ūṭṭu (p. 69) கிறேன், ஊட்டினேன், வே ன், ஊட்ட, v. a. To put into the mouth-as of children, sick people, &c., உண்பிக்க. 2. To deal out food--as a wife to her husband, &c., to impart, cherish, உணவுகொடுக்க. 3. To entertain a guest, &c., விருந்திட. 4. To saturate, infuse, steep, impregnate, tincture, புகைமுதலியவூட்ட. 5. To cause to experience joys and sufferings--as the fruits of action, இன்பதுன்பங்களையருத்த. 6. (fig.) To instil--as knowledge, &c., நினைப்பூட்ட. (p.) 7. v. n. To suck--as the young of beasts, கன்றூட்ட. அவரைவைத்துக்கொண்டூட்டுகிறார்கள். They entertain him with great attention--an expression of envy. இரண்டாட்டிலூட்டினகுட்டியானான். He is like a kid that sucks two she-goats; i. e. he gets nothing by serving two masters. கன்றூட்டுகிறது. The calf sucks. ஊட்டக்கொடுக்க, inf. To let the calf suck (the act of the cow). ஊட்டவிட, inf. To lead the calf to the cow to suck. ஊட்டுந்தாய், s. a foster-mother, செவிலி. See தாய். பிழைப்பூட்ட, inf. To reanimate, restore to life. 2. To furnish means of sustenance. இந்தவைத்தியன்போகுமுயிரைப்பிழைப்பூட்டினான். The doctor has restored him to life. நினைப்பூட்ட, inf. To remind, to put in mind. நினைப்பூட்டி, s. A monument. ஊட்டு, v. noun. Feeding, உண் பிக்கை. 2. s. A morsel, or portion given to a child, a sick person, &c., கவளம். ஊட்டுக்கன்று, s. A sucking calf. ஊட்டுமறந்தகன்று, s. A weaned calf. ஊட்டுணை, s. Shaking of the head caused by old age, தலையாட்டம். (Rott.) *ஊணம், s. The country of the Huns or barbarians, ஓர்தேயம். Wils. p. 977. HOONA. ஊணர், s. ūṇ (p. 69) s. Food, உண்டி. 2. Boiled rice, சோறு. 3. Food of beasts, birds, இரை. 4. Sufferings and enjoyments ordained by God and experienced by the soul, as the fruits of action, நன்மைதீமையினால்விளையும் புசிப்பு. (தீ. 297.) ஊணற்றபோதேயுடலற்றுப்போம். The body cannot exist without food. ஊணற்றபோதேயுறவற்றது. Without entertainment friendship ceases. ஊணுக்குமுந்தவேண்டும்கோளுக்குப்பிந்தவேண்டும். Be first at a feast and the last at slander. ஊணன், s. (fem. ஊணி.) A glutton, மிகவுண்போன். 2. One who is too fond of eating, whose object is to fill his belly, போசனப்பிரியன். 3. A barbarian, மிலேச்சன். ஊணன்கருமமிழந்தான். The glutton failed in his object; i.e. the gluttonous will fail in their pursuits. ஊணுறக்கமில்லாதவன், s. One who neither eats nor sleeps. எனக்குஊணுமில்லையுறக்கமுமில்லை. I have neither food nor sleep. ஊண்பாக்கு, s. Betel-nut taken after eating, உண்டபின்றின்பாக்கு. ஊண்பாக்கொழியவீண்பாக்காகாது. Betelnut should be taken only after food. 52)

caṇṭāḷam (p. 158) s. Lowness, baseness, meanness, barbarism, இழிவு. 2. A base creature. a vile wretch, நீசன்; [ex Sa. chan'd'hala.] 3. (R.) A demon, பேய். (p.) மிருகசண்டாளங்கருத்தபம். An ass is the basest of animals. (p.) சண்டாளத்துரோகி--சண்டாளப்பாவி, s. A barbarous or vile wretch. (c.) சண்டாளப்பிராயச்சித்தம், s. Expiation of defilement from contact with a murderer, or other base wretch, or from the intrusion of such a one into a sacred shrine. &c. சண்டாளன்--சண்டாளி, s. A low degraded man, a villain, இழிஞன், 2. A man of low and degraded caste, a flesh eater, &c., புலைஞன். (c.) 3. An apostate who has forfeited the privileges of his religion, caste, &c., பதிதன். 4. One born of a Brahmani and a Sudra father, பார்ப் பனஸ்திரியிடத்திற்சூத்திரனுக்குப்பிறந்தோன். 13) *

