ilangkaṉam (p. 53) s. Fasting, abstinence --voluntary or prescribed, உணவொழிக்கை. 2. Leaping, springing, passing over, தாண் டுகை. 3. Violation of moral and religious rules, விதிகடக்கை; [ex லகி, to go, to fast.] Wils. p. 715. LUNGHANA. சமுத்திரலங்கனன்சண்டாளன். The Brahman who passes over the sea is an apostate. இலங்கனம்போட, inf. To prescribe a fast. மூன்றிலங்கனம், s. Three days' fasting, abstinence. 6)

uṟuppu (p. 68) s. A limb, or member of the body, parts, features, அவயவம். 2. Body, உடல். 3. Part (of a whole) component part, member, subdivision, department, section, பங்கு. 4. Just proportion, symmetry, அங்கலட்சணம். 5. Abundance, மிகுதி. 6. Bough, மரக்கொம்பு. 7. Closeness, narrowness, நெருக்கம். 8. A copy of single letters set for a child to imitate, மேல்வரிச்ச ட்டம். 9. Title deed, registry, &c. of land, காணியாட்சிப்பத்திரம். அந்தக்காணிக்கோருறுப்புமில்லை. There is no security, title, &c. for that land. உறுப்படக்கி, s. A tortoise, a turtle --from the contraction of its limbs, ஆமை; [ex உறுப்பு, et அடக்கி, from அடங்கு contraction.] உறுப்பணங்கெட்டவன். [prop. உ றுப்பினங்கெட்டவன்.] An ill-shaped, maimed, ugly person. 2. (Rott.) உறுப்பினங் கெட்டவன், A foolish, a witless fellow. உறுப்பற்றவன்--உறுப்புக்குறைந்த வன். An ill-formed, or deformed person, அவயவவீனன். 2. An ill-bred person. ஒழுக்கமில்லான். உறுப்பில்பிண்டம், s. The embryo. See எச்சம. உறுப்புக்குறைவிசேடம், s. [in rhetoric.] A species of the figure called விசேடம். உறுப்புத்தோல், s. A species of deer-skin which, according to the shasters, the Brahman should fasten to his sacred cord, நூலிற்கட்டியமான்றோல். உறுப்புநலனழிதல், v. noun. Decaying or withering--as the beauty of a female, on account of the absence of her lover, அங்கத்தழகுகெடுதல். உறுப்புமயக்கம், s. A prodigy, a monster, one whose limbs are redundant, defective, &c. See எச்சம். உறுப்புள்ளவன், s. A vigorous, well-formed man, அங்கலட்சணமுடையவன். 2. A man of enterprising character, qualified for business, திறமையுடையான். 3. A man of good conduct, அறத்துறுப்புடை யான். 4. A man of good manners, ஒழுக்கமுள்ளவன். காணிக்குறுப்புப்பண்ண, inf. To get a title deed passed for land. அகத்துறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts of virtue; they are eight in number. 1. ஐயப்படாமை, Freedom from doubt and uncertainty. 2. விருப்பின்மை, Liberation from the desires of the senses. 3. வெ றுப்பின்மை, Freedom from antipathy, prejudice, &c. 4. Exemption from illusion, confusion of mind, error, ignorance, &c. 5. பழியைநீக்கல், Freedom from evils. 6. அழி ந்தோரைநிறுத்தல், Restoring the ruined or apostate. 7. அறம்விளக்கல், Expounding or elucidating the nature of virtue. 8. பேரன்புடைமை, Great kindness, or benevolence to all sentient creatures. நூலுறுப்பு, s. One of the members or component parts of a treatise. மதிலுறுப்பு, s. The component parts of a fortification. திருவுறுப்பு, s. A jewel worn by bridegrooms upon their foreheads--a sign of the goddess இலக்குமி. செய்யுளுறுப்பு, s. The constituent parts or elements of poetry, as given in காரிகை, they are six, viz.: 1. எழுத்து, Letters forming thirteen classes. 2. அசை, Metrical syllables of two kinds. 3. சீர், Metrical feet of thirty kinds. (See. சீர்.) 4. தளை, Combination of feet one with another, of seven kinds. 5. அடி, Metrical lines determined by the number of feet of which they are composed, five kinds are given. 6. தொடை, Rhyme, forty-three species are enumerated. சீட்டினுறுப்பு, s. The style or different parts of a writ, or deed, &c. 5)

