apayam (p. 16) s. [priv. அ.] Fearlessness, intrepidity, அச்சமின்மை. Wils. p. 52. AB'HAYA. 2. An appeal, ஓலம். 3. (fig.) A place of refuge, shelter, அடைக்கலம். (p.) அபயமென்றடைந்தோர். Those who have applied for protection. அபயகரம்--அபயாஸ்தம்--அபயாத் தம், s. The right hand of a deity, idol or great person raised in token of dispelling fear and in assurance of protection, பயந்தீரவமைக்குங்கை. அபயங்கொடுக்க--அபயஸ்தங்கொ டுக்க, inf. To dispel fear, cheer, encourage, dispel fear by raising the hand or otherwise, to give assurance of protection. See கொடு, v. அபயமிட, inf. To call for succor, cry for protection, appeal as in a suit. iṭi (p. 45) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To pound, beat in a mortar, comminute, pulverize, reduce to flour, தூளாக்க. 2. To strike with the fist, a club or any thing blunt, slantingly, not with a direct blow, தாக்க. 3. To push, gore as a beast, to thrust, to butt--as an old calf in sucking, முட்ட. 4. To thunder, eject thunder-bolts, இடியிடிக்க. 5. To beat so as to break, bruise or batter to pieces, demolish, shatter, தகர்க்க. 6. To speak forcibly and emphatically, to use strong language in order to make an impression, to urge, insist upon with earnestness, உறுதிசொல்ல. 7. v. n. To throb, beat-as the head when aching: to beat, pant, palpitate, துடிக்க. 8. To strike--as a vessel against the shore--as a gun fired, &c., உதைக்க. 9. To sound, make a noise, ஒலிக்க. இடிக்குந் துணையாரை யாள்வாரையாரே கெடுக்குந் தகைமையவர்? uṭṉ (p. 59) s. A particle of time and place used in combination with other words and expressing co-existence, accompaniment--a form of the third case or the social ablative, மூன்றாம்வேற்றுமையின்சொல்லு ருபு. 2. Instantly, immediately, at once, அப்பொழுதே. உடனாளி, appel. noun. Companion, co-partner, கூட்டாளி. 2. (Rott.) A man of property. உடனிகழ்ச்சி--உடனிகழ்தல்--உ டனிகழ்வு, v. noun. Co-existing, happening simultaneously. 2. A term in grammar implying co-existence, concomitan cy. உடனிகழ்ச்சிப்பொருள். ஒடுவென்பதுடனிகழ்வைக்காட்டும். The particle ஒடு shows accompaniment. உடனிலைமயக்கம்--உடனிலைமெய் மயக்கம், s. [in orthography.] The combination of two consonants of the same kind--as அக்கம், அச்சம், opp. to வேற்றுநிலை மெய்மயக்கம். உடனுக்குடனே. The very instant, at the very juncture, immediately succeeding another event. பாம்புகடித்தவுடனுக்குடனேபிரயோகம்பண்ணிக் கொண்டான். He applied the remedy as soon as the snake bit him. உடனுற்றவன், s. A servant of the same class with another. உடனே, adv. Immediately. 2. prep. With, together with. ஒருசாமமானவுடனே. Immediately after the first watch. அவனதைச்சொன்னவுடனே. To ascend the funeral pile--as a Hindu widow with her deceased husband, அனுமரணம டைய; [ex கட்டை, log of wood.] உடன்கூட்டு, s. Co-partnership, fellowship, உடன்சேர்க்கை. உடன்கூட்டாளி, s. Co-partner, participator. உடன்கை. [prop. உடனே.] Immediately succeeding, just after, as soon as. வேலைசெய்துமுடிந்தவுடன்கையிலேகாசுகிடைக் கும். The wages will be paid as soon as the work is done. உடன்பங்காளி, s. A joint-sharer or participator, a co-partner, கூட்டுப்பங் காளி. 2. [com. உடம்ப டிக்கை.] A contract, agreement, compact, covenant, engagement, &c., written or verbal, சம்மதிப்பத்திரம். 