kāy (p. 104) s. Unripe fruits, fruits, that do not grow mellow by ripening--as grains, nuts, &c., கனிக்காய். 2. (c.) A callous tumour, an excrescence, a wart, a corn, a cicatrice from a wound, காய்ப்பு. 3. An unripe boil, &c., காய்ப்பரு. 4. A piece at chess, a die, சொக்கட்டான்காய். கட்டியின்னங்காயாயிருக்கிறது. The tumour is not yet ripe. காயவியல், s. A curry carelessly prepared with unripe fruits. காய்கறி, s. Fruits, vegetables and the like for preparing curry. காய்காய்க்க, inf. To form as a fruit; to produce fruit, to bear fruit. காய்காய்க்கிறமரம், s. A tree that bears fruit, not a barren tree. காய்க்கடுக்கன், s. [prov.] An ear-ring with a sacred seed fastened in it, for a bead, from which, if water fall on the body, in bathing, &c., it is deemed very meritorious, உருத்திராட்டக்கடுக்கன். காய்க்குலை, s. A bunch of unripe fruits. காய்ச்சீர், s. [in prosody.] Any of the four metrical feet ending in காய்காய்; also, a metrical foot equivalent in measure to a foot in காய். See சீர். காய்த்தானியம், s. The nine kinds of grains, called முதிரை, நவதானியம். 2. A shrub, கம்பளிகொண்டான், Morus Indica. காய்பறிக்க, inf. To pluck unripe fruits. காய்மடி, s. The thick, hard udder of a cow unfit for milk. காய்மடை, s. [prov.] An offering of fruits, commonly to a ferocious deity, கனிவர்க்கநிவேதனம். காய்ம்பனை, s. [prov.] A fruit-bearing palmyra tree, as distinguished from young trees and males, காய்க்கும்பனை. காய்வள்ளி, s. See வள்ளி. காய்வெட்டிக்கள், s. [prov]. Toddy from a Palmyra tree, the young fruits of which are cut off that the juice may flow from the stalk, காயைவெட்டி இறக்குங்கள். கருக்காய், s. Grain almost ripe. கருங்காய், s. Dark betel-nuts, not yet turned red. செங்காய், s. Fruits or grain turning yellow when ripening. பசுங்காய்--இளங்காய், s. Fruits just formed, tender grain. 2. immature fruit or grain. 90)

Amercement, mulct, fine, அபராதம். 6. (சது.) Sickness, நோய். முக்குற்றம், s. The three kinds of evil, incident to the soul in connexion with births, as darkening the understanding and leading to sin. 1. காமம், sexual desire, lust. 2. வெகுளி, anger. 3. மயக்கம், bewilderment, mental illusion. யாக்கைக்குற்றம், s. The five defects of the body; 1. கொட்டாவி, yawning. 2. நெட்டை, snapping the joints. 3. குறுகு றுப்பு, snoring. 4. கூன்கிடை, lying shrunk up. 5. நட்டுவிழல், nodding. அஷ்டகுற்றம், s. The opposite of these are peculiar to the deity. See எண்குணம் under குணம். நூற்குற்றம், s. The ten faults or defects in a literary composition. 1. குன்றக்கூறல், a partial statement--saying too little. 2. மிகைபடக்கூறல், redundancy-saying too much. 3. கூறியதுகூறல், tautology--repetition. 4. மாறுகொளக்கூறல், inconsistency--contradictory statements. 5. வழூஉச்சொற்புணர்த்தல், the employment of improper or inappropriate words and terms. 6. மயங்கவைத்தல், obscurity, mystification. 7. வெற்றெனத்தொடுத்தல், emptiness, barrenness. 8.மற்றொன்றுவிரித்தல், digression--introducing another subject. 9. சென்றுதேய்ந்திறுதல், gradual loss of vigor and tone. 1. நின்றுபயனின்மை, useless statements; verbosity; bombast. இமைக்குற்றங் கண்ணுக்குத்தெரியாது. The eye does not see the defect of the eyelashes; i. e. one's own errors, and those of his family and friends, are unnoticed. குற்றங்கடிய, inf. To avoid guilt. குற்றங்களைய, inf. To free from errors. குற்றங்காட்ட, inf. To expose faults. குற்றங்காண, inf. To find fault. 2. To blame, to be blameable, &c. குற்றஞ்சாட்ட--குற்றஞ்சுமத்த--குற் றப்படுத்த--குற்றமேற்ற, inf. To conviet, charge with a fault or crime; to accuse. அவன்மேற்குற்றஞ்சுமத்து. He has been found guilty. குற்றஞ்சாராதவன், s. An innocent man. குற்றஞ்செய்ய--குற்றம்பண்ண, inf. To commit a fault; to perpetrate a crime; to do wrong, &c. குற்றஞ்சொல்ல, inf. To accuse, criminate, blame, censure, charge with fault; to impeach. 2. To object, gainsay. 