oẕukkm (p. 84) s. Conduct, behavior, demeanor, course, நடை. 2. Prescribed rules, regulations, order, mode, முறைமை. 3. Rules of conduct for different castes, orders, &c., ஆசாரம். 4. Good conduct, good morals, good usages, morality, virtue, decorum, நன்னடக்கை. 5. Reverence, obeisance, modesty, &c., towards a superior, பண்பு. 6. Walking, walk, செல்லுகை. 7. Way, வழி. 8. Height, elevation, உயரம். 9. Eminence, greatness, மேன்மை. 1. Quality, manner, state, condition, தன்மை. 11. Caste, tribe, குலம். (p.) ஒழுக்கமுயர்குலத்தினன்று. Virtue is to be preferred before rank. ஒழுக்கத்தவறு, s. Breach of decency. ஒழுக்கந்துறக்க, inf. To apostatize, forsake the path of virtue, to swerve from the rules of caste, religion, &c. ஒழுக்கமாயிருக்க, inf. To be modest, polite, well-behaved. ஒழுக்கமுடைமை, s. The possession of good manners. (திருவள்.) ஒழுக்கவணக்கம், s. Decent and reverent deportment, modesty. நல்லொழுக்கம், s. Good manners, modesty. தீயொழுக்கம், s. Bad manners. கூடாவொழுக்கம், s. Hypocrisy in religion, &c. 9)

caṇṭāḷam (p. 158) s. Lowness, baseness, meanness, barbarism, இழிவு. 2. A base creature. a vile wretch, நீசன்; [ex Sa. chan'd'hala.] 3. (R.) A demon, பேய். (p.) மிருகசண்டாளங்கருத்தபம். An ass is the basest of animals. (p.) சண்டாளத்துரோகி--சண்டாளப்பாவி, s. A barbarous or vile wretch. (c.) சண்டாளப்பிராயச்சித்தம், s. Expiation of defilement from contact with a murderer, or other base wretch, or from the intrusion of such a one into a sacred shrine. &c. சண்டாளன்--சண்டாளி, s. A low degraded man, a villain, இழிஞன், 2. A man of low and degraded caste, a flesh eater, &c., புலைஞன். (c.) 3. An apostate who has forfeited the privileges of his religion, caste, &c., பதிதன். 4. One born of a Brahmani and a Sudra father, பார்ப் பனஸ்திரியிடத்திற்சூத்திரனுக்குப்பிறந்தோன். 13) *

[vul.] Urgency to urine--oppos. to பெரியசலபாதை. சின்னஞ்சிறியது, appel. n. A very small, fine, or minute thing. சின்னஞ்சிறுவயசு, s. Childhood. (c.) சின்னட்டி, s. [prov.] A little person, animal or thing, சிறியது. சின்னது, appel. n. That which is small. சின்னப்பன், s. [vul.] [prop. சிற்றப் பன்.] The father's younger brother, or the mother's younger sister's husband. சின்னக்காள், s. The elder sisters, taken individually, except the eldest, in relation to the youngest. சின்னப்பயல்--சிறுபயல், s. A little fellow. (in contempt.) சின்னப்பர், s. [Rom. Catho. usage.] The apostle Paul. சின்னவேலை, s. A little job, a small matter. சின்னப்புத்தி, s. Meanness of mind, or the low thoughts of one of mean parentage. 2. Shallow wit, அற்பபுத்தி. சின்னமனம், s. A little, mean mind. சின்னமனிதன், s. A man of low character. சீ, A syllabic letter compounded of ச் and ஈ. 7)

