āṉntm (p. 44) s. A medicinal root, அரத்தை, Alpinia galanga, L. 2. A supposed inauspicious form of construction in poetry, பாக்குற்றங்களினோர்வகை. It is of six kinds; viz.: 1. எழுத்தானந்தம், lengthening the final long vowel or mute of the name of the patron of a poem, பாட்டுடைத்தலைவன்பெயர் சார்த்தியளபெழப்பாடுவது; உ-ம். நறுமாலைதாராய்தி ரையவோஒ வென்பள் செறுமாலைசென்றடைந்தபோ ழ்து. 2. சொல்லானந்தம், using a word in a poem, so that an undesigned, inauspicious meaning may be applied to its patron, இயற்பெயர்மருங்கின் மங்கலமழிக்குந்தொழிற் சொற்பு ணர்ப்பது; உ-ம். தண்மதியமின்னிவரிந்திலங்கும்வெ ண்குடைச்செங்கோல்விசய னெரிந்திலங்கும் வேலி னெழும். 3. பொருளானந்தம், inauspicious expressions of different kinds, in poems as following. (a) Stating in a poem written in praise of a king, or a great man, that the productions of his land are injured or ruined, இறைச்சிப்பொருளையூறுபடக்கூறுதல்; உ-ம். குட்டியுந்தாயுமவ்விடரகம்புக்குவீழ்ந்தன வீழக் குரங்குகளெல்லாமவற்றுக்கிரங்கி யழுது பெரியதோரார வாரமெழுந்ததவ்வரையை யொருவிப்போமினென்றான். (b.) Stating inauspicious actions as praise, மங்கலமழியக்கூறுகை; உ-ம். பீலிவிரித்துப்பலமயிலி ருந்தென வழிவந்தசைந்தவ்வருத்தத்தாற்றத்தங்கேசங்களை யெடுத்து முடிக்கில்லாதுவிரித்திருப்பரவன் வரைமேல். (c.) Stating an inapplicable comparison, உவமைக்காட்சியிலூனந்தோன்றக்கூறுவது; உ-ம். பெ யலொடு வைகிய வியன்கணிரும்பனத் தகலிருவிசும்பி னாஅரல்போலவாலிதின்மலர்ந்தபுன்கொடிமுசுண்டை. (d) Stating that a calamity or injury happened to that which is compared to the patron of the poem, பாட்டுடைத்தலைவனோ டுவமிக்கப்பட்டதற் கிடையூறுபடச் சொல்லுவது; உ-ம். வெற்பினிற்பொருத விறலோனன்ன பொற்புறு பரூஉத்தாட்போதகந்துரந்த. (e.) Comparing the patron of a poem to the meanest thing, இறப்பவிழிந்தவானந்த உவமை; உ-ம் வள்ளெயிற்றுப் பேழ்வாய் ஞமலிக்கு மான்குழா மெள்ளியிரிந்தாற்போ லெவ்வழியும் வள்ளற்கு மாலார்கடலன்ன மண்பரந்த வாட்டானை மேலாருமேலார் விரைந்து. (f) Comparing the meanest person or thing to the highest, இறப்ப வுயர்ந்த வானந்தவுவமை; உ-ம். இந்திரனேபோலுமிளஞ்சாத்தன் சாத்தற்கு மந்தரமேபோ ன்றுளது மல்லாகம் மந்தரத்துத் தாழருவிபோன்றுளதுதார் மாலையம்மாலை யேழுலகுநாறுமிணர், (g.) Comparing the patron of a poem to a thing that loses its power or eminence, இறந்துபாட்டு வமையானந்தம்; உ-ம். சென்றுபடுபரிதியிற்சிறந்ததோ ற்றத்தை. 4. யாப்பானந்தம், constructing a poem so that the name of its patron may follow a noun which is preceded by a word placed after the rhyming word of the stanza, முதற் றொடைமருங்கின் மொழிநிறுத்தொருபெயரிடைப்படுத் தவ்வழியிருசீர்ப்படப்பாடுவது; உ-ம். ஊகத்தினான்ம ல்குசோலையுழியனுயர்வரைவாய் மேகத்தினாலுமின்னாலு மெலிந்துநைந்த வாகத்தினானேற்கருளாயென்பணியு மைவாய் நாகத்தினான்மால் கடைந்திடப்பட்ட நளிகட லே. 5. தூக்கானந்தம், constructing a musical poem so that the name of its patron shall be inauspiciously, indistinctly, or abruptly pronounced, யாழொடுபுணர்ந்தபாவிற்பாட்டுடைத் தலைவன்பெயர் அமங்கலமாகத்தொனிக்கவும், ஒருவற் குப்புலனாகாதிருக்கவும், பிரிந்திசைக்கவும்பாடுதல். 6. தொடையானந்தம், placing the name of the patron of a poem at the beginning of the stanza, so that it may rhyme with அளபெ டை; அளபெடைத்தொடைப்பாட்டினுட்பாட்டுடைத் தலைவன்பெயர்சார்த்தியளபெடுப்பத்தொடுப்பது; உ-ம். வாஅ வழுதிமதுரைமறுகினிற்பொலிபகைமுனைப்போர். 7)

