To put in motion, to cause to pass away or out--as poison is removed by a magician. ஊருகால், s. A chank, a snail, சங்கு. ஊர்வது, s. A creeping child. 2. Reptiles. ஊர்புல், s. ūẕ (p. 71) க்கிறது, த்தது, க்கும், க்க, v. n. To grow old, decay, முதிர. 2. To wither, fade--as flowers, &c., வாட. 3. To decay-as flesh, fruits; to become putrid, to be spoiled, to rot, moulder, பதனழிய. 4. (p.) To bloom, blossom, or expand--as a flower, to be fresh, fair, beautiful, மலர. 5. To think of, to reflect on, நினைக்க. ஊழ்த்தகொழுந்தாமரை. The full lotus which withered. (பிள்ளைத்.) இண்ரூழ்த்துநாறாமலரணையர்கற்றதுணரவிரித்துரையா தார். Men do not adorn themselves with scentless flowers though they bloom, nor do they honor the learned who have not the power to set forth their acquirements. (குறள்.) ஊழ்த்தல், v. noun. Decaying, putrefying, being spoiled, பதனழிவு. 2. Consideration, சிந்திப்பு. 5)

eḷ (p. 75) s. [vul. எள்ளு.] One of the nine kinds of grain, sesamum, from the seeds of which an oil is extracted, used for food, bathing, &c., திலம். Sesamum orientale. See தானியம் and எண்ணெய்.-Note. The ள் of this word becomes ட் and ண் by permutation. எள்ளத்தனையைமலையத்தனையாக்க. To make a mountain of a sesamum seed, to exaggerate. எள்ளளவு--எள்ளுப்போலே. As much as a sesamum seed, a very little. எள்ளளவுநம்பிக்கையுமில்லை. Utterly unworthy of confidence. 2. Destitute of belief, confidence, &c. எள்ளுக்குளெண்ணெய்போலெங்குநிறைந்தகடவுள். God who pervades the universe, as oil the sesamum seed. எட்கடை--எட்கிடை--எட்பிரமா ணம். As much as a sesamum seed, எள்ள ளவு. 2. A standard of measure in regard to space, ஓரளவு--eight எள் make a நெல் or grain or rice; eight grains of rice one அங்குலம், an inch, &c. எட்பாகு, s. A kind of porridge made of sesamum seed, எள்ளுப்பாகு. எண்ணெய், s. [impr. எண்ணை.] Rape-seed oil. 2. (fig.) A common name for oils of all kinds. எண்ணெயூற்ற, inf. To express oil, எண்ணெய்வடிக்க. எண்ணெயெரிக்க, inf. To prepare medicinal oils by burning, in which the drugs are rolled up in a bit of cloth which is dipped in oil and set on fire; the oil which drops from it is used as a medicine, தைலமெரிக்க. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பு, s. The color of rape-seed oil, or dark brown. எண்ணெய்க்கறுப்பி, s. A female whose skin resembles rape-seed oil, not so much in regard to its color as its soft and beautiful appearance. எண்ணெய்க்காப்பு, s. Oil for bathing an idol, எண்ணெயபிஷேகம். எண்ணெய்க்காரன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். எண்ணெய்ச்சாணை, s. A hone prepared for use by oiling. எண்ணெய்ச்சாயம், s. Oil paint, எண்ணெயாற்செய்யப்பட்டசாயம். 2. Dyeing a cloth red after soaking it in margosa oil, எண்ணெயிற்றோய்த்தேற்றப்பட்டசாயம். எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு, s. Indigestion produced by eating oily food, எண்ணெய் வயிற்றிற்றங்குகை. 2. A clotted state of the hair from the oil not being well washed out, எண்ணெய்மயிரில்விடாமை. 3. A bad smell--as of oil, எண்ணெய்நாற்றம். எண்ணெய்ச்சீலை, s. Cloth dipped in oil to be applied to wounds, எண் ணெய்த்துணி. 