kūṟu (p. 136) s. Part, portion, share, subdivision, பங்கு. 2. The natural, chemical, chemical, or anatomical parts of a man of other animal; component, original parts, or principles of material existences. இயற்கைக்கூறு. 3. Modification and diversities in the forms of bodies; varied evolutions of primitive matter, விகாரத்தன்மை. 4. Section, division, department, பகுதி. 5. The properties, qualities or nature of a thing; characteristic symptoms of a disease, கூறுபாடு. 6. Effect, result, product, காரணகாரியங்களின் வகை; [ex குறு, to shorten by division, &c.] 7. v. noun. Proclamation, publication, அறிவிக்கை; [ex கூறு to proclaim.] 8. s. Oily grain, எள்ளு. (M. Dic. முழுக்கூறும்வேண்டும். I want it all. கூறிட--கூறுசெய்ய, inf. To cut in two, bisect, subdivide. 2. To set in portions or small quantities. கூறுகூறாக்க, inf. To cut or separate into portions; to apportion. கூறுவைக்க, inf. To set in portions or separate quantities, to distribute and set in small heaps--as a retailer for sale. கூறுகொள்ள, inf. To stuff, cram, press any thing down with a stick, the feet or the hands. குழந்தை மண்ணைக் கூறுகொள்ளுகிறது. The child eats sand. சோற்றைகூறுகொள்ளுகிறான். [prov.] He thrusts rice into his mouth. கூறுபட, inf. To be divided or resolved into its primitive elements. கூறுபடுத்த, inf. To analyze, to distribute. 2. To resolve or reduce bodies into their original parts or primitive elements; to produce the varied transformations of nature. கூறோலை--கூற்றோலை, s. An ola-writing for the division of property among heirs. தைபிற்கூறு, s. The latter part of January. நடுக்கூற்றிலே, In the middle; in the middle part. மாசிமுற்கூறு, s. The first part of February. அக்கினியின்கூறு, s. The effects of heat in the system, &c. 2. Heat, caloric. சரீரக்கூறு, s. The temperament of the body. 2. The component anatomical parts of the body. நேர்கூறு, s. A proper quantity in composition, mixture. &c. மூலக்கூறு, s. The radical parts of a substance. See மூலம். வாயுவின்கூறு, s. Thread, yarn, twine, line, cord, பஞ்சிநூல். --Note. Rules in Garmmar or other works are of six kinds: 1. பிண்டச்சூத்திரம், the opening of a subject by giving an abstract of the work. 2. தொகைச்சூத்திரம், a synopsis, the divisions in brief, their number, &c., a general rule. 3. வகைச்சூத்திரம், an analysis with general divisions; particular rules. 4. குறிச்சூத்திரம், definitions, &c., demonstrative rules. 5. செய்கைச்சூத்திரம், directory, as in grammar, for permutation, elision, &c., connective rules. 6. புறனடைச்சூத்திரம், supplementary rules to obviate objections; give reasons, explanations, &c., respective rules. Thess are sometimes reduced to two, குறிச்சூத்திரம் and செய்கைச்சூத்திரம். சாத்திரத்தைச்சுட்டுச் சதுமறையைப் பொய்யாக்கி சூத்திரத்தைக்கண்டுசுகம்பெறுவதெக்காலம். When shall the shastras be burnt, the four Vedas proved false, and I through a knowledge of the mystery, be made happy? சூத்திரக்காரன், s. An ingenious or curious artist, an engineer, சூட்சவேலைக்காரன். 2. A man of fine parts, of quick perception, ready wit, &c., சூட்சபுத்தியுள்ளவன். 3. A man of good tact, management, economy, கெட்டிக்காரன். சூத்திரக்கயிறு, s. The concealed strings of a puppet. 2. The strings of a purse, a bag, &c. (Compare சூட்சக்க யிறு.) 3. Any thing that puts a machine in motion. 4. The unseen line or spring of creature action, as moved by the divine hand in every event of life, கடவுளது சூட்சம். சூத்திரதாரி, s. The man who manages the springs, strings. &c., of a puppet, பதிமையாட்டி. 2. God--as moving all things, கடவுள். (p.) சூத்திரநிலை, s. The arrangement of rules in grammar, or other scientific or literary works; being of four kinds: 1. ஆற்றொழுக்கு, rules following each other in a regular order. (See ஆறு.) 2. சிங்க நோக்கு, rules having reference to those preceding and following. (See சிங்கம்.) 3. தவளைப்பாய்த்து, a rule referring to the next but one preceding or succeeding. (See தவளை.) 4. பருந்தின்வீழ்வு, a rule referring to several other rules distant from each other. See பருந்து. சூத்திரப்பா, s. [com. நூற்பா.] A simple, easy kind of metre, a species of அகவல். being of a didactic or prosaic metre, adapted to treatises of instruction. The நன்னூல், திவாகரம், பிங்கலந்தை and other works are written in this style. சூத்திரப்பதிமை--சூத்திரப்பாவை--சூத் திரப்பிரதிமை, s. A puppet moved by springs, strings, &c. 2. Creatures--human especially--as influenced by the Supreme Being in all their actions. சூத்திரப்பதிமையாட்டுகிறவன், appel. n. A puppet player. 