uti (p. 60) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To rise--as the sun, moon, &c., உதயமாக. 2. To be born--as a good or great personage, to be born, (spoken auspiciously, sometimes of common persons) பிறக்க. 3. To become incarnate--as a deity, to assume a form, அவதரிக்க. 4. To spring, arise, come into existence, grow out of, (தீ. 55.) to originate, become formed or developed, to have origin--as a book, science, &c., to arise--as primitive elements one out of another; to become evolved--as the world, &c., தோன்ற. 5. To commence--as a new period of time whether age, year, a month or otherwise, காலந்தொடங்க. 6. To swell, increase in size, பருக்க. நானுடனேயங்கேவந்துதிப்பேன். I will be in your company immediately. உலகமுதித்துதித்தொடுங்கும். The worlds appear and disappear again and again, (emanating from and being resolved into their primitive elements). கிணற்றிலேதண்ணீருதித்தது. The water has sprung up in the (new) well--an auspicious word. மனதிலுதித்தநினைவு. The thoughts that arose in the mind. 14) *

uy (p. 63) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To live as man, beast, or vegetables; to subsist, survive, revive or flourish--as trees, plants, &c., சீவிக்க. 2. (p.) To obtain benefits, privileges, &c.; to be blessed, to be happy, to prosper, flourish, to be relieved from distress, oppression, suffering, &c., உயிர்வாழ. 3. To obtain heavenly bliss, to gain exemption from transmigration, ஈடேற. 4. To escape from dangers, wild beasts, &c., to flee from, தப்ப. உய்கதியால்--உய்தடி, s. A live hedge-stick. உய்தவம், s. Austerities leading to bliss. உய்பயிர், s. Thriving crops, trees, &c. 2. (fig.) A person in thriving circumstances. உய்வனவு, v. noun. [prov.] Flourishing or reviving as a tree, செழிப்பு. 2. Living, subsistence, maintenance, சீவனம். 3. s. Means of attaining eternal bliss, ஈடேற்றம். This word properly must be உய்வு. உய்விக்க, inf. To save alive, cause to live, prosper, flourish, &c. This is the causative of உய். உய்வு--உய்தி, v. noun. Enjoyment of life, prosperity, felicity, உயிர்வா ழ்வு. 2. Bliss, salvation, ஈடேற்றம். 3. Living, life as spoken auspiciously, உயிர்க்கை. ஒருவன்செய்நன்றிகொன்றார்க்குய்தியில்லெனவ றம்பாடின்றே. The divine laws declare that to the ungrateful there is no happiness here or hereafter. kumārtti (p. 122) s. A daughter, commonly young--auspiciously spoken, புத்திரி. 2. A king's youthful daughter, a princess; a young woman of royal or exalted birth, இராசகுமாரி. 22) *

