iẕi (p. 55) கிறேன், ந்தேன், வேன், ய, v. n. To descend, dismount, sink, fall into, to be involved in, இறங்க. 2. To be degraded, disgraced, to degenerate, to be reduced in character, estimation, rank or circumstances, இழிவுபட. 3. To fall below mediocrity, to be inferior, to be below in comparison, தாழ. இழிகடை, s. [vul.] The meanest, lowest, most degraded, மிகவிழிந்தது. (Abusively.) அவனொரு இழிகடை. He is a low wretch. இழிகண், s. Inflammation of the eyes causing the lids to droop, இழிந்தகண். இழிகுலத்தோர், s. Low caste people, கீழ்மக்கள். இழிசனர், s. Persons of low caste, illiterate or ill-bred people, கீழ்மக்கள். இழிசனர்வார்த்தை, s. The vulgar dialect. இழிசொல், s. Disgraceful or improper language, பழிச்சொல், of which four kinds are enumerated, viz.: 1. கோள் --குறளை, an invidious or injurious report, tale bearing, aspersion, slander, backbiting. 2. பொய்மொழி, lying, falsehood. 3. கடுஞ்சொல், harsh expressions, irritating language, scolding. 4. பயனில்சொல், nonsense, idle talk, vain expressions. 2. A vulgar word, இழிவானசொல். இழிஞர், s. Low caste people, the vulgar, the wretched, the miserable, debased, ignoble persons, சண்டாளர். இழிதகவு, v. noun. Inferiority, baseness, disgrace, degradation, meanness, இழிவு. 2. s. Poverty, destitution, எளிமை. இழிதிணை, s. The inferior class. See திணை. இழிந்தோர், s. The vulgar, the illiterate, low-bred persons, தாழ்ந்தோர். இழிபு, v. noun. Lowness, inferiority, meanness, degradation, baseness, தாழ்வு. 2. A hollow or ditch, any hole or cavity, depressions in land, பள்ளம். வெள்ளைக்கிழிபு, s. The less or minor species of வெண்பா verse. இழிவு, v. noun. Inferiority, lowness in rank or character, meanness, baseness, தாழ்வு. 2. Contempt, disgrace, dishonor, ignominy, abjectness, wretchedness, abasement, நிந்தை. 3. Diminution, decrease, a diminished quantity, deficiency, குறைவு. 4. A hollow or cavity, பள்ளம். 5. Decay, ruin, destruction, கேடு. 6. Fault, blemish, deviation from rule, misdemeanor, குற்றம். இழிவறிந்துண்பான். One who eats knowing the advantages of a spare diet. இழிவுபட, inf. To grow mean, base, vile, to deteriorate, be in disgrace, to be degraded, ஈனப்பட. இழிவுபடுத்த, inf. v. a. To degrade, disgrace, deteriorate, debase, தாழ்வுபடுத்த. இழிவுபண்ண, inf. kuṇṭi (p. 118) s. The buttocks, backside, fundament, seat, rump of an animal; any rump-like protuberance, ஆசனபக்கம். 2. The kidney, பிருக்கம். 3. The heart, இருதயம். 4. The roe or spawn of a fish, மீன்சினை. 5. The lower end of fruits, nuts, &c.; that opposite the stalk, பழத்தின்கீழ்ப்புறம். குண்டிகழுவ, inf. To wash after passing excrements. குண்டிகழுவாதவர்கள், s. Those who do not wash themselves; a term of reproach given to Europeans--the practice being regarded as filthy. குண்டிக்காய், s. Kidneys, பிருக்கம். குண்டிக்குப்பின்னேபேச, inf. To backbite, to speak ill of one behind his back; low, and in anger. குண்டிக்கொழுப்பு, s. Pride, wantonness, arrogance, sauciness, insolence. குண்்டிச்சீலையைப்போட்டுக்கடக்க, inf. [prov.] To take an oath by stepping over the cloth taken from the waist; as practised by the lower castes. குண்டிமண்ணைத்தட்டிவிட்டோட, inf. [prov.] To leave, renounce or desert a person, thing, &c.; lit. to wipe off the dust of the buttocks and run away, விட் டுவிட. 2. To outwit, to out-scheme, to out-do another in cheating, &c., தந்திரத் திலேவெல்ல. குண்டியடிபடவிழ, inf. To fall on the buttocks from a height. குண்டியும்வாயும்பொத்த, inf. To stand in great awe of a person; to be much afraid; lit. to stop the mouth by one hand and put the other behind to save a kick, &c. குண்டியெலும்பு, s. The os sacrum, ஆச னவென்பு. குண்டிவற்ற, s. inf. [prov.] To be reduced as the mettle, arrogance; lit. the buttocks to be dry, பெருமையடங்க.