Fate, destiny, or the influence of actions performed in previous births, pursuing the soul and impelling to actions good or bad, ஊழ். 3. One of the eight kinds of marriage, எண்வகைமணத்தி லொன்று. W. p. 425. DAIVA. 4. A year, வருடம். (சது.) 5. One of the five யாகம், ஐவ கையாகத்தொன்று. தெய்வஞ்சீறில்கைதவமாளும். When the god is angry the penance is nullified. தெய்வகளை, s. Lustre of countenance a from the indwelling of Deity. See களை. தெய்வகற்பனை, s. Divine order or injunction, especially as attended by an oracle. தெய்வகாரியம், s. Divine or sacred things, concerns of religion, &c. தெய்வக்காவல், s. Divine protection. தெய்வசகாயம், s. Divine assistance. தெய்வசபை, s. The divine presence. See தேவசபை. தெய்வசாட்சி, s. God as witness. 2. the deity as all pervading. 3. Appeal to the Deity, oath. தெய்வசிந்தனை, s. Divine meditation, contemplations on the deity, &c., pious thoughts. தெய்வசுரபி--தெய்வப்பசு, s. The cow of the gods, காமதேனு. தெய்வசோதனை, s. Providential trials. தெய்வச்சாயல், s. Divine likeness, as in the countenance of a devout or holy person, chaste matrons, &c. தெய்வச்செயல், s. Providential occurrence, divine providence. தெய்வதத்துவம், s. Divine power. See தேவதத்துவம். தெய்வதுரோகம், s. Sin immediately against the Deity, as profanation, blasphemy, sacrilege, &c., apostasy, &c. தெய்வதூஷணம், s. Insult offered to the Deity, blasphemy, &c., See தேவதூ ஷணம். தெய்வத்தாபனம்--தெய்வஸ்தாபனம், s. Inspiring an image with the god represented. தெய்வத்தீர்வை, s. Divine judgement. தெய்வஸ்துதி, s. Divine praise. தெய்வத்துவம், s. The Godhead, Deity, the divine neture. See தேவத்துவம். தெய்வநாஸ்திகன், s. An atheist, but applied by the orthodox Hindus to any one who denies the divine authority of the Vedas, or doubts that of the Puranas. தெய்வநிந்தனை, s. Offence or insult offered to the Deity, blasphemy, &c. தெய்வநியமம், s. Judgement from heaven, divine decree, providential occurrence. தெய்வபத்தி, s. Devotedness, piety, religious zeal, trust in God for a good or bad destiny. தெய்வபூசை, s. Puja to a god. தெய்வப்பசு, s. See தெய்வசுரபி, தெய்வப்புலமை, s. Divinely inspired poetry--applied often to the குறள் and இராமாயணம். தெய்வப்பெண், s. A female of Swerga. தெய்வப்பெயர்த்தொகுதி, s. A classification of the names of the gods, and whatever is regarded divine, or celestial, &c., as given in நிகண்டு. தெய்வமணம், s. One of the eight kinds of marriage. See மணம். 2. Geateful odors, as திவ்வியமணம். தெய்வமத்தியஸ்தம், s. God being judge, a solemn appeal to the Deity. தெய்வமந்திரி, s. The planet Jupiter, as instructor of the gods, வியாழன். தெய்வமுனி, s. Munis of the race of Devas, as நாரதர், சூதர், &c. தெய்வமுனிவு, s. Divine indignation. தெய்வமுன்னிலை, s. Divine presence spoken woth a conscientious regard to God. தெய்வம்வழிபடல், v. noun. Worshiping of God, divine worship. தெய்வயானை, s. [improp. தெய்வானை.] A female of Swerga nurtured by the elephant ஐராவதம், and afterwards married to the god Skanda. தெய்வயானைகாந்தன், s. Skanda as husband of Devayanai. தெய்வவணக்கம், s. Divine worship. 2. Invocation, &c., of some god at the beginning of a treatise. தெய்வவிசுவாசம், s. Confidence or faith in God. 2. Belief in the divine existence, providences, &c. தெய்வவிமானம், s. An serial ear, said to move through, the sky at the pleasure of the occupier, திவ்வியவிமானம். தெய்வவிரதன், s. Bhishma, வீடுமாசா ரி. See தேவவிரதன். தெய்வாதீனம், s. Divine right, disposal, or direction தேவசுவாதீனம். 2. Divine providence, தெய்வச்செயல். தெய்வாதீனமாய்வருவது. That which happens providentially. தெய்வேத்தினம்--தேவேத்தினம், s. Divine providence. 2. Destiny or the influence of actions in a former birth. தெய்வோபாசனை, s. (St.) Divine worship, divine service.
