ஏர்
ēr (p. 79) s. A particle of comparison, உவ மையுருபு. 2. Beauty, அழகு. (p.) 3. A team for ploughing, including the plough and other apparatus, உழுபடை. 4. A yoke of oxen, உழவுமாடு. 5. Ploughing the plough-as an occupation, உழவுத்தொழில். அவனிருப்பதேர்க்காரன். He is a person possessed of twenty yoke of oxen. காம்பேர்தோள். Shoulders beautifully rounded like a bamboo. கயலேர்கண்ணார். Carp-eyed beauties--ladies with eyes as beautiful as the carp-fish. சீரைத்தேடினேரைத்தேடு. If you desire wealth attend to agriculture. ஏரடிக்க--ஏருழ, inf. To plough. அவன் எத்தனையேருழுகிறான்--அவனுக்கெத்தனையே ருழும். Ploughing, tillage, agriculture, உழவு. ஏராளர், s. Husbandmen, agriculturists, உழவர். ஏரின்வாழ்நர்--ஏருழவர்--ஏருழுநர் --ஏர்த்தொழிலர், s. Ploughmen, those who live by the plough, உழவர். ஏருழக்க, inf. To practise husbandry, பயிர்செய்ய. ஏரெழுபது, s. A poem of seventy stanzas in praise of the plopugh by கம்பர், ஓர்நூல். See Ellis. p. 44. (குறள்). ஏரோட்ட, inf. To plough, உழ. ஏர்க்கால், s. The shaft of a plough, கலப்பையின்கால். 2. Shaft of a carriage, வண்டியேர்க்கால். ஏர்ச்சீர், s. Implements of husbandry. 2. The wealth procurable by husbandry. ஏர்ச்சீரில்லாதவன். One who has neither oxen, implements of husbandry, nor seed, corn, &c. ஏர்த்தாயம், s. Ploughing in season. ஏர்த்தொழில், s. Agriculture, husbandry, உழவுத்தொழில். ஏர்நாழி, s. A small circular piece of wood with a hole in the centre to receive the cord வடக்கயிறு by which the ploughman can regulate the depth of the furrows, கலப்பையினோருறுப்பு. ஏர்ப்பண், s. [prov.] The rope for attaching the oxen to the plough, or the plough-beam to the yoke, பூட்டாங்க யிறு. ஏர்ப்பூட்டு, v. noun. Ploughing for the first time in the season, on an auspicious day begun with appropriate ceremonies, ஏர்கட்டுகை. ஏர்ப்பூட்ட, inf. To yoke the oxen to the plough. ஏர்வாரம், s. A share of the produce allowed for the team and agricultural implements used in cultivating the land, ஏர்க்காகக்கொடுக்கும்வாரம். முன்னேர்க்குண்டை, s. The first or best yoke of oxen. பின்னேர், s. The second or hindermost yoke of oxen. பொன்னேர்கட்ட, inf. To plough for the first time in the season on an auspicious day begun with the appropriate ceremonies--as ஏர்ப்பூட்ட. 52)

kulam (p. 127) s. [in poet. குலன்.] Tribe, family, lineage, race; caste, nation, people, சாதி. 2. Herd, flock, shoal, assemblage, collection, கூட்டம். 3. Kind, class, species, sort, genus, இனம். 4. House, abode, மனை. 5. Royal palace, அரமனை. Wils. p. 233. KULA. 6. Family, rank, respectability or eminence of descent, உயர்குலம். 7. (Rott.) An inhabited country, குடி. 8. (பிங்.) The twentyseventh lunar asterism, or nacshatra; also, the time the moon accupies in traversing the nacshatra, இரேவதி. குரங்கானாலுங்குலத்திலெடு. Though an ape, let a wife be from one's own family. குலங்குப்பையிலே பணம்பந்தியிலே. Rank or caste is on the dung-hill, while wealth sits in state; i. e. the wealthy are honored. கோடாலிக்காம்பு குலத்துக்கீனம். The axehandle brings ruin to its race (by assisting to cut down trees)--spoken of a person who brings disgrace and ruin to his family. குலகன்மம், s. Customs attaching to a family, through successive generations, குலாசாரம். Wils. p. 233. KULAKARMMA. குலகாயம், s. The rules or regulations of caste, குலவொழுக்கம். இதுனக்குக்குலகாயமாயிருக்கிறது. This is the custom of your family or tribe. குலகூடஸ்தன், s. The first ancestor of a race or lineage. குலக்கொடி--குலஸ்திரீ--குலபத்தினி --குலாங்கனை, s. The lawful wife. 2. A woman reputed for chastity. 