koṭumai (p. 146) s. Cruelty, tyranny, oppression, violence inhumanity, கொடுங்கோன் மை. 2. Severity, harshness, vehemence, impetuosity, barbarousness, குரூரம். 3. Crookedness, flexture, obliquity, வளைவு. (Sans. Kota, crookedness.) 4. roughness, harshness, uncouthness, frightfulness, கோ ரம். 5. Vileness, turpitude, wickedness, baseness, flagrance, flagitiousness, தீமை. 6. Injustice, அநீதி. 7. Sharpness, poignancy, severity, கூர்மை. 8. adj. Satirical, offensive, injurious, கடுமை.--Note. In most of its meanings, bad or injurious qualities are implied. It differs from கடு மை, in Several meanings. Like that and similar abstract nouns, it drops the termination and combines with other nouns as an adjective, according to rule. வறுமைகொடிது. Poverty is cruel. வயிற்றுக்கொடுமையினால்வருந்துகிறான். He is vexed by want of food. கொடிது--கொடியது, appel. noun. That which is cruel, கொடுமையானது. கொடியகாடு, s. A wild, inhospitable desert. கொடியகூற்றன், s. The cruel Yama. கொடியசண்டாளர், s. Desperate wretches. கொடியபிறவி, s. Vile births--as evils to which souls are subject; horrid transmigration--as keeping the soul from union with the deity. கொடியமனம், s. A cruel or envious disposition. 2. The evil heart. கொடியமுகம், s. A frightful visage; a fierce countenance. கொடியமோசம், s. Flagrant errors. கொடியவஞ்சனை, s. Base turpitude. 2. A desperate fraud; a base imposition. கொடியவன், s. A vile wretch, a hardhearted cruel man. கொடியவீரன், s. A kind of prepared arsenic, கோடாசொரிபாஷாணம். (Rott.) கொடியவெப்பம், s. Oppressive, vehement heat of weather or climate, &c. 2. Poignant qualities of medicines. கொடியோன், s. A cruel man. 2. The plant, கற்றாழை, Aloes. கொடுங்கண், s. An evil eye, a cruel eye. கொடுங்காலம், s. A time of dearth, scarcity, drought, &c. 2. A time of general suffering. 3. A time of oppression, cruelty, tyranny. கொடுங்கோல், s. A despotic government or rule; tyranny. (lit.) a crooked sceptre--as opposed to செங்கோல், a right sceptre, அரசின்முறைகேடு. கொடுங்கோள், s. Atrocious backbiting, disgraceful calumny, அவதூறு. கொடுங்கோன்மை, s. Despotism, tyranny; injustice, oppression, அரசின் முறைகேடு. கொடுசூரி--கொடுஞ்சூரி, s. [local.] A desperately wicked woman. கொடுநுகம், s. The tenth lunar asterism. See மகம். கொடுஞ்சொல், s. Rude, harsh, severe language; harshness, reproof, abuse, &c. --as கடுஞ்சொல் and வன்சொல். கொடும்பசி, s. Severe hunger. கொடுமரம், s. A bow, வில். 2. Sagitarius of the zodiac, தனுராசி. கொடுமுடிச்சு, s. A hard, intricate knot, படுமுடிச்சு. 2. (fig.) Malignant plot, a vile conspiracy; contrivance to ruin one, founded on falsehood or truth, சதியாலோசனை. கொடும்பகல், s. [local.] Mid-day. See கடும்பகல். கொடும்பாவி, s. A heinous sinner. கொடும்பாவை, s. The effigy of an old woman, dragged through the streets with lights and vociferation, in time of drought, and burnt to expiate public crime and bring rain. Sometimes கொடும் பாவி. கொடும்புரி, s. A hard, through twist in a string, &c. 2. (fig.) A deep-laid plot for effecting one's dismissal from office, &c. கொடுந்தமிழ், s. The vulgar dialect of the Tamil. See தமிழ். கொடுந்துயர், s.
