āṟṟu (p. 43) கிறேன், ஆற்றினேன், வேன், ஆற்ற, v. a. To cool, refresh, குளிரச்செய்ய. 2. To assuage, appease, alleviate, soothe, console, compose, lull, mitigate, தணிக்க. 3. To slack, loosen what is tied or twisted, முறுக்குத்தளர்த்த. (c.) 4. (p.) To do, act, perform a duty, செய்ய. 5. To bear a weight, தாங்க. 6. To carry, or sustain a burden or calamity, பொறுக்க.--Note. This verb is sometimes used impersonally--as இந்த வழியென்னாலேயாற்றாது. I cannot get along this road. ஆற்ற, inf. [used adverbially.] Greatly, exceedingly, மிகுதியாய். அமிழ்தினுமாற்றவினிதே. Sweeter than nectar. (குறள்.) கணவராற்றமுனிந்தே. The husbands greatly resenting. ஆற்றாக்கேடு, s. Extreme poverty, indigence exigence, great necessity. ஆற்றாச்சண்டி, s. One who perversely persists in application for aid through poverty, one past shame, an insatiable wretch. ஆற்றாத்தனம், s. Insatiableness. ஆற்றாப்பட்சம், s. What cannot be borne, intolerableness--as ஆற்றாமை. ஆற்றாமை, neg. v. noun. Inability to bear--as excessive hunger, pain, &c., சகிக்கக்கூடாமை. 2. Impatience, பொறா மை. 3. Voracity, voraciousness, insatiableness, திருத்தியின்மை. ஆற்றார், s. Foes, opponents, rivals, those who envy one, பகைவர். 2. The poor, the afflicted, தரித்திரர். (p.) ஆற்றிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To cool and give. 2. To help or relieve one at work. ஆற்றித்தேற்ற, inf. To soothe and console. ஆற்றிப்போற்றிக்கொள்ள, inf. To treat guests with civility, விருந்தினரை யுபசரிக்க. 2. To render aid--as to a sick person, to help one in distress, துன்புற்றோ ரைக்காக்க. 3. To console, ஆற்ற. ஆற்றுவிக்க, inf. [causal.] To console, cherish, afford consolation, தணி யச்செய்ய. 2. To inspire with courage, வலிதர. 3. To enable to bear, or endure, உறுதிசெய்ய. ஆற்றல், v. noun. Cooling, assuaging, consoling, &c. 2. Enduring, bearing patiently. 3. Bearing a load.

camātāṉam (p. 163) s. An equable state, peace, tranquillity, composure, equanimity, கலக்கமின்மை. 2. Consent, agreement, சம்மதம். 3. Reconciliation, ஒப்புரவு. 4. A reconciliatory answer in reasoning, தக்க வுத்தரம். (c.) 5. The stoicism or indifference of the Yogi or Gnani to terrestrial things, மனவவைவு; [ex சமம், quiet, et ஆதானம், having.] 6. W. p. 896. SAMADHANA. Deep and devout meditation, restraining the mind from external objects, entire abstraction, யோகநிஷ்டை. சமாதானகரணி, s. A medicament that restores distorted or otherwise disfigured limbs, features, &c., காயத்தானெகிழ்ந்தவுறுப்பு களைக்கூட்டுமருந்து; [ex கரணி, maker.] சமாதானக்கொடி, s. A flag of truce, or of peace. சமாதானக்கட்டுப்பாடு, v. noun. Social bond or union. சமாதானத்தினாவி, s. [in Christian usage.] The spirit of peace. சமாதானப்பட--சமாதானமாக, inf. To be tranquil, peaceable, quiescent. 2. To consent, சம்மதிக்க. சமாதானப்படுத்த--சமாதானம்பண்ண, inf. To quiet, calm, assuage, tranquillize. 2. To placate, to pacify, to compose, soothe. 3. To induce consent. சமாதானம்பேச, inf. To treat or sue for peace. சமாதானவுருவகம், s. [in rhet.] A species of metaphor, ஓரலங்காரம். மனச்சமாதானம், s. Tranquillity of mind. 2. The stoicism of the ascetic whose passions are annihilated--as சமா தானம், 5. நித்தியசமாதானம், s. Eternal rest, everlasting felicity. [Christian usage.] 9) *

To turn, turn about-as a horse, carriage or vessel; to turn back, திருப்ப. 3. To repeat, மாறிமாறிச் செய்ய. 4. To stop one's mouth by argument, or sophistry; to confute, refute, overpower, மறுக்க. 5. To subdue in war, to repulse, conquer, abase, mortify, கீழ்ப்ப டுத்த. 6. To compress; to check, restrain; to beat--as one ox another, in ploughing, அடக்க. 7. To engage or secure for one's self--as a servant, an article, or a cargo of goods, preventing application for sale elsewhere, வசப்படுத்த. 8. To stop or hinder proceedings; to quash, தடுக்க. 9. To reap--the seed-sown being multiplied, அரியறுக்க. மாட்டைமடக்கினான். He kept the cattle together in a drove. மடக்கிக்கொள்ள, inf. To secure for one's self. மடக்கிப்போட, inf. To check, repress, subdue, repulse. 2. To tame, பவ்வியப் படுத்த. மடக்கிவிட, inf. To subdue, repress, subject to one's own will. 2. To turn back--as enemies or wild beasts. மடக்கிவைக்க, inf. To quiet, restrain, check, or partially repress. மடக்குமேசை, s. A table with folding legs. (Colloq.) மடக்குவரிவைத்தல், v. noun. Imposing another tax for a second crop. (R.) மடக்கெழுத்தாணி, s. A folding knife with a style. மடக்கு, v. noun. [as substantive.] Bend, crook, flexure, elbow, corner, inflection, deflection, refraction, முடக்கு. 2. Turn, repetition, recurrence, திருப்பு. 3. A fold, folding--as a knife, a table, &c., மடிப்பு. 4. A curb, check, rebuff, தடை. 5. A kind of earthen vessel, ஓர்மட்பாத்திரம். 6. Alternation, constant recurrence, மாறிமா றிவருதல். 7. A zigzag course, தாறுமாறு. 8. [in rhet.] The repetition of a word, foot or line of poetry through the stanza, each time in a different sense; considered as an ornament, and embracing, according to தண்டியலங்காரம், three hundred and fifteen varieties, ஓர்சித் திரகவி. மடக்கடி, v. noun. Crookedness, unevenness--as of a road, bank, shore, முடக்கு. 2. Danger, peril, hazard--as from a coast, மோசம். 3. Indirectness, or crabbedness of an answer calculated to deceive; browbeating; overbearing, sophistry, சூதுவார்த்தை. 4. Stratagem, device, craft, தந்திரம். 5. Entrapping, entangling, ensnaring, வலைக்குட்படுத்துகை. மடக்கடிக்காரன், s. A crafty person, one full of devices; a brow-beater, a sophist, சூதன். மடக்கடிபண்ண, inf.