3. A woman of good family and caste, and of repute for chastity. குலக்கொழுந்து, s. A rare son, the sprout or hope of the family. குலவிளக்கு, s. A light to the family or caste-spoken of a chaste matron. குலங்கெட்டவன், s. One who has lost his caste; an object, low-caste fellow. குலசிரேட்டன்--குலஸ்தன்--குலத்தன்-குலமான், s. One born of a good family. குலட்சயம், s. The ruin or decay of a family or tribe. wills. p. 233. KULAKSHAYA. குலதருமம், s. The customs, duties, offices, &c., peculiar to, or proper for, a caste, &c. Wils. 233. KULAD'HARMMA. குலதிலகம்--குலதிலதம், s. One who is an honor to his family; the respectable head of a family. 2. Very pure lineage; eminence of caste. Wils. p. 233. KULATILAKA. குலதம்பிரான்--குலகுரு, s. A family guru, the guru of a race or tribe. குலதெய்வம், s. The family, tutelary deity. 2. The deity of the tribe. குலத்துக்குத்தக்ககுணம், s. Disposition, habits, or propensities peculiar to a caste. குலத்துக்குத்தக்கநடை, s. Behaviour suitable to one's caste. குலந்தெரிக்க, inf. To dwell on another's parentage--commonly in ridicule. குலபதி, s. The head of a caste or tribe. Wils. p. 233. KULAPATI. குலப்பகை, s. Natural antagonism between different species--as between cats and dogs. 2. In-bred malice, hatred, &c., between tribes, perpetuated from generation to generation. குலப்பழி, s. Offence or malice, perpetuated from generation to generation. குலப்பழுது--குலவடு, s. Stigma on a family. 2. Meanness of caste. குலப்பரத்தை, s. A courtezan by birth, or ancestry. 2. A courtezan, not common but kept by one man; a kept mistress. குலமகள்--குலப்பெண், s. THe lawful wife. 2. A woman of good caste, reputed for chastity. குலமக்கட்கழகுதன்கொழுநனைப்பேணுதல். It is becoming in a lawful and virtuous wife to cherish and honor her husband. குலமகன், s. A man of respectable caste. 2. A legitimate son. குலமங்குதல், v. noun. Being reduced in respectability, circumstances, &c. குலமணி, s. A genuine gem; (fig.) one of an illustrious birth. குலமிலான்--குலவீனன், s. A man of low caste. குலமுறைகிளத்த--குலஞ்செப்ப, inf. To give the genealogy of a family. குலங்கூற--குலம்பேச, inf. To twit one of low parentage. 2. To boast or talk of one's own or another's high birth. குலம்புகுந்தவன், s. One who has mingled with persons of a strange caste, a term of reproach. குலம்பெயர, inf. [prov.] To be changed for the better or worse--as a tree by transplanting; to improve or degenerate. குலவித்தை, s. The arts, duties, or employments peculiar to a family or caste. குலவிருது, s. The standard or banner peculiar to a family. 2. A peculiarity or propensity in an individual, common to his family. குலாசாரம், s. The custom, usage, duties, rites, &c., of a caste or tribe. One of high caste or family, குலசிரேட்டன். குலாபிமானம், s. Family pride, pride of birth. 2. Respectability of caste, family, &c., சாதிமானம். Wils. p. 234. KULAB'HIMANA. குலிஞன்--குலிஞ்சன், s. A person of a high family, of honorable descent, &c., குலமுள்ளோன். குலீனன், s. One of a high family, &c. Wils. p. 234. KULEENA. குலோத்துங்கன், s. The respectable chief of a family. 2. The name of an illustrious prince of the Chola dynasty. குலடன், s. An adopted son, a foster child, சுவீகாரபுத்திரன். Wils. p. 233. KULAT'A. குலகிரி--குலபர்வதம்--குலாசலம், s. The eight mountains in Jambu Dwipa, (See கிரி.) 2. Seven mountain which are supposed to be in each of the seven Dwipas. 3. The circular mountains which are fancied to surround the annular seas respectively, together with the one which sorrounds the Pushkara Dwipa. (காந்.) நற்குலம், s. A good caste or tribe. 2. An excellent kind. இதுநற்குலதீவிதிராட்சச்செடி. This is a very choice vine. இவன்நற்குலத்தான்--நற்குலத்தோன். He is a man of a high caste, or family. 20)

