொழில், occupation, trade or mode of earning a livelihood. 3. உரிப்பொருள், essential characteristics of lovers. The subject matter of this treatise, to which the two former are auxiliary or conducive, is developed in five dispositions or actions, either mental or coporal, viz., (a) புணர்தல், union or the state in which husbands and wives are together in their family, (b) பிரிதல், separation when for lawful purposes, (c) இருத்தல், the state in which they continue solitary, especially the bride, (d) ஊடல், love quarrels, (e) இ ரங்கல், weeping and lamentation in any period of their life for any cause. These five characteristics are respectively ascribed to the above five species of soil, as appropriately adapted to their nature, as புணர்தல் to குறிஞ்சி, பிரிதல் to பாலை, இருத்தல் to முல்லை, ஊடல் to மருதம், and இரங்கல் to நெய்தல். இந் த ஐந்து ஒழுக்கத்தையுங்குறித்துப் பாடும்பொழுது அத தற்குக்குறித்த திணையிலுள்ள கருப்பொருள்களையெடுத் துப் பாடுதன்முறையாம். அகவல்
akvl (p. 2) s. The call or cry of a peacock, மயிற்குரல். 2. A dance, கூத்து. 3. A species of verse called ஆசிரியப்பா. 4. A peculiar musical sound, ஓர்பாவோசை. (p.) அகவலுரிச்சீர்--அகவற்சீர் s. A species of feet of two syllables, chiefly found in அகவற்பா. அகவலோசை, s. A musical sound in which the verse அகவல் is sung. அகவற்பா, s. A kind of verse See ஆசிரியப்பா. 46)

akvu (p. 2) கிறேன், அகவினேன், வேன், அகவ, v. a. To call, அழைக்க. 2. v. n. To dance, play, ஆட. (p.) அகவல், v. noun. Calling. 47)
அகிலம்
akilam (p. 3) s. [priv. அ et கிலம், separated.] All, the whole, எல்லாம். Wils. p. 5. AKHILA. 2. The earth, பூமி. (p.) அகிலரூபன், s. Equivalent to எல் லாமானோன், he who is of every form, he who is all. 12)

akkam (p. 3) --அட்சம், s. Eye, கண். 2. The seed of the el&ae;ocarpus, worn as a bead by religious mendicants, உருத்தி ராட்சம். (p.) அக்கமணி--அட்சமணி, s. A bead of the seed of the el&ae;ocarpus, worn by religious mendicants. அக்கமாலை--அட்சமாலை, s. A rosary, a string of beads, especially of the el&ae;ocarpus. 45) *

akki (p. 4) s. [ex அக்ஷி.] Eye, கண். (p.) 2. (c.) A kind of scabby disease or erysipelas on the breast or back, chiefly found in children, ஆனைக்கரப்பன். 3. Heat, உட்டணம். 4. An insect, ஓர்பூச்சி. அக்கிதாரை, s. The eye-ball. அக்கிபடலம், s. A disease of the eye. (M. Dic.) 6) *