kuḷir (p. 131) -- குளிரு, கிறது, ந்தது, குளிரும், குளிர, v. n. To be cold, chilly, frigid; to be cold to the touch; to be moist, damp, குளிர்கொள்ள. 2. To be cool, to be refreshed, குளிர்ச்சியுற. 3. To be refreshing, gratifying, pleasant, cheering to the touch, sight or hearing; to be engaging, attactive, benignant--as the countenance, இதமாக. 4. To be appeased, consoled, comforted, சாந்தமுற. 5. To die--spoken of death in time of epidemies, when fear of the avenging goddess prevents the use of the proper word, வசூரிமுதலியவியாதியால்மரிக்க. அப்பாவென்றால்உச்சிகுளிருமா. Will merely saying அப்பா afford relief? i. e. not mere words, but actions are necessary. அவன்ஒரு குளிர்ந்தகொள்ளி. He is a coldblodded persons; a man of a fair speech, but an enemy at heart. இப்பொழுதுஎனக்குமனங்குளிர்ந்தது. I am now refreshed, satisfied, gratified, appeased, &c. உச்சிகுளிர்ந்தது. The head has been cooled or refreshed--as on hearing joyful intelligence, &c. எனக்குக்குளிருகின்றது. I feel cold. என்வயிறுகுளிர்ந்ததுபோல உன்மாளிகையுங்குளிர வேண்டும். May you and your family be refreshed as I have been--an expression of thanks for favors received. சரீரமெல்லாங்குளிர்ந்தது. The whole body is refreshed. குளந்தைஅம்மைவார்த்துக்குளிர்ந்துபோயிற்று. The child has died of small-pox. குளிரப்பண்ண--குளிரவைக்க, inf. To cool wines, spirits, &c. 2. To refresh, to satisfy the appetite, the mind, &c.; to regale, to oblige, to appease. கண்குளிரப்பார்த்தான். He feasted his eyes with a gratifying sight. காதுகுளிரக்கேட்டேன். My ears were refreshed by hearing. நிலங்குளிரமழைபெய்தது. It rained abundantly so as to cool the earth. மனங்குளிரக்கொடுத்தேன். I gave him as much as he desired. குளிர்ந்தகிரணம், s. A gratifying light, lustre, &c.--as of the moon, a gem, &c. குளிர்ந்தகுரல், s. A pleasant voice in singing. குளிர்ந்தசரீரம், s. A cool temperament of body. குளிர்ந்தநிழல், s. Refreshing shade. குளிர்ந்தநிறம், s. A gay, cheerful, fine color. குளிர்ந்தநீர், s. cool water. 2. Cooled water after boiling, &c. 3. Good water in gems. குளிர்ந்தபார்வை, s. Engaging, attractive, benignant looks. குளிர்ந்தமுகம், s. Benignant expression of countenance. குளிர்ந்தபூமி, s. A cool climate. குளிர்ந்தபேச்சு--குளிர்ந்தவசனம்--கு ளிர்ந்தவார்த்தை, s. Pleasant, comforting, gratifying language. குளிர்ந்தவாசனை, s. Refreshing odors. குளிர்ந்தமனம், s. A calm, composed mind. 2. A benevolent mind. 3. A pleasant temper, an obliging disposition. குளிர்ந்தபரிமளம், s. A kind of native arsenic, சீதாங்கபாஷாணம். குளிர்ந்துகொல்லி, s. A cold blooded person. குளிர்ந்துகிடக்க--குளிர்ந்துபோக, inf. To become cold--as water after boiling. 2. To die--used auspiciously in time of epidemics. குளிர்ச்சி, v. noun. [imp. குளிர்த்தி. vul. குளுத்தி.] Coolness, refrigeration, சீதளம். 2. That which is refreshing, pleasant, gratifying, appeasing; cooling offerings, திருத்திசரம். கண்ணுக்குக்குளிர்ச்சி. Refreshing to the eyes. தெய்வத்துக்குக்குளிர்த்திசெய்தான். He gave cooling fruits to appease the goddess or demon. குளிர்ச்சிப்பண்டம்--குளிர்மைப்பண் டம், s. Any thing that is cooling, refrigerative. குளிர்ச்சியானசாப்பாடு--குளிர்மையான சாப்பாடு, s. Refreshing or cooling kinds of food. குளிர்ச்சியாயிருக்க, inf. To be cool, refreshing to the system. குளிர்ப்பிக்க--குளிர்விக்க, inf. v. a. To cool, to refrigerate; to refresh with water, perfumes, &c.; to gratify the mind, sight, &c., குளிரச்செய்ய. 8)

cītṉm (p. 190) s. Dowry, மகளுக்குக்கொடு க்கும்பொருள்; [ex சீ, Lukshmi, auspiciously, a wife, et தனம், wealth; but more probably from Sa. Sreed'hana.] (c.) சீதனக்காணி, s. See காணி. சீதனக்காரி, s. A woman with a dowry. சீதனங்கொடுக்க, inf. To present marriage gifts to a daughter. சீதனச்சீட்டு--சீதனவுறுதி--சீதனவோலை, s. [prov.] A dowry-ola, a dowry-contract on ola, or paper. சீதனஆட்சி, s. [prov.] Right of possession by dowry. சீதனம்வந்தது. The marriage furniture has come. (R.) 61) *

cīpātam (p. 190) s. The divine feet, spoken auspiciously of the deity, திருவடி. 2. A term of respect to a guru, or other superior; also in epistolary writings, குருவடி. See சீர்பாதம். 86)