2. A piece of cloth put round the waist before bathing, எண் ணெய்க்கோவணம். எண்ணெய்தேய்க்க, inf. To rub oil. எண்ணெய்தொட்டுப்பொட்டுவைக் க. inf. To dip the finger in oil before bathing dropping seven drops on the floor for the சிரஞ்சிவியர், who are supposed in consequence to grant long life. எண்ணெய்பிறக்க, inf. To form as oil by boiling. எண்ணெய்பூச, inf. To oil, anoint, besmear with oil. எண்ணெய்பொருத்த, inf. To put medical oil on the head or other parts of the body, and to rub it in, மருந்தெண் ணெய்பூச. எண்ணெய்ப்பற்று, s. Adherence of oil or unctuous matter to the bowels, hair, clothes, &c., oil, greasy substance in food--as in fish or on the dress from cooking, எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. எண்ணெய்வழுக்கு, v. noun. Being greasy--as oil, &c., எண்ணெய்ச்சிக்கு. 2. Shining, sleek, glossy, bright, எண்ணெய் மினுக்கு. எண்ணெய்வாணிகன், s. An oilmonger, எண்ணெய்விற்போன். ஆமணக்கெண்ணெய், s. Castor oil. தலைக்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil for the head. விளக்கெண்ணெய், s. Lamp oil. புன்கெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from புன்கம் seeds. சூட்டெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from the residuum of the margosa berry. மருத்தெண்ணெய், s. Medical oil. குருந்தெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from குருந்தம் seeds. இலுப்பெண்ணெய், s. The இலுப் பை oil. வேப்பெண்ணெய், s. Margosa oil. தேங்காயெண்ணெய், s. Cocoanut oil. வடியெண்ணெய், s. Clarified medical oil. கொதியெண்ணெய், s. A species of boiled oil, used for medicinal purposes. புளியெண்ணெய், s. A medical oil. புன்னையெண்ணெய், s. The oil extracted from புன்னை seeds. நல்லெண்ணெய், s. Sesamum oil used for the hair and the skin, &c. மரவெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted from wood. தெளிவெண்ணெய், s. Clear margosa oil poured off from the sediment. ஊற்றெண்ணெய், s. Oil extracted by pressing or pounding the seeds. மீனெண்ணெய், s. Fish oil. எள்ளுண்டை--எள்ளுருண்டை, s. A pastry made into balls, said to be a very strengthening food, ஓர்சிற்றுண்டி. எள்ளுந்தண்ணீருமிறைக்க, inf. To pour water to the manes of deceased persons on sesamum seeds and sacrificial grass held in the hand. எள்ளோரை, s. Sesamum and rice boiled and mixed with ghee--one of the சித்திரான்னம். காட்டெள்ளு, s. A kind of sesamum found in uncultivated places. காரெள்ளு, s. The common எள். 2. A distinct species of எள். பேரெள்ளு, s. A large kind of sesamum. கடலெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum. வெள்ளெள்ளு, s. A species of sesamum bearing white seed. சிற்றெள்ளு, s. A small kind of sesamum. 25)

ē (p. 76) . One of the seven long vowels, நெட்டுயிரிலொன்று. 2. An arrow, அம்பு. 3. A particle of emphasis, &c., இடைச்சொல். In நன்னூல், it is said to have six different uses: 1. பிரிநிலை, a distinguishing particle-as அவனேசொன்னான், it was he who said it. In some cases, it would be used for self or selves in the plural where the connection demanded it--as he himself said it. 2. வினா, interrogative: அவனேகொண் டான், was it he that bought it? 3. எண், enumeration or copulative--as சாத்தனே கொற்றனே இருவரும்வந்தார், Sattan and Kottan both came; கடலே, கரையே, மரமே, மலரே, வளையே, இவ்வைந்து, the sea, the land, the tree, the flower, the conch, these five. 4. ஈற்றசை or அசைநிலை, a terminate expletive --as மல்லலோங்கெழில்யானைமருமம்பாய்ந்தொளித்த தே, (the weapon) lodged itself in the breast of the beautiful and powerful elephant. 