3. To criticize; to be hypercritical, censorious, captious; to expose faults. குற்றத்தைமறைக்க, inf. To deny a crime; to hide a fault. குற்றந்தீர்க்க--குற்றம்பரிகரிக்க, inf. To correct faults, to free from faults; to expurgate, exculpate, absolve. குற்றந்தெரிக்க, inf. To exhibit faults; to criticize, to sift--as a literary production. குற்றப்பட, inf. To be in fault; to be found guilty, criminal, blameable. குற்றப்பாடு, v. noun. The state of being in fault; accusation, imputation. குற்றம்பார்க்க--குற்றம்பிடிக்க, inf. To find fault, to be censorious. குற்றம்பார்க்கிற்சுற்றமில்லை. Censoriousness destroys friendship. குற்றமில்லான்--குற்றங்களில்லான், s. Argha--as an immaculate being, அருகன். 2. Any holy being; an innocent person. குற்றமிறுக்க, inf. To pay a fine. குற்றம்பாராட்ட, inf. To exaggerate one's faults; to magnify guilt; to dwell too much upon one's faults. குற்றம்பொறுக்க, inf. curm (p. 195) s. Desert, jungle, காடு. 2. A parched, barren tract of land, பாலைநிலம். (See பாலை.) 3. A narrow and difficult path, அருநெறி. 4. A way in general, வழி. 5. Palm-wine, toddy, கள். 6. Salt, உப்பு. 7. [prov. impr. for சுரை.] The quick of a finger or toe nail, the part that adheres to the flesh, நகத்தடி. 8. The hollow part of a horn, a quill, or of bones, உட்டொளை-In this meaning the word is applied to the hollow of a tooth, of a tree or branch, and to the openings of an &AE;olian harp. சுரந்தணிவித்தல், v. noun. Expressing wishes for the safety of a female who has eloped, and is in a forest, while her mother is passing. (p.) சுரம்போக்கு, v. noun. [in love poetry.] Eloping with a lover through a forest. சுரம்விழ, inf. [prov.] To form--as the குடல், or pith in trees. நாகசுரம், s. A kind of clarionet. See under நாகம். 29) *

cūtakam (p. 200) s. Birth, delivery, பிறப்பு. 2. (c.) Uncleanness, ceremonial impurity of a woman from catamenia, மகளீர்தொடக்கு. W. p. 94. SOOTAKA. 3. Ceremonial impurity of a person from the death of a relative, rendering him incompetent to perform certain rites; that from the father's side being greater, the mother's less, மரணசூதகம். 4. Ceremonial uncleanness in general, as of a person, house, clothes, &c., from a death, from menstruation, childbirth, miscarriage, touching a corpse or carcass; from shaving; contact of the finger, &c., with the spittle or any part of the mouth; touching one of low caste, or bathing in a tank of his village; or weeping, lamenting, &c., for a deceased acquaintance, தீட்டு. 5. Oldness, antiquity, பழமை.--Note. According to some, the causes of ceremonial impurity are five, viz.: 1. சனனாசூசம், or சாதகாசூசம், childbirth. 2. மரணாசூசம், or மிருதாசூசம், death. 3. சண்டாளநீரிற்றோய்தல், bathing in the waters used by low castes. 4. சுராபானம்பண்ணல், drinking toddy or ardent spirits. 5. பொய்கூறல், lying. The last seems but little regarded, also the fourth by many. Instead of the last three, the following are named by some; இருது சூதகம், menstruation. உச்சிட்டசூதகம், being spitten upon. சண்டாளபரிசசூதகம், contact with one of low caste. சூதகக்காரன், s. One ceremonially impure. சூதகக்காரி--சூதகஸ்திரி, s. A woman ceremonially unclean, by catamenia, or otherwise. சூதகக்கிராணி, s. A disease attending the childbirth, from wind or flatulency. சூதகங்கழிக்க, inf. To remove impurity by the prescribed means. சூதகங்காக்க, inf. To keep from society, abstain from venery, from shaving. &c., after a death, till the performance of the funeral rites. சூதகசன்னி, s. A disease of females from sexual intercourse during menstruation. See சன்னி. சூதகத்துக்குடையவர்கள், appel. n. Heirs of one deceased. சூதகமலடு, s. One of the six forms of barrenness. See மலடு. சூதகமாக, inf. To have the monthly course as a woman. (c.) சூதகமுட்டு, s. Suppression of the menses. See கருப்பசூலை under கர்ப்பம். சூதகவாயு--சூசிகாவாயு, s. Hysterics, &c.--from irregularities of the monthly course, and other complaints connected with pregnancy. (c.) 5) *