cīvi (p. 191) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. n. To subsist, have food, maintenance, support, உயிர்வாழ. 2. To live, as the soul in a state of corporeal existence, not absorbed in the deity, உடலுடன்கூடிவாழ. 3. To be active, not torpid; to operate, energize, exert efficiency--as the soul through the bodily organs, முயல. 4. To be in exercise --as the powers of the body, or mind, in wakeful hours, விழித்திருக்க. 5. To sojourn, dwell, சஞ்சரிக்க. 6. To have enjoyment, அனுபவிக்க; [ex சீவன்.] சீவித்துப்போக--சீவித்துவிட, inf. tūmai (p. 254) s. Cleanliness, purity, cleanness, சுத்தம். (சது.) 2. White, வெண்மை. (See தூ.) 3. [vul.] Catamenia; மகளீர்சூதகம்; spoken auspiciously as tending to purity. தூமைச்சீலை, s. Menstruous cloths; in abuse, a man is called by this term. 16)

niṟai (p. 277) கிறது, ந்தது, யும், ய, v. n. To become full, பூரணப்பட. 2. To abound, be copious, plenteous, profuse, மிக. 3. To overflow, be suffused, பெருக. 4. To be satisfied, contented, replenished, saturated, திருத்தியாக. 5. To be or become complete or replete, to be finished, perfected, பரிபூரணமாக. (c.) நிறைந்திருங்கள். Be still, be silent, spoken when some important thing is done auspiciously. நிறைகரகம், s. A vessel filled with water and carried on the head in a dance in honor of Máriammai and other female deities. நிறைகர்ப்பம், s. Advanced pregnancy. நிறைகர்ப்பிணி, s. A woman near the time of her delivery. நிறைகலை, s. [com. பூரணகலை.] Fulness, entireness, completion of the parts, பூர ணாமிசம். 2. Splendor as fancied in the face of an idol, from a supposed divine afflatus, பூரணதேயசு. 3. The full moon, பூரணசந்திரன். 4. The manifestation of a deity in full glory, முழுக்காட்சி. 5. Poissession of an oracle by a deity or demon, பூரணசத்தி. 6. (fig.) Being intoxicated, top heavy, முழுவெறி. நிறைகன்றுத்தாய்ச்சி, s. [prov.] A cow with calf. நிறைகுடம், s. A full pot of water, as used in ceremonies and on festive occasions, adorned with a cocoanut, mango leaves, grain, &c., as an auspicious sight, &c., also one of the ensigns of royalty. See குடம். நிறைசபை--நிறைந்தசபை, s. A full meeting, council or court. நிறைசன்னி, s. A full fit of apoplexy. மூடுசன்னி. நிறைசூல், s. Full pregnancy, commonly applied to cattle. 2. (p.) Teeming with buds, ready to blossom or bear --as trees, &c. நிறைசெல்வம், s. Adundant wealth, independent opulence. நிறைசெல்வன், s. Kuvera, god of wealth, குபேரன். நிறைநரம்பு, s. Being full-stringed, as a lute with ten strings; as நிறைநரம்புள்ள வீணை. நிறைநாழி, s. Full measure of the நாழி. நிறைநாழிவைத்தல், v. noun. Placing a measure full of paddy at a marriage, funeral, &c., deemed auspicious, ஓர்சடங்கு. நிறைந்தகுணம்--நிறைந்தமனம், s. A satisfied, contented mind. 2. A cheerfull disposition. நிறைந்தமனிதன், s. A man of noble mind. 2. A perfect man. நிறைந்திருக்க, inf. To be full, complete. 2. To be still, silent, &c., as a company. நிறைந்தவீடு, s. A marriage-house, an auspicious term. நிறைபயிர், s. Thick corn, அடர்ந்தப யிர். நிறைபாரம், s. [improp. நிறைவாரம்.] A heavy load, கனத்தசுமை. 2. Being fully adorned with jewels, &c., அணிகலத்தின்மி குதி. 3. [in contempt.] Eating to the full, மட்டின்றிச்சாப்பிடல். 4. Being loaded with fruit as a tree, பழமிகுதி. நிறைபானை, s. A full jar. நிறைபிள்ளைத்தாய்ச்சி, s. A woman in advanced pregnancy. நிறைபூசல், s. [vul. நிறுபூசல்.] Great noise, bustle, stir, பேரொலி. நிறைபொங்கல், s. A full, overflowing, auspicious boiling, as of rice and milk, at the Pongul, தைப்பொங்கல். 2.