tī (p. 242) adj. Evil, wicked, sinful. தீக்குணம், s. Evil disposition or practice; vice, evil, துர்க்குணம். Vices are of three classes, of மனம், வாக்கு, and காயம். 1. மனத்தீக்குணம், sins of the mind, as (a) கொலைநினைக்கை, murderous intention; (b) காமப்பற்று, libidinous desire; (c) ஆசை, avarice, ambition. 2. வாக்கின்தீக்குணம், sins of the mouth--as (a) பொய்சொல்லல், lying; (b) கோள்சொல்லல், tale-bearing; (c) கோபித்துச்சொல்லல், angry speaking; (d) பயனில்சொல்லல், trifling or vain discourse. 3. காயத்தீக்குணம், sins of the body--as (a) களவாடப்போதல், thievish practices; (b) வறிதேதொழில்செயல், idleness; (c) கொலை செயல், killing, murder. தீக்குணர், s. (plu.) The vile, the wicked. 2. The base, the low, (p.) தீக்குறி--தீச்சகுனம், s. A bad sign, symptom or omen, துன்னிமித்தம். தீக்கோள், s. A malignant planet, an evil portent, துர்க்கிரகம். See கோள். தீச்சொல்--தீமொழி, s. Slander, evil speaking, பழிச்சொல். (சது.) 2. Inauspicious or evil words; as curse, சாபம். தீத்தொழில், s. Evil practice, evil deeds. (நாலடி.) தீயது, appel. n. A bad or evil thing. தீயர், s. (Malayalim.) A low caste or tribe--oppos. to நாயர், high caste. தீயொழுக்கம், s. Evil conduct, a vicious course of life--oppos. to நல்லொ ழுக்கம். தீயோர்--தீயர், s. (plu.) The base, the vulgar, கீழ்மக்கள். 2. Savages, barbarians, மூடர். 3. Hunters those that live by the chase, வேடர். தீவினை, s. Evil deeds, vile conduct. wickedness, பாவம்; [ex வினை.] 4)

Wickedness, fierceness, ferocity, barbarity, கெட்டகுணம். துஷ்டசதுர்த்தர், s. Four ferocious persons celebrated in Mahabharat, துரியோத னன், துச்சாதனன், கண்ணன், சகுனி. துஷ்டசிரோமணி--துஷ்டசித்தன், s. A very wicked person. துஷ்டதேவதை, s. A malignant deity. துஷ்டத்தொழில், s. A barbarous or ferocious act. துஷ்டநடை--துஷ்டமார்க்கம், s. A wicked life. துஷ்டநிக்கிரகம், s. Destruction of the wicked; commonly as an attribute of a good king--oppos. to சிஷ்டபரிபாலனம். துஷ்டமிருகம், s. A wild beast. துஷ்டவித்தை, s. The black arts, as witchcraft, magic, &c., when employed for injury, or destruction. துஷ்டவினை, s. As துஷ்டவித்தை. 2. Evil effects of witchcraft, on the person against whom it is intended. துஷ்டன், s. (plu. துஷ்டர்.) A wicked man, a savage. 2. A scorpion, தேள். 53)

milēccam (p. 354) s. A country to the North of the Saraswati river in the neighborhood of Delhi, சரச்சுவதியாற்றின்வடதேசம். (சது.) மிலேச்சசாதிகள், s. Barbarous nations, foreigners. The tribes enumerated under this head by Menu, appear to be principally the inhabitants of the countries bordering on India, north and south; especially those adjacent to Bengal and Behar, and on the Southern part of the Coromandel coast, which are severally called Paundrakas, O'dras (Uriyas), and Draviras; also the Cambojas; Yavanas (Greeks or Bactrians); Sakas; Paravas; Pahlavas (ancient Persians); Chinese; Kiratas, generally mountaineers; Deradas (Darad&ae;) and K'hasas (Scuthi). W. p. 677.--Note. The term is now applied, more especially, to Europeans, and those from any remote country. மிலேச்சதேசம்--மிலேச்சமண்டலம், s. A foreign country, a country on the borders of India.--According to Wills. any country where the black antelope is not found. மிலேச்சத்தனம், s. Clownishness, barbarism. மிலேச்சன், s. [fem. மிலேச்சி, மிலேச் சஸ்திரீ.] A barbarian, one of a foreign tribe, of a foreign religion, customs, &c., கண்டகன்.-- According to Wils. one speaking any language but Sanskrit, and not subject to the usual Hindu institutions. 2. A weak man, simpleton, dunce, dolt, பேதையன். 3. A clown, clodhopper, மடையன்.