cikku (p. 181) v. noun. [substantively, ex சிக்கு, v.] A tangle, twist, snarl, நூன்முதலியவற்றின்சி க்கு. 2. Intricacy, complication, in volution, thraldom, சிக்கானகாரியம். 3. Hooking, grappling, மாட்டிக்கொள்ளுகை. 4. Snare, ensnarement, entanglement, கண்ணி. 5. Obstacle, impediment, தடை. 6. The lodgement of oil or indigestible food in the bowels; adhesion of oil to the hair after bathing, எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. 7. cutantaram (p. 193) --சுதந்திரம்--ஸ்வதந்தி ரம், s. W. p. 961. SVATANTRA. Inheritance, heirship, natural prerogative, privilege, சுவாதந்திரியம். 2. Perquiste, benefit, share, allotment, fee, compensation, பெரும்பேறு. (c.) 3. Co-existence, natural and inseparable union, உரிமை. 4. Liberty, freedom, free-agency, independence, தற்சுதந்தரம். துர்
tur (p. 249) s. A prefix used in combination signifying evil, ill, bad, deficient; it is often changed to ற், before the hard letters, to ன் before the soft, as துன்மார்க்கம். Before இடையினம், there is no change. Sometimes ர் is dropped and the relative letter takes its place--as துச்சரிதம், ஒருபசர்க் கை. (See துஷ்.) W. p. 414. DUR. துரதிஷ்டம், s. Ill luck. (c.) துராசாரம், s. Wickedness, depravity, perversity, a vicious life, தீயொழுக்கம். 2. Indecorum, indecency, immodesty, அவ மரியாதை. துராசாரன்--துராசாரி, s. Evil actions either in performance, or as accumulated and attaching to the soul. துர்க்கன்மபரிபாகம்--துஷ்கன்மபரிபா கம், s. Ripening or exhaustion of the evil actions of former births. துர்க்கீர்த்தி, s. Ill fame, infamy. துர்க்குணம், s. (also துற்குணம்.) Bad disposition, ill humor, a vicious course, தீக்குணம். துர்க்குணன், s. A vicious, wicked man, தீயன். துர்க்குறி, s. Evil omen, bad sign, unfavorable symptom, ominous gesture. துர்ச்சரிதம், s. (more properly, துச்சரி தம்.) Evil practice, evil courses. துர்ச்சனம், s. Badness, viciousness, maliciousness, mischief, வன்மம். 2. Lewdness, lasciviousness, wantonness, மோக லீலை. 3. Insubordination, refractoriness, rebellion of a youth or dependant, &c., செருக்கு. துர்ச்சனநடத்தை--துர்ச்சனவியோகம், s. Vicious conduct, a vicious course. துர்ச்சனன், s. A petulant or insolent man. துர்ச்சனனைக்கண்டால்தூரவிலகு...... Abstain from an insolent person. துர்ச்செய்கை, s. Evil action. துர்ச்சொப்பனம், s. (also துச்சொப்ப னம்.] A bad or ominous dream. துர்த்தேவதை, s. A malignant demon. துர்ப்பலம், s. Weakness, feebleness, thinness, emaciation, பலவீனம். 2. (fig.) The state of being reduced in circumstances, சிறுமை. முன்னமேதுர்ப்பலைஅதிலுங்கர்ப்பிணி. Before weak, and now also pregnant; or poor, and under a heavy fine. துர்ப்பலன், s. Ill result as predicted in astrology. அமங்கலப்பயன். 2. Bad fruit, ill consequence. துர்ப்பாக்கியம்--தௌர்ப்பாக்கியம், s. pañca (p. 290) --பஞ்சம், adj. Five-fold, ஐந்து. W. p. 493. PANCHAT or PANCHAN. பஞ்சகச்சஞ்சொருக, inf. To tuck up the cloth in five ways. See சொருகு, v. பஞ்சகச்சாயம், s. Five kinds of cakes. பஞ்சகதி, s. The five paces of the horse. See துரககதி. பஞ்சகந்தம், s. The five aromatics. See கந்தம். பஞ்சகம், s. Any thing of five parts. பஞ்சகம்மாளர், s. [also பஞ்சாளர்.] The five castes of mechanics. See கம்மாளர், under கம். பஞ்சகர்த்தாக்கள், s. The five deities, or forms of deity performing operations for the benefit of souls. 