2. (fig.) A subordinate who having gained the mind of his superior directs it at his own pleasure. சூத்திரப்புறனடை, s. Note appended to a rule, &c., ina literary or scientific work. சூத்திரப்பெட்டி, s. A box whose lock is a puzzle. சூத்திரமாட்ட, inf. To put the machine in operation. (c.) சூத்திரமாயிருக்க, inf. To be in the form of a rule, a text, a mystery or contrivance. சூத்திரமானகனவு, s. Ingenious theft, artful fraud. சூத்திரர், s. Artificers, mechanics, engineers, architects, carpenters, &c., தச்சர் முதலானோர். 2. See சூத்திரன். சூத்திரம்வைக்க, inf. To contrive plans. சூத்திரவேலை, s. Summery, aggregate, epitome, compend, substance of a narrative, abstract of a subject; genus, as including species; general subjects combined, whether analytically or synthetically, சுருக்கம். 5. Assortment, இனமடைப்பு. 6. Article, item, particulars of an account, &c., எண்ணினுறுப்பு. (c.) 7. [in gram.] Omission of a particle in the combination of words, as தொட்டனைத்து, for தொட்டஅனைத்து, as far as day, தொகுத்தல் விகாரம். 8. Elliptical combination of words, as பொன்கொணர்ந்தான், for பொன்னைக்கொணர்ந் தான், he brought the gold. (See தொகைநிலை.) 9. The main division of a treaties, as distinguished from வகை or விரி, அறுவகைச் சூத்திரத்தொன்று. தொகைப்பிசகிப்போயிற்று. The calculation is erroneous. தொகைகட்ட, inf. To finish, to conclude, to bring to an end. 2. To deliver up, to make over, as money, &c., to make a final payment. 3. To sum up, to make a total, to make out the total, to cast up. தொகைகாட்ட, inf. To give a written account. 2. To state a particular number or sum. 3. To make a sum appear large, to magnify. 4. v. n. To appear large, as an amount. தொகைகூட்ட, inf. To add up. தொகைக்காரன், s. A man of considerable property, தனவான், (c.) தொகைச்சூத்திரம், s. One of the six kinds of rules for composition. See சூத்தி ரம். தொகைதைக்க, inf. To make out the grand total of an account. See தை, v. தொகைநிலை, s. A summary, contraction, ellipsis, &c., சுருங்கிநிற்கை. 2. [in gram.] The connection of a word with the பயனிலை by omitting a particle, வேற்று மையுருபுமுதலியதொக்குநிற்றல்.--It embrasces six varieties; 1. வேற்றுமைத்தொகை, the omission of the sign or from of the case, as பொன்கொடுத்தான், for பொன்னைக்கொடுத் தான். 2. வினைத்தொகை, a verb without the sign of the tense, combined with a noun, as கொல்புலி for கொன்றபுலி, கொல்கின்றபுலி, கொல்லும்புலி. 3. பண்புத்தொகை, omission of the adjective sign ஆகிய or ஆய in combining the qualifying epithet with the noun, as கருங்குவளை for கருமையாகியகுவளை, or two nouns in apposition, as ஆதிபக வன். 4. உவமைத்தொகை, the combination of two words with the omission of the sign of comparison, as பான்மொழி for பால் போலுமொழி. 5. உம்மைத்தொகை, omission of the particle உம், as கபிலபாணர் for கபிலனு ம்பாணனும்; also இராப்பகல் for இராவும், பகலும். --Note. In this combination. there is commonly no reduplication. 6. அன்மொ ழித்தொகை, a metonomy or omission of a word, commonly the name of a person, immediately after any of the five preceeding ellipses, as பொற்றொடி. for பொற் றொடியையுடையாள், the golden braceletdamsel. தொகைநிலைச்செய்யுள், s. A poem consisting of a fixed, even number of verses, ஓர்பிரபந்தம். தொகைநிலைத்தொடர்மொழி, s. As உவ மைத்தொகை. (R.) தொகைநிலையுருவகம், s. [in rheto.] A perfect metaphor, ஓரலங்காரம். தொகைபடுவது, appel. n. Contraction of words, as தொகப்படுவது. தொகைபார்க்க, inf. To sum of cast up the amount. (c.) தொகைபூட்ட, inf. [prov.] To balance accounts, to strike a balance, கணக்குச்சரிக் கட்ட. 2. As தொகைதைக்க. தொகைப்படுத்த--தொகையாக்க, inf. To make up an even number. 2. To make a large sum. 3. To sum up; to reduce to heads. தொகைப்பிசகு--தொகைமோசம், s. An error in a reckoning. 2. (fig.) A mistake, a blunder. தொகைப்பொருள், s. Recapitulation; peroration, விரித்தபொருளின்அடக்கம். தொகைமோசம், s. See தொகைபிசகு. தொகையகராதி, s. One of the four divisions of சதுரகராதி, which see. தொகையுருவகம், s. As பண்புத்தொ கை. (R.) தொகையுவமம், s. Contraction of metaphor. See உவமைத்தொகை. தொகையேற்ற, inf. One of the modes of கலிப்பா verse, கலிப்பாவினோசையி னொன்று. பிரிந்திசைத்தூங்கல், s. One of the characteristics of வஞ்சிப்பா verse, வஞ்சிப் பாவினோசையினொன்று. பிரிமொழிச்சிலேடை, s. A kind of சிலே டை verse in which the words convey different meanings as differently arranged, as மென்காமரமுழக்கும்வேங்கடமே, Vengadam where beetles sing soft tunes, or where elephants tread down the tender trees in the grove. பிரியலர், appel. n. [pl.] Friends, those who forsake not, சிநேகிதர். (p.) பிரியாவிடை, s. A dieu, farewell, a respectful form at parting, implying that the heart does not leave. (c.) பிரிவினை, s. Division, separation, பிரிவு. 2. Disunion, disagreement, ஒவ்வாமை. 3. Sehism as to religion, சமயபேதம். Sometimes பிரிவனை. பிரிவினைக்காலமோதெரியாது.