2. A promise, assurance, உறுதிப்பாடு. உடன்படுத்த, inf. To induce consent, to make willing, சம்மதிப்படுத்த. 2. To unite, reconcile, இசைவிக்க. உடன்படுவிலக்கு, s. A figure of speech by which a negation is couched in affirmative words--as அப்போதடுப்ப தறியேனருள்செய்ய இப்போதிவளுமிசைகின்றாள்-தப்பில், பொருளோபுகழோதரப்போவீர்மாலை இரு ளோநிலவோவெழும். The third and last of the ancient Madura colleges consisting of forty-nine literati, இறுதிச்சங் கம். கடைச்சரக்கு, s. In erotics, the section which relates to an application made for the opening of a door to a coming or expected lover; or in war poems, to a warrior returning in triumph after a victory, கதவுதிறக்கை. [in grammar.] Letters proper to end a word, இறுதிநிலை. கடைபோக, inf. To end, terminate, conclude, முடிய. 2. To be fulfilled, நிறைவேற. கடைபோட--கடைவைக்க, inf. To set up a shop, open a shop. கடைப்பட, inf. To be inferior, below mediocrity, to be last in quality or estimation, degree or order, இழிவாக. 2. [prov.] Stupidity, இழிந்தபுத்தி. 2. A piece of folly, பின்புத்தி. கடைப்போக்கு, s. The flood-gate of tank. கடைமடக்கு, s. [in rhetoric.] Continued recurrence of the same words at the end of each line through a stanza, but with different meanings, சொல்லணி யிலொன்று. See மடக்கு. கடைமுறை, s. [prov.] Lingering in disease, excessive suffering from disease, வருத்தம். 2. Vexation, teasing, imminence, trouble, annoyance, உலைவு, lit. mean work. கடையாட்டப்பட, inf. [vul.] The very last, the extremity, &c.--as கடைசி. கடையாயார், s. Persons of the lowest rank, இழிந்தோர். கடையால், s. Stern of a vessel, தோணியின்பிற்புறம். See கடைசால், usage. கடையிணைமுரண், s. A rhyme when the last two feet of a line are of opposite meanings, ஓர்தொடை. (p.) கடையிணைமோனை, s. A consonance of the first letters in the last two feet of each line in a verse. (p.) கடையீடு, s. Land of the poorest quality, கடைத்தரமானநிலம். கடையுணி, s. [prov.] A mean fellow who eats what he can beg or pick up-- a worthless being, இழிந்தோன். கடையுண்ண, inf. [prov.] To linger in disease, வருத்தப்பட. 2. To be stinted or weak in growth--as a child, நசுங்க. 3. To be neglected, abused, &c.-- as a book, a utensil, &c.; in this meaning it is a term of displeasure, இகழப்பட. கடையுவா, s. The full moon, பௌரணை. (p.) கடையெழுஞ்சனி, s. The twelfth asterism in which Saturn is considered malignant in his influence, உத்திரம். See சனி. கடைவழி, s. Final salvation, the last path. கடைவழிக்குதவும். It will avail for the salvation of the soul. காதற்றஊசியும்வாராதுகாணுங்கடைவழிக்கே. Be assured that even an eyeless needle will not accompany you in that sad hour. கடைவளர, inf. The last of the third class of liberal men--he who bestows charity from motives of ostentation, கேட்டபின்கொடுப்போன். கடைவாய், s. The corner or extremities of the mouth, வாயின்கடை. கடைவாய்நக்கி, s. A great miser, உலுத்தன், lit. he who licks the corners of his mouth. கடைவாய்ப்பல், s. The double teeth, the grinders, the back teeth. கடைவாய்வழிய, inf. To drivel at the corners of the mouth--as old people or persons asleep, வாய்நீரொழுக. கடைவிரிக்க, inf. To spread out goods for sale in a shop or market, கடைதிறக்க. கடைவீதி, s. A market-street. கடைவைக்க, inf. To place goods for sale in a shop or bazaar. 2. To open a shop on an auspicious day after the new-year, கடைதிறக்க. பலசரக்குக்கடை, s. A shop where commodities of various kinds are sold. மளிகைக்கடை, s. A wholesale ware-house. காசுக்கடை, s. An exchange. அடிக்கடை, s. The first shop in a market-street. மருந்துக்கடை, s.