1. பிரமா, creator, or evolver of the universe; 2. விட்டுணு, preserver, who furnishes each soul with its allotted portion of jois, and sorrows, as the results of former actions; 3. உருத்திரன், destroyer, reducing souls and worlds to their primitive elements; 4. மகேசுரன், obscurer, darkening the understanding, that the soul may act, and work off its accumulation of moral evil, so as to become ripe for salvation; 5. சதாசிவன், enlightener of illuminator, who imparts divine grace, and prepares the soul for emancipation, and union with the deity. See பஞ்சகிருத்தியம், under கிருத்தியம். பஞ்சகலாத்தானங்கள், s. The five parts of the body touched by the gurus in giving தீட்சை. பஞ்சகலை, s. The five operations performed by five பஞசகர்த்தாக்கள். See ஐந் தொழில், கிருத்தியம். பஞ்சகுரோசஎல்லை, s. The distance of five calls of குரோசம், around Benares, within which no foreign religionist, or other unclean person, should come. பஞ்சகோசம், s. The five sheaths of the soul. See கோசம். பஞ்சகோணம், s. A pentagon. See ஐங்கோணம். பஞ்சகோலம், s. The mixture of five spices, சுக்கு, திப்பிலி, திப்பிலிமூலம், செவ்வியம், and சித்திரமூலம்; [ex Kola. pepper.] பஞ்சகௌடம், s. The five divisions of Bengal or the கௌடம் country. See கௌடம். பஞ்சகௌவியம், The five products of the cow, used in ceremonial purifications, viz. milk, curds, ghee, urine and dung, ஆனிடத்தைந்து. பஞ்சகௌவியம்கூட்டித்தெளித்தல். Mixing the five ingredients and sprinkling the the floor, &c.--Note. The same mixture is administered to the woman after child-birth; also sprinkled on the child at the time of purification. பஞ்சகொ?வியப்பிராசினம். Eating the above compound as a purification. பஞ்சசத்தி, s. The five saktis. See சத்தி. பஞ்சசயனம், s. The five kinds of beds. See சயனம். பஞ்சசிகை, s. The five parts of the body which the Shastras forbid to be shaved; the crown of the head, the two eye-brows, and the arms from the elbow to the hand. பஞ்சசுத்தி, s. The five purifications. See சுத்தி. பஞ்சணை, s. [com. for பஞ்சசயனம்.] The five kinds of mattresses, filled with silk-cotton, red cotton, white cotton, hair, or feathers. 2. See பஞ்சு. பஞ்சதந்திரம், s. [in politics.] The five means of accomplishing one's object; 1. மித்திரபேதம், sowing discord among friends; 2. சுகிர்லாபம், associating with equals; 3. சக்திவிக்கிரகம், associating with a foe and ruining him; 4. அர்த்தநாசம், spending one's property to gain an object; 5. அசம்பிரெட்சியம், acting without inquiry, examination, &c. பஞ்சதந்திரக்கதை, s. Panchatantra. பஞ்சதம்--பஞ்சதை, s. Death, dissolution og the five elements of whose aggregate the body consists, மரணம். பஞ்சதரு--பஞ்சதாரு, s. The five trees in Swerga. Sugar, சருக்கரை. பஞ்சதிரவிடம், s. The five provinces of Southern India. See திராவிடம். பஞ்சதிரவியம், s. The five productions of the cow used in purification. See கௌவியம். பஞ்சநகம், s. An elephant. 2. A tortoise, ஆமை. W. p. 493. PANCHANAKHA. பஞ்சநகக்கூர்மையோன், s. A tortoise as having five divisions in its claws. பஞ்சநதி, s. The Punjaub having five rivers, as famous for sacred bathing. பஞ்சநிம்பம், s. The five parts of the Neem, or Margosa tree; the flowers fruit, leaves, bark and root; [ex நிம்பம், margosa.] பஞ்சபட்சி, s. The five birds for augury. See பஞ்சபட்சிக்காதல், under காதல். --The letters, அ, இ, உ, எ, and ஒ, are applied to the birds, and the following accidents, உண்டி, feeding, நடை, walking, அரசு, governing, தூக்கம், sleeping, and சாவு; dying. பஞ்சபட்சிக்காதல், s. A treatise on augury. பஞ்சபட்சிவேளை, s. Augury from the eating, sleeping, walking, governing and dying of the five birds, between the full and the new moon. 2. An auspicious hour, ascertained by augury. பஞ்சபர்வங்கள், s. Five religious ceremonial days in each fortnight. பஞ்சபாணம், s. [alsoஐங்கணை.] The five arrows of Kama consisting of five kinds of flowers; வனசம், lotus; 2. குதம், mango; 3. அசோகு, ashoka; 4. முல்லை, jasmine; 5. நீலம், blue water lily. பஞ்சபாணன், s. Kama, the god of love, as armed