5. தேற்றம், certainty, confidence, appeal, emphasis--as இதுள்ளதே, this is really true; முயற்குக்கோடில்லையே, the hare has no horns. 6. இசைநிறை, a poetic expletive for completing the metre--as ஏஏ இவ ளொருத்திபேடி, she is a hermaphrodite; பேடியோவென்றாரே, he said, is she an hermaphrodite? To these the commentator adds 7. எதிர்மறை, negative as implied by the tones and inflections of the speaker rather than expressed by the particle--as அவன்வந்தானே, he came, did he? implying he did not come. Another may also be given. 8. இகழ்ச்சி, an interjection of contempt--as எஏ--வைத்தியகாரா, oh, oh, (or fie, fie), thou stupid fellow. (p.) 5) *

ēr (p. 79) s. A particle of comparison, உவ மையுருபு. 2. Beauty, அழகு. (p.) 3. A team for ploughing, including the plough and other apparatus, உழுபடை. 4. A yoke of oxen, உழவுமாடு. 5. Ploughing the plough-as an occupation, உழவுத்தொழில். அவனிருப்பதேர்க்காரன். He is a person possessed of twenty yoke of oxen. காம்பேர்தோள். Shoulders beautifully rounded like a bamboo. கயலேர்கண்ணார். Carp-eyed beauties--ladies with eyes as beautiful as the carp-fish. சீரைத்தேடினேரைத்தேடு. If you desire wealth attend to agriculture. ஏரடிக்க--ஏருழ, inf. To plough. அவன் எத்தனையேருழுகிறான்--அவனுக்கெத்தனையே ருழும். With how many yoke of oxen does he plough (his land)? i. e. how many yoke of oxen has he? or how many acres of arable land does he possess? ஏராண்மை, s. Ploughing, tillage, agriculture, உழவு. ஏராளர், s. Husbandmen, agriculturists, உழவர். ஏரின்வாழ்நர்--ஏருழவர்--ஏருழுநர் --ஏர்த்தொழிலர், s. Ploughmen, those who live by the plough, உழவர். ஏருழக்க, inf. To practise husbandry, பயிர்செய்ய. ஏரெழுபது, s. A poem of seventy stanzas in praise of the plopugh by கம்பர், ஓர்நூல். See Ellis. p. 44. (குறள்). ஏரோட்ட, inf. To plough, உழ. ஏர்க்கால், s. The shaft of a plough, கலப்பையின்கால். 2. Shaft of a carriage, வண்டியேர்க்கால். ஏர்ச்சீர், s. Implements of husbandry. 2. The wealth procurable by husbandry. ஏர்ச்சீரில்லாதவன். One who has neither oxen, implements of husbandry, nor seed, corn, &c. ஏர்த்தாயம், s. Ploughing in season. ஏர்த்தொழில், s. Agriculture, husbandry, உழவுத்தொழில். ஏர்நாழி, s. A small circular piece of wood with a hole in the centre to receive the cord வடக்கயிறு by which the ploughman can regulate the depth of the furrows, கலப்பையினோருறுப்பு. ஏர்ப்பண், s. [prov.] The rope for attaching the oxen to the plough, or the plough-beam to the yoke, பூட்டாங்க யிறு. ஏர்ப்பூட்டு, v. noun. Ploughing for the first time in the season, on an auspicious day begun with appropriate ceremonies, ஏர்கட்டுகை. ஏர்ப்பூட்ட, inf. To yoke the oxen to the plough. ஏர்வாரம், s. A share of the produce allowed for the team and agricultural implements used in cultivating the land, ஏர்க்காகக்கொடுக்கும்வாரம். முன்னேர்க்குண்டை, s. The first or best yoke of oxen. பின்னேர், s. The second or hindermost yoke of oxen. பொன்னேர்கட்ட, inf. To plough for the first time in the season on an auspicious day begun with the appropriate ceremonies--as ஏர்ப்பூட்ட. 52)
