arukku (p. 25) கிறேன், அருக்கினேன், வேன், அருக்க, v. a. To diminish, குறைக்க. 2. To make scarce, reduce in quantity, சுருக்க. 3. v. n. To keep back from others use, (as keeping up grain, making it scarce and dear,) to stand out in bargaining, stickle, haggle, அருக்காணிபண்ண. 4. To grudge, spare reluctantly, give sparingly, show unwillingness to serve or benefit another, அழுக்காறடைய. (திரிகடுகம்.) நீரருக்கிமோர்பெருக்கி நெய்யுருக்கியுண்பவர்தம் பே ருரைக்கப்போமே பிணி. He who drinks his water after boiling, his curds diluted, and his butter made ghee, will find sickness flee at the sound of his name. அருக்கு, v. noun. Scarceness, அ ருமை. 2. koṭu (p. 146) க்கிறேன், த்தேன், ப்பேன், க்க, v. a. To give, grant, afford, bestow, present, ஈய. 2. In combination, to issue--as commands; கட்டளையளிக்க; to communicate, impart--as knowledge, அறிவிக்க; to supply, give aid, உத விசெய்ய; to stay with the hand, or give support, முட்டுக்கொடுக்க; to create, give existence--as the Supreme Being, சிருட் டிக்க; to give place, to yield, இடங்கொடுக்க. Note.-- This word is generally used in its direct meanings of give, &c., only when there is a receiver, so as to correspond with வாங்க. It is therefore, except as to the elephant, incorrectly, though commonly, used in reference to the lower animals, Strictly also it implies the giving of a superior, to an inferior; but these distinctions are little noticed. When combined with the gerund of another verb or with a noun, the meaning is often modified--as சொல்லிக்கொடுக்க, to instruct, to teach; காட்டிக்கொடுக்க, to betray; முதுகு கொடுக்க, புறங்கொடுக்க, பின்கொடுக்க, to turn the back, to flee. கொடுப்பதொழியேல். Cease not to give [the poor.] கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல், v. noun. Dealing, bargaining. 2. Lending, borrowing, &c. அவனுக்குமெனக்குங்கொடுக்கல்வாங்கலுண்டு.... He and I have business transactions together. கொடுக்கல்வாங்கல்பண்ண, inf. To deal, bargain, barter; to lend and barrow. கொடுக்குமதி, s. [prov.] What is due to one, a debt. கொடாமை, v. noun. Not giving, withholding. கொடான். He will not give. கொடுத்துக்காட்ட, inf. To give and thus unintentionally encourage further application. கொடுத்துக்காட்டினால்விடார்கள். If you give way and encourage them, they will not let you be quiet. கற்றுக்கொடுக்க, inf. [loc.] To teach. சாகக்கொடுக்க, inf. To lose by death-as a mother her child, &c. புருஷனையுமகனையுஞ்சாகக்கொடுத்தேன்..... I have given my husband and son to death--lost them by death. நிறங்கொடுக்க, inf. To tinge, give a color. 2. To be sleek, smooth, plump-as a person in health. பால்பழங்கொடுக்க, inf. To present milk and peeled plantain--as the bride, to the bridegroom; the first food supplied to him. பெண்கொடுக்க, inf. To give a girl in marriage. முடித்துக்கொடுக்க, inf. To finish and give to another. 2. To marry; to give in marriage. வாங்கிக்கொடுக்க, inf. To take and give, that is, buy for another. கொடுப்பன--கொடுப்பனை, v. noun. Giving in marriage, கொள்வனை is receiving or marrying. எங்களுக்குமவர்களுக்குங் கொள்வினைகொடுப்பினை யில்லை. We do not intermarry. 6)

tuṇṭu (p. 247) s. Piece, bit, fragment, slice, scarp, morsel, துணிக்கை. 2. Section, division, strip, பங்கு. 3. A chit, billet, ticket or small note. சீட்டு. 4. A little piece of cloth, துணி. (c.) 5. [prov.] A bale of tobacco, consisting of four small or two large சிப்பம், இரண்டுசிப்பம்புகையிலை. 6. [in bur'esque.] Loss in trade, or bargaining, from the figure of cutting off, நஷ்டம். துண்டாட--துண்டாடிப்போட, inf. To cut a board, &c., in pieces. துண்டுக்காணி, s. A piece or strip of land. See துண்டி. துண்டுச்சீலை, s. A strip or piece of cloth. துண்டுபோட, inf. To cut into pieces. துண்டுபோட்டுத்தைக்க, inf. To patch a piece to a tattered garment. துண்டுப்பலகை, s. A board, slab, slate, &c. துண்டுருட்டி, s. Roundness of trunk, &c. 2. A large belly, பெருவயிறு. துண்டுருட்டிக்காளை, s. A fattened bull; sometimes குண்டுக்காளை. துண்டுவாசிகூட்ட--துண்டுவாகிகூட்டி வாங்க, inf. To recover what was lost. துண்டுவிழ, inf. To be cut into pieces. broken into fragments. 2. [in burlesque.] To happen or befall as a loss in trade, as a theft, &c. அந்தமரம்மூன்றுதுண்டுவிழும். That tree will form three pieces. 2)