with the five arrows, காமன். பஞ்சபாணாவஸ்தை, s. The five effects produced by the arrows of Kama; சுப்பிரயோகம், thinking and talking of the person loved; 2. விப்பிரயோகம், sighing and lamenting; 3. சோகம், heat or feverishness, nausea and languishing; 4. மோகம், weeping and bewliderment of the faculties; 5. மரணம், death or suspension of the natural powers. பஞ்சபாணி, s. Parvati, as armed with five arrows, பார்வதி. பஞ்சபாண்டவர், s. [pl.] The five Pandavas. See ஐவர். பஞ்சபாதகம், s. [pl.] [also பஞ்சமாபாதகம்.] The five heinous sins; கொலை, murder; 2. காமம், lust; 3. களவு, theft or fraud; 4. கள்ளுண், drinking intoxicating liquor; 5. குருநிந்தை, abuse of the Guru. [in Hindu astron.] The table of the moon's given longitudes from apogee and daily motions for two hundred and fortyeight days. பஞ்சாங்குலம், s. The castor-plant whose leaves resemble the five digits, ஆமணக்கு; [ex அங்குலம்.] பஞ்சாசயம், s. The five receptacles in the body are: ஆமாசயம், the stomach; 2. இரத்தசயம், the heart; 3. கர்ப்பாசயம், the womb; 4. சலாசயம், the bladder; 5. மலாசயம், rectum. பஞ்சாக்ஷரம், s. As பஞ்சாக்கரம். பஞ்சாமிர்தம்--பஞ்சாமுதம், s. The five delicacies; milk, curds, ghee, sugar, and honey. (in Wils.) 2. (R.) A mixture of plantains, cocoa kernel, milk, sugar and honey, used in anointing an idol. பஞ்சாமிலம், s. An aggregate of the five acids, jujube. இலந்தை; pomegranate, மாதளை; sorrel, புளியாரை; emblica, நெல்லி, citron, எலுமிச்சை; [ex ஆமிலம்.] W. p. 494. PANCHAMILA. பஞ்சாயுதம், s. The five weapons of Vishnu; the discus, club, chank, bow and sword. 2. [prov.] A gold ornament worn by children or women, on the neck with the tali, bearing in relief the five weapons of Vishnu. It is of two kinds, அரசிலைப்பஞ்சாயுதம், one made in the form of fig-leaf; வட்டப்பஞ்சாயுதம், one in a circular form, ஓராபரணம். பஞ்சாயுதபாணி-பஞ்சாயுதன், s. Vishnu, as bearing the five weapons. பஞ்சார்க்கம், s. Remaining demerit of souls at the close of a term of existence, to be expiated afterwards, ஊழின்மீதி. பாவச்சடம்--பாவசரீரம், s. Bodies assumed as the effect of former actions. பாவச்சுமை, s. The burden of sin; accumulated evil to be expiated by suffering. பாவஞ்சுமக்க, inf. To contract sin. See சும, v. பாவஞ்செய்ய, inf. To sin, to do evil. பாவஞ்செய்தகுடி. What is allowed to brahmans, or held free by them. பிரமதானம்--பிரமஸ்தானம், s. The inmost recess in a temple where the chief idol is placed, as கர்ப்பக்கிரகம். பிரமதேவன், s. The god Brahma, the Creator or Evolver of worlds. பிரமத்துவம், s. The divine nature, கட வுட்டன்மை. பிரமநிருவாணம், s. Union with the deity, கடவுளுடனொன்றுகை. பிரமபதம்--பிரமபதவி, s. The tender part of the crown of the head where the bone is not formed in infancy, and through which it is said the soul of a yogi departs when he chooses to die, உச்சித்துவாரம். பிரமராட்சதன், s. A goblin or savage animated by the soul of a brahman, who in a former birth died with unexpiated sin. பிரமராட்சதி-பிரமராட்சதை, s. The ghost of a brahmani who having died a violent death appears in the form of a demon, inhabiting trees and possessing all the knowledge previously obtained, பார்ப் பாரப்பெண்பேய். பிரமலிபி, s. The writing of Brahma in the forehead of all persons before birth; fate, destiny. See தலைஎழுத்து. பிரமலிபிதப்பாது. The writing of Brahma will not fail. பிரமலோகம், s. The world and heaven of Brahma, being the seventh and highest of the seven upper worlds, also called சத்தியலோகம். (சது.) பிரமவமிசம், s. Lineage in succession from Brahma. 2. The race of brahmans, பிராமணசாதி. பிரமவாதம், s. The religious tenets of the Vedas considered systematically, வேதமதம். பிரமவித்து, s.
